Drained, killed, and thrown away…

Brian wasn’t supposed to survive. As a hunter of the Clan, he’s the vampires’ sworn enemy. They never meant to turn him. Yet he wakes up in the woods several days later, aching and thirsty.
He turns himself in to be executed by his people. It’s the right thing to do.

But the father says God has a plan for him—a last task, then redemption. He’s to infiltrate the nest as one of the vampires’ beloved children and create their demise. The father believes this will work, since the children are supposed to be precious and protected.

Brian doesn’t believe that. He’s seen the corpses left by their kind. They have no love.

This is such a harsh rating. But I just don’t get it - it feels like there is barely any story line, things just happen and the book ends. There’s no pull towards the characters, no hope of what could happen, how’s the book going to end ect. It’s just words on a page to me. :(

This is book two in the : Sire and Childe Vampire series .

This was a good read much better in my opinion than the first I'm not saying that the first book in this series wasn't interesting it was it just heard for me to get into . But I knew that this one would have more substance than the first . In this installment we get to see what happens when a hunter/Brian is embraced or turned after the event of the last book the young hunter Brian is attacked by Darius and is left for dead . But instead of dieing he is turned into a vampire lost and confused he doesn't know what to do. What should he do try to get in touch with the church he doesn't know if his two companions are dead or not . He also knows that he will surely die if he contacts the church there is no escaping this death sentence . And he refuses to be a menace to humans so Brian has no recourse but to go to the church . Things go as he thought they would there is no mercy from the church Brian is punished terribly by the church and is left near death . Because Brian is a Childe/newborn he is weak to a lot of things that a mature Vampire is not and will not survive the church's purification cleansing ritual . But the priest in charge comes up with a plan to release Brian back into the human population and have the Vampires find him they know that the Vampires are desperate for young that survive the change . The church charge Brian with becoming one of their child's and win their affections so that he can eventually betray the Vampires to the Clan . What they didn't except was for Brian to finally find a home and a family to love and whom he can love in return . Brian may be a new born vampire but he has the skills of a seasoned and deadly hunter which he will use to protect his new family the church has made a terrible mistake .

A different kind of love

Brian was a hunter. He was one of the best at capturing vampires for cleansing. But his heart broke with every plea. And his bone time of setting them free resulted in nearly dying. His last mission the baby vampire escaped and and he was once again left for dead. But this time was different. He woke up thirsty. Returning to the Clan resulted in punishment before they decided to use him as a mole. But his tender heart sees how the vampires care for the children above all else. All the elders care for and feed them, provide every need. There are no known orphans like with humans. So, who's the real monster?

Spoilers ahead.
While I wouldn't call these romances, per se. They are fantasy stories with romantic elements. This one picks up in a disjointed point halfway through the first, but jumps ahead to present day. Brian already has a soft spot for the prey he hunts. And after reading Theresa's notes he starts to wonder. When he's dropped off in the city, blind, hungry, beaten, and rescued by one he set free, he has a hard time completing his mission. Vampires might be monsters, but they're honest and caring monsters. His Clan tortured people, whipped them, starved them, bled them out, before killing them. The vampires kill to eat and feed their children. And many wouldn't kill at all if it meant they'd be safe to allow them to live.
I liked the new direction that the story was heading in at the end. I'd like to see how the vampires adapt to more modern living. To see them stake a home to defend. To see them set up the security measures they talked about using technology. I'd especially like to see Sam and Brian teach the elders about it all lol. This was interesting, and I liked how things developed, adapted, and how the characters grew. It wasn't just plot driven, or character driven. It had all 3 elements: a plot driven story, world building, and characters that evolved.

This book was just, ever so slightly, not as good as the first. The ONLY reason I say that is because the story ended in a way that builds for a sequel, which means I now have wait for the third book - if there even is one!

The Hunter to Vampire story feels like it should be played out but honestly - I felt it was a fresh take. The whole denial of self because of being gay and in a state of constant wariness of others because they know and shun any physical touch is painful to even think about. They way this impacts on the story and the transition to being a vampire is so very good and worth your time.

I still like Sam and book one better but Brian is fantastic.

feels unfinished

I loved this series and the characters. Such an interesting take on infant vampirism that makes it both cute and kinda sexy. My biggest complaint is that every time I feel like this author just gets to a certain point, the story ends, and there’s so many unanswered questions and unresolved plot points, it leaves the story feeling unfinished.
My other issue is that there seems to be missing words. Every once in a while, there’s just a missed word that I filled in with my mind as I was reading but it’s noticeable.

I was hoping for more Darius and Sam. I really don't like Zane. It didn't help that the only characters with personalities are Darius, Sam and Brian. Everyone else has no dimensions, sometimes not even purposes.
This war to come could be an interesting one. It's a pity the author is not strong with the supporting cast. Though she has a strong grip of the personal struggle of becoming something else than human.

This is more 3.5 stars but I thought it deserved the 4 over 3 😁

I really enjoyed this book the pain that comes with religious suppression and vampirism is a tale that I personally very much enjoy. I do really hope these characters continue on in the next book as I think there is more to tell from Brian and I'd be sad if his story ended where it did 😁 would still definitely recommend reading this.

I really enjoyed this one and I was glad that Sam played a role in it. I kind of love the whole found family thing. Though I'm distressed that this was published in 2017 and there's no other book despite the author's note saying there would be more. I'm about to do some snooping around the author's site and answered questions to see if this was dropped. It would be a shame if it was, because I really enjoyed this world and the moral dubiousness of it all.

More please

I didn't know I needed this in my life till I read it. Omg. Ive never thought about the process of making vampires before. They usually just get and just become stupid powerful. This is pretty cool. The older vampires actually play a huge role. Freaking erotic asf. Not some dumb mc instantly becoming a supernateral hero.

Loved it and really wish the author would write more books on this series but since the last one was from 2017 I doubt it will be soon because of covid. That and I am waiting on her other book Pykh 4.

I like the series for the potential future plot and intrigue, but before reading this one can someone tell me if there'll be a sequel or is this the last one?
