Rika's Marauders #2

Rika Redeemed

Rate this book
Rika is a Marauder.

After years of drifting aimlessly after the war with the Nietzscheans, she has finally found a home with the Marauders—a mercenary outfit comprised of Genevian veterans.

Back in the war, Rika hated her government, but always fought for the woman next to her. Now she fights for her teammates in Basilisk, an elite spec-ops team that takes on the toughest missions.

When General Mill, CO of the Marauders comes to Rika with a top-secret solo operation, she wants to turn it down. But the mission comes with a chance to save Silva, her old team leader from the Nietzschean war.

Without team Basilisk, without the Marauders, Rika must stand on her own against all odds and save the woman who once saved her.

Malorie Cooper likes to think of herself as a dreamer and a wanderer, yet her feet are firmly grounded in reality.

A ‘maker’ from an early age, Malorie loves to craft things, from furniture, to cosplay costumes, to a well-spun tale, she can’t help but to create new things every day.

A rare extrovert writer, she loves to hang out with readers and people in general. If you meet her at a convention, she just might be rocking a catsuit, cosplaying one of her own characters, or maybe her latest favorite from Overwatch!

She shares her home with a brilliant young girl, her wonderful wife (who also writes), a cat that chirps at birds, a never-ending list of things she would like to build, and ideas…

Well, it got kinda boring...

I finished this book, but won't go to the next one. For some reason, it felt longer than the first one (although that one was almost double in length).

Rika is nice and I like where the plot is going. The build-up to the next book is pretty good as well. And I definitely like the side characters, they're fun.

Frankly, if I was in a different mood, I'm pretty sure I would have gone on with this series. It's a case of 'it's not you, it's me'.

Who knows, maybe I'll get back to this series at one point. For now though, I'll go on with whatever next series I decide to try.

I feel a book funk on the horizon...

Absolutely in the "can't put down" category

Masterfully done.

Few, after escaping enslavement, have the courage to voluntarily enter it again - yet this is precisely what Rika does. The undercover op places her in a situation where she is once again chipped and subject to Discipline, as determined by her 'master'.
Rika thinks she has a solid plan to execute an extraction of a fellow mech, a woman who was like a mother to her during the Nietzschean War. Yet just as her op begins, she finds her adversary has known of her infiltration all along.

How will she rescue Silva, and Silva's daughter? Worse, she discovers an army of mechs, all chipped and subjugated. How can she carry out her extraction yet leave her fellow warriors enslaved to a sociopath?

This third book in the Rika series is even better than its predecessors.

I always know it's a good book if I find I'm outpacing myself while reading: I end up reading so fast I begin skimming, simply because the suspense is killing me and I have to know NOW what happens next.

This book fell solidly into that category.
I had to forcibly stop myself, and go back to where the book began to pick up speed, so that I wouldn't miss anything.

I hope you'll love Rika Redeemed as much as I did. This is a book I know I'll read again.

Author M.D. Cooper brings us the next adventure for the mech woman Rika as she and her team are on a rescue mission. This rescue mission comes with it's own complications as near the end and the hand off Rika runs into her old team leader Sliva. Once she dose everything begins to change as they hand over the girl that they rescued to her father who is a dictator and who the Marauders are asked to take down not too soon after Rika returns to Captain Ayer's ship. From there things only go from bad to worse as she and her team fake her killing them and steal two ships in order to personally take on the job of killing the dictator. This is a very captivating book and Rika is one not to be missed, I highly recommend this book to all science fiction fans. And I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A sci-fi story full of robots, intrigue, and a cast that manage to come out on top despite some of the the most horrible things imaginable happening to them.

If you've read the first novel and it's prequel then you know what you're in for. The series is more of the same with a great short adventure, harsh trials for the heroes, and emotional reveals around every turn.

I am loving this series so far and can't wait to continue it.

The one issue I have with the book is the final few pages. The story immediately begins to lay hints for the next book in the series but it feels rushed and far too brief. Honestly I'd be a bit more mad if I didn't already have the next book ready and waiting for me.

This series is a great one for people who like sci fi and to have their characters a bit more emotionally well rounded.

Redeemed Indeed!

Rika and the crew are on a mission to rescue a little girl named Amy, and return her to her father. Amy is sort of mysterious, but one of the crew, Leslie, gains her confidence, and they learn that her father is the powerful man named Stravos, who controls the Politica.

Another mercenary group is trying to capture Amy to get the reward for her return. Rika spots another mech who is the same model as Rika. Does she know her? Will they meet again?

