Ok, this used to be one of my favorite authors. I have read and reread his books for my teenage years, devoured them in college, and personally purchased them for my library and gifted several to budding readers. Basically, this author could do no wrong in my eyes over the last 35-40 years, well, that is until this series.
Even though I had issues with the previous book in this series, my distaste with this specific book is in a completely different vein. Let me begin by stating that I did NOT finish this book; I could not. I was actually frustrated and reading should be for fun especially when you are looking for something for your young elementary age child. Too many characters were presented and it just became to confusing. I almost felt like I needed to write notes to keep everyone straight. This is a children's book so it should be light reading but I felt like it was a school assignment and a quiz was upcoming. I found myself rereading several pages to try to keep people straight. Simply put, I did not enjoy what I had read and decided to call it quits.
This author is a great part of my formative years and deserves props for building my love of reading but this series (and I only read the entire first one and less than 25% of this book) really left a bad taste in my mouth. I cannot recommend this series, but his other works including his 7 Sleeper Series are highly recommended.
