Initial Thoughts: This is a hard one for me to rate. As a series finale, I found the epic battle lacking. It was just too easy to get rid of Big Bad (and I'll refer to him as such to avoid spoiling). In fact, Big Bad was my absolute favorite - so full of himself and his observations about his situation made me laugh out loud. I did enjoy the featured couple Kamen and Genvieve who made quite the pair. Those two sizzled. For fans of the series - all the Nightwalkers appear in this book as they battle Big Bad, so it's nice to see how these couples are doing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for a review copy of this book.
Finally the book that wraps up this series and what an amazing journey it has been. From the very first book Jacob Ms Frank has captured my imagination with ideas and prose that are a sheer delight to read. This conclusion pulls in so many elements with much loved characters from previous books coming together to battle the evil God Apep. For so long the twelve Nightwalker nations have been under a powerful curse and completely at odds with each other but the only hope they have of defeating Apep is to band together but that looks like a mission doomed to fail. Kamen blames himself for Apep's reappearance and is determined to use all the magic he has learned to rid the world of the God once and for all. He just needs to convince the final three Nightwalker nations to join him but his first foray to meet the Wraith's does not prove a resounding success. Nevertheless he has convinced Vieve to come with him but the half Wraith has never known kindness and is utterly bewildered by the scholarly Kamen. As Vieve becomes more involved with the battling Nightwalker's she finally begins to realise her own worth but more importantly she awakens to life and passion . Kamen can not resist the enchanting Vieve but time is not on their side! I loved the world that this author has created and have devoured all her books. I did feel less enamoured initially by her Bodywalkers as the idea of literally jumping into another's body didn't sit well with me. Luckily as this series galloped towards this book I understood the concept more and indeed the passionate romances that fuel these books kept this reader gripped. There's romance here for Kamen and Vieve which is very sensual but at times it felt secondary to the overall plot. As this seems to be the end it's fitting to have those characters from previous books but there did seem an awful lot of explaining who and what everyone was. As for the conclusion well it's quite rightly a battle but who lives and who doesn't , well that's for you to discover when you read this book. I'm not sure I'm completely happy with the authors choice of casualties but it's her vision and as someone who loves happy endings I cannot grumble too much. Yes Ms Frank did her Nightwalker's justice but I still feel sad it's over but maybe a spin off series? Certainly there's scope as not all characters have found a definitive happy ending but that's for the authors Muse to ponder. I was gifted a copy if this in exchange for an honest review
Bodywalker Kamen will do anything to atone for mistakenly releasing the God Apep and putting all Nightwalkers in grave danger. The God will soon be at full strength and to stop him, Kamen hopes to win the allegiance of the Wraiths, a despised faction of Nightwalkers that use their deathtouch anyway they see fit. Kamen knows it will be an uphill battle but he never expected to find Viève. A half-breed Wraith, Viève wants to help despite being hated and told by her own kind she has nothing to offer. Both having something to prove, Kamen and Viève set out to accomplish the impossible. Break the curse separating the Nightwalker races, unite the nations, and defeat a God that can bring about the end of them all.
The Nightwalker world spans multiple series and I've got to know and love many awesome characters. It all comes to an end in Nightwalker with Kamen, a hero looking to make amends with his former enemies and stop a God he unleashed, and Viève, a half-breed Wraith spurned by her own kind yet still chooses to fight. I haven't liked Kamen up until this point because I wasn't convinced he is really sorry for the things he did as a Templar for centuries. I think the author does a really good job at building sympathy for him due in part he really does feel terrible and will give his life for the cause. Having a character switch sides isn't easy to pull off and I think the author is able to convincingly do so with Kamen.
Viève. She's a sweet, brave heroine and helps Kamen in a way he doesn't realize he needs but it's easy to get tired of the self-deprecating. For decades the callous Wraiths hurled insults and of course that affects her but no matter how much Kamen, Jackson, and Marissa welcome and praise her, she rarely believes it. She's quick to jump to Kamen's defense but not for herself and misunderstands what Kamen says, taking it was rejection. I wanted more fight to her, especially in a series with strong heroines.
There's no shortage of hot lovin' between Viève and Kamen but that's where the chemistry ends for me. She feels a bit too naive for a male with so much knowledge. In no way do I mean she isn't smart enough for Kamen but she doesn't have much life experience and for someone who has lived many lifetimes, she comes off as inexperienced in social situations and amid the battle. She feels out of her element and almost as if she's forced into the story.
I was surprised to learn this is the end of the entire Nightwalker world and from a post on Jacquelyn Franks’ blog, it necessarily wasn’t her first decision. There's a lot to wrap up in one book and the author does a pretty decent job at giving one last moment with many beloved characters. From Demons and Vampires to Shadowdwellers, Bodywalkers, and Djynns, fans get a few final scenes with characters from this series, the Nightwalker series, and the Shadowdwellers and I really appreciate and treasure every moment.