This book is much lighter in tone than the previous two, as we get some fun banter among the crew, and some back stories on each. The dresses that Amy designs for disguises made me laugh out loud.

After many twists and surprises, Rika is indeed "redeemed" and again a hero. We even get a hint that her next mission could involve the "Intrepid" and Tanis. Stay tuned.

This is a fast-paced shootem' up with a deepening storyline and nice surprises. My favorite twist is having an AI (Artificial Intelligence) placed right into Rika's mech body, expanding her powers and adding an interesting new character. My one regret is that Cooper doesn't give his readers enough credit and tends to over-explain things, which causes a blip on my "readar" screen and redirects my attention. And while I'm niggling I'll add that there are enough trite descriptions and phrases to trip me up as I read as well as the over-use of the word chuckle. Badass soldiers shouldn't chuckle. Sci-fi as a whole needs tighter editing. But it's too late to change a book that's already published so I'll just add that I've already downloaded Rika #3 and look forward to jumping in. Don't let my quibbling dissuade you, Cooper is a good storyteller.

Really starting to enjoy Cooper's Rika series. This was another excellently written and paced book. While reading the first book in the series (and the prequel as well) would be handy, one could just start in the series with this book. The same excellent, engaging characters, and we get to spend more time with them and get introduced to a new AI character (kind of setting up the next book in the series).

The ending was a little more abrupt than the last book in the series, but still did a great job drawing all the major conflicts of the story to a close. The language, violence, and some of the subject matter in the book are definitely aimed for a more mature audience (not really YA material here).

All in all, though, a great read and excellent story.

A really good read Andy left you feeling good believable storyline well done

I'm definitely a fan of sci-fi and fantasy this is clearly straight up sci-fi and the universe is written within has been a lot of fun to read the various books attached to it. The characters maintain their personas which sometimes you don't see but this author has done a good job weaving a good narrative definitely recommend this book but if you haven't read the start of it the Rika series of books to stand on their own but you need to read it from the beginning of the series of this character I'm reading them in the middle of the Orion war which is tied to it

Another Hit

Rika book 2 was another hit, she had a bit more suspense filled moments and I am glad to see Hammerfall being back at full strength. Kelly I feel can possibly help Rika feel more like her old self... provided I guess Kelly herself gets a little help from her friend Rika. Also if Kelly provides support the things that Team Basilisk can accomplish.... Looking forward to reading the next book.

Amazing series and universe! I love that the characters are so believable and flawed. It gets a little odd with all of the technology and it's very detailed descriptions, but once you figure it out it makes it worthwhile. I have read - and now bought - all the books that even touch on the Aeon 14 universe!

Reading this one out of order, but doesn't detract from it too much knowing future events :) Another strong story, a little darker in tone as they go up against a nasty government and meet old friends. Good action and suspense, and we get to see the characters, especially Rika, grow quite a bit in this story in a believable and inspirational way.

Well woven story

Really enjoyed the way good and evil do the tango in this story. Great cast of nearly human characters expose their humanity in a conflict with an inhuman human. The author not only makes sense of this, but crafts an engaging story with several intense conflicts. Highly recommended.

Another great read in the story of Rika the mech warrior. Although I'm listening to an audio version that is well performed and narrated, the story is crisp, with interesting characters that have been developed over the two books that I've read thus far I've got the next one loaded and am looking forward to another great listen!

So much happening with Rika and the crew. She finds old teammates that are now forced to work for the other side. In the end it all works out and I can't wait to get the next one to see what happens next!!

Getting better & better

More action and greater tech as Rika continues to kick ass and take names all while freeing other enslaved mechs and bringing down an empire. A great read for military sci-fi fans. Highly recommended.

Best One Yet

I really enjoyed this one a lot. Of the Rika books I’ve read so far, this is my favorite. A lot of action, but it’s really the characters that have got a hold of me up.

Very cool.

Rika is an amazing soldier and woman, not allowing her mech side to define who she is. What I love most is that she takes no bull and is so incredibly strong inside. The storyline is top notch and the fighting is too.

Some people are just bad… and need to be stoped, no matter the cost, no matter the consequences.

Some people are strong enough to do what the rest of us just can’t. For these few, the road through hell is paved with good intentions…

I like the characters and the plot. It is a good read. I'm not good at words and do not like the 20 word requirement

Rika the Redeemed

I like the fast action butt kicking Rika. If I had the opportunity to travel in space I would like her to be part of the crew.
