Join Sunaya one last time for this final installment in the Baine Chronicles series...
Even as Sunaya's fairy-tale romance with her handsome, powerful Chief Mage is celebrated in the media, all Sunaya wants is to get past the endless duties and social engagements of her new role, and spend a bit of private time with Iannis. Doing her best to ignore the many naysayers poo-pooing their match, she counts down the days of these last stressful weeks before the wedding and much-needed honeymoon.
But as it turns out, dealing with snooty mages and uppity politicians are the least of Sunaya's troubles. For Sunaya and Iannis have failed to reckon with an ancient and powerful enemy, who does not want their union to take place, and will go to any lengths to separate them--including murder.
Torn from her friends and family, faced with harrowing dangers with no one to call to for help, Sunaya must fight for her love and happiness against overwhelming odds.
Whether or not Sunaya survives to see her wedding day rests entirely on her overburdened shoulders. And despite being ill-prepared for the challenges ahead, Sunaya has every intention of making her latest enemy regret their attempt to keep her from the man she loves most in the world.
Good wrap to an excellent series. It left several potential places for the story to branch or spin off into other series without leaving it feeling unfinished.
This was the last book and I'm so sad to see it finished! I'm not ready to say goodbye to Sunaya, but with the way the author made it, I enjoyed seeing her, getting a break with Fenris, and coming back for a final time. And this book was pretty funny. It's a last act of proving herself but this time, it isn't to the world or their town. It's to Iannis's family. And the women are... well, not all that impressed with his bride-to-be.
It was entertaining, pretty fun but I had major nostalgic feels because I just couldn't let it go. I did enjoy seeing Sunaya get another revelation with her current life status, which of course only made it more bittersweet XD I'm totally gonna miss this crazy girl. She gave me a pretty good run while it lasted. This is definitely a series you'll have to check out.
Great storyline! This book is the perfect ending. This series is filled with adventure, romance, drama, and intrigue. What more can you ask for in a series?? All of them are fun reads. However, this one stole my heart with the ending. When love is tested, you must decide if it is worth the risk or not. No love is worth keeping if you cannot survive the trials that will certainly come your way.
Absolutely loved this series! So sad to see it end but it was an excellent ending. Perhaps we’ll see some of the other characters in future books? I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their journeys it will definitely be one I’ll never forget. This book was full of emotion, adventure and suspense and one not to be missed!
A bittersweet end to a brilliant series. I’ll start by saying if you are looking for a fantastic adult series, look no more, you must read this one! Like others, this is the series that introduced me to Jasmine’s books. She’s been my number one must read author over the last year.
The review (contains some spoilers, you’ve been warned)...
As Iannis and Sunaya’s wedding day approaches, complications arise. The resistance, hoity-toity mages, and Iannis’s family all make appearances. My favorite part of the book was with Iannis’s family and the Tua realm. Ta’sradala, Iannis grandmother, set a series of three tasks Sunaya must complete before she can marry Iannis. This brings Sunaya on adventures she never thought were possible. In the Tua realm she meets siblings, Nalan and Arala. I’m not going to say more on it, because heavy spoilers would be needed. I’m hoping these two get their own spin off book (hint hint Jasmine). Fenris makes a return, although it is brief, along with other characters from the series, all of which helps tie up loose ends. The book does a decent amount of recapping in the beginning, so if you’ve forgotten things or are new to the series, it will help. I think the only the way the book would’ve been better is if all the characters would have made it to her wedding (the pirates, Chen’s sister, etc.). If you’re new to the series, I’d highly recommend starting from the first book as to not miss pertinent information. Book contains adult themes- swearing, sex, etc. Over all, a good book and would recommend.

Oh this book is truly bittersweet being the ending of the long journey of Sunaya Baine and Iannis, the Chief Mage. The excitement of Sunaya's surprise testing by her not so great Grandma on her husband's side truly had me biting my nails hoping she would survive and wishing Iannis would hurry up and save her. Of course, Grandma gets what's coming to her in the end! The wedding was even more beautiful than Fenris and Mina's, and with the blessings of Resinah how could this be wrong? I'm sorry this series is at an end, but I know Jasmine has a lot more stories in her head waiting to come out, and I'm so ready! Thank you for another great read!
