Not every match is made at the marriage mart…

After a disastrous, short-lived engagement and years of caring for her ailing grandmother, Phoebe Hallsmith is resigned to spinsterhood. But if she must be unmarried, far better to be of use than languishing at home, disappointing her parents. As an employee of the Everton Domestic Society of London, Phoebe accepts a position at the country home of an old friend and discovers an estate—and a lord of the manor—in a state of complete chaos.

Losing himself in the bottle has done nothing to ease Markus Flammel’s grief over losing his wife. Not even his toddler daughter can bring him back from the brink. Now this fiery, strong-minded redhead has taken over his home, firing and hiring servants at will and arousing unexpected desire. As not one, but two, suitors suddenly vie for Phoebe’s hand, can Markus move past loss and fight for a future with the woman who has transformed his world?

A well written and truly heartwarming story of two lost and adrift people who are meant to bring hope and happiness back in each other's lives.
The h has lost her prime years (by regency standards) caring for her grandmother and then loses a fiancé who not only dumps her but peevishly slanders her as cold and unemotional. The H has completely lost the plot after losing his beloved wife in childbirth and becomes a drunk who neglects his duties and his two year old daughter.
The h goes into 'service' after being disowned by her oldest brother (her two younger brothers are H material). She becomes an 'Everton Lady' - not a companion, not a governess, not a housekeeper but a manager of sorts who smooths out social and household issues - and comes to help her friend's widower, man up and take charge of his life, after being hired by his mother.
The H resists but soon realizes his folly and happily, for the poor child, becomes a father to her.

I loved their late night cookie stealing ventures into the kitchen. But, so many late sleepless nights are a bit too much. The h falls for him but faces a lot of guilt because he's 'Emma's husband'.The H, too falls for her but is not sure if he can give her place in his heart that belongs to his wife.
I liked the h a lot - to begin with - but then her act of a long-suffering martyr became a bore. The H, after he gave up alcohol, is a sweetheart.
And the book could easily have been 20% shorter and even the ending is dragged out.
So, loses one star.

This is a delightful, heartwarming historical romance and I’m so happy to discover it is the first in a new series - I’ll definitely be looking out for more in the series and other books by this author in future.

Although a member of the nobility, Phoebe Hallsmith has chosen to work for the Everton Domestic Service rather than staying at home - much to the displeasure of her family some of whom have disowned her. She believes she is doomed to spinsterhood after leaving London to care for her ailing grandmother (Grands) for five years and having her fiancé break off their engagement. She’s quite enjoying her new life! When she returns to the Society after a job ends, she is greeted by the mother-in-law of her now-deceased best friend and ends up going to help her son, Markus Flammel, who is not coping well with his wife’s death in childbirth, even though it is now two years since it occurred. When she arrives at his home she finds Elizabeth ,his two year old daughter who doesn’t speak but does scream to get her own way, is being brought up by the few servants who remain in the household and his lordship is drinking to excess to help him cope with his grief.  Phoebe is determined to improve the situation and takes over organising his household, employing new servants, helping Elizabeth behave more like a young lady and endeavouring to stop Markus from drinking and encouraging him to look after his estates again. She’s one feisty red head who ends up with two other men seeking her hand in marriage whilst Markus really doesn’t want her to marry either of them. However, he’s still feeling guilty about moving on after his first wife’s death. Will he give their mutual attraction a chance or will he return to drowning his sorrows again?

The story had great characters from all levels of society and I suspect many of them will feature in future stories in this series. It is a whirlwind romance, a real page turner, with many moving moments - some funny, some sad and some heartwarming. It is a beautifully told story that I thoroughly enjoyed and have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys historical romances with a fiery female lead helping reawaken the hero who has to fight to win her heart.

I requested and was lucky enough to be given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

Fenichel takes us on a whirlwind romance with both humor and heartbreak filling the pages. Phoebe is the perfect kind of fiery heroine (and a redhead at that) who doesn't give up. No damsel in distress. And I adore a hero who must fight for the lady he loves.

Touching and deeply romantic, I recommend to all historical romance lovers.

Phoebe Hallsmith willingly spent her eligible years caring for her beloved grandmother instead of looking for a husband. Now firmly on the shelf, she chooses to become useful by seeking employment with the highly reputable Everton Domestic Society, dedicated to placing respectable ladies in positions of usefulness. Assigned to help the grieving husband of a close friend after his wife’s death in childbirth, Phoebe has to fulfil her duties while adhering to the Society’s strict rules, one of which heads each chapter in the book.

