Millionaire playboy Ashton Miller has everything he could ever want—sex, cars, and so much money he can’t spend it fast enough. He jumps from girl to girl, leaving broken hearts in his wake. He never thought he’d want anything else from life…until he met her. Layla Kingston is decidedly not rich. Born into an abusive home, she’s had to make her own way, closing her heart to every man who crosses her path. But Ashton isn’t one to back down from a challenge. Layla intrigues him. She’s fiercely independent, innocent, and doesn’t need a man, nor does she seem to want one… But the more he learns about her, he finds himself craving more—something he vowed he’d never do.
I'm glad this was free. I got up to page 37 and stopped
The plot made it out as if she's this unassuming, independent heroine but impression lasted all of two pages. She was so easily led after that. Who gets out of a taxi and doesn't realise she's at a deserted part of town in the middle of the night. Then after an "attack" just waltz into a strangers home and notices EVERYTHING in the penthouse. Then she practically jumps the guy and when he pulls away, she's all like "did I do something wrong?" This screams the beginning of a whiny, insecure, naive female lead.
I don't get how she can offer to pay for half an apartment when she's not well off, she just finished college and works as a waitress.
I could have kept going for a little with all of the above going on. But it completely lost me with the hero's POV. It repeated the exact scene the heroine did, with the exception of his own inner dialogue happening.
Ahhhh no thanks. If I had spent money on this book, I would have been livid.
The h (23) comes from a poor, dysfunctional family. She worked as a waitress in a café. She didn't like her job but it paid the bills. "College was fun, but now that I am out, I wish I had chosen a different major. If I had known that places didn’t want to hire English majors or that there wouldn’t be any jobs involving my degree, I would have chosen something totally different; that, of course, is how I ended up as a waitress." "“I studied English and majored in Journalism. I want to be a writer or an editor,”"
Her friend takes her to a classy club where she meets the H. He is a workaholic and took over his father's business once he finished college.
Writing style: I don't like reading the same scene twice, just from the other main characters perspective. It's a waste of my time and the author just trying to up her word count.
I also wouldn't have read this story had I'd known it ended in a cliffhanger. The H was a jerk at the end and I'm not invested in the characters enough to keep on reading.
Did not like it! I was lure by reading the blurb, thinking the h was a strong, independent woman! She is soooooo not it! The H is an a$$$$ and immature and treat the h very badly. He is very mean, selfish and HORRIBLE! The h is a pushover and keep going back to him, no respect for herself and keep being abused. The story end with the second book My perfect salvation where we learn how the H become the despicable guy than he is and the h and H get back together and everything is so perfect - what a joke! the H never say sorry and growel and the h has forgiven him in 2 minutes..pathetic! I waste time reading these books!
DNF at 50% and that rarely happens and I'm sorry to the author. This makes me feel awful, but I just couldn't handle the writing, I felt it was juvenile. The millionaire/billionaire falling for the abused girl, demanding she quit her job after 1 day, is just overdone. It's me, not you. I hope it got better after the first book, but I won't be finding out and honestly it makes me sad to leave a bad review.
Kenadee Bryant has that rare gift of amazing storytelling that only she can create and tell, regardless of genre. Her words jump off the page and straight into your heart. For Layla and Ashton, their journey and struggle to find each other and their happiness together becomes yours in Kenadee's book "My Perfect Ruin" and concludes with "My Perfect Salvation".
This is a new author for me. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed Layla and Ashton. He was a bit of a jerk and she tended to be a little on the softer side but towards the end of the book I noticed she started to get a stronger backbone. I can’t wait to read part 2.
I liked the characters in this story. The , oh so, true roller coaster of events involving attraction and relationships are believable. I want to see where this goes.
I didn’t like that during his point of view, we have to read w.e already happened in her point of you all over again. I didn’t like the ending!! This shouldn’t be a series
About a man who has been hurt sohe doesn't want to love. And a girl who has been hurt all her life and believes she is unlovable Ends on a cliffhanger.
