~ 4.5 ROYAL STARS ~
"You're not going to make it very easy to walk away, are you?"
description

The Royal Treatment is a laugh out loud contemporary romance full of delightful characters, a unique plot, romance, and humor! This modern day fairy tale romance is a perfect blend of the Princess Diaries meets Bridget Jones with an extra special twist. As the first book in A Crown Jewels Romance, The Royal Treatment is an absolute delight!

description
"I believe my carriage has just turned back into a pumpkin, hasn't it?"
Tessa Sharpe is a spunky young woman who has found minimal notoriety as a blogger. She blogs about many different things but has become known as "The Royal Watchdog." She has found success by writing about her disdain for Prince Arthur and the Royal Monarchy. When Prince Arthur and the monarchy's future is put in jeopardy, Arthur decides to make a brave PR move. He decides to bring Ms. Sharpe to live at the palace and experience the monarchy first hand in hopes to sway her opinion of the family and therefore becoming a positive voice to the people of Avonia.

description
"From what I've heard, you'd do well to invite him back to your room."
Tessa is quite leery of Arthur and when she arrives to the palace she is quite surprised to discover what a good person the crowned Prince is. Tessa begins to doubt her stand and her position of "The Royal Watchdog" becomes secondary to a blooming romance between herself and Prince Arthur. But can a commoner and a Prince actually find a happy ever after together?

description
"I don't know which brand it is,
but it should be called 'Spontaneous Orgasm'.
Told in dual POV, The Royal Treatment is a fresh and funny romance full of witty text and well developed characters. Both Tessa and Arthur come from completely different worlds, and yet, together they make a perfect match. One of my favorite moments in the book was when Tessa brought Arthur home to meet her family. I loved the banter between the characters and Tessa's family was hilarious. Another stand-out character is Arthur's grandmother. Her views on the ways of the world are laugh out loud funny. Tessa is such a clumsy person and paired with the eloquent crowned Prince created an overabundance of funny moments full of tenderness and love. The steam factor in this read is low and yet; there were plenty of moments that left me swooning and wanting more! I have always been a fan of M.J. Summers and to discover her comedic side was nothing short of enchanting!

Overall, I cannot recommend this read enough! The Royal Treatment is one romantic comedy you do not want to miss. I am completely hooked on these characters and the kingdom of Avonia, and I cannot wait to read more!

Personal Review at hearts-of.mine.com
So....
I loved the author's dedication at the beginning of the book but that's all I enjoyed up to the 18% mark.
This was supposed to be a fun Hate to Love Romance but I didn't laugh once!

I was already put off by the prince informal introduction/tirade where he makes clear being a prince is just difficult and boring:

He wakes up early, works out because he needs to maintain his body "in top princely condition", gets briefed on his shedule for the day and proceeds attending either "incredibly tedious meetings, or visiting ghastly depressing places such as the children’s hospital."

He doesn’t get laid as often as he would like to, he has no idea what a maid's white cap is for and he later states:
❝ Why do chicks dig books so much? Books and horses. I'll never understand it.❞

The Royal Treatment by MJ Summers

Also...he clearly thinks lesbians are manly and prone to hate him:
❝Blogger. Just really hates the monarchy.”
“Usual reasons? Taxes, patriarchal society, blah, blah, blah?” She’s probably a lesbian. They tend to hate us.
[...]
A picture of a lovely little blonde smiles back at me. Those long waves caressing her shoulders don’t exactly say lesbian. The glossy pink lips say ‘good to go,’ which quite frankly is my target audience. “She’ll be perfect.❞
The Royal Treatment by MJ Summers
Charming Prince...he is not.
The woman that is supposed to become his match isn't much better.

Frustrated by her family that underestimate her, she's a blogger/former journalist that values her luxury shoes more than reporting the truth:
❝I find it fascinating that anyone would devote so much time and energy to discrediting people you’ve never met. I’m very curious about what motivates you.”
Money. I stare at him for a moment while I consider my answer. I can’t very well tell him the truth. How do you say, ‘Nothing personal. I just realized the meaner I got, the more people read my stuff, and the more shoes I could buy’? You don’t.❞

Yeah...she's definitely not my kind of "heroine".