Many second-chance romances dismiss or demonise the first spouse, but this book does the very opposite. Markus was deeply in love with his wife, and struggles to reconcile growing feelings for Phoebe with his belief that loving again would betray Emily. Phoebe in turn encourages Markus to celebrate his love for Emily, and their daughter Elizabeth. Emily was her friend too and she doesn’t want her to be forgotten.

Despite Phoebe being ostensibly on the shelf, she has a couple of suitors other than Markus turn up in the novel, neither of whom really consider her wishes. There’s a hilarious scene where both of them try to propose to her at once while Markus watches on, seeking to contain his laughter, and making a conscious choice to let Phoebe handle them unless and until she appeals to him for assistance. Of course she manages the matter beautifully, but that single moment of contrast, of Markus assuming her competence and respecting her choices, made the contrast between him and her other suitors quite glaringly obvious.

The only thing I wasn’t sure of was a rather unnecessary love scene. In the early Regency era, a respectable and honourable lady like Phoebe just would not sleep with a man before marriage, especially when considering possibly marrying someone else! I understand sex scenes are considered de rigeur in even historicals these days unless they are categorised as Christian, but in this case I really felt it detracted from the plot. Potential consequences weren’t even mentioned, and considering the lack of reliable birth control, it should definitely have been considered. To be honest, it felt like an addition after the fact, probably at the suggestion of an editor, and could have been left out altogether. It was well written, though, and my sense that it wasn’t necessary isn’t enough for me to take a star off this otherwise really excellent historical second-chance romance. Five stars for a charming read.

Can two tortured souls overcome past hurts and embrace their second chance at love or are their hearts closed off forever?

After missing out on the marriage mart due to taking care of her sick grandmother in Scotland, Phoebe Hallsmith’s resolute to be a spinster. She’s a proud employee of the Everton Domestic Society and very thankful to Lady Jane for taking her in after her mother and eldest brother disowned her. She embraces each assignment for its challenges but her latest one has her questioning her vocation and her heart. She falls for Markus but keeps her feelings to herself, for Emma’s sake.

Lord Markus Flammel’s life ended when his beloved wife, Emma, died giving birth to their daughter, Elizabeth, two years ago. He drowns his sorrow in the bottle morning, noon and night. He’s abandoned his friends and family who’ve been trying to get him sober. It’s only when his mother contracts Phoebe from the Everton Domestic Society that things start to change. She shames him with her words but her demand for order, not to mention her intelligence, breaks through his grief. With Phoebe’s help, he vows to quit drinking and get his life in order. He starts to fall in love with her but is he betraying his late wife’s memory, or can he love Phoebe while still loving Emma?

I loved reading Markus’ story as he’s been one of my favorite characters in Fenichel’s Forever Brides series. I’ve watched him spiral downwards and knew there had to be a woman who could bring him out of his dank existence. Fenichel portrays the widower with a child addicted to drink well and I applaud her for reaching emotional depths with Markus. His growth from drunk to sober is heart-wrenching but paramount to the story.

Phoebe, by far, is my favorite character. She’s intelligent, organized, full of passion and even has a fiery temper. She speaks her mind and makes Markus want to be a better man. Her spunk attracts the attention of three men which I found amusing.

If you love historical romance with a strong-willed heroine, this is a must-read! Fenichel’s outdone herself with a lush romantic story with honest, emotional depth, high stakes and humorous dialogue. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from Lyrical Press (Kensington Books) via Netgalley in the hopes I’d review it.

Favorite Character/Quote: Phoebe wanted to feel sympathy for him but she couldn't keep her annoyance in check. "What on earth is wrong with you? How can you talk about Emma that way in front of your daughter? I am well aware of the loss of my dear friend, so your attempt to hurt me was wasted. Why is your house in chaos? Why are Emma's roses along the front entrance overgrown? Why is your staff terrified of a small child? Where have you been that they are shocked at your arrival? I demand answers."

"You demand? Who are you to demand anything? Where were you when Emma lay in her coffin and they covered her up with dirt? You have no rights here." He collapsed into his chair.

