The story of how young volunteers from the Swiss Red Cross--Aid to Children (Croix Rouge Suisse--Secours aux Enfants) took over an abandoned Château and gave a refuge to the children during the German occupation of France. A few of the survivors have written their story as adults, as have some of the adults who protected the children. However the most detailed account of the children's time at the Château de La Hille, by their school teacher Sebastian Steiger, The Children of Château de La Hille , has not been available in English until now.
This was pretty interesting if you are interested in the Holocaust. I appreciated that it was actually written by the man who went to France to care for these children, and also included some diary excerpts from the children themselves. It wasn't much to look at and the translation was only fairl
This is a rather long book and much of it is interesting; but a lot of reputation describing over the years these children in hiding basically. It is good that someone wrote it to document the lives of these children. I was ready to finish the book though.