That being said, there's a rushed feel to this book and unfortunately the big battle between Apep and everyone doesn't have the fireworks I was craving. I still have questions I'll have to answer with my fan girl imagination and Kamen and Viève did not take the series out on a high note BUT, I was entertained. I was super giddy to see my series favorites and I actually got an ending. If I knew before starting any of these books this is how it would end, I would still take the plunge because I truly enjoyed the journey. - Stephanie
5 certainty stars for Nightwalker. I remember the first time I picked up a book by Jacquelyn Frank and it was the first book in this series, Jacob. I love how fabulous and gifted of a writer Frank is because she can see an overall bigger picture while carving out smaller worlds within that picture but still pulling in the bigger picture. I love that everything comes together in this book and yet Kamen and Genevieve are the center of the story. I'm sad to see the series end but what a great way to go!
I love fantasy and paranormal stories because they really show how well a writer can write since the world is of their own making almost completely. Frank is a very descriptive writer so you see everything vividly from the colors of a characters hair to shape of the bed. I loved this story and part of it is because the author is just ridiculously talented.
Ah, Kamen, darling, I do like thee. Kamen is an interesting character in that he was an arrogant, selfish, and greedy being for many centuries and only recently did he have a change of heart and attempt to redeem himself. He's well read, intellectual, clever, and usually reserved. I say usually because Vieve brings out the passionate and possessive nature he didn't realize he had.
Vieve is a strong character because she's learned to survive even when others treat her as less than worthy. She's a half breed and that causes scorn until she meets Kamen. He accepts her as she is, as do the other members of the Nightwalker alliance. Kamen unleashes Vieve's passionate nature and helps her to view herself as worthy.
While the fate of all the Nightwalkers is at stake, Kamen and Vieve find love and redemption in each other. Kamen might save Vieve but she saves him in kind. It is the best kind of scenario and one I truly love. The story is hot, fast paced, filled with adventure, and completely captivating.
I've made no secret of loving Jacquelyn Frank. Her very first Nightwalker book, Jacob, is what drew me into the Paranormal genre and every successor from there in this series is what kept me staying.
This being the Epic Conclusion to her Nightwalker universe. And what better way to finish off than to bring all of the characters together. Oh not on their own, but through the convincing of the stiffest upper lip I've read about in a long while, Kamen.
Teaming up with a half-breed Wraith, who is less loved by her own race than the rest of the Nightwalkers, they set out to convince the "secretive" race to join.
The chemistry Frank writes about here as evolved from her writings of old, into a modernized telling of attraction, lust and ultimately love.
I think that's particularly why I give this a five star, the recent predecessors falling short of what I've come to expect from this author. Here though she steps up the ante and writes paranormal romance of which we've come to know her, the very top tier....
And... she leaves room for the younger generation and promises perhaps a fresh and contemporary take on this... definitely something to look forward to...

First I have to say it took me way to long to finish this one because when I got confused I had to find answers. So that meant heading back to the beginning of the series. I had read the book just before this one and was lost in that one also. So this time around I made sure that I went all the way back and got the whole story. Don't get me wrong each book has a different couple to love but the overall plot line draws you in and makes you want to understand it all for all the angles presented.
Kaman was of course more than he was first presented as in the first book of the series or even the second and third. But let me say that he most certainly made up for his lack of it all. Kaman brought forth a man to be proud of and stake a claim on. He proved to be more than a single glance.
Now for those you us that have followed all the previous series or at least read a book or two in each. This was a perfect opportunity to catch up with the others from the Nightwalker, Shadowdwellers, and the World of Nightwalker series. The 12 nations of the Nightwalkers have all come together and have all made a stand. Franks capture worlds that have rich notes of fascinations that carry forth in to vivid fantasy.

In this fifth book of The World of Nightwalkers, Ms. Frank brings back all the previous characters of the series in this final saga. I highly recommend you to read the previous books in order to fully grasp and understand the characters and their motivations. With that being said, Ms. Frank creates a realm where the Nightwalkers must work together to save themselves and the human race. This final book was a perfect conclusion where romance, adventure, fantasy, and paranormal was perfectly incorporated.
When Kamen approaches the wrath compound in an attempt to form a treaty, he meets Genevieve. Genevieve is a ½ wrath, ½ human. Wrath are the most dreaded of all the Nightwalkers. But even Genevieve's own people find her to be lesser which gives her a very unique perspective to Kamen's plea.
It has all comes down to this...Genevieve and Kamen must bring all the Nightwalker clans together or face certain destruction from Apep.
Frank does a wonderful job bringing all the participants back for this big showdown.
Frankly, Nightwalker brings us a nail biting inducing plot. It was intense! Action packed! adrenaline pumping story that made for marvelous reading.
I received this ARC copy of Nightwalker from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication August 25, 2015.
To atone for a grievous error, the Bodywalker, Kamen has to convince other nations of the Nightwalkers to set aside their differences and band together and no tribe presents a greater challenge than the Wraiths in this thrilling conclusion to the Nightwalkers saga. Wow, what an awesome conclusion! I have to say that I have faithfully followed the Nightwalker world from inception and each and every story always brings me great enjoyment, surprises and lots of fascinating and sexy characters, so while I am very sorry to see this world coming to an end, I am very pleased with the spectacular finish although I do have a wish that one of the Djynn could maybe grant – a future series concerning Dax’s daughter would be nice.
