“Dani’s most frustrating and dangerous case yet. When an inmate in death row requests a visit from Dani Ross, she reluctantly agrees to meet with him. After all, what could she possibly do for him at this late date? But while she listens to his story, Dani’s well-tuned detective skills tell her that Eddie Prejean is being framed for murdering his girlfriend. The shocking revelation that an innocent man is sentenced to die propels her into action. Every second counts as Dani and partner Ben Savage scramble for evidence that might stay the execution. But every time they feel close to penetrating the mystery, they run into another brick wall. It’s obvious that somebody is trying to stop the two sleuths from finding out the truth, but who? The race against time takes on an even greater urgency when they link the muster to the Louisiana governor’s office. As she chases clues from the seamy corridors of New Orleans’ French Quarter to the reptile-ridden bayous, Dani is also preoccupied with her deepening feelings for Ben Savage. Suspense grows as they unravel their most frustrating and dangerous case yet.” So overall this was a wonderful ending to the series. I wish the story would have included more things at the end, as there were a few things I still wanted answers to. But overall it was great. There were a few minor inconsistencies like Ben proposing and then being oblivious that a girl was manipulating him to help her... but they were few and minor to the story. There was a great mystery, I wish that Ben and Dani had talked more to each other, but it wouldn’t have made sense for where they were and would have drastically changed the mystery.
Luke asks Dani to look into an old case - so old the man convicted of murder is about to be sentenced to death. Dani must find out the truth in less than a week - or the wrong man may die.
