A sequel is a tricky thing; Stakes must be raised, the story must continue, but at the same time it has to offer something new for its audience. Y2K manages to do just that. We get to see our team of heroes take on a new threat, meet new allies, and the series literally rockets off into a new level of adventure.
We get to deep dive into Yuki and her relationships as the character deals with her role as protector of Narai/THE WORLD. The threats here are unique and a perfect escalation of what we saw Houston was up to previously.
Y2K continues the break neck pacing that made the original so easy to pick up and read, and it builds upon the previous globetrotting by allowing us to fill in just a little more of that map. It’s a unique world and ride to see Yuki as she began in the original Daikaiju Yuki and where she arrives here.
If you love Kaiju or giant monster movies of course you’ll dig this, but if you have ANY love for fantasy/scifi you ought to check out this and the original. I promise you, it’s not going to be a world you’ve encountered before! Familiarities? Sure, but never combined in this way, and trust me, the rabbit hole gets deeper from cover to cover!

As the adventures of the Pantheon continue there is plenty of exciting action, but this is also a tale of friendship and romance. I was completely surprised and amazed! Yuki, Midori and the other characters are so well written and their story is an ageless one. I laughed, cried, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Overall it's fine, but I really can't get over how the monster fight is resolved where the human brand new to the alien kaiju is a vastly better fit for the creature than the alien from its homeworld and unlocks vastly more power than the monster had before. Also Midori's personality just flips into this... like weird parody of old 'girl power 'tude' being thrown around...? It's really weird there.
The build up is fine even if the pantheon comes off incompetent, they are supposed to be outmatched by the space monsters, and the monster action works well enough there.

Picking up several months after the first novel ends, Yuki finds herself dealing with a new Kaiju, a mysterious signal, and trying to maintain a relationship with the Priestess Midori. What unfolds in this sequel are intense scenes of action against powerful invaders intent on destroying all life on the planet. If you enjoyed the first novel, you'll enjoy the next installment of the adventures of Daikaiju Yuki.