A bit of a disappointing end to a decent series. Kamen is sent to try to bring the remaining NightWalker factions to the fold to help battle the evil Apep. He meets half-wraith Vieve; and they are boinking within 24 hours. Almost all the NW's are at the compound, so there is a lot of catchup from all the NightWalker series. They plan for battle, and do a heck of a lot of talking; then there is a short battle, and *poof* it's all over.
Much as I've enjoyed most of these books/series over the years, I'm really ready for Frank to move on to something new.
Easy read despite it’s weighty tone, what with the war and all. A bit too character heavy, it definitely did not focus on the leads.
Nice intro to a few other nightwalker species and their skills. Lovely descriptions of settings and architecture as usual. But this was more of a base touching with all prior characters (#OvercrowdedAvengersMovieStyle).
Basically an opportunity to wrap up loose ends with the Big Bad. A bit too easy of a wrap up in the end, as is happens. The characters in the book pointed this out themselves in a bit of fourth wall breaking.
It even somehow managed to make the Big Bad Apep look slightly ridiculous and incompetent which was not the prior impression given of him.
But conclusions to series are always welcome, so if you’ve read the others definitely finish.
If you’re just picking this up randomly don’t bother. You will be completely lost and it will make no sense as a stand alone or as a semblance of a love story (the weakest part of all of this).
It was nostalgic to visit with everyone, but this is admittedly the weakest of the series, to the point where one is glad to see it end with relative finality, which was not a thought that would have occurred to me prior.
This is the final book of Nightwalker/World of Nightwalker series might have been about bringing both worlds of Nightwalkers together and destroying the god, Apep, before he enslaves the human race, but I enjoyed the enjoyed the romance between the most hated Bodywalker and the half-wraith, Vieve, the most.
In this cataclismic ending of the the Nightwalker and World of the Nightwalker series, I came to love the enemy. Kamenati was the second in command to Odjit of the Templer Bodywalkers for centuries. Every reincarnation he studied and learned more magic spells and fought to destroy the Politic and in particular, Menes and Hatshepsut, their leaders. Kamen was responsible for Menes death in his last reincarnation. But when Kamen tried to heal a dying Odjit, he resurrected the imp God, Apep, he knew there was only one person he could turn to to help destroy his mistake -- Menes, the Politic and their allies.
Apep/Odjit's plan to destroy the nightwalkers so that she may be free to control the humans, who will worship her or die, is all on Kamen's shoulders. Guilt is nothing that Kamen has ever dealt with before and now the weight of what he has done, in this life and in the past, is eating at him and tearing down his centuries of belief of his own self-importance. He searches day and night for the right spell that will destroy Apep.
First, they must get all twelve of the nightwalkers working together. They already have the vampires, druids, demons, shadowdellers, Lycanthropes and Mistrals working with them. They just can't see them yet. Centuries ago, Apep cursed them so they would not know of each other's existence and therefore, they could never band together to destroy him. So far the Politic have drawn together the night angels, the bodywalkers, and the Djinn. They just need to convince the mystics, the phoenixes and the deadly wraiths to join forces to save the world. Since none of these groups socialize outside of their own groups, it will not be easy to convince them of the necessity to band together to save the world.
As a self-imposed penance, Kamen has offered to approach these groups and beg for their assistance. None of them welcome outsiders and the wraiths, in particular, can and will kill with only a touch of their hand, and sometimes just for fun. It is more than just luck that Kamen finds, Geneviéve, a half-human, half-wraith who has been ostracized all her life by her own people. She is willing to help Kamen convince the wraiths and the others to join the Politic against Apep.
The more time they spend together, the more Kamen realizes that Viève attracts him like no woman has done in all his reincarnations. Where once Kamen would have believed that this woman would have been his reward for his greatness, a demoralized and repentant Kamen doesn't believe he is worthy of a woman like Viève. Will he toss away love simply because he no longer feels worthy of such a gift?
THOUGHTS: Yeah, yeah big epic battle. All major characters risk their lives. Some will die. The battle was important and the big payoff of the series, but I was enthralled here with the budding relationship between Kamen and Viève. Kamen has been brought to his knees and made humble after realizing his mistakes to the Politic Bodywalkers and their allies and to the world in general. In prior stories, he attacked Menes and he even allowed Leo to be tortured and didn't care. He walked away from Leo's pain and fear because it meant nothing to him. He knows what is happening is all his fault and has come to realize that he followed Odjit blindly because he liked the power and the privilege and he was allowed to do what he wanted which was to study magic and become even more powerful. So we shouldn't like Kamen or root for his HEA, or at least not the Kamen we first met in Forbidden.
