Caleb Forester, a charming nurse with a trademarked smile, is having a fine time at life. He left a terrible situation and found himself in a much better one at Sierra View, and for that, he was constantly grateful. He would have been perfectly fine without any waves rocking his boat.
Everything was just… fine.
Red Miller is the actor everyone wants to see on the big screen. Aside from having an overflowing bank account, Red was rich in charisma and sex appeal. From the outside looking in, anyone would have thought the action star and billionaire heir lived a great life with his girlfriend and millions of adoring fans.
The tidal wave came the day Red and Caleb first met, wiping out both their boats and showing them there was much more to life and love than they let themselves believe.
Caleb must now reckon with his past while Red with his future. When outside forces from all sides start pushing in, they both must find the strength to stop from crumbling or end up breaking from the pressure. ______________ Code Red is the second book in the Sierra View series, although they can be read in any order. It's a full-length, steamy gay romance and has no cliffhangers.
EDIT: Im uping my rating to 4 stars because I did actually enjoy this one and I think I was being a tad harsh knocking two stars off for a minor plot issue.
Argh Max Walker has done it again to me. I always love the ideas behind his books and, in the main, they're always an enjoyable read. But there's always something which just stops me from being able to rate them 5*.
This time round it's a bizarre side plot which involves blackmail for no really justified reason - i.e. the reason given in the book plot just didn't work at all for me - so all the tensions in what was a very fast instalove story came via something I couldn't fully get on board with.
Still, both Caleb and Red were lovely characters, I loved their banter and their emotional connection to each other which did feel like it was one of those - attraction at first sight - situations, they probably got to the declarations of love a bit quickly but other than that, their romance was super sweet.
I also absolutely loved the intro chapter, it was a clever way to introduce Red and it worked really well. I also liked how the red herring of Red's dad possibly being against their romance worked out and I liked that Red, once he decided he wasn't going to stay in the closet and Caleb wasn't going to be a secret, went all out to declare it.
And, once again, Max has two of the most beautiful men on his book cover!
I never tire of Max Walkers writing or his wonderful, adorable characters. When Red and Caleb first met on the movie set where Caleb had been asked to do a small part in one of Red's movies...they wanted a real nurse to deliver the few lines and Caleb was the lucky guy that was chosen...I had doubts that I was going to like Red very much. Not only was he a big hugely successful movie star, but he was also a big, successful closeted movie star. To make matters worse he had an actress posing as his girlfriend and she seemed to be hoping that it would become more than an acting role. He and Caleb hit if off though from the start. We get to meet again with two of the main characters from the first book, doctor Dean Harper and Noah Silver, but mostly it's a straight told tale of lust, missed chances, and hopes for the future, told in alternating points of view. Each chapter brings us more clarity and makes us hope that everything is going to work out for them. By the third chapter I had changed my opinion of Red. I absolutely loved him. He was giving a lot of thought to coming out. Not just to get his byline int he papers but for Caleb and their possible future. He didn't ever want Caleb to ever feel like his "dirty little secret". Caleb was also a neat character. He loved his job at the hospital and was very practical about his life while terrified as to what could happen after evil pops up into his life once again. The worse mistake of his life was back working at the same hospital and had less than beautiful plans for Caleb that didn't include Red. No matter how much Caleb wants it to skip Red... that evil does find its way into Red's life, and the result is a chapter or two of hurt, angst and near violence which could have used some more depth and detail in its resolution. But...all's well that ends well. We get a sneak peek at one of the main characters in the next book in the series. Oh...and I loved the cover picture of this one.
***** A charming story of a movie star and a male nurse. Red is filming nearby and gets injured. Caleb checks him before the doc will, and he's star struck seeing him up close. Caleb's smile and sense of humor draws Red in. Both in their 30s, they are so cute together, so witty. They meet again when Caleb plays a bit part as a nurse during filming. They begin hanging out, boating, etc. Red is still closeted, and "dating" Selena. Red's dad has been ill, but he'd like to finally come out to him first. He wants an open life and wants it with Caleb. The guys are incredibly hot together, and the sex scenes are sizzling. Caleb's past comes into view, and Red is viewing a new future. Red's agent and Caleb's ex turn out to be evil blackmailers, but the men are strong. The whole cast are interesting people and we absolutely LOVE our men. Max Walker is a fantastic writer, and really gives our hearts some huge hugs. Descanso Gardens, LA The epilogue is marvelous, and we look forward to Crow's story next. Each book can stand alone, but it's so much nicer to know the previous characters also. I loved it ! Highly recommended. ENJOY ! =======================
DNF @ 65%...... the worst of all is that I really enjoyed the beginning of the story. Red's first appearance was awesome but after 45% the plot was a nightmare.
Sometimes, the chapters felt too long and they were kinda of repetitive. There was too much bullshit. The banter was good at first but then it was too much for me, they joked in moments when they didn't have to and it was too forced.
