Mallory Crowe has lived in Michigan her whole life and has been in love with romance ever since she'd skip to the end of every novel, just to make sure the hero and heroine survived and ended up together. REVIEW: THE VENGEFUL THIEF is the fifth installment in Mallory Crowe's contemporary, adult STOLEN HEARTS romantic suspense series. This is security specialist Peter Slade, and veterinarian technician Liv Morgan's story line. THE VENGEFUL THIEF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Liv and Slade) THE VENGEFUL THIEF begins the next chapter and series arc in the author's STOLEN HEARTS romantic suspense series. Peter Slade was one of the 'bad guys' in the original installments. Forced 'servitude' came with threats against the people he loved but his release from service meant a greater threat back home, and Peter Slade found himself back where it all began but with more to lose than he could have ever imagined. Enter Olivia 'Liv' Morgan, Slade's son's 'second mother', and the woman with whom he would fall in love. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Liv and Slade, and the potential fall out when Slade's past targets everyone he loves in Laurie Falls.

Ten years earlier, Peter Slade left Laurie Falls in the hopes of protecting the people that he loved but leaving meant 'dying' to ensure there were no direct connections between him and the family he left behind. But the past has come back, looking for revenge, aiming to destroy the only family Peter has ever loved. Liv Morgan knows a thing or two about the 'bad boy' having escaped a relationship that was doomed to destroy her life. Finding a family to love in Laurie Falls meant a second chance that included helping to raise her best friend's nephew-a little boy who never knew his father but would never want for love. Meeting the man who she believes abandoned her best friend and son, Liv is unable to explain the palpable sexual attraction, an attraction that makes her a target in a game of vindictive revenge.

The relationship between Slade and Liv is one of immediate attraction but Liv's acceptance of Slade's ten year absence comes with trepidation, anger and heartbreak. Slade 'died' to protect his sister and his son but returning to Laurie Falls has placed a bigger target on the people he loves. Meeting Liv Morgan finds our hero looking towards a future-a future that will include his son, and a new prospect for a happily ever after. The lone $ex scene is passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Peter Slade's sister Melissa, his ten year old son Josh, as well as the return of Slade's partners in crime Tristan and Gage, and Scot Hart and Toni Murray (The Reluctant Thief #4). The requisite evil has many faces including small town mobster Tiger Thurrond whose power has infiltrated the local police.

THE VENGEFUL THIEF is a quick read; a story of family and friendship; betrayal and revenge; forgiveness and love. The premise is engaging and action packed; the characters are colorful, dynamic and real; the romance is quick to build towards a happily ever after.

Such a great book. I loved every minute of it!

This book is about Peter Slade, a man whose misdeeds put the safety of his family at risk. This included his sister and his young son. His wife had already been killed by accident when the gang was after Slade. They would never be safe as long as Slade was alive so he faked his death ten years ago.

Slade's son, who was almost eleven-years-old, had been involved in a kidnapping gone bad with the boy escaping. When Slade found this out he made his way back to their hometown to put an end to a gang of very bad men who served under an even worse leader who ran the town as well as the local police force including others outside of their area.

When Slade arrived in town he meets Liv at his family home. She is a young woman who had hit a low point in life. She had gone to the same school as Melissa, Slade's sister, and Melissa had offered Liv a room in her home free if she would help her raise the baby Slade left in her care.

This was such a good read and I felt it was a bit different than the first four books in this series. Mallory Crowe is a magical wordsmith and I have enjoyed every book she's written. I highly recommend this book as well as the series.

Vengeful Thief is another fantastic book in the Stolen Hearts Series. Peter Slade has been an intriguing figure since he first appeared in the series. It was nice to finally get insight into his past and learn what was really important to him. What led him to live the way he did.

I really enjoyed the way Josh handled the news of Slade's return. While the women were making such a fuss, Josh simply acknowledged it as no big deal. Kids really do handle things in that manner. Adults always worry about how kids will react and get upset over what may happen. Kids are resilient and, typically, pretty accepting.

I laughed while reading the scene where Slade and Liv meet. Definitely a unique and awkward introduction to each other. I loved the way she didn't take any sass from Slade and was always putting him in his place. They were a dynamic couple.

I felt the climactic scene was a little anticlimactic. IMO, it needed a little more 'oomph'.

If you like well-written books with realistic characters that keep you glued to the book, then I urge you to read The Vengeful Thief. It is awesome.