The plot didn't grab my attention and the MC annoyed me greatly.

Tessa Sharpe has been unlucky in love and the workforce, especially after her latest love conquest with her boss ended up with her leaving her job as a reporter, as it was either that or be fired for a sexual harassment claim as it was her word against his. Her days are now spent blogging and reviewing items like the new electro-shock belt for running. Her most popular blog is a Political site where she rants about the royal family of Avonia especially Prince Arthur. Prince Arthur is heir to the throne and Tessa sees him as a playboy - sleeping around and drinking and well - having fun. With the referendum coming up of the possibility of dissolving the royal family and the votes not being in the royal families favor. Prince Arthur decides to open up the castle to his worst critic blogger Tessa Sharpe. Tessa reluctantly accepts and moves into the castle. During the time at the castle though Tessa starts to like Prince Arthur and see him in a different light. One of my favorite parts of this book was the relationship between Tessa's brothers and herself, and I loved how Arthur stood up for her. The other thing I loved was the laughs in The Royal Treatment by MJ Summers and as a blogger myself, I could relate to Tessa. Overall, can two natural enemies find their forever in each other’s arms, or will they ruin each other to save themselves? Find out in Book #1 of the Crown Jewels Romance series by MJ Summers - The Royal Treatment.

The Royal Treatment was hilarious from start to finish. I loved absolutely everything about this book. I love when I can find good books on my Kindle Unlimited account - plus since it's Thanksgiving and everything a feel-good romantic comedy book is just what I needed to read. Both of the characters, Arthur and Tessa, were practically made for each other. I just loved everything about them - I loved their whole banter and totally saw them falling in love pretty early on.

I can't wait to read the second book today!!

4 stars for The Royal Treatment

This was a fun, light story that had me laughing out loud at several parts. I loved Arthur, who started off as kind of a jerk but quickly wormed his way into the heroine's heart (and mine!!) I'm not usually big on books with royalty, but after reading The Royal We The Royal We I decided to expand my horizons and give this a shot. I wasn't disappointed.

If you enjoy well-written, light hearted fun that will have you giggling out loud, grab this book for sure.

Why did I take so long to get to this wonderful comedy?

3.5.

Since she was unfairly blocked from more official jobs as a journalist, Tessa has been trying to grow as a blogger/vlogger, and her biggest revenue is The Royal Watchdog, where she expresses her critical views on the existence of the royal family. Prince Arthur has always kept to the public but now the Prime Minister wants to extinguish monarchy he'll have to take drastic measures. That's how Tessa ends up invited to live in the palace for two months, in hopes she'll change her view and of her followers'.

Of course, this is still chick lit and there's not much that will discern it from many others. Even though the authors try to apply a realistic view of the prince's daily activities, which was very interesting, it wasn't anything new. To be honest, as a journalist, Tessa was very naive to think he'd just sit there all day long.

By the way, a lot of the headcanon of how a royal family works this book reminded me of a m/m romance I loved, His Royal Secret. I'm not criticizing—to be honest, I loved going back to that world, especially since the author never wrote anything else after the duology. The things is that the similarities made me aware of plotholes. The most prominent example is Arthur's sister, who he describes as fragile and implies something may have happened to her before. If the series meant each book would explore a different character, I'd understand that was a teaser for the second number, but it's not the case. What we see from the princess is a quite strong-willed woman—the very opposite of what happens in His Royal Secret, where these very words eventually developed into a dramatic subplot plus reason for, well, let's stop here and go back to this book.

What I mean is that we had a lot of ways the plot could have deepened but never did. I'm sure some of those won't be dead ends and will come in later volumes, but it made the book seem to go to next level and in the end I was disappointed that was all.

My other issue was the unnecessary drama due to stupid misunderstandings. I thought we had left the cliche behind a decade ago, so I felt impatient having to go through the same drama any Hallmark Chanel movie will repeat ad nauseam.