Ahhhh, the ending to a wonderful series! The last eight or so books have been quite the adventure and I must say I'm unconsolable that it's the end. How dare she end it, right? I will desperately miss my favorite Chief Mage so.
Over all the Baine Chronicles world was filled with a mix of innocence (I think this was Jasmine's first published book?), allure, magical moments, suspense, adventure, and danger. You can't forget the characters either and everyone who helped make it the story that it was along the way. But I think Taken by Magic has been one of the best books in the series so far with an ending that does our two leads justice. Well done, Ms. Walt.
I honestly hope this isn't the last book! I can hardly imagine not checking up on Iannis and Sunaya sometime soon.
I was both excited to dig into this book and sad that this is the last book in the series. This book is a wonderful final adventure to complete it. I love the well thought out characters and the great descriptions that lead to easily form pictures in my mind. I admire Sunaya's strength and determination to conquer any difficulties thrown in her path. This book is action-packed, full of danger, magic, adventure, secrets, romance, shifters, mages, friendship, and mystery. My favorite is Trouble, the ether parrot. He makes me laugh and wish I could have one! I will definitely be reading more from this entertaining author.
I have enjoyed the journey with Sunaya from the discovery of her mixed shifter/mage heritage to her union with Iannis. While this chapter of their saga was not as exciting as the previous books, it was a nice wrap up of her adventures. I felt that all the story lines that were woven through the series found a conclusion, there were some that felt a little rushed and made me wonder why it couldn't have been handled earlier (Fenris especially) Overall I did enjoy the book, but I felt it was not up to the quality of the previous books. I do look forward to exploring other books by this author and hope they have the same world building attributes of this series.
Oh let's just get it out there, I'm sad this is the last book in this series because this is one absolutely great world and characters. This book does not disappoint either, it's action packed and filled with surprises. I really wanted the evil grandmother to get a harsher sentence but 500 years does give them time to have a family. I'm glad to have read both series in this world. Now I have to wait for a new book in one of the authors other 3 worlds.
I received an ARC of this story and have chose to voluntarily review it here.
Sunaya is enjoying some free time with the girls playing hide and seek when a hand comes out of the fountain and whisks her away. She finds herself face to face with lannis’s grandmother Ta’sradala, his mother Ennartha and his aunt Deryna. She is to take on 3 dangerous tasks to prove she is worthy to marry Iannis. She is terrified yet angry at Ta’sradala for taking her right before the wedding. Will she survive and find her way back to the love of her life. A perfect ending for this series. Jasmine is a great writer and now one of my favorite authors.
I love this series and was not disappointed in this book that might be the end for the characters. Crazy things happen, like always, and they handle it so well. Sunaya is a favorite tough as nails character and I love her relationship with each person she loves and holds dear. Her soon to be in laws leave a lot to be desired and I wouldn’t deal with them!!!
I have read this series and truly enjoyed the story and adventures involved with the people involved. It has a good spin to this tale and I hope many others enjoy it too.
This last book of Sunaya's may be over but I hope to learn more of the new adventures that the Tua trio have with Barrla and Marris, as well as I am still interested in Annia's mysterious torque magic spirit.........
I liked the story but not for the end of this series. I wanted more for their relationship to help cement their bond. Their relationship took a backseat to the action (like it did in all the other books). I wanted more then stolen moments for them. :(
Sunaya’s wedding to Iannis is approaching and the couple is as busy as ever when they discover that the Minister has decided to hold the mages Convention in Solontha the week before the wedding. To make matters worse they receive a letter from a surprising source who has apparently been gravely offended that they weren’t consulted regarding the marriage. Sunaya is pulled from Solontha when she’s needed most and she finds herself having to overcome insurmountable odds in order to prove that she is worthy of the Chief Mage.