It is the new, repentant Kamen that we are first learning to like and then to love. Mostly I liked him for his treatment of Viève. As a half-breed, Viéve was unwanted and barely tolerated by the wraiths and this fact was impressed upon her often by all the wraiths, including her own mother. When they meet, Viève has no self-esteem. She believes everything she has ever been told, that she is unwanted, that she causes problems, that she has no value, that she will never have a mate or be wanted by a male. It is Kamen who begins to convince Viève that whatever the wraiths might think of her, she has value and would fit anywhere, whether it would be with the humans or with the Politic bodywalkers and other nightwalkers. He even yells at her when she starts to devalue herself in front of him until she begins to understands that the nightwalkers she is working with appreciate her and value her working with them. We see her start to blossom due to Kamen's attention to her.
Kamen is amazed by his own desire for Viève since he hasn't been interested in sex this reincarnation and barely had any interest in his last one. So much so that he first accuses her of bespelling him to desire her. It is particularly interesting to see that as Kamen helps build Viève's self-esteem, through his words and his desire for her, and the more she becomes confident, the more Kamen feels that he doesn't deserve her or her love. He has come to despise himself and his past so much so that even when the Politic try to say they forgive him after all he does to right his wrongs, we find it is Kamen who can't accept forgiveness for his actions.
I have only read one of the Nightwalkers books and the World of Nightwalkers series. For those who have read both series, there is time spent with each of the couples from the original Nightwalker series so there is a little reunion with these favorite characters.
There is an epic battle and death and destruction will occur. It will not be 100 percent win-win for the good guys. But in this story, I found myself amazed to come to like Kamen as much as I did and his relationship with Viève.
Received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I got the impression that even though this was book #5, I did not have to read it in order, but maybe I should have. SO MANY characters were introduced in the first two chapters that I forgot who the MCs were. I needed a diagram to remember who had what role, what language which person spoke, where each person came from, and who they were with. TOO much. This was not for me. Too many things to remember. I felt as if there would be a test in the end.
The narrator also read too fast as if she had somewhere to be and FAST. The story is written in multiple POVs and the narrator does not change her tone any character. I had no idea if the characters changed by her monotone. Good luck.
Reading Nightwalker by Jacquelyn Frank is a bittersweet experience. It is the finale to a long and fascinating journey that covers three series, several years, many cultures and some truly wonderful characters. It began in 2006 with the story of Jacob and Bella and ends now with last installment in The World of Nightwalkers series.
Because of the epic scope of Nightwalker and my personal journey with all of the Nightwalkers, I'm going to bring up a little bit of history. Many years ago, well, maybe 6 or 7 year ago, I picked up a novel by a new-to-me author. Elijah by Jacquelyn Frank. To me, Elijah was original, fresh, and fascinating. Emphasis on original. When I realized that Elijah was #3 in the series, I circled back to the bookstore for books 1 and 2. Since then I've devoured The Nightwalkers, The Shadowdwellers, and The World of Nightwalkers series as well as several other books by Jacquelyn Frank.
When I started this journey, my book exposure was limited to what was on the shelf. Other than for work, I was not online at all. Now I've broadened my book exposure by shopping online and connecting with other readers and authors online. 6 or 7 years later, I still say that the Nightwalkers series remain among the most original paranormal romance books that I have read.
What is original about them? That is easy. The paranormal beings. Ms. Frank's treatment of the more commonly fictionalized Demons, Vampires and Lycanthropes is unique. Add Shadowdwellers, Druids, Mistrals, Night Angels, Djinns, Bodywalkers, Phoenixes, Wraiths, and Mysticals to the mix and you have a truly wonderful, complex and creative world. 12 races - did I get them all?
So, as I said before, Nightwalker is the grand finale (sniff). With some trepidation I read it. Finales are often disappointing as it is very difficult to wrap up an epic adventure without being anti-climatic. But if you are a fan of these series, I don't think you will be disappointed. Nightwalker is finely balanced between the reunion with favorite characters from other books, the final showdown with the big bad and the love story of Kamen and Viève.
Viève is a Wraith. Perhaps you have heard that wraiths can kill with a touch and they do so often enough to make them the most hated of the Nightwalker races. However Viève is a half-breed. Her father was human, but she was raised by her mother. She knows only that the Wraiths detest half-breeds. She has lived her life among people that shun her and would prefer she was never born.
Kamen is a Bodywalker, the race that is the focus of The World of Nightwalkers series. The race is split into those that ancient souls share the body they inhabit with the original soul (Body Politic) and those that suppress the original soul (Templars). Kamen comes from the Templars. So right off you know he is not a good guy. But Kamen has come to realize he has done some terrible things, including inadvertently loosing the god Apep into an unprepared world. He truly wants to set things right.
Kamen and Viève play the lead role in attempting to bring the 12 Nightwalker races together. It is believed that they will need all 12 races in order to defeat Apep. So, here we have the formerly evil Kamen uniting with Viève, a representative of the evil Wraiths. Both feel unworthy, either due to past actions or circumstance of birth. Yet they undertake a momentous task. If they fail, Apep's threat to the world will become a reality. This is my favorite part of the book - the fact that the 'unworthy', 'evil' characters play such a key role for the good guys! And by the way, saving earth is not the only thing on their agenda. They tend to sizzle a little when they get together. You know what I mean.
