The Vampire Trick is the third book of a new young adult fantasy series by Michelle Madow. In the first book of the series, The Vampire Wish, we met Annika who had lost her whole family to a vampire attack and was taken hostage to the hidden vampire kingdom of the Vale where she is kept as a human blood slave to provide food for the vampires. Also introduced in the first book was Jacen who was also taken by the vampires against his will but unlike Annika who still remains human Jacen was turned against his wishes and now fights his desire to kill for blood. Jacen and Annika met and Jacen tried to help Annika escape but she was taken away with Jacen being led to believe she died and Annika believing Jacen had betrayed her.

In the second book The Vampire Prince Annika found herself in possession of a magical artifact that had trapped the ancient witch, Geneva. Whoever controlled the ring controlled Geneva so Annika had her power behind her as she continued to try to get revenge upon the vampires that killed her family and held her hostage. Meanwhile, Jacen had returned to the kingdom and was being forced to find a bride so with Geneva's help Annika planned to disguise herself and become his bride to have full access to the palace and destroy The Vale from the inside.

Now in the third book of the series Annika and Jacen's story picks up right where it was left off in the second book. Annika is still competing among the visiting princesses disguised as a vampire herself with Geneva's help. Annika's real goal when returning to the palace was to find a way to kill the vampire queen and little does she know that she and Jacen have more in common than she realizes. But will either be able to complete their plans with the wolves outside the kingdom planning an attack of their own?

Another great addition to this series from Michelle Madow. A fast paced young adult fantasy read that has easily had me hooked from the very beginning and this was no exception as she has yet again surprised me with events happening that one would never expect and leaving the reader just wanting more and more. The story moves quickly but always has just enough in the beginning to bring a reader right back where it had left off then move quickly into the action in this installment then bringing everything around to an exciting conclusion that had me wanting the next book immediately. As always I would recommend these to the fans of fast paced YA fantasy and eagerly look forward to seeing where the story goes from here on out.

I received a free advance copy of this book directly from the author, thank you to Michelle Madow for allowing me to read early.

This book asks the question what if a gender bent Aladdin met "The Selection" but with vampires and the answer is meh. And meh basically sums up this whole series thus far. Everything about this series is just okay, like the writing is fine, the characters are what you'd expect in a series like this (the special-est snowflake heroine, tortured bad bay who really isn't that bad or tortured), and the plot twists are predictable. The most interesting character is who was only in one very short chapter of this book! Like I would much rather read his story than this.

I should probably stop reading this series, I can guess how it all ends anyways, but I downloaded the omnibus version so it's super easy to keep going. The chapters are super short and the books themselves aren't very long and combine that with me skimming through the angst and this book just flew by. On to the next meh book in this series!

THIS BOOK. THIS B O O K. I cannot get over it, y'all!

Vampires with Canadian accents in golf carts! The Bachelor: Vampire Edition! Prophetic dreams from WEREWOLF JESUS!

I cannot get over this series, it's so unhinged. Lots of Christian imagery, though it's not utilized in a, shall we say, traditional way. It gives very non-religious-Christian-society rather than intentional engagement.

This is the best book of the series. The story of Jacen and Annika continues .
It is fast paced, exciting with betrayal, deceit, revenge and more twists and turns than a roller coaster, just when you think you figured it out it goes another way. I would highly recommend this book.

I received an ARC for my unbiased honest review!!

This is the third book in the series. It's a quick read and you will surely finish it in one setting. There is great character development and a wolf attack that will leave you reading even faster. I can't wait for the next!! Michelle Madow is quickly becoming my new favorite author!!

Make sure to read the first two books before diving into this one.

Review:

Characters: As the selection for Jacen's hand heats up these characters are in for a wild ride. Karina, still helping the wolves drive away the vampires on the Vale, wants nothing more than to be reunited with her one true love Peter, not knowing that Geneva's ring can never bring him back. Annika's life has been upended by vampires and she's still out for revenge but things are moving quickly and she might miss her one opening. Jacen doesn't really want this selection, he's just looking for someone who might help him take down Laila and bring a modicum of peace the Vale, but ousting Laila will be harder than he ever imagined. Finally, there's Camelia, still, on the path to immortality she prepares to meet with the fae, but what if they ask too much of her? I can't believe I'm saying this but I really love all of these characters, now that doesn't mean that some of these characters aren't evil and deserve to meet their end(s), but they are all written pretty well, and there's even a scene or two where I felt some modicum of sympathy for Camelia.