In any case, this was still a very enjoyable romantic comedy. I may have my problems but it was just that I started the book and I could immediately see the quality. I honestly wasn't expecting, and that's why in the end I took it seriously. But as a pleasure read, this is perfect. It'll keep you entertained with that silly smile we want when getting books like this to read. Also, we have a pig for a pet, how different is that?

I highly recommend this to any fans of romantic comedies.

*I voluntarily reviewed this book from the author.

Witty, fun, and with plenty of heart, THE ROYAL TREATMENT by Melanie Summers is an enjoyable read from start to finish.

Tessa Sharpe is a journalist at heart, but when a love affair gone wrong results in her being fired, Tessa starts a blog about the Royal Family, and questions every part of their existence as she believes there is no need for this institution in the modern world. Surviving on paid ad content and doing the odd product review, things are tight and it doesn't help that the rest of her family are super successful in their chosen fields. But when she gets the opportunity to live and shadow the Crown Prince, Arthur, Tessa jumps at the opportunity. He is by far the laziest and worst of them all, no matter how handsome he is, and this could be the perfect opportunity to get her career back on track. But what will happen when she spends time with those she ridicules and realises that all is not what it seems? And when Tessa and Arthur begin to feel things for each other that they probably shouldn't, who knows what craziness could happen ...

A clever plot with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments along the way, THE ROYAL TREATMENT by Melanie Summers has characters that will become like family. Tessa is feisty, smart, funny, and determined, but is also vulnerable in certain areas and is desperate to make something of herself. Arthur may look like he has everything handed to him on a silver platter, and in some ways he has, but there are many layers to this man who cares deeply for those he loves and wants to make a difference.

With plenty of ups and downs, twists and turns, and misunderstandings along the way, THE ROYAL TREATMENT is truly a treat and I look forward to reading more from Melanie Summers.

The Royal Treatment is the first installment of the Crown Jewels Romance series by M.J. Summers.

Some people find the use of profanity entertaining. I find it disturbing, disconcerting, and offensive. Therefore, I skip books that make a habit of using such needless words. I found the author's attempt at humor very disappointing. The book literally failed to fulfill my hopes or expectations of the potential story. This book falls into the "DNF" pile for me.

Just two examples in the book . . . . .

Chapter 1 - (A special note from Prince Arthur)
" I hate to tell you this, ladies, but if you've ever watched a Hollywood Film - or even worse -- a made for TV movie about a royal family, you've been served up a steaming plate of horseshit."

Chapter 2
"Oh, bugger!" The car speeds off while laughter spills from the open windows.
"You little ... tramps!" I holler, which only makes them laugh harder. I'm only twenty-eight, but to them, I'm a dripping wet middle-aged hag and my use of the word 'tramps' only confirms it for them. But I will not swear. There are children standing nearby Oh, I did say bugger, didn't I? Shit."

Potty-mouthed dialogue does not a comedy make. This is NOT even remotely humorous!

After two chapters, I was more than ready to throw in the towel. So, I did.

In my opinion, the readers were ripped off. I will not be attempting to read the remainder of this series.

Song for summary: Don’t Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John

An uproariously funny read! The characters are comical, down-to-earth, and fetching; while the plot is a hilarious romp following the misadventures of Prince Arthur, and the Royal Watchdog, Tessa Sharpe. I absolutely loved this book, it had me laughing from start to finish. This is the ultimate romantic comedy, and I definitely recommend!

Tessa- A blogger who thunks the royal family is completely unnecessary and thinks they should get up with the 21st century.

Arthur- The prince in the royal family trying to win over people's opinions invites Tessa to stay with him for two months to change her opinion

This book was so good! I didn't want to stop reading it! I'm a sucker for modern day royal romance stories and I'm so happy this book delivered! I think the romance could have dragged on a bit more but aside from that a fantastic read! I'm for sure going to have to look into. Ore works from this author!

this was such a fun, light-hearted read! It reminded me of bridget jones' diary (love those movies). The dry, sarcastic humor was the same, and I actually had to stop myself from laughing out loud a bunch of times. I was mad this was close door romance tho, cause the potential was there guys. Also, who doesn't like a love confession? Chasing her throughout the city? 💳💥💳💥
The one thing that was icky for me was that he called his yk what a 'scepter' like, SIR?! i know you're a prince and all, but...
That atrocity aside, I was giggling and kicking my feet at Arthur and Tessa and always a sucker for royal x commoner relationships. I'm weirdly glad this series is just about them cause I'd love to see their cute relationship grow.