I cannot express how sad I am that this series is over. I have loved getting to know this world and watching how it’s characters grow and develop. Sunaya is a strong, badass protagonist who has really come to learn a lot over the course of the series. She’s come to accept all of who she is and become all the stronger for it. With the gift of Fenris’ memories she finds it easier to integrate herself into mage society and, while she has grown more levelheaded, she hasn’t lost that fierceness that has always driven her.
I can’t help but want to read more about Sunaya’s journey as the wife of the Chief mage, that being said I think Jasmine found the perfect note to end on. We saw some new dimensions to the Baine Chronicles world and the ending left me feeling immensely satisfied, if sad that it was over. Sunaya and Iannis got their happy ending and their world may not be perfect but together they seem an unstoppable force who will likely overcome any obstacles that get in their way.
I loved this series, and I am sad it´s over. But life must go on, and so must Jasmine´s writing. Everything seems prepared for the greatest event in a long time - the wedding of Sunaya and Iannis. Nevertheless, there is still so much to do, secure, organize, prepare... that Sunaya desperately wishes for a break. And break from the chaotic wedding preparations and mage gathering she gets, only she wouldn´t dream of such break even in her wildest dreams. Family is everything, right? But not every family member is welcoming and accepting, and Sunaya must pass the final test to finally unite her life with Iannis. It is admirable how much has happened since the first day Sunaya landed in the chief mage´s palace. The journey was long, and now that the end is on the horizon, both Sunaya and Iannis are desperately looking forward to the wedding celebrations. Their relationship has grown steady and blossoming, carrying so much love and hope I wished for such partnership in my life. They are both mature characters, hardened by constant threats and dangers, wisened by intrigues and machinations they have to overcome, and pretty skilled by every mystery and problem they had to solve. Surrounded by true friends and mastering great magic, this couple held my heart through the whole series. However, my ways with this world are not parting, since there is Fenris´s story to read...
This is the eighth and concluding title in the series. Sunaya is attending social gatherings leading up to her wedding, and she hates it. When she has a little free time, things don’t go as planned and she ends up kidnapped by a member of Iannis’ family, a family that doesn’t think she’s worthy to marry him and must go through deadly trials to prove her worth. Will Iannis find her before it is too late, or will she miss her own wedding? I have to admit I am going to really miss these characters. They have really grown throughout the series, and it really shows in this last book. The love and affection the characters have for each other really shine because Ms. Walt really knows how to write a terrific book, including wirting a great plot. I love how this book ended, and it was a fitting conclusion to the series with Sunaya and Iannis. If you are a fan of this series, you will not be disappointed in this last book! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
sad series is over but great ending.this was the first series I fell in love with by jasmine Walt and I am sad to see it over! this last book was exciting, interesting and very different. I honestly did not see how a book about a wedding would be this great,i didn't want to read it because it was the last but am glad I did. the book delves into the tua more than other books and brings together a lot of the characters that have left the area.it still leaves some questions unanswered and to me it looks like the author left an opening for 3 possible spin off series if she wishes to write then. I would love to know more about Annia, sunaya's new cousins from far away and what happens to all the kids. this book had all of the components of the other books that I loved plus it ended the series. it left me with several questions, all of which would make great series though. I enjoyed the book and could not put it down.sad to see the series go but I know this author will come up with other great things to read,i haven't been disappointed yet!
The wedding between Sunaya and Iannis is fast approaching but they are both incredibly busy sorting out a conference and the wedding itself when Iannis's family contact him complaining that they had not been consulted. Then a family member takes action and an adventure in Manuc enfolds. Can they get through this situation and get the dream wedding they both deserve.
What a great story to finish series. I loved the different trials and their stories which were all quite different. I loved the wedding and it was wonderful to have so much happiness for the central characters so I can imagine them having a fulfilling and very happy life going forward. Sad for the series to end but it had a fitting ending that you need to read if you have read any of the earlier books so you have closure. Well written and cleverly crafted into a worthy ending. Looking forward to whatever the author writes next.