Romance: Another thing I wasn't quite expecting was for there to be some real romance between Annika and Jacen in this book. There's obviously the tricky aspect of Anikka's true identity to deal with, but I feel as though the author did a fantastic job with making me start rooting for this couple all over again. Now there are parts of this romance that did grate on me quite a bit, mainly that these two characters are pretty much the densest beings when it comes to each other. I mean Jacen keeps seeing bits of Annika in the alluring Princess Ana and even after he notes that their kiss felt familiar he still doesn't get it, and Annika doesn't realize that Jacen's cold demeanor is all an act, even when given nearly every shred of evidence needed. Even still they have a great chemistry and I'll be interested to see how much that will develop before the end of the series.

World-Building: Now this is what I'm talking about! After the previous installment, I was a bit worried going into this story. The Vampire Prince is almost entirely set up for the rest of (I assume) the series, and so not all that much happened in that book, but this book has all of the needed pay off of the previous installment. If it weren't for the fact that some of the stuff that happens in this book would feel too soon in the second book, I'd say that books 2 & 3 should have been combined. In this story, there's a lot that not only moves the plot of this story along further but also reveals a great deal about the world and still finds time to set up some pretty incredible stuff for the final installments. I really want to talk more and go into what about the world building was amazing and why, but to avoid spoilers I can't all I'll say is that if you thought about abandoning the series after the previous book, this book makes up for it and more.

Predictability: I honestly thought I knew what was going to happen in this book. I thought I knew how it would end, and a good idea of how it would be resolved, but nope. While I was able to predict a good chunk of this story it was mainly the obvious parts where the author never even attempted to be subtle with the foreshadowing. No, the really big stuff comes later, however, while I'll agree there is a twist I never saw coming, I don't think it's the twist the author was thinking of when writing the synopsis.

Ending: As much as I love this book and, in all honesty, the ending, it was a bit anticlimactic. There's something that happens at the end that while I wouldn't call it foreshadowing, practically gives arguably the biggest twist of this book away. Now, everything that happens after that anticlimactic climax is pretty fast paced and there's a definite cliffhanger here. I mean, the cliffhanger is the twist I never saw coming because there's never really any foreshadowing for it, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Book 4 can't come soon enough!

Rating:

Don't get me wrong, there's a part of me that really wants to give this book 5 stars. I mean it's so good and in comparison to book 2 it's astronomically better, but I just can't get over how, as much as I love them, these characters can be really dumb sometimes, and how the ending just fell flat and anticlimactic for me.

The entire series is rushing towards a climax and I can't wait to see what happens next! This installment is huge in the overall storyline. Everything that happens in this one, big or small, has a huge impact. Questions that I've had since the first story get answers and new questions arise. It's all coming to a head and this one leaves it all ready to explode.

description

The Vampire Wish series has yet again another impressive entry. The Vampire Trick is the sequel to The Vampire Prince and it continues the storyline in a refreshing and intriguing manner. The pacing is so perfect the book is literally unputdownable, the characters are just at the right place with a perfect interesting plot. The Vampire Trick began with the aftermath of Princess Bianca's elimination. Things between Annika (as Ana) and Jacen is still weird and awkward but he's determined to unearth her mysteries, while Annika is doing her best not to get eliminated so she'll get the chance to take down Laila. Karina is still colluding with the werewolves on their plot to take down the Vale, in the process she begins to develop feelings for Noah, the first prophet of the Wolves. He has qualities that remind her of the reasons she fell in love with the late love of her life, Peter. The selection is still as cutthroat as ever as the Princesses vie for the coveted position and Laila tries to nudge things in the way she wants it to be (That manipulative shrew). Annika and Jacen slowly thaw the iciness between them and grow closer despite the secrets they keep. Thankfully, the truth that he still has feelings for her (Annika that is) and is also trying to help the betterment of the humans is revealed to Annika. But the wolves have already been making their move along with Karina, they brought Jacen in for a neutral meeting to work on how they could all achieve their respective goals with the least bloodshed and loss of innocent lives. Laila is also still working with Camila on contacting the Fae. All these various storylines came together and finished with an explosive and impressive ending. One of the brilliant twists at the end was something that's been foreshadowed so I saw it coming though I didn't expect the way it was revealed, But that last one was certainly a pleasant terrifying surprise. I can't wait for more in this series, Michelle. Madow has made another masterpiece in her impressively extensive bibliography.