Okay but could have been better

Potential to have been better. Felt like a diluted thriller romance but with no real connection to each other. Stilted at times with no real explanation as to why or what was happening.

I received a complimentary copy of this title and voluntarily reviewed it.

I absolutely love “The Stolen Heart Series” from author Mallory Crowe. However, I must admit that this is my favorite book in the series - so far.

Peter Slade, the hero of this book, is a “bad guy” in the last one. In spite of that, I liked Slade, even then. Throughout the book, The Reluctant Thief, the author gives the reader many clues that he isn’t really as bad as we originally think. In fact, the author gives enough glimpses of Slade’s kindness and concern toward the main characters that I knew that he would make an interesting hero for his own book.

By the end of the last book, Slade is free to return back to his son and his old life. However, he does not, actually, return to his former life until he finds out that his son, Josh, has been kidnapped. Fortunately, thanks to Olivia “Liv” Morgan, one of Josh’s guardians (the other one is his sister), the boy was able to escape unharmed. At that point, Slade realizes that, in order to keep him safe, he needs to return home and clear up his old problems.

Slade is a very fascinating hero. Even though he still has a lot of the “bad guy” in his personality, the reader often sees him as a good brother, a good father and a caring person. In fact, Olivia is the perfect love interest for Slade. She is a strong, independent, honest and loving woman. All of this enables Liv to keep up with Slade’s old personality. Plus, these traits help bring out the goodness in Slade’s new personality so he can easily move back into his former life.

I highly recommend this book. However, even though most of the books in this series can be read out of order, I highly recommend that you read the previous book, The Reluctant Thief, first. You will surely enjoy this book better if you can compare the “old Slade” to the new “Peter Slade.”

This is my favorite series by Mallory Crowe, that's for sure!!

Another amazing book from Stolen Hearts series! Now we get to know better about the mysterious Peter Slade and his past and meet the girl who can bring him to his knees: Olivia!

Slade was more than a bad boy. He was a broken man, running from his past, trying to protect the ones he loved, leaving the ones he cared the most behind, even if that meant he should do the most unimaginable things for the worst people!
He wasn't a good man. Be he wasn't a bad one either. He was human. With mistakes, needing forgiveness and a fresh new start connected to his past.
Because no matter how many mistakes he made (and boy, did he make them), he was also loyal and willing to step up for those who love.

Olivia was involved in Slade's life even without knowing him. Being like a second mom to Josh, Slade's son, side by side with Melissa (Slade's sister), she did everything she needed to, and even more, to take care of Josh and love him! For all that mattered, she was his mother. And she was certainly nurturing, caring, loving, strong, brave even if fearful.

Liv and Slade were the perfect match!

"For right now, as long as possible, I don't want to ever move from this position. I never want to let you go, Liv."

And when you see the other members of his group, the old faces we love and the ones we are starting to love, it gets all much funnier and more interesting!

As I said, this is my favorite series by Mallory Crowe, and this is definitely my favorite book by her!!

As with all of the other books out of Mallory Crowe's stable, The Vengeful Thief is exciting and well written. When Slade's son is threatened, he loses his cool demeanour as he storms back to the town he vowed never to return to. It quickly becomes clear that old enemies are still trying to pull his strings and command him to dance to their tune. However, over the years Slade has changed and he now belongs to an eclectic group of operatives who are bound together by loyalty and trust. His initial meeting with Liv has to go in the record books as one of the most unusual ever, but he nevertheless sees in her the spirit of a fighter who will protect those she loves. As the team comes together once again to take care of business, old friends work together to resolve the crisis and bring about a well thought out conclusion. The story is as exciting, with wit and unexpected events, as Ms Crowe's previous books. I love both Slade and Liv and while their attraction for one another is instant, they following the path of the mating dance without being smutty or crude. Whilst this book is part of a series and many of the characters in this book have appeared before, it is nevertheless a standalone and has a most satisfactory ending. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This series really has stolen my heart. I am addicted! This is the first book in the series that has gone past the Murray family and their revenge on the man who killed their mother. It has been really interesting getting to learn more about the strong, hot men who you originally thought to be the bad guys because they worked for that man. Now seeing how they operate under Scott Hart and Toni Murray's new protection group, we can see them be the good guys.