Speaking of characters, Apep is really something else. He has a terrible god-complex. Well, I suppose that is okay, he is a god. But talk about self-centered, egotistical and maniacal. It was actually funny, if disturbing!
Some of my favorites from the previous series are back in Nightwalker: Noah, Jacob, Bella, Sagan, and Kat. Also Ram and Docia, whose story was my favorite in the current series. It is not a re-union of all the former characters. That would just be overdoing it. But the few that are there bring back nice memories. And they each have a role to play in the battle against Apep.
I've said that the originality of these series is what I appreciate about them. However, Ms. Frank's talent as a writer is what kept me coming back for book after book. Her beautiful writing sets her apart from other writers in the paranormal romance genre. I tend to want to read every word, rather than miss a passage of lovely prose. She exquisitely combines action and emotion to create a plot that whisks you away from your own life, if only for a short while.
From my perspective of having read the three related series, it is difficult to imagine what it would be like to read Nightwalker without the benefit of the background I've gotten from the books. I suspect such a reader would feel that something is missing.
However, if you have read all three series, or even just The World of Nightwalkers series, I truly think you will enjoy the ending in Nightwalker. The perfect combination of memories, action, and beautiful romance lead to a satisfying conclusion of this wonderful adventure.
NetGalley ARC. Review originally published at Ramblings From this Chick.
Jacquelyn Frank was one of my firsts. A true love and an instant buy, her and I have seen some rocky times through some rough books lately and, unfortunately, Nightwalker was no different.
The final book in the Nightwalker series that I have loved and followed religiously, I could not get my footing while reading it. I made sure to not start any other series so as to give the book and author the respect they deserve but I was still left with a perplexing and unwelcome feeling of overall confusion.
The story revolves around Kamen, the Bodywalker and doom-bringer for lack of better description, and Genevieve (or Vieve) the half-blood Wraith. This was some of the weirdest pacing in a romance novel that I have experienced thus far. Due to mystical powers and abilities, days seem to take weeks and my time table was completely thrown off. Each time that I was brought back to Earth by a reminder that it had only been one or two days, I had to take a step back, remember what had happened so far, readjust my time clock and my opinions of characters and their opinions and it went on and on like this. Surreal and confusing.
I'd say that the first 3/4 of the book felt like it was going at a snails pace but, honestly, it takes place over one day. I put the book down and picked it back up several times because it was just exhausting observing and experiencing all of the situations and emotions that all of these characters were working through in a matter of hours.
Once you get to day two, or the last 1/4 of the book, everything moves at hyper speed. Issues are immediately resolved, love is declared, and peace is obtained...but remember, because of the strange pacing, this all happens in a matter of hours. I'm left feeling like I just read the longest novella of all time. But it wasn't...but it was...but it wasn't?
Back to the actual characters and story: if you're a human or Nightwalker on this planet, you've gotta love Vieve. Tenacious, ignorant, brave, and above all, open-minded, she is the epitome of all things heroine and wonderful. If you can ignore that it takes two days for her to fly from "I don't even know you" to "I love you and can't live without you" and just enjoy the ride, she's quite wonderful.
The strong silent type is seen and loved in our man Kamen. He's a bit of a martyr, but aren't they all? Tall, dark, and handsome, it's easy to write love for him and his glistening pectorals. An absolute favorite scenario of mine for any hero is the "loss of control due to overwhelming love and passion for his heroine" moment and Kamen is no exception. Want a little taste? Mister control is denying himself his most coveted of all things: Vieve. His body and mind, however, are disagreeing with this notion and we get this little scene of wonderfulness and glory:
"There's no spell! I swear, I would never do that!" "So this is naturally occurring? I find that hard to believe. I am not a man prone to lust and that is what I feel when you are near me like this. Unadulterated lust." She gasped when his tongue came to touch the soft side of her neck and then licked its way slowly upward. When he reached her hair he cursed sharply, "You even fucking taste like strawberries."
*fans self*
Oh Kamen, you glorious and masterful Bodywalker. How I wish I had more time to love you.
Alright, lets wrap this thing up.
I liked but did not love the book. A strange pace and some weird and abrupt conclusions that all seemed like they could have had at least another chapter or two just to themselves made for an out of body experience where I am moving slowly and the world is racing around me. While I wish this could have been a 700 page book, I will say that I am just grateful for the story being told in general.
Favorite scene: The flash to the myriad couples throughout the house and how they are dealing with their individual relationships the night before the big battle. So much fun to revisit some of these guys!
Favorite quote: "Exactly. I've done nothing to deserve it. So if I am shunned, the fault lies with them, not me." Such a simple statement of fact from our heroine but it changed me in that moment and it changes the entire pace of the novel. Lovely.