ARC REVIEW

The Everton Domestic Society #1, A new series but quite a few familiar faces. The Flammel Family that was in the Forever Brides series, particularly the last one Desperate Bride (this can be read separate from that series). The eldest brother, Marcus, lost his wife in childbirth and since then let his life fall apart around him becoming more and more like his drunken father. Getting into alcohol induced rages and firing the staff to the point there are only four of them for the whole house and are there wits end trying to raise Elizabeth and keep up with the house. Phoebe Hallsmith decided that taking care of her grandmother was more important than finding a husband, much to her Mother's dismay. Living in Scotland with her Grandmother Phoebe did once get briefly engaged only to be rejected and completely humiliated. After the death of her grandmother Phoebe proceed to further embarrass her family by going to work for the Everton Domestic Society and helping families in desperate times of need. Marcus' mother, Lady Castlereagh, is tired with her son's attitude and hires the Everton Domestic Society to help her son get his house in order and his life back on track. Margaret Flammel knows Phoebe was dear friends with her deceased daughter-in-law, Emma, and that her brother is best friends with Markus and specifically requests Phoebe be the one to help. Phoebe understand the their are complications when working with someone you know personally but is determined to stick to the rules and remain professionally distant.

Within moments of her arrival at Rosefield Phoebe is already making changes, the little Elizabeth who doesn't speak is reminded she is a lady and will disappoint her mother if she doesn't act like one. She then makes Markus see the errors of his ways and reminds him that his daughter is not a bad memory of his wife. After one more bender Markus wakes up and realizes he's turned into his father and if there is one thing he never wanted to do was that and Emma would be very disappointed in him so he starts to fix things; first by getting rid of all the alcohol in the house. Phoebe starts to set the house in order while Markus works with his secretary to fix the finances.

The romance start slow between Phoebe and Markus, just friends at first but the more time they spend together the more the feelings grow. As the feelings grow they both start to feel guilty about betraying Emma, and Phoebe is determined to keep it professional and keeps saying as soon an the Nanny is settled her job is over, but things with the Nanny keep going wrong and Phoebe ends up staying longer. It doesn't help that Markus' secretary is enamoured with Phoebe and has stated they are going to court and to top it all off Phoebe's eldest brother is demanding she marry the idiot who dumped her in Scotland. It's Markus who first realizes his feeling for Phoebe and that it's okay that he fall in love again; now Phoebe just has to realize she too can give into her feelings without feeling guilt.

Overall, this was an emotional story of learning to love again. Fenichel handles the whole thing well a lot of widow/widower stories are hard to take in, they almost always make the deceased spouse horrible so that way it's easier to accept the fact that they can love someone else. In this Emma was a wonderful person and that makes it harder for both Markus and Phoebe to get over that guilt of being in love with each other. I loved how Fenichel handled that it was raw and beautiful.

Received a copy of A Lady's Honor in exchange for an honest review. Thank you A.S. Fenichel and Book End Tours for allowing me to read this!

Perfection. Seriously, this was absolutely beautiful. What I love most about historical fiction, especially when romance is involved, is the ability for the author to create such a whirlwind of emotional connections between the characters while still grasping on the true historical nature of the time setting. Regardless of the miss tells, it is fiction and above all the author can do whatever to make it evolve into such an amazing story with a great backbone to boot.

So lets jump right into the good stuff head first, shall we?

The point of a historical fiction is the atmosphere, whether it is exaggerated or very adamant to the specific time frame, it needs to be believable for the readers imagination. With that being said, Fenichel's ability to create this world building between caste system, set up in Europe where society and titles were imperative to the survival of your living situation was perfectly flawless. Involving what it was like as woman of stature yet fallen from the grace of her family plus the development of what scandal could do to a reputation; it was super fun!

Which brings us to my favorite thing: Phoebe. I loved this little red head spunk. She was strong yet refined, she understood her place in the society with her current situation and embraced it. Yet she still held the grace and poise of what a woman is expected to be in all aspects. She did not allow her flaws to oversight her goals, though they do weigh on her a great deal, influencing her internal conflicts, she still does allow herself to own up to her flaws - dealing with it face on. As for the delicious Markus. I loved his character through and through. Handsome and kind yet rough around the edges, he was a true brute of romance.

Oh the chemistry! Between the hideous Durnst and unpleasant Blunt courting Phoebe, it was the swoon worthy Markus that stole my heart and I needed to have him win damnit! The chemistry between Markus and Phoebe was a perfect blend of deep passion, mutual respect and heart felt internal conflicts. They had some of the most intimate moments without even touching it made my heart sore over the moon.

