In the fourth book in the CatStronauts graphic novel series, the stalwart Cat-Stro-Bot is stranded, and the CatStronauts have to stage an off the books robot rescue!
Cat-Stro-Bot has been with the CatStronauts through it all. But now he's stranded on Jupiter's coldest moon after a mission gone wrong--and his best friend/creator Blanket isn't about to leave him behind. When CATSUP refuses Blanket's rescue mission request, he creates robo-stand-ins for the team so they can sneak off into space. Soon, the rest of the CatStronauts, Major Meowser, Pom Pom and Waffles, are off on their longest journey ever with experimental new technology. The robot rescue is afoot! In this full-color graphic novel, author/illustrator Drew Brockington takes the CatStronauts to new heights, adding in mounds of robot glitches, wonky cover-ups, and fish jokes by the ton!
This graphic novel is utterly adorable. Cats who are astronauts? Positive stories showing positive change and helping each other? Adorable illustrations? Sold. I absolutely adored this graphic novel and now I need the first three in my hands ASAP. There's also a fair bit of science in there that isn't fiction, so bonus! And a Star Trek quote!
This book seems to be geared more towards kids but as an adult I absolutely love it. It's such a sweet book that you can get a few life lessons out of but also being a super fun read.
What I love about this series is how they fold real science (or as close as you can theoretically get) into the adventures of characters with names like Blanket and Waffles.
Sadly, my last Catstronauts. It was a fun series, but it gets a bit samey + there are some dumb things that just don't make sense. In this one the mission was fun, and I loved that the Catstronauts went that far to help someone out. I loved the little bits in between with that floating item (always curious what is floating in space in each volume). Loved the art. Loved the space stuff. The ending was fab. But sorry, how did no one at CATSUP notice the fake crew? I mean, at one point they have been awake for days. They talk in a weird, more robotic way. They don't eat/drink. Then when water gets sprayed over them they spark. Then they act erratically. It just didn't make sense. Plus, the message by Bianca should have been clear... but no. Then again, in the previous book someone acted way out of character and went back to Earth only to conveniently come back to save the day with a ship only found on Earth.
GUESS WHAT, GUYS! Yup, new CatStronauts out today, and this time I pre-ordered it, booyah!
When Blanket's BFF Cat-Stro-Bot runs into trouble on Europa (please let there be a 2010: Odyssey Two cross-over next volume!!!), the CatStronauts have to figure out how to help their friend, and naturally chaos ensues! I love the solution they come up with, and love how everything turns out in the end--heartbreak and joy in equal measures...
I dunno, this series is so ridiculous, and ridiculous cute, and full of cat puns and just wonderful in so many ways I can't help myself. It's kind of my favorite series these days. That is all.
Another adorable installment in the CatStronauts series. This one reminded me of the Martian as the CatStronat team decides to go rogue and rescue one of their own. They steal a ship and go on a month's long journey to rescue their good friend Cat-Stro-Bot, who is trapped in ice. A pretty dramatic ending for a kid's book (which made me love it even more honestly) wraps the whole space pirates chapter for the CatStronauts pretty nicely. This book will teach your kids to buck authority and never leave a man behind!
This was another fun installment in the series. I loved the Star Trek reference (looking up the exact quote from Wrath of Khan, it maybe isn't exactly the same haha but I definitely thought of Star Trek while reading this book so I'm going to count it anyway). The robot clones were a little silly but perfect for a graphic novel for beginning readers. I'm officially a Catstronauts fan!
What was the story about? Cat-stro-bot got stuck under the big drill. The catstonauts borrowed Gemilli's rocket to resuc cat-stro-bot but it was too broken! Blanket made a new one when they got home.
Who were the characters? Maisym Waffles, Blanket, Pom Pom, Cat-stro-bot, Major, Gemilli
What did you like about the book? When they had a party at the end. The microorganisms that looked like kittens. When the catstronaut robots broke the satellite.
Oh my gosh I am in love with this Series....it is so good....This Series is so hilarious - the cats are so funny. There are 5 Books - I call them Mangas - in this Series. I am going to read them and I am also going to buy the Mangas in this Series so I can keep them and re-read them later on. I just love this Series.
The CatStronauts are four feline who work for the American space program Catsup. Blanket is the robotics expert of the team and he is devastated when his latest invention, the Cat-stro-bot is damaged during a mission to Europa.
Blanket’s superiors refuse to allow him to rescue the robot. So with his friends Pom Pom, Waffles and Major Meowser, Blanket steals a ship to safe Cat-stro-bot.
It will take six months to travel to Jupiter and back. Surely, someone will notice that the CatStronauts are missing! So the team create android duplicates to fill in for them in their absence. Nothing can go wrong with this brilliant plan, right???
Robot Rescue was rather entertaining. The characters were quite funny. The jokes weren't so bad. In fact, some were rather smart instead of silly.
Speaking of smart, the author/ illustrator Drew Brockington did a very good job at getting a lot of the details about space travel right. The space ships used would be rather slow getting to their destination as opposed to the warp speeds used in Star Wars and other sci-fi properties. Rations would be needed for such a long trip. Brockington even added Russian cosmo-cats into the mix.
Even though this story stars a bunch of kitties, there's still a lot of cool science stuff to be learned here.
