More than 100 gorgeous photos showcase dolphins around the world in this memorable book for fans of these charismatic cetaceans!
"Dolphins!" was an engaging and informative look at dolphins around the world. I learned a lot and enjoyed the process. The book had a slight tendency to talk down to its readers but for the most part it was respectful of its audience. Colorful pictures combined with a relaxed but informative text made for an interesting book. The author provides both definition and pronunciation of specialized vocabulary or words that may be unfamiliar. At the back is a glossary, an index, and a resource list. The book works both for readers with a casual interest in the subject and those needing a resource.
This book is about dolphins and is targeted at ages 7 to 10. It contains 100 full color photographs of different types of dolphins and dolphin relatives. The text did use some challenging words for that age group, but they included how to pronounce any challenging words and what they meant. The book talked about dolphin body parts, what is unique about dolphins, how they live (like their hunting habits and community tendencies), and listed types of ocean and river dolphins and their differences. They talked about how dolphins get around, hunt, and how smart they are. They described some animals related to dolphins (like orcas and pilot whales), some dolphin trivia, ancient tales about dolphins, and stories about dolphins helping others. The book also talked about current threats to dolphins and some simple ways that kids can help. Overall, I'd recommend this book to kids (or even adults) who are interested in dolphins.
I received an ARC review copy of this book from the publisher through Amazon Vine.