Even with the chemistry and drama surrounding our lovers, the supporting characters were absolutely wonderful. I adored little Elizabeth! It made the development wonderfully sweet and adorable.

Bottom line, I really enjoyed this novel. I do not have much in the way of dislikes overall. It was a short enough read to be quick, fact paced with the right amount of chemistry and build to the romance. It was romantic, scenic, and just overall beautifully written. I definitely want to continue the future novels within the Everton Domestic Society series. Fenichel has captivated me mind and soul with her beautiful writing style, I cannot wait to add more of her to my TBR.

Phoebe has missed her season because she was taking care of her ill grandmother. She spent five years looking after the woman she loved with all her heart and missed her chance at marriage. Wasting her time at home with nothing to do isn't something that suits the practical Phoebe, so she joined the Everton Domestic Society. Her brother disowned her because he considers this a scandal, but for Phoebe it's an honor to help others getting their lives back on track.

Markus is drowning in his grief. He drinks too much and neglects his duties. He's chased most of his staff away. That's why his mother has hired an Everton lady to take over his home and sort Markus out. Phoebe knows Markus well because he was married to her best friend. He's now a widower with a little girl to look after. Will Phoebe turn Markus into a loving father and conscienscious member of the ton and property owner again?

Phoebe considers herself a spinster and doesn't intend to get involved with someone. Several suitors are unexpectedly fighting for her hand in marriage though, which is something Markus doesn't approve of. While spending time together Markus and Phoebe become really close. Can he love again after losing his wife and will he and Phoebe have a chance, especially when not everyone will be happy with their union?

A Lady's Honor is a wonderful romantic story. Phoebe is strong, capable, levelheaded and smart. She doesn't take no for an answer and succeeds where others have failed. I immediately loved this spirited woman. She's a force to be reckoned with while she remains kind, which is a fabulous character trait. Markus has hit rock bottom and Phoebe is there to drag him out of his sorry state. She has him back on track in no time and I loved how she pushes him to be a better father and head of the household. He listens to her and values her opinion. I liked their close friendship and the sparks that fly between them. They have plenty of obstacles in their way and giving into their feelings would bring many difficulties, but they both very much deserve to have a chance at happiness again. Finding out if they'd find love kept me on the edge of my seat.

A.S. Fenichel has a gorgeous captivating writing style. I was immediately enchanted by A Lady's Honor, it's a beautiful story about true love, second chances and making dreams come true. I loved that the main characters are headstrong and fierce, that makes them incredibly interesting. A.S. Fenichel combines this with fascinating descriptions of what it's like to run a stately home. There's plenty of drama in Phoebe's personal life, which brings delightful entertainment. I loved how that balances the amazing tender love that's unfolding. A Lady's Honor is a fantastic heartwarming book. I love it when a story puts a big smile on my face and I highly recommend this terrific feelgood novel.

Phoebe Hallsmith spent years caring for her ill grandmother. A short-lived engagement with a fiancée who tarnished her name led Phoebe to enter the Everton Domestic Society of London causing estrangement with her family.
Returning from assignment she is met with a woman from her past. The Countess of Castlereagh demands Phoebe assist her son with regaining his life after the death of his wife two years previously. Initially reluctant to agree as Emma was a dear friend of hers, she is persuaded to take the assignment.
Markus Flammel is lost in grief at the loss of his wife in childbirth. Drowning his grief in alcohol he is blind to the needs of his daughter and his estate. When is wife’s old friend takes over his home he is shaken at the strong reaction he has to the strong-minded woman.
With the re-emergence of Phoebe’s ex fiancé and difficulties with her family, the task is not an easy one.
This was an enjoyable read with compelling characters. The plot had a nice blend of romance, drama and intrigue. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good romance.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My heart is full as I turn the last page of this story. I knew this would be a wonderful story because every book I have read by this author is a keeper! Two souls brought together that were meant for each other but had to go a long way to find out. Having lost his beloved wife Emma over two years ago, Markus Flammel had been trying to drown himself in drink. Neglecting his home and his two year old daughter, he cannot bear the thoughts of his lost wife. Lady Phoebe Hallsmith has lost a lot herself. Betrothed and then rejected, she spent several years taking care of her dying grandmother before coming back home. Now on the shelf at 24 she has gone to work for the Everton Domestic Society and helping other people get their lives together. She is sent on a mission to pull Markus back up and get his house in order while making sure his daughter is in good hands. But you see, Phoebe had been his wife Emma's best friend, so she knew Markus and all that he had been through. As she begins to take control and gets Markus to shape up, Phoebe becomes invested in his sweet daughter and in Markus himself. Can anything come of their budding attraction? I loved these two characters and eagerly turned the pages to see what would happen. At times I wanted to shake Phoebe because she would not let herself believe that life could be more. This is one of the best stories I have read this year and cannot wait to read more!!

