With the vampire virus slowly but surely working its way through Lexi and Reece, they must soon face down the being that has infected them or risk losing their souls to darkness. While on their way to confront Lexi's mother, the squad is called away to investigate a slew of missing corpses.
Reece has his own problems to face. He is torn between his duty to his team and the lifelong dream that is now being offered to him. While he can postpone the inevitable, he will eventually have to make a decision. Not even he knows what his final choice will be.
It doesn’t take long before their newest mission takes a turn for the worse. Lexi is confronted with an awful truth about herself that she has been trying her hardest to deny. Her survival depends on tapping a talent that could cause her own team to turn against her if they learn of its existence.
I began reading horror and paranormal books when most girls my age were still reading fairy stories. I always dreamed that one day I would be able to write stories that readers could become lost in.
The Mortis, Shifter Squad, Hellscourge and Fate's Warriors series are connected, but can be read as stand alone series. The overarching theme about Fate's chosen champions will come to an end with my fifth series; Loki's Exile.
My sixth series, Hunter Elite, begins a new saga with the seventh series, Half Fae Hunter, as a spin off.

J C Diem is a great writer and this is a good book. However when you dread reading it because you're afraid that she is turning two of the best characters in paranormal fiction into two of the worst, it kinda takes away from the writing. I understand keeping it interesting but there are other ways than by destroying your lead characters. She turned Reese from a good guy hero into a complete jerk.
But that's nothing to what she did to Lexi's character. In the first three books she was this great, strong, self-reliant, independent teenager who pretty much had to look out for herself most of her life. As a result, she was mature and knew how to handle herself. It's why I liked these books so much. It's nice to see a really strong female lead in this genre of paranormal fiction. By end of book four, I could already see that character making a quick exit. Slight spoiler alert ahead! Book five saw a complete reversal of Lexi's character into a pathetic weakling who could do nothing but feel anguish that her hero wasn't sure he wanted to be with her anymore. Not only that, she sat around twiddling her thumbs while he decided between her and the pure blood wolf he dreamed about. The old Lexi would have said " Oh Hell No! You can have him. I don't need some unfeeling, and completely self-centered jerk" and walked away.
That's why I'm only giving this book three stars. I just don't agree with completely destroying the characters you've spent several books building up and in which your readers have become invested.

Ok, the story is more worth a 3-4 but I'm so ready to drop the book because of the hero/heroine .. she is supposed to be kick ass and awesome, the drama he (and the author) puts her through is becoming depressing, at this point I want her with damn near anyone but him. I'm pretty sure I know the excuse the hero will have for his actions but DONT CARE drama gone on too long. on her little adventure at the end of this book I totally want her to find a better stronger nicer Alpha to break the bond so she can forget Reece.
Also hello dying!!! why are they not prioritizing getting rid of the vamp taint before they become will-less minions if they don't die, super minions at that, I would have thought that threat would be their top priority.
ALso over her constant self flagellation, Oh I deserve every bad thing that happens. Somehow it must be my fault or I deserve it blah blah .. OK sorry rant over
I love this series and I would so give it three stars but… I just can’t get passed this struggle going on with Lexi and Reece. It takes someone who has the potential to be a bad ass chick and turns her into a mopey, needy… girl. Reece is just an ass-hat. I know he’s had some dark shit going on in his head for the last few books, but there’s no excuse for the first one. He was just being a scared little beotch.
Ok, Reece is officially a jerk now. I don't care what the eventual explanation is going to be for his behavior. I hope Lexi finds someone else but the end is not very promising. I can't wait for the next installment. Totally hooked
The team are all set to hunt down Lexi’s vampire mother when a call comes in about missing corpses. They were set to put their next mission on hold when the situation becomes direr when children start going missing. With little to go on and innocent lives in the balance, the team once again put the needs of others above their own. Let the hunt begin.
I really wish I could tell you that things are set to improve between Lexi and Reece in this one but I can’t. In fact, that story arc is starting to hurt since I’m a romantic at heart and the distance growing between Reece and Lexi is becoming almost unbearable. I honestly don’t know how Lexi is managing to keep herself together. In some ways I feel sorry for Reece as he’s dealing with the shock of who he really is and who he was in his succubus inspired dream, but that doesn’t mean I like him much right now. I want to reach into the pages and slap him actually. I also want the team to sit down and talk because there are so many secrets between them all. I can’t help but think if they communicated better as a team, they might make more headway in their issues. So fair warning, be prepared for more disappointments and some serious changes. Even Kala’s luck takes a turn for the worse in Corse Thieves when her path crosses with a pride of lions. It’s not all bad though, we do learn more about shifters and how the different breeds act. Since I love shifter stories and since the shifters in this series are a little different to many of the other books I’ve read, it’s a real joy to be learning more about them and their world.

First off it was another good book. The author continues a storyline that keeps you interested and turning the pages quickly just to see what happens next. There's still a bit of editing errors but still much less than the first novel. The novels storyline was full of action, monsters, New friends well at least acquaintances and then heart break. Is it bad that I really want to kick Reece right now? He so needs to rude awakening and a very long hard kick where he will feel it for days. Maybe over and over again when the pain has gone away. Oh poor Lex and the squad. I'm upset I will need to wait to read the next installment. Yes read this series as it is worth the time.
Book five takes Lexi’s pain to another goddamn level of agony along with her skills as a shifter and top notch sniper. She feels isolated by the darkness attacking her soul; a consequence of having a soul sucking vampire for a mother. Lexi is also confronted with an awful truth about herself that she has been trying her hardest to deny.
They are way outnumbered on their latest mission making it necessary to team up with unlikely allies. Both Kala and Flynn get romantic, not with each other, but Lexi’s love life is far from ideal. The intricate plot in this book will induce an big emotional response from the reader; keep the tissues handy.
Sniff.... i really hate Reese right now for making her feel like that.

Accidentally found a first book of the series and got hooked. Unusual story line. Great characters. Love that each story has an ending to the main problem, so story line doesn't get piles of unfinished business left over from the previous books. but have to warn that there is always a little cliff hanger at the end of each book as well. This last book ending was sad, that's allies tell as a spoiler. I can't wait till new book comes out.
I loved the book but it made me kinda mad at the end when reece just left and didnt care about his family or lexi to get with another girl,he must of never loved lexi if it was that easy to push her aside for someone else, hopefully in the next book everything turns out ok,but I will be kinda mad if he has sex with the girl he believes to be his mate and then goes back to his old pack,if i was lexi I wouldnt forgive him,and neither should the rest of his old pack.

Angry as well as heartbroken? Angry at Reece.....he is such a D*ck! Heartbroken for poor Lexi! However I am sure there is more to this than meets the eye! I just hope that when Reece comes round Lexi kicks his unfeeling Arse! Roll on September!
Well this series is moving right along. Reece now has discovered that not only is he an Alpha werewolf, he is also a "pure blood" and not bitten as the others in his group are. With these changes, it appears that Reece just may leave his group and stay with his were wolf family.
This book is really good, but I am hoping that the reason that Reece is acting like an assistant is because mother dearest is mind jacking him. But might not be true. So next book here I come.
Not only are they facing a new dangerous foe, Reece is still troubled from his dreams whilst ensnared by the sucubus and does not know what to do. Putting strain on his and Lexi’s tenuous relationship. Well written and packed with action I cannot wait for the next book
Why didnt they go deal with the vamp issue? Why is reece such a piece of shit? Why does the author harp on the dumb-ass "exclusivity" vow lexi made? That makes no snese at all.