It was serendipitous that Amazon recommended this book to me at a time when I really needed a good, pick-me-up read. I'm a sucker for a royal romance, and The Royal Treatment provided me with one that was absolutely swoon-worthy, as well as some hearty laughs. The premise of the book is a clever one--Fearful that an upcoming vote might mean the end of the monarchy in Avonia, Prince Arthur needs some good PR for his family, so he invites Tessa Sharpe, the most ardent anti-royalist in the blogosphere, to come and stay at the palace for a couple of months, thinking that if he can win her over, the rest of the country will follow suit. Tessa is determined to stay objective and report the facts (too bad the facts are that Prince Arthur can be quite charming when he wants to be and he looks smokin' hot without his shirt). Will Tessa be able to resist temptation? Can Arthur finally let down his guard and be real with someone? And how can they ever trust each other when they're both harboring secrets and hidden agendas?

The chemistry between the two leads in this book was palpable; they were combative, playful, and steamy, sometimes all in the same scene! It was easy to see why they fell for each other, and also why getting involved was a very bad idea as they were not only idealistically opposed, but came from completely different worlds. The development of their relationship is a roller coaster ride of emotional ups and downs, and I empathized (and wanted to shake some sense into) both Arthur and Tessa at various points. In other words, this was a great, wonderfully complex love story and the royal backdrop upped the stakes considerably.

I loved the way the author wove humor throughout the fabric of the story, starting with a hilarious incident involving Tessa and her bestie, Nikki, early in the book. This incident becomes a viral video that's continually referenced as the story progresses, and it never stopped being funny! I, also, smiled every time Dexter, Arthur's pet pot-bellied pig, showed up on the page. He had a lot of personality and was a great sidekick for the prince! Arthur's grandmother, plain-spoken Princess Dowager Florence, was a hoot as well. I got a kick out of her trying to matchmake Arthur and Tessa.

The Royal Treatment ends in an appropriately grand and romantic way, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next for Arthur and Tessa in the follow-up. I'm so glad to have discovered this author and hope she keeps writing delightful stories with memorable characters like this one!

Well...First disappointment of the year!

I was very drawn to the royal romance trope, but the fact that in every page there was some sexist stereotype, made me want to commit arson.
It reminded me of when I was 13 and I wrote my first poor excuse of a book, and because it was from the povs of both protagonists, every time I wrote for the guy I said something sexist or mean. Yeah, pretty cringy... Well, this book is LITERALLY LIKE THAT, but written by a grown adult.

If you still don't believe me about this, I'll give a few examples that... Judge yourself:

"Hers (castle) is slightly bigger, and the fact that I can admit that should indicate that I have no need to compensate for anything, wink, wink"

"She's probably a lesbian. They tend to hate us." (And right after) "Those long waves caressing her shoulders don't exactly say lesbian."

"My sceptre wakes up and asks if we're going somewhere, because, even though I feel like shit, he'd be up for that." (Yes, he is talking about the protagonist and his dick)

I don't know, I just want to read a good romance story, that can have hate to love, without sexist, homophobic and in general, stereotypes. I mean, apart from those examples it is also very poorly written and the plot is very bad. Did I mention the protagonist has 4 brothers that are the definition of straight white men, success, beer and football, and that she is the unsuccessful, republican, daughter of the family. It's more trope than book at this point. Also, it is supposed to be a fake country with the dumbest name ever, were everyone talks in American english, except for the prince that just likes to throw twat every two sentences.

I genuinely like talking about bad books don't I? I'll leave it here. My recommendation is to not read this garbage, you are welcome.