The story itself was pretty good. The plot was actually quite unpredictable until almost the very end. Things also get a little sad, so you might wanna have some tissues handy. But above all, there's a lot of shenanigans in this graphic novel.
Yes, the CatStronauts steal a spaceship, but it was for a good cause. And yes, the Android's cause a ton of trouble, but it wasn't out of malice but comedic effect. But hey, children's lit is full of characters getting into mischief AND punished for it! Will the CatStronauts get their just desserts? You'll have to read Robot Rescue to find out for yourself.
When something goes wrong on Cat-Stro-Bot's mission on Europa and it is stranded, Blanket is determined to get his creation and friend back. And if CATSUP won't send a mission, well then, he'll find another way to help his robot.
Not my favorite of the CatStronaut books. This one will give families or classrooms a chance to discuss whether or not Waffles and the other CatStronauts were right in "borrowing" a rocket to go save the robot and whether ends justify means. Still enough cuteness and humor that it was a pleasant read even if it does bring up some tricky ethical situations. And it isn't bad to think about tricky ethical situations and figure out what you really believe.
Notes on content: No language issues or sexual content. Some perilous situations but everyone ends up ok.
When an accident leaves Cat-Stro-Bot behind the leaders decide it isn't worth the money and time to try to get him back. But his creator and friend Blanket can't abide by that decision. He takes matters into his own hands and the other CatStronauts join in to rescue their friend going on a secret mission. They steal things, break a lot of rules and do everything they shouldn't realizing they may be fired for this. To make it less apparent that they are missing from mission control the CatStronauts built replacements for themselves. Those robots can perform all the jobs necessary but they sort of go overboard in doing so. And they don't have the social skills humans have which makes the other CatStronauts suspicious. Will the CatStronauts save Cat-Stro-Bot?
And so I picked up Robot Rescue which is the 4th book in the series and revolves around a secret mission to rescue their friend Cat-Stro-Bot after he is stranded on a planet during a mission that went horribly awry. As they are not authorized to actually be on this mission, they have to leave replacements back on earth to fool their superiors into thinking they never left...and what better solution than building lookalike robots?! For the kids (or adults with childlike wonder) that like quick, funny graphic novels and/or cats and space this is the perfect series. For myself, this is the best "book filler" I've come across in ages to help to combat my book fatigue.
Summary: The elite CatStronauts team is making great strides in their research, but when an accident strands the lovable Cat-Stro-Bot millions of miles from home, his creator, Blanket, is ready to do anything to rescue him. So the only situation is an off-the-books trip that will take the squad of CatSTronauts farther into space than ever before, to Jupiter's frozen moon, Europa! After all, you can't just build another friend when your buddy is in trouble. And while the cats are away, their team of robot-replacements will play! -- inside book jacket
Well, the CatStronauts go a bit rogue in this latest installment in order to rescue Cat-Stro-Bot after he is stranded on the surface of Europa, a planet that is even further away from Earth than Mars. This includes sneaking aboard a supply shuttle, leaving super productive but naughty replica robot clones at CATSUP headquarters, and pirating the CosmoCats prototype ion drive interstellar spaceship.
ALL of the cat humor! This series is seriously the cutest, and yet also pretty serious. The balance of the two is perfect.
Cat-stro-bot is lost on one of Jupiter's moons. But when Mission Control says it's too expensive to rescue him, there is only one way for the Catstronauts to get him back ... by sneaking out!
Space pirates, impersonator robots, best friend sacrifices for each other and science, and a happy ending!

Ah finally caught up on the series. This time around the Catstronauts sneak out to find their robot stuck on Europa. Chaos and adventure ensues with their robot doppelgangers and of course will Waffles make it through without eating 63 cans of tuna?1?1 Ha ha... great book, story and series. Loved every minute of it!
My son read this to me using different voices for each cat character, while on a road trip. The best part was having the president cat voiced like Trump which made that character all more ridiculous. And the cat in charge of mission control voiced like Obama..gave him plenty of gravitas. This is a fun graphic novel and I’m glad his school library carried it.
Love the science and advanced vocabulary mixed into fun illustrations and cute story. Not my personal favorite, but 7yo loved it and asked to borrow more from the library. Great book for practicing inflection. Every time I stopped reading to rest my voice, she took over and gave the characters fun voices.
This book is amazing. I love that they used cats because cats are my favorite animal. I have 4 cats and I love them. CAT STRO BOT he is super cool its sad when he dies though because blanket loves him. I love all the characters my favorite character is blanket he looks just like my cat. This book is super cool and I really recommend it.
Do you like cats? Do you like adventure? Do you like science fiction? Do you like tales of friendship? Do you like robots? Do you like stories where nerdy scientists work together to do something everyone else says can't be done? Then this is the book for you! A fun read that will have you invested in what happens to the characters and rooting for them to finish their mission.
Another adorable instalment of the CatStronauts this time the team goes rogue as they travel to Europa to rescue their friend Cat-Stro-Bot. What could possibly go wrong!?! Cannot wait for another instalment as these have all just been so fun!!
This is a very cute book that is a graphic novel. I rate this 5 stars because of the pictures quality and the story line. The story line attracted me into the story and it had some funny parts or some sad parts (Not really that sad).
This series was a lot of fun and a big hit with my nieces and, particularly, my nephew who has quite a love of all things science and astronomy. If you have any budding young astronauts in the family--or cat lovers (or both)--definitely a series to pay attention to.
