About the author

Barrington Barber originally worked in advertising and television as designer and art director. Then taught at Ealing Art School. Then practiced as a freelance designer, illustrator, painter at Augustine Studios. He was Head of Art at St James’s Independent Schools. Author and illustrator of Fundamentals of Drawing and about 20 other books for Arcturus Publishing. Now paints, draws and writes about art.

This book was hard, and probably for the very serious aspiring artist. However I set myself up a challenge to draw all the picture in the book rather than just dreaming about it. That very difficult but keeping with the challenge, I started to see things in a new way.

However I later discovered that Barrington Barber has a number of books that use the same images. Also due to the glossy quality of the paper, I wasn't about to see the markings on some sketches, but I l guess that is a reason for me to visit galleries. Overall, I learnt a lot, though at times it was repetitive and boring. Below are a selection of my better drawings.