A Lady's Honor is a promising beginning in prolific author A.S Fenichel's Everton Domestic Society series. Phoebe Hallsmith decided to travel to Scotland to look after her ailing grandmother. After several years, her grandmother's recovery and eventual death, and a disastrous broken engagement, Phoebe is firmly "on the shelf"; at least in her opinion and that of her overbearing family. Rather than retire to her family's home, she decided to take a position with the Everton Domestic Society. Her decision only brings more family disapproval. Phoebe has been successful at straightening out upper-class households in disarray and is relatively content.

Phoebe's new assignment promises to be a little more personal. Markus Flammel's mother has asked for Phoebe in particular. Since the death of his wife, Emma, Markus has been a complete mess. He is in a state of perpetual drunkenness, his estate is in near ruins, and he is neglectful of his toddler daughter. The problem is that Phoebe and Emma were close friends and Phoebe fears that she will become more personally involved than she should.

Phoebe, Markus (at least after Phoebe takes control), and especially toddler Elizabeth are charming characters whose journey to happiness is fraught. I did think that the story dragged a bit in spots but overall was a diverting read. Thanks to NetGalley and Lyrical for an advance digital copy. The opinions are my own.

This was my first book by this author and I must say I enjoyed it.
The book is well written and had well developed characters. Phoebe and Markus formed a great couple and all secondary characters were an utter joy.
The story follows Phoebe, who after a broken engagement goes to work for the Everton Domestic Society and is consequently disowned by her family. It also follows Markus, who lost his wife during childbirth. He has been a drunk ever since, 3 years on.
Markus and Phoebe's story is filled with drama and humor. Their evening meetings over sweets were adorable.
My only critique is how fast everything, from the house being fixed, to Markus healing, and to them falling in love happened. It was a tad unrealistic, which I find okay on most romance books but it never really works for me on historical romances.

I received a copy of this book as part of a Instagram book blog tour.

"A Lady's Honor" by A. S. Fenichel
I just finished reading my copy of this story... and I LOVED this story. Oh, to be as wise and capable as Phoebe... But I am ever so glad I have not had her life. If you like Regency Romances. I am sure you will devour this story. I found it very difficult to put the story down, even when my eyes were begging to take a rest. I was gifted an ARC by the author.. and I truly feel very lucky to have had this opportunity for an early read. I hope there will be an unabridged audio book version available in the future... my eyes would enjoy the rest and my ears would love to share the story with me once again. And yes I laughed and I cried, and I cheered for my friends.. I say this is a 5-star story for sure. Happy reading.

My first book from this author, and it just touched my heart! This is a story about finding love after heartbreak and loss, but with so many lighthearted moments that the book felt balanced. I was especially in love with the heroine, a headstrong woman--though with her own insecurities--who rises above societal norms to stand up for herself. The hero and the heroine are such complements to one another. Where one lacks, the other makes up for. Bravo! I can't wait for the next in series.

REVIEW: Phoebe Hallsmith doesn’t regret the years of caring for her ailing grandmother. No, discovering that the man she was once betrothed to turned out to be a rat-bastard doesn’t really bother her as well; so all in all Phoebe is more or less resigned to ‘spinsterhood’. She has disappointed her parents and her brother has disowned her since she is now working as an employee of the Everton Domestic Society of London. Phoebe generally doesn’t accept positions where she is acquainted with the client, but upon a special request she agrees to try and sort out the chaos of her best friend’s grieving husband’s life - Markus Flammel.

After Markus’ wife Emma passed giving birth to a beautiful baby girl he’d been drowning his grief inn a bottle. Not even his toddler daughter can bring him any form of happiness. Phoebe who had been best friends and missed Emma was not about to let Markus get away with drowning his sorrows and neglecting his daughter - not if she had anything to do with it!