Uhg, this is a super 'meh' to me. I don't know if this gets better in the last 35% but honestly I don't wanna find out. What's the point? I was already going crazy after 45%.
Even though there were strange little things going on in this book, like missing words and a confusing scene or two, I still liked the array of emotions that we got from Red and Caleb! This author does seem to have a tendency of not expanding the angst part of the story... consider how great a few more details on certain issues, , would have improved the overall dynamics of the situation!
That having been said, this was a VERY entertaining story with great characters... I just wish more time was spent on proofreading and giving us a solid background on the "bad guys"! ;D
Now, going to go see what kind of trouble Mr. Walker has in store for Crow... *grin*
Rarely do books that feature well-defined physical specimens get a boost from an accurate cover. This one does and it helps because mega movie star Red Miller (on the right) and hospital nurse Caleb Forester get all lumpy and tongue tied and off-the-wall hot for each other as soon as they meet. This despite the fact that Red is deep in the closet with an actress as his beard, and Caleb is very wary of any relationship worming its way into his life for reasons which are not quite explained until someone evil shows up at the hospital.
This one features some important appearances by the MCs from the first book, doctor Dean Harper and Noah Silver, but it is basically a straight-on tale of lust and missed chances told in alternating POV chapters that bring us some clarity every step of the way. Red is especially fleshed out, much more than the stereotypical celebrity hiding in the closet, and his angst, while profound, does not seem to cripple his desire for Caleb, or the truth.
Caleb is such a neat character, wrapped up in his little fantasy world of mindless entertainment, yet very practical about his life while terrified as to what could happen after evil pops up into his life once again. That evil is compounded by another which finds its way into Red's life, and the result is a chapter or two of hurt, angst and near violence which could have used some more depth and detail in its resolution.
But, so what. We get our HEA, a sneak peek at one of the MCs in the next book in the series, and a couple of guys who live up to their cover potential.
So I had 2 tear jerking moments reading Code Red and I’m not ashamed to admit that. Okay so, Code Red is the second book in Max Walker’s Sierra View series and this one was more Romance/Drama than the first Romance/Mystery. I’ve stated before that after reading two of Walker’s books, I dubbed thee the king of the genres romance and mystery and after reading Code Red, I’m starting to think that I was wrong and that he can mix any genre with romance and the story will still be beautifully written. In Code Red we meet the ever so lovable Caleb and the hottest man alive, actor Red Miller. Caleb scores a scene as a nurse in Red’s movie and when the two meet, the attraction is instant and the set is on fire! Of course what’s a romance story without drama? Well a plain Jane romance BUT Max has the smarts to throw in just enough drama to keep you turning the pages to the very end. Again, finished in one sitting, I enjoyed this story that much. You have a closeted actor is just about ready to throw it all away for a man who was badly hurt by is vindictive and douchebag ex, everyone be damned. Story about being true to yourself, letting happiness in, and taking a chance, are all present and written perfectly! The characters share such real human emotions and qualities; definitely a plus when I’m reading. Five stars for Max Walker’s Code Red. Now excuse me while I go and pick up the third book..Happy Reading!
This is an awesome read! A great storyline and amazing characters that will set your kindle on fire. What happens when a HOT nurse meets a devastatingly handsome actor? Sparks fly and lives change. Red Miller is an actor that is still in the closet with a fake girlfriend. When he meets Caleb Forester, a nurse, who has come to say a few lines in Red's movie, he knows it's time to come out. But outside forces are determined to keep these two apart. Are they strong enough together to overcome?? A great story of HOT men and HOT SEX and a future that is waiting in the wings. Highly recommend!!❤️❤️
4.5 Stars... This is another one of Max Walker's fantastic stories in this series. Code Red was gorgeous, I loved Red and Caleb getting together with a few bumps along the way of course. Red was an actor who loved doing his own stunts for his rolls he played in movies. He acted straight but was he.. Nurse Caleb was on his break when his friend, Noah informs him that he'll be in a movie scene with the hottest guy out there. When Caleb and Red meet there's an instant zig zapping between them and both of them know it. Smoke and Mirrors but when will the mirror's break.. I'll look froward to reading book three of Crow's story, I'm so loven this series.. woop
I think this one definitely deserves five stars. I really like how this one had a different conflict. Don’t get me wrong I love the whole murder mystery/stalking , but I like that this one was you know a little something different. Then I think the thing that topped this book was the two main characters. They for me made the book. I love Caleb in book one and here he was incredible. He was sweet and so funny and loving and then red wow. He was incredibly brave. I found everything to just be so touching in the book and I really loved the epilogue. The epilogue made me cry with everyone just hanging around and catching up. It just was so cute.
I loved Code Silver and was worried that you couldn't keep up with my expectations -- no worries now! Loved Red and Caleb, and totally loved how they were growing into their love. The main reason I really enjoy Max Walker's stories is that he takes mature adults and they act as adults with of course insecurities which we all have, no tantrums or reverting to being teenagers.
