Do you yearn for a day at the beach where your mind and soul can wander away from life’s troubles? Do you gaze up at the sun or the nighttime stars and wonder if God is really on your side? Do you long to hear his quiet voice in the roll of a gentle wave? In A Day at the Beach , brothers Todd and Jedd Hafer don’t have the answers to all of life’s troubles, but they’ll help you see that the God who built the universe also wants to help you build a great life. Let these encouraging words bring a ray of warm sunshine to your doorstep as Todd and Jedd offer their joy-filled perspectives on life and faith. So take a deep breath, unplug from life’s daily grind, and follow the call of your heart to Jesus, the ultimate source of life.
One of the best places I love to go to gain some peace and perspective is the beach. There is something calming, mesmerizing, and relaxing watching the waves splash along the sand, the saltiness of the breeze and laughter of children. Its a place where we can let go of the stress and just let go of our daily worries. Sadly many people are landlocked and few have actually visited a real beach so these experiences are not commonly shared but often times have lakes or rivers they visit. The experience is relatively the same.
Jedd and Todd Hafer have written a wonderful devotional called A Day at the Beach with daily inspirations to help you relax, reflect and renew yourself. Each devotional carries with it a Bible verse and how we can simply change our attitudes to help reflect the peace that God can provide. So many of the best things in life are willing to wait for us. Perhaps this is God's way of telling us to embrace the anticipation rather than fight it. To surf with the tide rather than swim against it. To let the journey unfold on its own schedule so it can be savored. Good advice for the beach to road trips and for life itself. You can refresh your soul and encounter God even if there isn't an ocean in the picture.
This devotional is filled with a collection of personal accounts, intriguing beach trivia, and even a fable or two. It is geared to help your reading to be as refreshing as a day at the beach, offering soothing waters for your mind and sunshine for your soul. There are devotionals reminding us about the importance of being unplugged, which seems to be common place, that we simply forget about the things and people around us because we are caught up in social media, texting and our smart phones. People seem to use the phrase that they are simply, "too busy to find time to spend with God," but the truth is if we simply set our phones to vibrate, we can let go and find quality time in our days to get things done and enjoy those around us more and spend time with God in our devotionals or Bible reading. These are short and sweet but pack a lot of things to consider and hopefully give the reader a break for all the things that can drive us crazy.
I received A Day at the Beach by Jedd and Todd Hafer compliments of Tyndale House Publishers. Some of the topics include, Making the Ordinary Extraordinary, Nothing Ever Happens on "Someday," Ocean Baptism, A Sail With Attitude, The Throwaway Ritual, Uses for Sand, Thanks for Nothing and so many more. There are 70 devotions tucked inside a beautiful orange soft cover that is so cool to tuck away into your purse or beach bag. This would make the perfect graduation gift or even something to use to have a short Bible devotion the next time you are at the beach or lake. The topics are perfect for discussion to utilize ways to make our days a bit more stress-free and relaxing. I easily give this a 5 out of 5 stars and now have to find a way to get it back from my 18-year-old daughter who took it to a beach birthday party for her Christian friends.
A Day at the Beach delivers on being a peaceful, easy, kind of feeling book. Todd and Jedd Hafer offer a joy-filled perspective on life and faith. And from what I can tell about what the Publisher, Tyndale, says about the book and the brothers, “[They] don’t have the answers to all of life’s troubles; [they] help you see that the God who built the universe also wants to help you build a great life.”
I can and will say this: the brothers offer a good deal of promise on the book. It delivers on being a devotional, which tells you how to have God’s peace; to relax and find rest for your weary soul. Can you truly rest and relax at the beach? Of course. Can you enjoy God’s creation and give Him thanks for all of it? Sincerely! The book offers a way to relax, reflect and renew yourself. At the same time I can say the same thing about God’s word, the Bible. They offer sound bites in the form of snippets of stories to show how to enter God’s rest.