For some reason, I had thought this was going to be a trilogy. As I progressed through this book, I kept thinking, "There's no way we're going to get to the end of the story yet, this still feels like the middle." I was relieved to discover that this is not the end of this tale, but of course now I can't wait to read the next book! So much has happened, and this book really clarified things and drew lines in the sand. In book 2, everyone was still playing their cards close to the vest, so alliances hadn't been formed because no one knew who they could trust. Here, we start to see some of those partnerships form as people's actions and words let others know they are on the same side. There are also some pretty amazing revelations which explain things that were foreshadowed in the first two books. I love that Michelle Madow had a plan from the beginning, and things that we thought were trivial or confusing in the first book now suddenly make sense. There's also a bit of a nod to destiny, and that true love doesn't care what you look like, people will still find each other (as long as they don't screw it all up once they do.)

I love that this book is told from alternating perspectives, but always in the first person. We get to see the story through the eyes of several different characters, but as we do we are truly inside their head at the time, so it isn't just the events but also their motives that we experience. There's so much going on here, and so many characters are keeping secrets from each other, that this is necessary in order to fully understand the plot. Michelle has masterfully interwoven everyone's storylines, keeping the story coherent despite the changes in POV. Each character is also distinct, so we easily know who is talking even without flipping back to the beginning of the chapter. We get their personality, motives, as well as their actions. This is such a unique plot and a unique world - easily one of my favorite vampire series' ever!

I volunteered to review an ARC of this novel.

I didn't leave spoilers, but first I need to get this out, before I burst. What !! No way, How can he do that !! Don't run !! No, don't finish, I need to know !!!! There, all out, and that was another brilliant cliffhanger. Michelle Madow once again, has seamlessly carried on from book 2.
Picking up the gauntlet she has ran and ran with her imagination in the somewhat edge of seat quality embedded in this series. You really do need to read the first two books, to understand book 3, these are not stand alone stories. You will find so much ambuscade going on in this book. The story is told in the first person, so you can always hear the thoughts of the characters as they are built up around the main storyline. A few more characters have been added into this book, which I feel has enhanced the storyline, they haven't been introduced for frivolous reasons, to pad òut the story as some books do. No, everyone has there place in this continuing saga. I have enjoyed reading this series and better still the author is so good at getting her characters emotions to come alive so you can feel every breath, tear or smile. That it enables you to become so consumed with the story and plots, that it's hard to put down. If you want more definition on how I think Michelle Madow writes, then look at my previous reviews on book 1 & 2 as I don't want to keep repeating previous words, this time I wanted this review to come from the heart not the analysis of The authors previous work. It is an emotional rollercoaster with all the twists and turns throughout the storyline, but I can't wait for the next instalment, these books would be great as a tv series. Give them a shot, I definitely recommend them

Okay, now we're talking. While this series started off pretty rocky for me, it feels like it's getting its legs under it. Even though Annika's plan for imitating a vampire princess seemed pretty way out there and it seemed like there was absolutely NO way that it would work, she seems to be selling it.....kind of.

This is one of those books that you just have to take everything with a grain of salt. Don't try to delve too far into things and you'll be okay. The series has had that type of superficial quality to it from the beginning, but it feels like it might just be settling in.

I still can't stand Camilla and would be very happy to have her accidently trip and bash her head in.....Fortunately, after the events in this book, the foreshadowing is pretty easy to figure out and I kinda feel sorry for her when she realizes what she agreed to.

As usual, this is a really fast and easy read/listen. As usual, it ends in a cliffhanger, but I will say this. This ending is a doozy. Like I said at the beginning, things are moving now....

I received a free copy of this book from Michelle the author! Thank you Michelle, this is my review.

