This book is extremely informative and I found many books in the Bibliographies and last section to read more on the subjects discussed.

Three books in one. Practice, Bible and History. History section was FANTASTIC! Best summary I've ever read. Familiar with much of the history, but never found it strung along in a nice and interwoven sequence. Don't get caught up on the title. If you have any interest, even if you have an overall philosophical bias, you'll enjoy the topics, Ancient Mesopotamia, Isis, Osiris, the Hebrews, the Palestinian Kingdom, the Magi, Hermes Trismegistus, Thoth, Pythagoras, Druids, Jewish Sects, Gnostics, Jesus of Nazareth, Paul of Tarsus, the Templars, the Sabbat, Kabbala, Alchemy, Illuminati, Masons, Theosophy, Rosicrucianism, and much more.