I can categorically say this that I have, after a really long time, found an author I would genuinely looking forward to in the future.
The book is just perfectly airy and sweet to give that heady romantic feeling, and just enough thorough in its plot to steer you away from any possible headaches over plot loopholes.
And the cover. So darn minimalistic. I love it!

It's no secret I love anything MJ Summers writes. She gave me my first book boyfriend in the Full Hearts Series, I'll be forever grateful for that one. This book is the first of a new series and a bit different for her writing and she just bats it right out of the park. The book has it all. Throw in huge amounts of humor and I'm running to the bathroom... you get the picture.
This story is about Tess who writes an anti-monarch blog, living in a country that still has a King as ruler and a Prime Minister. Tess has some issues with the way the royal family doesn't show itself.
Which leaves a lot of room for speculation and some really great writing on her part. I loved Tess, she's a bit klutzy, sweet and as the only girl among 4 brothers she's the butt of far too many jokes.
When Tess makes a comment about the royals and the oh so handsome Prince Arthur, he throws down a challenge for Tess to come and spend 2 month at the castle and living there and seeing exactly what he does do all say. Tess can't back down from the offer and with a rumor the PM is trying to bring a vote to dismantle the monarchy Arthur is on overtime. He's really sweet. These two were like oil and water when they first met, not enough to be annoying, just the little barbs that Tess was so good at throwing. Arthur would get one in now and then but for the most part he went with it.
Having had his men do a complete background check on her, right down to her bra size-yep, he knew how to manipulate her just enough. Arthur has a pet pig name Dex. I loved the pig.
When things get real between these two that's when the story gets really personal between these two, Arthur losing his Mother at a young age, how much she loves crisps, he goes home with her to a family birthday party, things heat up between these two and the inevitable happens. The royal sheets have a high thread count... just so you know. Things sail along nicely, there are some well placed twists in the book which I'm not spilling and when the Prince's father comes home, the whole house gets tense. Arthur stands up to his father and defends both Tess and how the people of the country deserve better.
When the shoe drops, literally the night of the big ball Tess runs. She leaves the castle, leaving Arthur behind after everything they've said and done... Going home she's faced with a load of problems, she's neglected her blog, she's sick over Arthur and she's also broke. Having to move home is the last straw. Arthur never contacts her, further making her believe it was nothing but lies. The lifespan of the Monarchy still hangs in the balance and after Tess writes her last blog post she goes head to head with the PM in public. He's one unhappy man. Arthur who has had his head somewhere sees her on TV and finally goes after her. But does he get her? Does he even know where to look? Can there be any sort of reconciliation between these two? Can she trust him with her heart? Can he accept all her quirks?
Read this book, it's the right amount of angst, although I got nervous at one point, but that's MJ keeping me on my toes. A pleasant amount of steam between them. Both Arthur and Tess are perfect in the tiny little imperfections. I loved them together. I loved his Grandmum. Wise woman she was.
I loved the book, I just loved it. It's a page turner and it's a happy book. Something we all need to read once in a while. Happy love, nothing better than that.
I can't wait for the next book! (she says bouncing in her seat)

This is an absolute gem! My first book by Ms Summers and I am ready to jump right into the 2nd book in this series. She is a fantastic author, I was hooked from the first page.

Tessa is a blogger, who is barely getting by, who writes about how obsolete the Royal Family is. For the past few years, she has garnered quite a following. When Tessa comes to stay at the palace, she finds out her preconceived ideas about the Prince and his family are way off base. Prince Arthur is so much more than he presents to the people. The entire Royal Family comes across as snobby simply because they are all very private people. She also finds out that Arthur is even more good looking and personable than he has been portrayed and she is not able to resist him although she did put up a good fight. He needs her to change her mind about him so she will write kinder blogs and sway the public's view on the monarchy.

I have to say, I laughed out loud so many times in this book! Tessa was such a cute, endearing clutz! I could picture every antic that happened in my mind just perfectly. Especially the Shock Jogger! I loved how they carved their "just two people" spaces where they could just be Arthur and Tessa, ordinary people. I loved EVERYTHING about this book!

This is a DEFINITIVE YES to read! And you will be like me and want to read the rest of this series, too!