***I was given a free copy from NetGalley for an honest review***
I'm jumping into this World of Nightwalkers series at the very end instead of starting from the beginning so I'm going to try very hard to not let my lack of knowledge influence my review. However, it's kind of difficult because for the most part I felt lost trying to follow along. Taking in the story as a whole was too confusing There are so many characters and trying to keep them straight in my mind was difficult. I ended up just shutting down and trying to forget they had a past history, absorbing Kamen and Viève's story and the battle they had with Apep.
All the other characters aside, I enjoyed this book. At first I found it to be a bit dry. I'm not sure if the intent of all the world building in the beginning was intended to bring everybody up to speed of what's happen so far. For someone new to the series, I found it came across as someone has told a story so many times, they have lost their enthusiasm and now was just spewing out history just to get it out of the way. I almost gave up 20% in but pushed through it until finally coming to the meat of the story, Kamen and Viève. I liked and yet was annoyed by them both at the same time. I liked them because these two deserved some happiness in their lives. Viève had been, for her entire life been crapped on by other Wraith's because she was a half-breed Wraith. Kamen screwed the pooch playing on the bad side for so long and is trying to atone for his misdeeds. Two miserable folks finally finding love and acceptance, and coming together, even though it was pretty darn quick! And yet, these very reasons are why I found myself equally irritated. Kamen! Enough with the self-loathing. You screwed up, get over it! And Viève, you girl finally are being treated with respect. Stop acting like a kicked puppy.
Now for the story, the battle and the ending. I enjoyed the whole bringing of all the races together to battle the evil and to triumph over all. It took me a while to get Apep. He's pregnant?! How...? What...? How...?! I did eventually get my AHA! together but until I found out the details, that made absolutely no sense. I do have to say, I did love to hate Apep. He made a great evil being with the whole 'take over the world and kill everybody who gets in the way' mentality. The epic battle did seem a bit deflated, however the journey all the Nightwalkers took to get there was very entertaining. I bet I would have enjoyed it even more if I had previous experiences with all the well established characters. Individually, confusion. However, I do like a variety of paranormal breeds and there was no shortage of them here.
As my first book by Jacquelyn Frank, it wasn't half bad. I'm really looking forward to reading more of her works. I did learn the hard way this is not a series you want to jump into the middle of. The World of Nightwalkers series definitely needs to be read from the beginning because without know everything, a reader will just flounder around trying to puzzle it all together. So if you are picking up Nightwalker as your first book to read, put it down and start from the beginning. I'm positive it will be worth it.

Over the Years we have watched Jacquelyn Frank craft a wonderful world of Demons and Vampires, Lycanthropes and Mistrals, Wraiths and Bodywalkers. Twelve Species of supernatural beings that had been at times at war, at times at peace. For the past few generations due to a curse before their memory, the twelve beings had been divided. Unaware that the others even existed. Six and Six.. They were the Nightwalkers. Finally they have all found a way to be together, to bring an end to the curse, all because of one man, once an enemy..
Kaman is a political refuge. Once second only to the ruler of the Templars (the evil bodywalkers) a division of the bodywalkers that believed it was their right to take over another's body and rule it. He has released an evil god that wants to destroy them all. Finally he has come to his senses. He knows the Templars' way is wrong and he has promised to serve the politics as best he can. Trusted? No way, but he has to try.
Geneviève is a pariah amongst the wraiths, she is an abomination, half human and half wraith. Because of her humanity she has failed in being a wraith, she is abhorred, an embarrassment to her family. All she wants, really wants is to find a place where she can belong. When the powerful bodywalker, Kaman, finds her she is thrilled to have a purpose. To bring the wraiths into the battle on the side of the Nightwalkers. A purpose and worth.. finally. Only the further along she gets with Kaman, the more she realizes that it's not just a purpose and worth she is looking for, she dreams of the man.
Kaman and Genvieve together are working on uniting the Nightwalkers, bringing them all together is the only way to beat Atep. Only the wraiths at best are sneaky at worst, they are minions of Atep. Can they convince the wraiths to commit? Can they convince the Nightwalkers to believe? They both are fighting their own personal demons and have discovered that together they might actually succeed.
Ms. Frank, kind of threw in the kitchen sink on this book. I enjoyed it but I felt like she just wanted to get it all done. Like ok, I ran out of ideas but I really, really need to end this series.. That being said, it detracted from a really good storyline. Kaman's redemption has been an ongoing thing in the past few books and to find him in a place where he can actually be in love? To accept that he is loved? It's truly wonderful only those moments were stolen with the jumble of other information that was thrown in.
There are species of Nightwalkers that we hadn't really even met yet and they came, then left for whatever reason. They fought in the great battle but I got the feeling that they were superfluous.. They had to be there to go with the over all arc but pffft... Now I could be wrong and Ms. Frank may be back with more Nightwalker stories, I hope so, but if not.. the arc itself has been finished. The Nightwalkers, reunited, more or less.. and the most recent great evil has been defeated. We shall see what comes next.