*** Again, I have been enthralled and moved by a book! I will also confess that I was originally drawn to this book by the luscious cover art and was thrilled to find that the beauty of the cover translated into a beautiful story as well! Lucky me!!

Phoebe had known how much her friend Emma loved her husband, although she herself didn’t have that much interaction with him. However, knowing Emma, she knew that only a good, honest, and honorable man could have had her friend so mush in love. For the sake of Emma’s beautiful daughter Phoebe would fight tooth and nail to bring Markus back to the living. Once Phoebe convinced Markus to stop drinking and look at his daughter, she began the long process of bringing his estate back to rights and letting him discover the joy of loving the precious gift of his daughter that Emma left behind.

With a few twists and turns from an old beau and a new conquest, Phoebe now had to examine her heart and decide if falling in love with her best friends widowed husband was the right thing to do. Also, was Markus ready to move on as well?

Bottom line: A wonderful story - high five star rating!

Beautifully written, this emotional Regency romance pushed all the right buttons for me. Phoebe is no shrinking violet and when she is disowned by her family after a disasterous rejection by her fiance, she decides to take the road less travelled and join the Everton Domestic Society. Through them, she learns that she has friends who care about her and she earns her place with them. Not afraid of hard work, Phoebe also learns that she doesn’t need to rely on her family to meet her needs when she puts her organisational skills into operation. Called on to carry out an assignment at her deceased best friend’s home, Phoebe arrives with the flamboyant lady Honoria Chervil to take over the running of Markus, Lord Castlereagh’s home. They find chaos of the worst kind and the Lord himself is heavily under the influence of alcohol. Whilst Phoebe is shocked at what she finds, nevertheless she has a duty to perform and immediately sets to work. She very quickly earns the respect of the few remaining staff and eventually the Lord himself, but working in such close proximity with an already wounded man comes with risks. One would expect the male of the species to be able to cope with pain and loss albeit stoically, but one forgets that every individual is different and Markus loses himself in the bottom of a bottle. Bit by bit Phoebe makes inroads into the mess and with Honoria’s sense of humour to lighten the darkest moments, she solves all of the problems, except for the one involving her heart. Sticking to the rules, Phoebe chooses to leave Rosefield behind and return to Everton House. Apart from Phoebe’s obnoxious brother and ex fiance, I loved the characters in this book and the way the story came together. The last chapter was hilarious and joyous and exciting, bringing all the main players together in a delightful way. Some of the characters in this book appeared in another series, however this is a standalone and comes to a very satisfactory ending. I received a copy of this book through Netgalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Lady Phoebe Hallsmith, age 24, after embarrassing her mother, has had to go into service. She works for the Everton Domestic Society. Phoebe has just returned from an assignment helping a young wallflower prepare for her debut. Now, that young girl is to be married and Phoebe’s assignment is complete.

The proprietor of the Society wants Phoebe to take another assignment. She is to work at the home of Markus Flammel, the Viscount of Devonrose, who lost his wife, Emma, after giving birth to their daughter, Elizabeth. His grief has led him to drinking. Since then, the house and grounds have deteriorated. Phoebe had been good friends with Emma. Thus, Phoebe agrees to the position and takes a chaperone, the dowager Lady Honoria Chevril. Both will also take their lady’s maids with them.

Upon arrival, Phoebe finds a skeleton staff and a drunken Marcus. Phoebe immediately takes charge and convinces Marcus to stop drinking and to spend more time with Elizabeth. When he’s finally sober, they begin the process of hiring more staff. Both Phoebe and Marcus are night owls which means they end up in the kitchen late at night for a snack. Their growing friendship is not without its own problems due to their differing personalities. But, is there a possibility they might find love?

I really wanted to like this book but I found it difficult to believe that Marcus could quit his drinking as fast as he did. I truly did not care for Phoebe. She is a woe is me type of person who is determined to wear her hair shirt forever. In addition, there are a lot of characters thrown into the mix that makes it difficult to keep up with. I have enjoyed this author’s books in past and hope that her next ones will be more appealing.

