In 1958, young Vivian Flynn planned to hold a cascading bouquet of daisies when she walked down the aisle. Then tragedy struck. Nearly six decades later, she’s sitting in Mary O’Reilly Alden’s office seeking assistance in finding her long lost love. With the help of Stanley and Rosie Wagner, Mary must solve the sixty year old mystery that took the life of dedicated teacher Robert Baker and reunite his spirit with his bride-to-be.
This was my first adventure into the Mary O'Reilly world, but my second book by Mary Lamphere. I've already purchased and started reading my third, Kinder Garden. Edit wise, I noticed only 1 typo, which for an e-book these days is pretty damn good. I read the book on my Kindle. The formatting on dialog indentations was off. A few times I got confused because I thought the same person was speaking until I got to the end of the sentence. Not a big deal, but something I hope is fixed for later books. The story was spot on. I'd call it a quick, cozy read. Definitely a novella. I really enjoyed the paranormal aspect and the Mary O-Reilly character. I could see where the author had fun with the character Vivian. I really liked the scene at Krape Park.
Spoiler
I was expecting something more from the resolution. The tension for finding Mr Baker built really well. And the scene at the locker once Mary was onto the trail of James added a lot of anticipation. I wanted more scenes like that! It could be that the Mary O-Reilly world is cozy and not meant for evil, but I thought James needed to be a bit more... dangerous.
While I wait and wait for the baby 🚼to be born (Mary O'Reily's), Mary Lamphere's stories will beautifully fill my reading habit!! Really enjoyed this book and look forward to Kinder Garden. Keep giving us more O'Reilly stories, too!
