Moving on after his wife leaves him, middle-aged John explores a side of himself he'd pushed aside since college, and dates men. It's not working out too well when Logan, a local professor looking to rent the apartment over John's garage, enters his life. John doesn't expect Logan--younger, pierced, tattooed--to be anything more than a monthly rent check, but he accidentally overhears Logan's steamy BDSM session with a casual partner and he's turned on like never before. He can't stop thinking about what it would be like to be the one on his knees.
It doesn't take much to persuade Logan to teach John how to be a sub, but the experiment in submission quickly turns into much more than John ever dreamed of. The sex is sizzling but it's the sense of fulfillment John feels when he yields control to Logan that he craves. Despite Logan's struggle to adjust to being in a relationship and John's inexperience, they're moving toward something good when John's faced with a choice. Two paths lie before him, both offering happiness, but only one calls for his surrender, body and heart, to the one he loves.
I hate to be hard on this one because I am such a great fan of Jane Davitt & Alexa Snow, but this was a lackluster attempt. The BDSM sex was mild and few and far between and I don't feel the characters were as fleshed out as much as they could have been.
I love stories where a D/s relationship has the younger man playing the Dom role, as this one does, but I was left underwhelmed by their chemistry. I don't think Ms. Dewitt and Ms. Snow knew if they were writing a story of a man in a midlife crisis, enjoying his new-found freedom to explore his bisexuality or a man in a midlife crisis exploring the wonders that come with submitting to another person, preferably a man. This one just plain didn't click for me.
If you want to read Jane and Alexa at their best, I recommended the exceptional Square Pegs and Room at the Top series. Both series contain hot, romantic BDSM that is flat-out perfection.
John is 39, bisexual and lonely. His wife walked away from their marriage one year ago and he has had some dates, but there are a few things lacking. One he is aware of and the other comes as a big surprise when he hears his new tenant’s D/s scene through the wall. John is ready to explore sex with men, but submission is a big surprise to him.
Logan is 27 and seems to be somewhat new to Domination. He’s had scenes with men and in a prior relationship, but that was about the extent of it; his Domination never went past the scene, but he has considered it. He thinks he has John pegged as a submissive pretty quickly, but he didn’t expect John to be so willing. Being a tenant in John’s home makes it easy for them to explore things and soon they are fully immersed in a D/s relationship.
The story is told in alternating POV and it started off really well with Logan and John, seemingly complete opposites, feeling each other out as landlord/tenant and potential friends and then starting a D/s relationship. After their first few scenes though, the relationship felt very rushed and the story started to feel scattered. The timeline has gaps where we’re told that time passed and things have happened and I feel like I missed out on them building up to things both emotionally and physically. John surrenders completely fairly quickly and considering his prior inexperience I expected more of an internal struggle. Within just a few weeks John is ready to jump into a 24/7 relationship and I found that just a bit hard to understand. There are some external stumbling blocks, John still has to get divorced and a tragedy shakes up Logan’s life, but overall things go almost too smoothly for the two men.
I did like having a smaller, younger Dom and there is an interesting switch that is introduced in the middle of the book and I would have liked to have seen these aspects explored a bit more. These authors write kink very well and the first half of the story had me fully on board, but ultimately the relationship here felt a bit rushed with the gaps in the timeline taking away from its development. Not a bad story, but not my favorite from Jane Davitt and Alexa Snow.
This contemporary romance blooms into a satisfying tale of self-discovery. John is a middle age man who questions if he should have been married to a woman. With strained relations, John's wife leaves him. Isolated, John appears to be in suspended animation, just waiting for his wild wife to return to him. To his surprise, a tattooed tough guy applying to be his tenant jolts John back into the land of the living.
Full disclosure, I did not read the blurb of this book. I picked it up solely because of the authors. Ms. Davitt and Ms. Snow pen lovely romances with realistic characters that it is easy for me to just go in cold. I went into this book with no expectations. The experience is delightful. The story starts out slow with Logan searching for a place to live. It is clear that Logan is often judged by his looks and tattoos. He fits the alternative lifestyle stereotype as a sexual dominant male with a sadistic streak. He is also a professor at a local university which is what catches people off guard. It certainly throws John for a loop.