In a Flutter: A lovely meeting with our fav couples Fluttering Thoughts: Worldbuilding: The World of Nightwalkers has a rich, delicious world, full of all kinds of fun elements – bodywalkers, djinns, lycans, vampires, witches, shadowdellers, pheonixes aaaand so on, that’s how rich it is! – that now come together to fight with the imp god Apep. It was a delight. Characters: This is the love story of Kamen, the templar doing his best to undo the harm he has caused (unwittingly or intentionally), and a sweet little half-wraith, Vieve. Both were interesting characters, dealing with big issues of self-worth, and the way they supported each other and helped each other through some of those issues was touching and made them a great pair. I loved their chemistry and their one on one was passionate, hot and awesome. And we encounter the virgin trope in this romance, though it’s not heavily played upon. That made the whole romance even sweeter; I don’t normally respond well to sweet for some reason, but here it really worked for me. The appearances of other characters we already know was great, and the villain, Apep, got some page-time too. Enough to make you want him dead, on a couple of tangents, if you didn’t already after reading the rest of the series. Plot: The romance arc was of the slow-burn kind, virgin trope, alpha male of course, sweet and tender and awesome. The story outside of the romance involved all the couples we’ve met so far, some from other tangents too – in all, representatives of all the 12 Nightwalkers – coming together to fight against the nutjob god Apep. The read had a fast pace, but not the agitated action as much as preparing for a final showdown kind of vibe. I enjoyed that, and enjoyed the getting together of the Nightwalkers for this purpose. Writing: Third person, past tense narrative, mostly Kamen and Vieve’s POV, with a few inserts from other characters where they were due. I liked the writing, and both Kamen and Vieve’s voices. Curb Appeal: Okay-ish cover, hooking blurb – all in all a good presentation, though the fact I’ve read the rest of the series was the actual “selling point”, I’ll admit.
It was a good read, it brought a good sense of closure to the Apep story and I liked the fact that the Nightwalkers had to unite in order to get things done. While I wouldn’t have missed out on reading Nightwalker, I was invested in the read and really enjoyed the romance story, I admit I wasn’t as taken with this novel as I was with others in the series. I loved the first one the most, Forbidden. The World of Nightwalkers presents a very richly-built world, good romance stories and some great fighting too. I recommend the series as a whole, and I’m quite edified that whatever Jacquelyn Frank writes is most definitely worth the read :)
In this the fifth book in the World of Nightwalkers, Jacquelyn Frank brings all of the characters from her previous books together for this final saga. She also introduces a new love story between two totally unexpected characters, Kamen the Bodywalker and Genevieve the hybrid Wraith! Ms. Frank creates a world within a world that functions side by side with the human race. The twelve Nightwalker races must find a way to work together if they are to save not only themselves but also humankind. The only problem is six of the races are hidden from the other six by a curse and a way must be found for the twelve to communicate and lift the curse. If not, the world will be destroyed by the Imp god, Apep.
Feeling guilty for his part in the release of Apep, Kamen sets out to find the last three Nightwalker races and form an alliance. The first group he encounters is the Wraith, the most deadly. He meets Genevieve a hybrid wraith and cannot understand the feelings she is causing him to feel. Kamen has not felt sexual attraction in this life. He is a scholar and dedicated to his mission, all he has to do is convince his body and mind of these facts!
It is hard being part of a race but excluded at the same time. Vieve has all the powers of a Wraith but does not look or feel like one. She appears more human and because of this she is made fun of while living with her family but is treated more like a servant. When she meets Kamen, her attraction to the Bodywalker is overwhelming. Her race do not touch or give compliments, they get together to procreate only. So when she is sent with Kamen as the representative of her race, she is stunned. This is a unique and totally absorbing paranormal romance that you will not want to miss. Find out if the Nightwalkers save the world!

I made a tactical error. I actucally belived it when the describtion said it could be read as a stand-alone. Well, in theory it really could be taken as a stand-alone but lots of things didn't make sense and for someone who doesn't know a single information about this universe it's confusing as hell. Way too many names and different breeds.
While they were a LOT of points of view the whole book was focused mostly on Kamen and Vieve.
Kamen somehow brought the imp god Apep back into the world and Apep is pure evil. Kamen spent a year trying to find a way to send him back where he came from. By almost accident he found a clue - he has to unite all twelfe breeds/nations.
While doing so he meets Vieve. A wratith half-breed ridiculed by others. Kamen finds out that's not like the other wraith. She's got feeling, blushes and loves gardening.
She travels with him and those to are good to each other. He makes her stand up for herself and she brings out his softer side.
When it's time for the big final battle they are prepared. They've got the spells ready, the battle plan is solid. Altough it's not going according to what they had planned, the battle ends with victory. It was unsatisfying and so predictable.
Kamen and Vieve knows each other for three freaking days and they already love each other and can't be without the other one. Really? Three days. It takes me longer to decide which shoes I want to buy!
Maybe if I read the other books in the series I would have enjoyed this one more. But I didn't and probably won't.