Lady Phoebe Hallsmith has chosen to work at The Everton Domestic Society verses marriage to a man who doesn’t love her, she is disowned by her family. She enjoys helping people and finds pleasure in a job well done. She takes her position very seriously and follows the rules to the T!
Markus Flammel, the viscount of Devonrose is devastated by the death of his wife Emma after giving birth to their beautiful daughter Elizabeth. For two years his life has spiraled out of control, his home is in disarray, he has a handful of servants left and he spends most of his days drunk. Worst of all Elizabeth is scared of him.
After Markus throws his mother out of his house she contacts The Everton Domestic Society for help. When’s she’s on her way out she runs into Phoebe, who was best friends with Emma. His mother insists that she be the one sent to help get Markus’ house in order. It goes against the rules for Phoebe to be the one but she is compelled to help her friends family.
The moment she arrives there is complete chaos through out the house and she is shocked how much the estate has been neglected. Phoebe takes everything in hand and confronts Markus with is drunken behavior and how ashamed he should be. One of the best scenes is when she’s confronting him. She’s strong, direct and shows him just how much he’s fallen and what he’s loosing if things do not change. He demands she leave, but as the days go by and a sense of normalcy settled in the home the attraction between Markus and Phoebe grow. Shame and guilt for their feelings and Emma’s memory stand to drive them apart but trust and the sense of safety just might be stronger.
This book is full of emotions, sadness and laughter and the realization that the heart is big enough for more then one great love.

I really loved Phoebe and Markus's story!

Resigned to spinsterhood, Phoebe has joined the Everton Domestic Society of London. When asked to help her late friend's husband get his life back together, she can't turn it down. When Phoebe arrives at Markus's home, she finds it in upheaval and its master drunk, which she learns has been his general state since the passing of his wife.

Markus doesn't want Phoebe there, but she is determined to get the house in shape so that her best friend's daughter can live a life free of chaos. First on her list, is to get Markus not to drink.

Having madly loved his wife and knowing he would never love again, Markus finds it discerning to be attracted to Phoebe. Not wanting to dishonor her best friend, Phoebe tries to deny her growing feelings for Markus. Can these two find their way to a HEA?

I just loved watching Markus and Phoebe falling in love. One of the reasons I liked this story so much was that it showed you could fall in love more than once. Usually in the stories of a second marriage, the surviving spouse didn't love the first person they were married to. It was generally a marriage of alliance and not someone that they would have chosen on their own. This was a refreshing change.

This was a great first book in Fenichel's newest series and I'm excited for the next book in the series, A Lady's Escape, to come out in October!

Note: This book has ties to Fenichel's Forever Brides series, Markus is the brother to the heroine in Desperate Bride and he is friends with the heroes of all 3 books.

This is my first book to read by this author. It was a very interesting and intriguing story line with lots of funny spots. I really liked the characters who had thoughts and feelings of their own. It held my interest throughout from start to finish.
Phoebe Hallsmith is suppose to be on the shelf since it seems like forever. She has dealt with lots of criticism from her family about her employment with a domestic agency. Phoebe loves her job and the people she works for. Now her boss has need of her at a house that can't seem to keep the employees there. But one problem is that she knows the family personally.
Marcus Flammel lost his beloved wife in childbirth. He is left to pick up the pieces and can't get his life together. Family and friends try to help, but all he wants to do is drink. It's a state in which he believes that all he has left and does his best to be troublesome.
When Phoebe comes to his home to put her idea's in dealing with Marcus and getting the household back to some kind of peace. He doesn't want her there and lets her know. He is attracted to her and that leaves him reeling with guilty feelings for his dead wife.
There is a slow burn of love that brings two lonely people together and a happy ever after that says it all.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

Phoebe Hallsmith has been disowned by her family, because she chooses to work for the Everton Domestic Agency. She spent the years when she would have been looking for a husband, looking after her grandmother. She did have one offer, but he cried off the engagement. She sees herself as definitely on the shelf. She is very good at the work she does for the agency, helping different families. This latest job involves someone she knows so it will be hard to be objective.
Marcus Flammel lost his beloved wife in childbirth. Since then he has tried his hardest to drown his sorrows in alcohol. The rest of his family have reached the end of their patience . He needs to sober up before he loses everything.
A lovely story showing just how strong a woman could be even when put under a lot of pressure from family and society. Good strong characters with lots of emotional content. Our hero has to face more than a few hard facts about his behaviour.
This is part of a series of stand alone books with family links.
I loved it. You will need the tissues occasionally.