As you're packing flip flops, sunscreen, and that floppy hat, don't forget to throw in a good book - like this one! Hailed as a devotional, this is really more of a book of everyday stories that led to extraordinary moments in life. (Not like "everyone will remember this" extraordinary, but like "this is a peak experience that I'll look back on fondly" extraordinary.) The stories are short, and they will help you to remember to find joy in the small moments. Each page has a different message and a Bible verse. They're the perfect length for reading a couple, and then laying back in your dark glasses to ponder the messages as you drift off to sleep against a backdrop of continuous waves....

My Review:
Sitting in the sun on sand with your toes digging down into it and then to take a a quick dip in the water. Ahhhh....the beach--heavenly! Well now you can read some devotions that are based on all things beachy. In a Day at the Beach you get to read all about God and His goodness while reminding yourself of all the beach sites and sounds. Along with all the great food and fun!
Each days devotion is based on scripture and on a short devo for the day along with some great beach commentary to get your day off to a fantastic start! Great devotional that is short and sweet with just enough to get you through an awesome beach vacation.
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own.
The Hafer brothers love to go to the beach. They see the beach as a place where people relax and get away from troubles. They have written these devotions to help readers experience renewal and relaxation.
They cover many topics in their devotions, from picking up litter to how Lincoln handled anger to people the Hafers have met on the beach. Some of the devotions are informative, giving some interesting facts about beaches or what is on them. The devotions are generally encouraging, relating a biblical truth. They are not probing nor demanding much of a response from the reader. I did not find them very deep nor inspiring.
I recommend this book to those looking for interesting but undemanding devotions. You'll learn about beaches and receive some biblical encouragement too.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Sometimes we just want to get away and relax. To just have a few moments of refreshment and mental peace. Jedd and Todd Hafer have had these moments too. They wanted to get away; to go to the beach.
In their small devotional, A Day at the Beach, the Hafers write quick thoughts to give the reader a chance to reflect, ponder, and meditate on God; on His peace and His love. They want they readers to take those "day at the beach" moments to draw closer to God and not get weighed down by the grind of life.
I found this small book an easy read to challenge my thoughts. While I tend to read more heavier devotionals (My Utmost for His Highest and The Valley of Vision to name two) sometimes the simplicity of a devotional is needed. This book does just that; power in simplicity.

I recently took a vacation to the Outer Banks, so I actually was reading this devotional while I was at the beach.
I have read a lot of devotionals, and have reviewed several of them. This one is unique since it focuses so much on the beach. I admit I wondered how the authors could write even a small devotional this size about the beach, but they managed to do it.
Each devotional ends with a Bible verse, and though this isn't a big book and the devotionals in it are not very long, they are very well done, encouraging, and worth reading. Maybe I am biased a bit since I love the beach so much, but this is an excellent little devotional, and one does not have to be at the beach to enjoy the book and be helped spiritually by it.

What a perfect way to start each day and/or end each day - read one of these inspirational segments. These are reminders that God is full of peace and ready to give it to you, even when life seems very crazy.
As many of you know the beach has always been my go-to place - when I need to hear God, when I need peace and when I am happy and want to celebrate! So always at the beach is a good place for me!! When I can't be there these devotionals give me a little feeling of being there. This feels like one of those devotionals that I could reread.
This would also be a wonderful gift to someone you know who could use this peacefulness in their days.
A Day at the Beach: Devotions to Help You Relax, Reflect, and Renew by Jedd Hafer and Todd Hafer Published April 1st 2017 by Tyndale House Publishers. I found this to be an enjoyment to read! This is a one page daily devotional that is thought to help you discover a better life. While this book is a devotional, I found that many of the stories are about everyday people that share a life lesson. I really like that there is a bible verse for each day that helps to relate to the story. This would be a perfect gift for anyone.
This a beautiful non-dated devotional book. It's light and airy with a great message from the authors. It does remind you of a special day at the beach with your loved ones because the brothers make you feel like you are a part of the family as they bring you along with their thoughts on God and his loving message.
I really enjoyed the daily inspirations of this book and how it has helped me through some tough times to remain positive and leave it to faith. I enjoyed the quotes and stories.
What a delight to read a one page daily thought to help you discover a better life. While the book is a devotional, many of the stories are stories of every day people that share a life lesson. There is also a bible verse for each day. Perfect gift for young and old, especially for those who enjoy the beach.