This was a wonderful love story with two equally wonderful men! Can't wait for the next story!
I can forgive a lot of things in a book, I can forgive fudging timelines for Noah and Dean, I can forgive contrived villains and conflict, I can even forgive a relatively sedate plot. But forgetting called had a cart until the damn epilogue? Ugh! No mentions of the fluff ball throughout, what a terrible owner. Besides that, the characters were good, but nothing new, and the whole "coming out" thread completely glossed over. It would have been better than the first, but I couldn't stop worrying about the cat.
What the heck happened here? Did another author take over half way through? Everything was moving along at a good pace, which good character development, then BANG! Halfway mark and it's as though the author started just jumping through the random stock standard MM fiction plot points without any build up. The threat came into play and it was ridiculous and had no foundation. Was the author in a hurry to finish this book? I just started skimming. The first half of the book could have been a solid 3-star, but 2nd half was no better than 1-star
I love Max Walker's books. He writes with style and passion and plenty of humour. I smiled all the way through this book. Caleb and Red are wonderful main characters, their story is beautifully written. The supporting characters are great. Max's books always deliver a solid story which gets you hooked from the first page. Oh, and I'd love to live in Red's house! Another great book, highly recommended. Can't wait for more!
Max does it again! I could not help but fall in 💘 with these sexy men. This was so well written. I loved the strong characters. The story made my pulse race, gave me heart twinges, and made me wish the next book was here already. Fantastic story line, great description to detail, wonderful character development. One of my favorites by Max.
Having been burned once before Caleb concentrates on his job till he finds a man he sparks with. Red and Caleb have so much chemistry together and fit so well. I was so happy that not once in the book does the fact that Red has more money than Midas come into play as a factor at all. I think this was the first time I have seen that and I loved it! Any problems that happened was about personal things not what one person had in their bank account or lack there of.
From the get go, I was totally hooked on Red and Caleb. Before they even met, their individual personalities were wonderful to meet. Then when they met, fireworks went off, bells were ringing and all was right in the world. I wanted to smack Peter and Jackson upside their heads for what they put the boys through . Dean and Noah were amazing friends to Caleb and then Red as well. I am really looking forward to reading Crow's story!
I liked the strength of the characters in the book however I think the story would have worked better if Dean the doctor form Code Silver was involved in the discussion about Jackson behaviour. The story around Jackson behaviour in relation to his previous relationship with Caleb and how that transcend into him wanting to destroy Caleb's relationship with Red did not gel well. Disappointed.
Caleb and Red's story was a nice easy read. Caleb is lovely and Red seems reasonably balanced for a film star, together they make a sweet caring couple. There's an additional plotline of wicked stepmum, which just fizzles out. At the end, there's a potential blackmail plot that created a spot of angst for the lovebirds, which nicely gave us two other villains! A nice easy read.
This was a fun book, a smidgen of angst, but overall a fun sexy book. The epilogue was ok, but we didn't get a few answers even though it was down the track. The wedding, Caleb's family. The outcome of Jackson and Peter, Red's dad and wife. Why Lily had that last name... mmm I suppose I'll just have to imagine.
This was my first book by this author and I am happy to have found him. It was a quick read for me, but that's because once I started reading I couldn't stop! Two good main characters, nice story line with just enough angst. Will look for more to read from this author!
I felt bad for Red feeling like he couldn't be himself but after finding Caleb everything change and the heartwarming moment with father was sweet Peter and Jackson need to get over themselves quit acting like they can control people like they ruled the world I'm glad they for caught they deserved to be in jai
Caleb and Red had an intense chemistry from their 1st meeting and nothing could stop them from falling in love with each other. However, many outside forces attempt to rip them apart like Caleb's ex and Red's manager. The couple attempt to overcome any odds that come their way, but there is threat that they weren't expecting that nearly tears them apart.
Max knows how to write a story!! The characters are engaging, witty, smart, kind. Their love story is always solid. Then at the very end he adds some drama that is not needed or doesn't really make sense. This would have been a 5 star for me if it wasn't for the crazy ex at the end. (I am not sure why he is evening seeking revenge?!?!?!)
Red is a movie star and Caleb is a nurse that gets small part in the latest movie Red is in. Instant attraction for both Red and Caleb. The only problem is that Red is in the closet. There are several bumps and a few people out to see them not make it as a couple. This is a sweet romance with a happy ending.
Getting the chance to act with a big celeb like Red is a dream come true for Nurse Caleb. Finding out he's a great guy who seems to think the same about Caleb is a bonus. Having Caleb's nightmare ex show up in his hospital spells trouble. Can what Red and Caleb built stand the test of blackmail, coercion and greed?
I think Max Walker is getting better and better! This book had a great story with lovely characters, a very decent plot and a wonderfully satisfying ending. Looking forward to book 3!
