In this groundbreaking work, Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Finkel introduces us to Kabbalah, the esoteric body of knowledge that touches upon the very core of existance. Absorbing biographical sketches of the Kabbalistic masters are followed by carefully selected excerpts from their works. For layman and scholar alike, this is an essential text for anyone who wishes to gain insight into the world of Jewish mysticism.
good primer. i'll never remember all the names, but 3/4 the way through, i have a deepening appreciation for Kabbalah and a much better general understanding. thinking i'd like to get into the Zohar a bit... the author doesn't get his hands dirty with opinion and speculation, and it's kind a good thing here. he presents a bit of biographical information and then a sampling of the work of dozens of Kabbalistic masters. i'd recommend it. but not if i had to pay the price listed on the back of my volume. it came to me through a friend. the price tag is over $100. good read, though.