I literally read this novel in one sitting. I had the know what was going to happen with each character. This series is probably my favourite that Michelle has written. I love the story, the world is beyond interesting, the characters are relate-able, the men are ridiculous attractive (Jacen, and Noah....oh yum) and honestly I never know where Michelle is going to take the story. This novel was a game changer for this entire series! A lot of my questions I had were answered, and now a lot more have been rooted. I seriously can't wait for more from this world, I need to know what is going to happen!

**Warning** this series is highly addictive and will consume your day/nights reading it !!! Highly recommend this entire series ! I can't wait for the next installment already! The last few chapters I did not see coming!

* You need to read the previous books to understand this book at all.

As a competitor in the Selection to become vampire prince Jacen's bride, Annika has still been disguised by the witch Geneva as a proper vampire princess. But trouble is brewing and when the wolves attack the town and kill a lot of vampire's, all the players of this game knows they have to hurry up her timeline. And when a major player is taken of the playing field, all bets are off.

Okay, this was the best entry in this series thus far, at least there was some semblance of a story and we were given more background than we had in the previous books. Also, there were some twists in this story and some action scenes, so at least something happened. However, it was still very predictable and STILL, three books in, the characters are bland and forgettable. Will still power through the next books, but even though this is better it is still not recommend for me.

This book makes me glad I got past the first one. The Vampire Wish is kinda slow, there’s nothing really interesting going on. I would dare to say even boring. This one got me totally hooked.

As the other ones before this, there are a lot of POV’s here. The thing is: I like different POV’s, although that may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

The ending... I have to say there was something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, so I was kinda prepared for the plot twist. Honestly, it still blew me away.

PS : Marigold. What. The. Fuck. Je ne comprends pas.

First of all, I just want to say thank you to Michelle Madow for giving me an ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review. No compensation was given, offered, or taken to alter the opinion.

The Vampire Trick is the third book in the Dark World series by Michelle Madow. Annika and Jacen's story picks up right where it left off in The Vampire Prince. Annika, disguised as a vampire, is still competing among the visiting princesses to win Jacen's hand in marriage. This series had me hooked from the very beginning and this installment is huge in the overall storyline. Everything that happens in this one has a huge impact. This book is fast paced and filled with betrayal, deceit, revenge, and more twists and turns than a roller coaster. Just when you think you have it figured out, it takes a whole new direction. I definitely wasn't expecting THAT ending! I'm still in shock! I can't wait to see what happens next!!

In a kingdom full of secrets, no one can be trusted.

Wow. I don’t even know what to think right now. There is a lot emotion that going through me at this moment. It was…intriguing.

I am aware by now that Vampire Wish series has twists. Even I did not see that ending coming, I feel like I am in shock, along with everyone else. When Laila gave her that stake after Annika told her what her plan was, it never entered my mind that she would actually kill her. I was sure it would be end of Annika, last what I or anyone else expected for her to succeed. There was a part of me, that re-read the sentence couple times as to make sure that I read it right. I was in shock. I found myself thinking about it for a while after I finished the book. I couldn’t help but wonder, What will happen now that she’s dead? What does Jacen think of all this? I knew that I had to pick up next book in series right away. I wanted to see what would happen with everyone else next, especially Annika.

I loved the first two book in Vampire Wish series, but out of books I read so far, THE VAMPIRE TRICK was my favorite one, at least so far. I think it has the most stunning, mysterious cover than the other two had. Just the cover, and the title will drawn you into the story right away. I have that feeling that each book pulls you more into a story, to the point where you must force yourself to pull away from the story. I couldn’t. 2 more chapters turned into me reading for five more hours. I was glad that I started this on Friday night so I could read longer. Before I even realized I had reached the end out and was picking up the next book in series. There are few vampire series in past that I fell in love with. I know that Vampire Wish made it to the list as one of my all time favorite series. It’s a series that I know I will end up re-reading multiple times in the future.

Now, I can’t help but wonder what will happen between Annika and Jacen. She lied to him, I understood why she did. I could see that he was hurt that she didn’t, once it was revealed who Princess Ana was. I do hope that the two of them will reunite and find a way to each other. Even before Jacen found out that Princess Ana was Annika, there was a connection there. The two of them had a special bond since the two of them met. I am eager to see what happens between the two of them next. I wish that I read this series earlier than I have. If you love books about Vampires, you should check out Vampire Wish , it’s unlike any vampire book you read before. You will be hooked.

Be ready for thrilling ride.