I loved the two characters in this book. Both John and Logan are so different and as they interact, they come closer together. They can see each other's points of view and appreciate the differences. Their sexual chemistry is smoldering hot. The sexual journey Logan entices John into is an erotic epiphany. With a little teasing smack and overheard moans, John cannot help but fall into Logan's kinky world. It is fun watching John be introduced to the kinky lifestyle. Ms. Davitt and Ms. Snow do an excellent job of showing how relationships can organically grow into a kinky erotic power exchange. As always, their BDSM is spot on.
This story is more than just a love story. The authors add depth to it with strained relationships and a shocking tragedy. The give and take of this relationship and how the two work hard to build trust is what makes this story so good. It brings about a realism which captivates a reader. At the end of the story, it feels as if we are friends and know John and Logan. This kinky erotica is recommended to m/m readers who are looking for a sweet and meaningful romance.
Jane Davitt and Alexa Snow are auto buys direct from the publisher for me but this book wasn't up to their usual standard.
The relationship between John and Logan seemed very rushed. The way this book started, with Logan coming to the conclusion that John was submissive and John, with no idea, just falling into it in a matter of days of meeting Logan was simply rushed. I think this book could have been amazing, it the authors had taken the time to groom John to the idea of submission slower and more psychologically, and if they hadn't waffled continuously with Logan and his desire for 24/7 domination. Instead they rushed these parts and John dropped to his knees so quickly it was unrealistic and made Logan, John and their relationship seem shallow and immature.
There are some curves thrown that I appreciated but again, I think it could have been so much more had the authors taken their time and thrown the main curve earlier or later in the story which would have changed and/or cemented the dynamic with more depth.
All in all, it's not a terrible book but it's not their best.
I am a big fan of authors Jane Davitt and Alexa Snow so I was really excited to give this book a try. And on paper, it was totally my taste, with a newbie sub learning all about BDSM, combined with an age gap that has the younger Dom training the older sub. And I think there were some elements here that worked well. John is engaging as a man who has been stagnating sexually and is still recovering emotionally from his wife’s departure. I enjoyed seeing him find this outlet that suddenly gives him a new spark. There are also some sexy scenes where John and Logan explore his submission for the first time. And I particularly liked a section where Logan experiences a loss and in his grief the men switch Dom/sub roles temporarily to help Logan work through it.
However, I did have some issues here, particularly with the way these guys just jump into things and the lack of development in the characters and storyline. Like I said, John has never even considered himself anything but vanilla and has only a basic understanding of BDSM. I was looking forward to watching John as he begins to learn more about himself, the world of BDSM, etc, but it happens so quickly that it was hard to believe the speed of the transition from totally unaware to full on submissive. For Logan’s part, he meets John, decides he is really an undiscovered sub, and then sort of just starts treating him like his sub even before discussing it with John. Not in a sexual way, but giving him Dom orders. I found it kind of rude and presumptuous and it was honestly very off putting. These guys move so quickly from zero to 100 that we never get to explore their feelings or see John learn more about the world of BDSM. They are just all in almost immediately.
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars for this story. This was a BDSM journey between a slightly younger Dom Logan, and an older, inexperienced sub John. Two men who found their way into a very erotic relationship and began to explore their passions and desires. There were moments that I really enjoyed and others that didn't quite work for me and I started to lose my focus. In saying that, I really enjoyed their adventurous spirit and the determination of John to move forward and ensure Logan trusted that.
I am a big fan of the May/December dynamic, especially when it is flipped in a D/s way and the Dom is the younger man. One of my favorite books is Dom of Ages by KC Wells, so when I discovered that one of my favorite writing duos, and auto-buy authors, Davitt and Snow, were writing a story with the same May/December dynamic, I was ecstatic! I will say, for the most part, they pulled it off. I liked this book. I didn’t love this book; there was a disconnect emotionally for me in the way it was written, but I definitely appreciated the premise and enjoyed the read.
We meet Logan first, with glimpses of him in Dom mode, and discover he’s not really into his current sub. He’s not really into the Dom thing anymore either. He enjoys it, control is something he could never accede, but it seems he’s on autopilot lately—he’s lost the spark that makes it exciting. Forced to move from his current lodgings, he answers an ad for a room close to the college where he works as a professor. Renting has always been the way to go for him; permanence just doesn’t fit.
