Dunkirk

Rate this book
This is the story of Dunkirk and of the men who planned it (insofar as it was planned) and of the men who carried it out, and of their ships. Mr Divine, who was himself with the small boats, writes with the authority of direct knowledge. He had the assistance of the men who were intimately concerned with planning and organising the operation.
This is the true story of Dunkirk from its almost nebulous beginnings to the astonishing triumph of its end.

This book was a slow read for me. I have great admiration for what those men and boats accomplished in a few days, to actually save over 300,000 soldiers.

This book is an immensley detailed account of what is, one of the greatest Naval operations of all time. If youhave an interest in history and details, this is a book for you. If you are seeking a story style of narrative, then it is probably not for you. With its extensive use of 'first hand' reports, it brings home the magnitude of the operation, as well as some of the stress and horror.