For The Vengeful Thief, we get to learn more about Slade and his past. He had a son and when he hears that he was almost kidnapped, Slade is quick to return to the life he thought he would never see again. His son has been raised by his aunt and her best friend Liv. Liv and Slade have a very interesting first meeting (hehe), but as it becomes apparent none of them are safe as Slade's past is coming back with a vengeance, he'll have to call in reinforcements. (YAY Tristan! Can't wait to learn more about him in the next book!) This bad past comes in the form of a despicable man who caused the death of his wife, his son's mother. And once Liv becomes important to Slade too, he can't risk the life of a second woman he loves.

It was hot, steamy and action packed! I highly recommend this book, series and author.

Mallory Crowe has done it again! The Vengeful Thief is an action packed read! Picking up where The Reluctant left off, Slade is forced to face his past and his son. Slade has been presumed dead for ten years - all of his son's life. He "died" to protect his son but now the threat is back. Slade returns to his home town but the welcome isn't warm. He's confronted not only by his sister, Melissa and his former boss, Tiger but by Liv who has stood by Melissa and help raise his son. The sparks fly between Liv and Slade. But Slade is there to take down Tiger. Between Liv putting him in his place and his attraction to her, can he focus on his goal especially when Liv ends up in the cross fire? With back up from Gage, Hunter, Tristan, Toni and Scott, Slade wages a war to save his son and get back Liv.
I love Slade! This book reveals so many sides to him. He's the type of guy I would want on my side in a fight. Looking so forward to book six, The Vengeful Thief. If you haven't started reading "The Stolen Hearts" series, I strongly urge you to. You won't be disappointed!
I received this ARC for an honest review.

Each book in the Stolen Hearts series has gotten better because each Hero seems to have a tougher outer shell for their respective heroine to break through! We met Slade in the last book when he was a major henchman for white collar crime boss, Sterling. He and his team now work for Scott Hart and Toni Murray (the couple from The Reluctant Thief) working secret security projects.

In this story, we learn Slade had to abandon his infant son, Josh, with his sister, after his wife is killed by his mob boss, in an accident meant for him. Our heroine, Liv, moves in with her best friend, Melissa, Slade's sister to help her raise the baby. When Slade returns to protect his family, after everyone thought he was dead, he's met with a lot of skepticism from Melissa and Liv, who want to protect Josh from a an "undead" father and his dangerous lifestyle.

I loved the push and pull dynamic between Slade and Liv as they tried to compartmentalize their feelings for each other by putting Josh's safety and well being first. Through it all Slade has to figure out if and how he can fit into his son's life, while Liv realizes she may no longer play a role in Josh's life now that his real parent is there...so many emotions our Hero and heroine have to figure out to reach their HEA.

This is Vengeful Thief, book 5 of the Stolen Hearts series, written by Mallory Crowe. Mallory is one of my favorite authors. When I get a new book of hers, you can most likely bet that I will dive into it right away. Read any of her books and she will quickly become important to you as well. This series is partially about a lot of different people that were forced, by different means, to do things that were immoral or illegal. In this book we get to spend more time with Peter Slade. His situation has recently changed and he will be forced to come out of hiding. He has been presumed dead for the last ten years but that will no longer be beneficial for his family members. What this change will mean to the rest of his family is for me to know, and you to find out.. lol You know you want to....just go on and dive in. I promise that Mallory Crowe will succeed in forcing your mind to live in her book world and entertain you the whole time. I received an advance readers copy and chose voluntarily to leave this review.

I absolutely love this series and can 't get enough of them .
The Vengeful Thief is book five in this series The Stolen Hearts , is fast paced and totally action packed with a little touch of "romance" because you'll sit on the edge of your seat in anticipation as Liv Morgan & Peter Slade start falling in love. Sweet Liv really stole my heart right from the start as adoptive mom for little Josh .What she wouldn 't do for this kiddo . I was glad to see another side of Slade's character and finally we get a chance to know him so much better .
What I especially loved in this story and in all Mallory"s other books is the wonderful subtle build up of the suspense till the end .
To me this is so far Mallory's best book in these series of which I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy .These books are really worth the read but need by preference to be read in order . Thanks Mallory for this beautiful written and thrilling story ,can 't hardly wait for the next one to come .......

I received this book willingly from the author through Booksprout.

I loved reading the continuation of the Stolen Hearts story. Peter Slade is a bad guy, at least that is what he thought when he faked his own death 11 years ago. He thought he was doing the right thing and protecting his sister and his son. He never planned on getting back in touch with anyone from his hometown, as long as he was dead they were safe.

Liv Morgan had come back home to the small town and ended up moving in with her college friend Melissa. Melissa had just been made guardian of her nephew after her brother Peter passed away and the child's mother was killed in a car accident.