John is at a crossroads. His wife has left him, and since they never had children, John is feeling a little lost and a lot alone. Renting out the apartment above his garage seems to be a way to move on with his life. The studio was his wife’s art space, and cleaning out the clutter she left behind is a way to start moving forward. When his ad is answered by a college professor, John is ecstatic, picturing an older man whom he might find things in common with, and a new friend. What he gets is Logan, a younger man covered in tattoos and piercings who has a string of men coming and going from his apartment, and strange noises he can’t put a finger on. John becomes a voyeur through the wall when he discovers exactly what the strange noises are, and it awakens something in the man he never knew existed.
John’s realization that he would like a relationship with a man isn’t a new one for him. The realization that he may be a submissive, and the fact he gets turned on from picturing Logan putting him on his knees, is a revelation. Unfortunately, this is where the disconnect comes in for the reader. This particular part of the story happens too fast. This initial period of wonderment gets swept under the rug, and we dive right into a D/s dynamic between the two men that didn’t have enough time to develop. I know that that’s the “good stuff”, but it has to be set up correctly. The whole novel just seems to be written on one level, emotionally.
I did truly enjoy the dynamic between the two main characters. Like I said before, I love a May/December D/s flipped on its head, and this one doesn’t disappoint. John has certain discriminatory ideals regarding the younger generation, and Logan has never dealt with a sub who is so mature and sure of who he is as a person. They learn from each other in many ways not related to the D/s dynamic, and it’s good to see the progression of them as individuals. Plus, there is a section in the middle where Logan has to really lean on John, and their roles are practically reversed for a while. I loved that, it really speaks to both men understanding all that is involved in making a relationship like theirs work, if both parties can experience it and empathize with the other’s viewpoint. Logan does a lot of growing, evolving into the kind of Dom that John requires, remembering why he got into the BDSM scene to begin with, and rediscovering his love of control through his sub’s reactions. John is faced with a decision when his wife comes back into his life, and he has to make a choice between her and Logan. I really got the emotional connection that John has with his submission, so even though I knew he would have to be faced with the choice, I knew what he would choose.
This one was a great light BDSM read for me. The scenes are not intense, the storyline is not intense, the characters are not particularly deep, but overall it was an enjoyable and decently paced read. I think I am used to the series mindset from this author duo, and as such, much more character driven dialogue and complex personalities, and that’s on me not them. In the end, Logan and John get their HEA, and I finished this book totally satisfied. I would recommend it for those looking for a standalone, modest BDSM book with a solid HEA and an interesting dynamic.
Well, this one wasn’t anything like I thought it would be. I’ve always been drawn the the BDSM stories where there’s a bit of an age gap, involving two people who couldn’t be more opposite. Reading the blurb for this one I was really looking forward to seeing how this interesting storyline would play out. Almost immediately I could tell something wasn’t working for me. The characters were off almost like their personalities were forced. Outside of a scene I didn’t really believe Logan as a Dom but in the scene it was totally believable so the back and forth was off putting and took me out of the story. I also struggled with liking John as a character, there wasn’t anything that really endeared me to him and that was also a bummer for me.
After his divorce from his wife John is at a point in his life where he wants to explore his sexuality and his attraction to other men. He also realizes there’s a submissive side that his new tenant Logan brings out in him.
In a situation where he has to find a new place to stay rather suddenly Logan becomes John’s tenant and both decide to act the on the curious attraction between them.
Logan and John embark on a very new beginner stage D/s relationship. Logan is a patient Dom and teacher while John is eager for approval and praise. Their scenes were ok, hot but not anything mind blowing.
I don’t know, maybe this was one of those types of things where I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to enjoy this one.
Needless to say these are 2 great authors but this story just wasn’t for me.

John and Logan are really hot together. Logan is a younger Dom and John is an older sub. I love May-December stories, particularly with the younger partner tending to be the more dominant of the relationship. However. This is a very kink heavy story and I'm disappointed that there wasn't more substance to the characters and their story. They was barely any internal or external conflict. It had the kind of insta-love you should only see in like YA books. I love the Square Peg series from these two authors, but this one just didn't have a good story for the characters. The way they tell their story lacks any kind of creativity that draws the reader in. It's good for a smut read, but it doesn't have that emotional or sentimental feel to it that I like with my BDSM titles. BDSM has to be done carefully so it doesn't seem like it's just smutty, or abusive. This one lacked the sensuality and initmacy that can be associated with BDSM. The fact that the age between the characters and roles is reversed, I don't think helped. Logan acted like a dick a lot of the time - he didn't have the aggressive, overpowering, dominance that Doms have. John, was a very weak character. Submissives are very strong, and John didn't really have that about him. I saw very little actual "character" or personality in him. Not one of my favorite title reads. 2.5 stars
I love John as a novice sub, finding new identity kneeling at Logan's feet. But Logan, I never connect with. Might be because I don't have a single sadistic bone in me, but I do think I never find any problem reading other S/M books before.