I began at number one and continued until this last release, #11. The books were well written, the characters well defined, fun, interesting, and it was really nice to have the female character be really strong and independent. She even rides a motorcycle rather than driving a car (steam punk style). I loved the storyline and the never-ending adventures. There was something always happening so it kept the novels intriguing. I personally love humor and friendly, humorous and even sarcastic banter in novels and these had it in spades. It really makes the characters and their relationships come to life. The ending of #11 states "the end for now" or something like that, so I believe the ending, the way its concluded could definitely be the end but there's nothing to say the author couldn't continue. I guess we'll see. (?) ;-) I'm excited to read some of her other series.
And they lived happily ever after...but before my favorite characters, Sunaya and Iannis ride off into the sunset, they must go through some adventure right? Yes! This begins the last book in the series of the Baine Chronicles. Sadly, the story must wrap up sometime and if it has to, this is the best way to go.
Taken by Magic is great. It's the things you have come to love and expect from author Jasmine Walt. Sunaya is kidnapped just prior to the long awaited wedding by Iannis' grandmother. She must pass three tests in order to be reunited with him, and make it to the church on time (or the temple as the case may be). The book has a great flow to it, with funny and fresh new characters and story line. I totally loved it.
If you have enjoyed this series so far, you'll like this book too.
I actually really enjoyed this book, I put it off to begin with even though I pre-ordered it because I typically hate "goodbyes." However the way Jasmine ended it made me very happy. I loved the fact that Fenris made an appearance and had his wedding first! That was a surprise twist that I absolutely loved. All in all it is still left somewhat open with some side characters like Annia, so if Jasmine ever decides to write more in the Recca universe it is not going to be a difficult transition. I love this series so much, and I haven't written any fan-fiction since I was 15 and waiting for the next Harry Potter, however I think I might do a short fan fiction story one day as this series is just so good. Words cannot really describe the love I have for it. Fenris has his own spin off series for those who need more right now. :)
At long last Sunaya and Iannis wedding will soon be happening. Both are exhausted from attendings receptions and parties in their honor. The morning after a party, Iannis receives a letter from Ta'sradala, his Tua grandmother, complaining about not receiving a personal invitation to the wedding. Brushing off the invitation demand, Sunaya goes about her busy day. While playing hide and seek with three little girls, Sunaya is pulled under the water in the garden pool. She finds herself in the presence of three women, Iannis' grandmother, mother and great aunt. Ta'sralda demands Sunaya pass three tests before she can marry Iannis. Grab the book quickly to go on the journey in Tua with Sunaya. You won't regret it.
This is the last book of the Baine Chronicles for Sunaya and Iannis’s story. Taken by Magic does a good job of wrapping up loose ends in the plot, giving the reader closure on the characters, while embarking on another fascinating adventure. The book also introduces some new characters, leaving me to wonder if there might be another spin off series similar to Fenris’s story. If you haven’t read the previous novels, please start with “Burned by Magic”, as the storyline builds from one book to the next. I can’t wait for more from this author!
I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. I have to say this final book of Tge Baine Chronicles was my absolut favorite.
We get to see how Sunaya has grown but we also get to learn about Iannis's side of the fam....and why he has never mentioned them before.
Nothing like life threatening predicaments right before your wedding. Loved that the last book centered primarily on Sunaya and then Iannis. But in the end you get to see who Sunaya is, how she has gotten here and who has travelled w her on this journey but this shows you where Sunaya is headed and what she will acccomplish in the future. It was beautiful!
I’m finally done with this series and a little sad that I reach the end! I love that the author tightly up most of the lose end! Her best friend Annie Melcott is the only lose end I would like to know! But let hope later on in the future we would get to hear that adventure of how she gained her magic! We met some new interesting characters from Tua! I like how Sunaya magical training come to end and what she gain from Tua world. The author did a wonderful with series and I glad I can across this series! I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do! Thank you for taking your time to read this! Sorry I didn’t put in a lot of spoilers!