This was a well-written, entertaining book. Phoebe spent her eligible years taking care of her grandmother, and was briefly engaged, though her fiance ended the engagement. Accepting her status as a spinster, she chooses to be of use and works for the Everton Domestic Society. She takes a position in the country home of an old friend who has been widowed and has a toddler to raise by himself. Markus is devastated by losing his wife, and has spent two years trying to drink away his sorrow. Phoebe arrives and begins to put his estate back in order, hiring and firing staff and directing them in the care of Markus's estate and his child. Sparks fly between Phoebe and Markus - is there a way for them to overcome the obstacles between them and build a future together? This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is the first in the Everton Domestic Society series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author.

Wonderful debut to the Everton Domestic Society series by A.S. Fenichel with unforgettable characters and beautifully written story that kept me glued to the book from the first page and didn't want the book to end when I got to the last page.

I loved Phoebe Hallsmith, a strong-minded employee of Everton Domestic Society, who accepts a position at a country home of an old friend and finds an estate in complete chaos including the lord of the manor, Markus Flammel, who has lost himself in a bottle due to grief over losing his wife in childbirth.

This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a well-crafted Regency romance. A Lady's Honor will warm your heart and bring a smile to your face. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I received a free copy of A Lady's Honor from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my unbiased review. I enjoyed the book so much, I purchased a copy.

A heart warming period romance, A Lady’s Honor was a brilliant read for me. I sometimes find that some historical stories are so steeped in the High society that the actual romance is lost. That was not a problem with AS Fenichel.

From the moment I started reading I loved Phoebes character. A strong woman who knows her mind. I was immediately disappointed with Markus but as the story progresses you are introduced to sorrow and the difficulty that follows it. Heart ache, sweet love and an attachment to the characters that leaves you smiling at your reading device.

AS Fenichel gently seduced me into the Everton world and I find myself longing to see more HEA’s for the disavowed and independent women of this historical time.

I have immediately begun following this author and I can not wait to dive into her other genres!

A Lady's Honor (Everton Domestic Society, #1) by A.S. Fenichel ... This is the first book in this series and I was lucky to be able to preview it on #NetGalley. Phoebe.. left England to care for her ailing grandmother in Scotland..giving up a chance of making a good marriage match...Markus..has fallen into decline (he has become a drunk with a foul temper) after the death of his beloved wife Emma when their daughter Elizabeth is born... Phoebe has taken a position with The Everton Domestic Society....and is sent to help Markus repair his life... Emma was her best friend and she feels guilty for her feeling for Markus.. which is against all of the Everton Lady Rules (which we learn in the story) Markus feels guilty for caring for Phoebe... I love the way I felt part of the story and enjoyed sharing their lives...Of course they get to their HEA...but I won't spoil your trip getting there...Can't wait for the next book in the series...

If you love strong, independent women who won't let men rule their lives, then get a copy of "A Lady's Honor" right away!

Phoebe Hallsmith is an employee of the Everton Domestic Society of London, a company that provides women to assist when and where needed in the confusing world of Victorian England. But when she finds herself assigned to help a widower pull himself out of the bottle, her heart is pulled in multiple directions - he is the husband of a good friend, who passed away and left a young daughter behind.

Caught between her heart and society's demands, Phoebe navigates stormy waters with pluck, determination and a strong will that rivals Wonder Woman. If you're looking for the first book in a series that'll have you lunging for every new release - this is it!

I truly enjoyed Phoebe and Markus' story. Phoebe was a delight to follow, her strength and determination made her such a fun character. The little girl, Elizabeth, made me laugh and melt. Meanwhile Markus is dealing with the pain of losing his wife, and coming back from despair. I enjoyed the unique connection the author has to this situation, and the truth she put into finding love after losing love. Markus' feelings were real, as was his recovery. Both characters knew his deceased wife and it added a level of conflict and drama, as well as love and caring to them and their relationship. This story may be part of a series, but I read this book first and it works well as a stand alone. I can't wait to read the other books in the series!

After Phoebe spent years caring for her ill grandmother she figures she is past the marrying age so she decides to join the Everton Domestic Society, she goes to help Markus care for his daughter after the death of his beloved wife in childbirth two years before and he is dealing with his loss badly by drowning his sorrows. With Phoebe's help, he starts to deal with his grief and move forward but feelings start to develop between them leaving them both feeling guilty. This was a pretty good read.