Karma has a way of catching up with you, Peter's hiding had come to an end. His boss passed away and somehow that set off some information to the wrong people. These people then tried to kidnap Peter's son. He had to come back from the dead to save the ones he loved.

The sparks in this book, the story line, the characters, all great!

'm really enjoying The Stolen Hearts Series and this one is, I think, one of the best so far in a very good set. I loved seeing a different side to Slade and realising what he gave up to keep his family safe. But now things have changed and he's back but to stop his now 10 year old son Josh from being kidnapped or harmed after a failed kidnap attempt.

Liv, who is a great character, is the best friend of his sister Melissa and has acted as an adoptive mother to Josh along with Melissa and when she and Slade get together I personally wanted them to be together for ever she was perfect for him. The plot is exciting and fast moving and how Slade deals with the threat to his family and his growing attraction to Liv, is very well done I really enjoyed it. I would have liked a little more of Josh though but that's just me.

I do think these books need to be read in order but you could read as a standalone but you wouldn't get quite as much from it.

Such a get book. I have yet to be disappointed by Mallory’s Books. We get get drama with some romance, great blend. Slade has been basically in hiding living his as a shadow of himself. Even though he left his son in the care of his sister alone, Liv has basically been raising his son. Her love for home runs deep. When Josh almost gets kidnapped Slade returns to help, finally fighting his ghost. Well I don’t want to give away more than I should, this is a drama mystery after all. Slade and Liv both love Josh so they go on to protect him at all costs and in that process, well you can put those pieces together yourself I hope. I read this book voluntarily for an honest review. It’s part of a series but can be read alone. Always nice to hear about old characters. No cliffhanger, no cheating and a HEA. Enjoy!

This is one of my favorites. Live is strong and even though she isn’t blood related to Josh that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been just like another mom to him. Melissa takes on guardianship of Josh her brothers son when he is gone and presumed dead. Liv was down on her luck and best friend with her and moves in to help raise him. That is until Slade shows up and wants Josh back after an attempt to kidnap him. The story just takes off from there. Liv knows his kind and been there and done that. She could of gotten killed saving Josh and will fight to keep him safe. This is a romance full of high energy stock full of some bad boys that take charge and the job done. I absolutely love this book and can’t wait for the next book in this series

WOW - I was asked to read "The Vengeful Thief (Stolen Hearts #5) and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it!!! BUT -- Now I have to go back and read the 1st 4 books of the series - but, if they are anything like this one, that will not be a problem.

Slade's sister Melissa and her friend Olivia (Liv) are taking care of raising Josh - Slade's deceased wife and his son. When Slade finds out that someone tried to kidnap his 10 year old son -- he heads back to his hometown to make sure his son and his sister are OK. I'm not going to tell you anymore about what happens, because it is always better to not write spoilers and to let you experience the story for yourself. And, believe me, it is well worth reading!!!

3.5 stars. The Vengeful Thief is the fifth book in the Stolen Hearts series. This can be read as a standalone with a HEA, but all of the books build on the main storyline so I encourage you to read these books in order. It is a quick read so it's perfect for an afternoon curled up somewhere comfy. There is some violence and hot steamy sex scenes so 18+.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. The storyline is predictable but this book is still worth reading. I do want to find out more about this group and will continue to read the rest of the series.

I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.

What a great addition to the Stolen Hearts series, this is Peter Slade's story and let's be honest who's not had fantasies about this bad boy. Mallory gives an in depth background story for Slade and he finally gets to go home and meet his son. There he meets Liv who has been helping to bring up his son with his sister Melissa. After recent developments an attempted kidnapping, town overrun by a big bully thug, shoutouts and cars blowing up, Slade and his family from Hart Enterprises get busy. Will Liv and Slade get through it all in one piece and will their love survive or die. Read it and find out it's well worth it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC and I can't wait for Tristan's story next, but feel there's a Melissa bad boy story in there just waiting to break out soon.

This is the fifth book in the "Stolen Hearts" romantic suspense series. This is a standalone, but I suggest reading the others in the series for the backstory and enjoyment. This book is about Slade & Liv. We met Slade in the last book and we find out what drives him along with his character. Liv is basically a nanny or second mother to his child but a strong and courageous woman. I'm a little disappointed with the novella length of this book as I prefer reading longer stories; however, Mallory gives us enough to make this work. Overall, I liked this and am looking forward to the next in the series. I received an advance copy from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Such a great read.. This is my first read by Mallory and it was great! While this is book 5 in the series it can totally be read as a standalone.

