Robin Love's father has been missing in action for over a year. A true proud army brat at almost eighteen, Robin already knows how to be strong and how to be her brother’s only family. Above all, she knows to pretend everything will be fine. Only, things aren’t fine. Robin discovered that her brother will get dumped in foster care when she leaves for college. So, she’s convinced him to run away with her instead.
They’ve vowed to stay together at all costs. Even if it means stealing food out of hotels, sleeping in the car, and lying about everything. Even if it means working as a secret nanny for a jerk rock star who only cares about his band. And even if it means trusting strangers while she formulates her plan. She never expects her lies to lead them to true friends and a real home. Nor does she expect to be attracted to the boss she's growing to hate, all because he refuses to act like the honorable and 'good father' she misses desperately.
But secrets like a runaway girl and a baby hiding with a famous band can’t be kept secret for long. Robin is also not the only one telling lies. When an accidental kiss—a kiss that never should have happened—threatens Robin’s ability to keep her brother, Robin will do anything to correct her mistakes. But this time, to save her brother, the cost might be her heart.

this was so refreshing ❤️ I even felt my heart flutter and get the butterflies when I read this story! This story isn't just about love, it's about friendship, sacrifices, hardships, and family. Seriously, Anne Eliot nailed it with this one! I can't wait to start book 2 tomorrow!
Loved this rockstar romance story! The characters of Robin and Sage, a brother and sister, are so sweet. Robin’s almost eighteen and she thinks she can get custody of her brother to save him from going into foster care as her dad is MIA. She's landed a job interview a long way from home but everything is going terribly wrong. She lands a crazy temp job as a nanny to a member of a rock band called Garderobe (you know what this means if you're an Anne Eliot fan!!!). Royce is far from a good dad on the surface, but we eventually learn why but it drives Robin crazy when she's missing her own dad so much. You'll fall in love with the secondary characters not to mention the entire band! One kiss between Robin and Royce creates a firestorm of publicity neither of them want, which shreds Robin's reputation and reveals her whereabouts and status as a runaway. I love how the story is like a modern fairy tale, but that it’s also about friendship, about what family is and how far you would go to save the people you love. I can’t wait to read more of this series! Next book, please, Ms. Eliot!
Loved this story for so many reasons. It's a fantasy fairy tale with beautiful layers of depth and complexity.
It's about a strong girl, Robin Love, who takes the leap to run away and save her brother from foster care, all the while being sad and worried about their father who is missing in action. I live near Fort Carson in a military town, and brave teens and military families like Robin are all around. I can see someone really doing what Robin did for Sage. She's trying to grow up in a hurry, get a job, get an apartment, and do what's right to keep her family together. It isn't working out as well as she'd imagined because being an adult is not always easy.
But back to the fairy tale. She finds help and lands a job as a nanny to a rock star. Robin can't stand that this guy doesn't want anything to do with his kid, but she keeps a straight face about it because the money they've offered for two weeks is going to be her lifeline. The payout will allow Robin to get an apartment and hire a lawyer to help her get legal custody of her brother.
I can't say more without spoiling the story, but just know that Robin is lying to everyone. The rock band, Guarderobe, is also lying to everyone, and the paparazzi are lying too, and their lies are what almost ruin everything for everyone. This is a delightful page-turner and you're totally invested watching Robin deal with the reality that she could lose Sage for good.
The family that helps Robin is wonderful and the other members of the band are the best. You can't help but fall in love with Mrs. Felix and kind-hearted Gregory, and the support characters in this book will keep you engaged and on your toes. Just when you think you have it dialed in, you go around another curve. I loved that the prequel to this book was Unmaking Hunter Kennedy because I wondered what happened to Vere and Hunter after high school. Now we know. Love the ending - and I can't wait until book two in the series comes out.
I'm amazed that I'm giving an Anne Eliot book only two stars because "Almost" is seriously one of my all time favourite reads! But sadly "The Runaway Girl" just didn't do it for me. I felt that it had missed its potential, there was all the sneaking into hotels that could have been expanded on. The nanny side of things that could have been enhanced but all those couldbe moments were missed in favour of the h internal monologuing about how much she hates the H but that he's soooo hot! ( come on, I know she's meant to be young but sweet Jesus she sounded bloody 12 at times)
And I think she was in a room with him about 4 times in the entire book.....can she really hate him that much when I think he only spoke to her briefly? Then there was the fact of the ending and how he was speaking all that mushy stuff, so over the top it made it incredibly unbelievable! Such a shame!
However I do think that my dislike it more for the characters of this series rather than the author and her writing style, so check out a sample of this one and let me know what you think!