I didn't think I would end up liking this book. The initial meeting between the two MCs felt awkward and forced, and their first encounter had that BDSM 101 feel. However, as it went on it got better. It delved into the D/s relationship and not excessive focus on the sex. For me, this really made the dynamic plausible. Too often I see too much focus on scenes and the sex aspects of D/s which is fine, but the focus on relationship dynamics is what makes a deeper connection believable to me. The authors do however, leave gaps in between scenes in the chronology of the story and they don't often make it obvious. You can only tell when you come upon things like, "...a few months ago..." and "weeks ago..." If you're not paying attention, it could feel like instalove but it really isn't. I also like that this is the story of a man starting over in life and that the author/s do not try to manufacture unnecessary drama around it. All in all I found it quite enjoyable, even though the beginning could use some tweaking.
Everyone seemed very reasonable and therefore kind of boring. Have never been very fond of POV switch between chapters, so there's that too. Just... there wasn't that spark of chemistry I was expecting between the main characters. I kept waiting to be swept up in this romance and it just never happened. That and the bdsm was pretty tame even for something that switched into more 24/7, which also came up pretty fast.
The tragedy in the middle of the book kind of made me sigh. Felt a bit like shock value except it was a bit flat and there to give the relationship outside tension, which it wouldn't need if the relationship was more exciting. IDK, haha.
I basically skimmed from the middle on. Did slow down to read a bit when Wish I enjoyed it more. The beginning wasn't bad, but it kind of never did more than flatline on me.
I've only read a handful of books where the sub is older than the Dom, so it was a pleasant surprise here. Not only is John older than Logan (by twelve years), he's also new to the scene. John feels like something's missing and after he hears Logan in a scene, he thinks this is it. He's confused and unsure about what he feels and I liked following John's thoughts as he struggled to figure it out.
I loved the pace of the story in the beginning, but more and more time elapsed as the story continued. I wanted more of their scenes. Most of them were only mentioned in flashbacks. I loved the epilogue, but I'm not sure when it took place, and I would have loved for it to have been a little more further in the future. I have so many questions! I could go on and on, but overall I enjoyed this one, but I wish it had been flushed out a little more.
Maybe 1.5 This was like reading about one dimensional characters. I knew more about John’s ex than I did about him. So Logan thinks John is hot and fascinating and John gets turned on by hearing Logan in a BDSM scene. John sort of becomes Logan’s sub ( it was very choppy and not quite defined, John didn’t even get a safe word until the end ), and they sort of plod along. The times when they are interacting outside of a scene are awkward and when the authors introduced a plot point I’m guessing meant to shock us it didn’t work and made everything completely unbalanced. And suddenly they are in love and John is going to be his sub 24/7 and really? They still don’t know much about each other, what are their likes/dislikes/hobbies, and if they sat down and sketched out the rules of their Dom/sub relationship I missed it so how is this going to work? If you want an excellent BDSM book with a fantastic relationship read their Room At The Top series.
I feel like I should I like this book. It has all the element I'd ever asked for, especially one of my personal favorite: older & bigger sub. Yet, the book felt lacking, even more so as the story progress. The sexes were lukewarm and the relationship was stale. Added in a few pet peeves of mine, and it was a meal ruined. While the book was well written, as expect from Jane Davitt, the missing parts are loosely pierced together - or maybe it's just not a book for me.
I was simply caught up in this story, from beginning to end. John and Logan's commitment to each other at every step of their relationship was heartwarming. They affirmed it often; that and their communication made it, them, work. This story is not without difficulties, but they add to it rather than detract. Once again these authors have shown why, for me, anything of theirs is an automatic purchase.
Another wonderful book by Jane Davitt andAlexa Snow. I try and read anything they’ve written in the bdsm category. I loved how quickly John recognized his submissive tendencies. These things can certainly remain hidden most of your life and suddenly come to the surface.
