In de nadagen van de Tweede Wereldoorlog wordt in Duitsland een jonge SS’er, Armin Immendorf, aangesteld als verloskundige in een ziekenhuis van Lebensborn. Dit nationaalsocialistische project heeft tot doel de geboortecijfers te verhogen en een zuiver Arisch ras te scheppen. Armin ontfermt zich over het pasgeboren kind van een jonge, in het kraambed gestorven vrouw. Het kind, een zoon, krijgt de naam van zijn nieuwe vader: Armin.