Peter Slade has been away from his town and his family for 10 years but when his family is threatened he returns to town with vengeance. Little did he know part of his family is now the beautiful Liv who has been helping his sister raise his son for the last 10 years. When not only his family but Liv are put in danger, how far will Slade go to protect them?

Look forward to reading the other books in this series and then next one coming out in January

I wasn’t sure I was going to like Slade. I know he worked for Sterling and just knowing he’d abandoned his sister and his own son didn’t sit right with me. As we get to know more about him, I found him to be a more sympathetic character, but there were still things I had trouble forgiving. I loved Liz. She’s smart, funny and gives as good as she gets. Their first meeting is embarrassing. I must admit that if I was Liz, I would find it a lot harder to put it behind me. As always, there’s a lot of build-up to the main event along with some twists and turns we just didn’t see coming. I really enjoyed seeing Scott and Toni again and look forward to Tristan’s story.

ARC for honest review with no compensation

Vengeful Thief is the 5th book in the Stolen Heart series by Mallory Crowe and can she deliver!

Peter Slade was in the Reluctant Thief and seemed like a bad guy but underneath it all you could see he wasn’t as bad as everyone thought. In this book he finds out his son has been kidnapped but somehow he escaped now Slade is determined to keep his son safe and clean up his old messes. While doing all of this he finds Olivia to be a perfect match for him. Can Liv help to bring Slade back into his son’s life and find their HEA???

Lots of action, suspense, seeing old friends and finding new ones.....

I've enjoyed all of Mallory's books so far. This one is right in line with the others. Fast paced HEA. The ending was a bit quick and we don't see the town's reactions to everything going on or the legal side of actions. It fairly unilaterally follows the main characters without much mention of the world outside of them, but that's pretty much Mal's signature that I've come to notice. I thought Scott was a little less boy scout than usual. It was a fun quick read. I'm awaiting to see all the other characters HEAs. Like Toni said, this falling in love thing seems to be contagious.

I've really enjoyed the whole 'Stolen Hearts' series & this addition was no exception.

Slade was one of 'Sterling's' henchmen in book 4 but is now set to work for Toni & Scott in their Security Firm.

He has to return to where he grew up, lost his wife & gave up his baby boy after he finds out an old foe has tried to kidnap his now 10 year old son!! Slade's sister Melissa has raised Josh along with her best friend Liv.
Everyone thinks Slade is dead, they had to for their own protection. So when he turns up in Liv's bedroom in the night, expecting to find his sister, things are immediately awkward & so is the situation he finds her in 😂 He's very attracted to her, she's very hot!!

Slade & Co need to deal with the threat to his family & fast, it's going to get loud & bloody!!!

This book is was fun, tense at times, sexy, emotional & face-paced. The woman were full of snark, which I love & they definitely don't just roll over for the Alpha male's in front of them!!

I gave four stars as the ending felt a little rushed & it could have had more content regarding his relationship with his son etc but that's just a preference of mine. It's a fab read!!!

Another brill addition to this series!!

Fun, Fast and Furious.
The series continues with secondary characters from the previous book. Peter Slade abandoned his family ten years earlier in order to protect them but with the death of his former boss, they are no longer safe and Slade must return to his hometown to face and neutralise his enemy. He doesn’t expect to fall for his sister’s friend Liv.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

Firstly, let me say, I would like to give this book a 4.5 rating. This was a change to the Murray sisters. Even though they all intertwine this was fresh and a change. Happy to read how Slade and his group are now too going to have their own stories. Looking forward to the next instalment. As per usual, will not spoil and describe. All books have a description for one to make their decision. My view is whether it is a good read or need to shelve. Here, it was a good read. Give the series a chance it will make you laugh and enjoy.

Return from the dead

Slade has been dead for 10 years while his sister and her friend raised his son. Then someone tried to kidnap his son and he had to come back to protect him. He meets Liz and is immediately attracted but he's just the father who abandoned his son and his sister, the two people who have become her family. And now they're in danger because of him. She can't want or trust him.

This is another great book in this series with the right mix of danger, love and righteous revenge.

This is the fifth book in the "Stolen Hearts" romantic suspense series. Although every novel in the series is a standalone, it's better to read them in order for the backstory and familiarity with prior events. This book is about Slade & Liv. The storyline is suspenseful and exciting. The characters well developed and believable, even the thugs. This is a great book, probably the best in the series.
