A World War II memoir. I served in Troop A of the 43rd Mechanized Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron as part of Patton’s Third Army from October 1943 to November 1945 and was on the front lines from August 5, 1944 until Germany's surrender on May 7, 1945. This is my story.
What it was like to be in recon for an armor division in WW2 Europe. Folksy kind of writing style. Not tooting his own horn, just one of America’s soldier describing as honestly as he can, one man’s service from 80 years ago. Technology has change but people haven’t. I appreciate his story and the time he took to share it.
How nice that WWII veterans wrote their stories about their lives and their view of the war. It is very enjoyable reading knowing it is true and not just facts but the feelings and emotion from the author who was on the scene when it happened.
A self narrated story of an American soldier who as a young man was forced to fight in WWII. Written in and told in a simple to understand and enjoy story. Fun reading and you may even shed a tear.
Thank you for sharing so many of your memories and experiences. It was amazing how far your unit traveled behind enemy lines! The matter of fact storytelling is very humbling. This is why your generation is regarded as the Greatest Generation!
A good biography of a young boy and his journey to manhood via WWII. Rather than focus on the details of the war, Bill recounts his feelings and experiences of the events from training through VE day and his return to civilian life. Interesting story.
