Three players. Two friends. One common enemy.

Harry Spencer had doubts about his friendship with Drew, and concerns about his career choice, but whether or not to support Ty had never been questioned. Without hesitation, he drove from LA to Vegas dragging drunk Drew with him. There was nothing Harry wouldn't do to show his support, but at some point enough was too much. When a beautiful woman falls at his feet, Harry finally sees what's missing from his life.

Laney Jenner hated her career as a forensic accountant, which was as far from Broadway as a performer could get. Luckily, she loved the financial security her position provided, even if did suck the hope out of her. The current job sent her to sin city, where figuring out the dirty left her soiled too. Only by spending time with Harry will she ever be able to clean up her messy life again.

Friendships are tested. Friendships are mended. A dream deferred can still come true.

What made her decide to be an erotica author?

Simple.

How else was she going to parlay her two favorite past times into a career?

Emma is single and loving it. Like her first character, Alysin, Sin for short, she doesn't believe in settling or in settling down. She loves to indulge in her passions whenever the mood strikes and enjoys keeping all of life's cliche moments spicy.

Known for her sense of humor, Emma surrounds herself with friends whose antics often become the source of book fodder. Her ideal situation would be to explore the Caribbean while writing. She pursues that dream daily.

Book two in this series focuses on Harry. He's had enough of his drunk friend Drew and decides to go visit Ty in Vegas to see what Ty is announcing. Drew tags along. While there Harry meets the very sweet Laney and she sweeps him off his feet. I liked the interaction between Harry and Laney. What I didn't like was the interaction between Ty and Harry and the way Harry later covers for Drew and picks him first over Laney. I'm sorry had I been Laney I probably wouldn't have gave Harry a second chance after he tried to sweep the bedroom incident under the table. That is something that in my books that is completely unforgivable. I'd love to see the how author is going to redeem Drew after that, because in my personal opinion he is lower than scum at this point and shouldn't have been carted off to rehab, but to prison instead. To many women read books and then think that type of behavior is acceptable because its just casually dealt with. I still love this author, she's written some great books, but this series has lost its appeal to me.

I give The Mark by Emma Nichols four stars. This is book 2 of the Players series and should not be read as a standalone. You should read these books in the order Emma wrote them. This book is very well written and is a quick read.

Harry Spencer had many reasons to doubt his friendship with Drew but he never once had to question his Friendship and support of his friend Ty. So when his support was needed and he was asked to drive to Vegas he dropped everything and dragged a drunken Drew with him. All of a sudden when a woman falls right at his feet he immediately realizes what is missing from his life.

Laney Jenner is in a career she never want and truly hates because it takes her as far away from her dream of Broadway as you possibly can get. Her job as a Forensic Accountant has recently brought her to Vega which made her fall at the feet of Harry. Will spending time with Harry make her life worth living again or will her life continue to be as messy as it always has been. You have to read the book to find out!

Read this as part of the on-going project to help a friend develop a reading list for her group, Adult Children of parents with PTSD and this book fits right in.

Both Laney, our heroine, and Harry, our hero, deal with it. Laney's is in the past. She has faced it, learned how to manage it. Harry is a raging co-dependent who can't seem to escape his guilt long enough to see that he is enabling Drew. He is also astonishingly naive.

At first, the switch from Harry's POV to Laney's was a challenge but I soon had it in stride. She doesn't cut Harry any slack no matter how much she loves him but she loves herself enough to know she wasn't going to allow Harry to suck her back into co-dependency and enabling.

Having had to work through similar issues in my own life, I could identify with Harry and cheer him on.

There are so many layers to this story. The lightest is the laugh-out-loud humor that almost resembles the Keystone Cops in slapstick comedy. Note, if you have a sensitive stomach or a sympathetic gag reflex, you have been warned: vomit plays a large part in this book. Then there's the sweet romantic level where we watch Harry and Laney get close to one another, and Ty and Kate get closer. Then we hit the deep, dark emotional undertow. Harry and Laney have enough baggage to sink an ocean liner and Drew's presence in their life makes a mess of everything they're trying to build together. I kind of like Drew in the previous book. I felt sorry for him. It's going to take a miracle to redeem him now, but I can't wait to see how it comes about.

The story of Laney the forensic accountant and Harry the film maker and constant companion to Drew the drunk is another thought provoking read by this author. Laney took up forensic accounting for the security but her true passion is singing and acting but had to give them up when tragedy. Struck. Harry started his own film company as he did not want to follow in his fathers footsteps in the mainstream film industry. This is a true match made in heaven. You will not be disappointed in this five star read.