Kamen is a Bodywalker, one of the ancients who are reborn into a human hosts after another. He is also a prisoner of his own kind and in his own guilt because he is the one who released Apep, the deadly god who threatens the existence of their world. Now, he has possibly found the way to defeat Apep but he will first have to convince the other nations of the Nightwalkers to set aside their centuries-old conflicts and work together. If he cannot, then he will fail and all will be lost. Kamen makes the first contact with a beautiful, spectral, fine beauty named Geneviève. Part Wraith and part human, Viève shares the hunger for atonement and for connection. Viève’s touch holds the touch of death yet the touch of life at the same time and it makes Kamen feel more alive than he has ever felt .They find comfort together and they also find they want each other- the chemistry between them is very strong. They want to lose themselves together but they cannot lose sight over the fact that they to need to unite all the Nightwalkers and fast because Apep is ready for war. Nightwalker tells the story that we the readers have been waiting for since Jacob came out. It is such a fantastic story. I enjoyed reading Kamen and Viève story of lust, love and redemption. Kamen is dealing with the guilt he has felt for so many years yet he finds a way to do what he needs to. He doesn’t lie , does what he needs to and yet finds his woman who is just what his soul cries for. Vieve has always been looked down upon because she is a halfbreed, and finds acceptance and understanding in Kamen. This book answers many questions that have been swirling about . Every character I have ever read about from her paranormal romances makes an appearance or gets a mention here. There were a few things I felt could have been addressed better but hey, that is ok this is still a very good story. I believe there is a spin off story in the works based off how this ends.
I have not read any of the other Nightwalker books, so I had to read and absorb the first few chapters to get a gist of the characters. But once I got past understanding the paranormal abilities and histories of each of the characters, I really got dragged into the story.
The story revolves around Kamen, a Nightwalker trying very hard to redeem his past. The only solution is to unite all the Nightwalker groups to overpower the imp god who is about to cause havoc on the earth.
The story is paranormal, filled with magic and mystery. There is action and war that picks up the pace in the story. But what I enjoyed most was the love affair that woke the main character from his self imposed suffering and gave him hope for the future.
A passionate story that takes your imagination to a whole other world where demons, dragons and all things mystical exist...along with pain, heartache, friendship and love. A story of redemption and hope for a better future...with a hint of love!
I am intrigued now to read about the other Nightwalkers now, Ms Frank you have a new fan!

The World of Nightwalkers Series comes to an exciting end in Jacquelyn Frank 's series finale, Nightwalker. An epic battle arises and all the previous characters in the series make an appearance. It was great to get updates on all the couples. Nightwalker was full of action, danger, excitement and hot romance. I loved the character growth Kamen experienced throughout the series and Geneviève brought out the best in him. If you haven't read this series I recommend The World of Nightwalkers Series for paranormal romance lovers looking for a unique and well written series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I'd suggest reading the books in order. If you're a fan you'll enjoy the series conclusion in Nightwalker.

What a beautiful cover. I find Jacquelyn Frank to be a wonderful story teller and enjoyed her story arc for the series. Such fantastic descriptions. I have greatly enjoyed the other novels in the series, and this was nice to finally see the dramatic grand finale. The first two chapters had a lot of info dumping, which made for some rough going. But once through that, the story flew. Kamen and Gevieve are one hot couple. It was also great to see many of the characters from previous books again.
I’m not sure this would make a great novel as a stand alone. Reading the previous in the series really helped fill in the gaps. So, I do not recommend this as an entry into the Nightwalker series, but it’s a nice conclusion. Overall great series. If you've read the others, then you can't miss this one.
This series was able to unify many amazing characters from different books written by Frank. I loved that. I was really excited with the idea of 6 new & unknown nightwalker species and getting to know them all. Although the original 6 will always be my absolute favorite. While I enjoyed this new series, it felt a bit lacking next to the original Nightwalkers series.
I was glad to read Kamen's story. I knew it would be hard for him to redeem himself, but I think he did a great job. I loved how he changed completely once Geneviève appeared in his life. They made a great couple, I really liked their story.
I'm rating the book with 3 stars because the ending of the series should have been more exciting, with bigger things going on. The ending felt rushed and too easily gained. While I liked how everything developed, I expected more. I will miss these characters still.
The Nightwalker world spans multiple series and with Kamen's story it all comes to an end. I admit to being a bit disappointed and although JF does a great job bringing Kamen from a bad guy to a good guy there were just some major missing components for me.
I found that although the sex sizzle was there between the H/h I didn't feel any other depth of connection. Our heroine just seemed too young, too naive...and just not right for him, all in all a bit awkward. The great epic battle was a "lunchbox let down" ..all built up but just didn't have the big bang that I was waiting for. ...
Over all I felt the novel was a bit rushed but it was great to catch up with characters from the other series and get a sense of finality to the story. 3 star read for me.
Nightwalker, 5th book of The World of Nightwalker, is an amazing read. I was a bit confused on the first few chapters of the book, but as the story goes, I got the hang of it. The characters from the other books in the series are present, but this book focuses on Kamen's story. In this book, I learn a lot of things about this guy and fell in love with him.. =) Anyway, the story is good. With all the things that will happen, I was intrigued and kept me in a suspense mood. Loved it!