This book Runaway Girl is the first in a series called the Runaway Rockstar Series and it is such a great story and it takes a unique angle on rockstars and the lives they lead behind closed doors. This book by Anne Eliot will make you laugh yet touch your heart in so many ways. The story has a element of many surprises throughout and a group of hot sexy rockstats and the most lovable characters. The main character Robin is an amazingly mature and strong confident female. And her brother Sage is the cutest kid ever! This book is about family and love and trusting your heart! 5 big rockstars!!!!! For more indie book reviews: Myindieauthorfix.com
I feel, and I feel. Feel my heartbeats galloping… Feel my lips swollen and hot. Feel how his hot skin melts against my hands. Feel my shirt hike up, and our bare stomachs touching. Feel the scratch of his beard brushing the tops of my breasts.
What a beautiful story! Before I started reading, I checked the reviews and noted that a fairy tale term was mentoined. I couldn't agree more. This story is magical and so astounding!
Although it wasn't all fluffy I reall enjoyed this book and it's characters. The story was sweet and sometimes a bit bitter. I can't wait for read the next book!
Runaway Girl by Anne Eliot would be a coming-of-age story if the main character, Robin, hadn’t already had to grow up and help parent her younger brother a long time ago. Robin and her younger brother, Sage, are motherless army brats. Their father cherishes and dotes on them when he is home. When deployed, other army families act as guardians. These two kids are strong. Their father has helped them develop an ethic of perseverance. Robin and Sage are wholly empathetic. Their love and dedication to one another gripped my heart. They have the sort of sibling relationship that every parent should desire and foster between their kids.
The members of the band Guarderobe live in a labyrinth of lies. There are lies within the group and loads of lies to the public—especially the paparazzi. It’s the only way to survive life in a fish bowl. They have their own little chosen family comprising of the band, steady girlfriends and a few blood relatives. When Robin lands in Florida, she finds herself in the middle of a Guarderobe crisis. Being a girl wonder with a phenomenally sound foundation, Robin lends a much need hand with the band’s crisis-du-jour. It doesn’t hurt that she has recently becoming acquainted with living a life of lies.
Through this unlikely situation, Robin and the lead singer meet. She finds him equally irresistible and abhorrent. The other band members are a bit easier to like, but they all have their quirks and idiosyncrasies. Robin shows her strength and fortitude through all the band’s chaos as well as her own personal crisis. She brings a bit of normalcy to the group, and even though she is by far the youngest, she feels like the only adult.
While many aspects of the story require a high suspension of disbelief (at least for the adult in me), the story telling draws you into the cocoon of the characters' world. I found the story fun and engaging. I was fully invested in this heartwarming story, and I truly enjoyed Adam and his story. This YA read is about trust, accepting help, and working through problems; it also involves a little romance. The chaste story is perfect for younger readers, and there are some great messages for them. Ms. Eliot creates fantastic characters who are easy to love, and she has developed a fabulous storyline replete with crazy rock band antics, runaways, misguided choices, and safe family influencers. A highly improbably, but creative and romantic, ending leads to a great segue for book two.
What a sweet Rockstar romance, Robin is a real old fashioned sweetheart, just about to turn 18, and has run away with her teenage brother Sage, in the hope that she can get a job and secure full custody of him until her father can be found. The opening chapters of this book had my heart breaking for these two as they struggled on with nobody to look out for them.
In a chance meeting, where Robin shows all her best qualities, she is thrown into the path of Garderobe which only leads to more complications. She is immediately attracted to Royce, but at the same time despises the perceived behaviour of a man shirking his responsibilities.
Sage is adorable, and his enthusiasm and protective behaviour around his sister is so endearing.
I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next instalment!
I like rockstar books and I've read a bunch. They are mostly the same plot line but this one was a bit different and in a good way. Probably the stuff we like about these bad boys is there but the good parts are too. I always love a strong female who is down on her luck but still plucky. That makes this book a hard 4 stars. It got a big wordy in setting up some scenes and I either skimmed or lost interest in too many details. BUT it's rounded up on a 5 star because it is not a cliff hanger but ends ok-ish. The second book (I checked) has a recap so if it takes you awhile to get to second book, the author gives you a summary of book one so you can settle right back into story. Big nice clap to the author!!!!
I don't often read lighter stories, but a couple of chapters into this series and I was hooked. Love Robin and her brother Sage, the military army sub plot was really heart tugging, as well as, I also oved the he conspiracy filled rock star life. The story had a lot if surprises and layers. Royce the bad boy was interesting, and I have a huge crush on Adam, one of the other band members. I'm diving into the next book, and can't believe the book hangover this series is giving me. If you want a true get away read this is it. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
I tried with this one, but the dialogue was a big problem for me; characters rambling on and on for pages at a time saying nothing of note really slowed the story down for me. Some of the things the characters said didn't ring true either - just felt odd to me. It could also benefit from a good proof reader, there were so many silly spelling errors. Ah well, moving on.
Robin is a sweetheart and so is Sage! Royce seems like douche, but the chemistry those two have it soo hot! I loved this story with all its twists and the feelings it gave me! I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Well that took me on a rollercoaster ride. At any given moment I didn't know whether to roll my eyes, sigh with confusion, whimper in distress or sigh in happiness. Such fun.
My thoughts: 1. This is an amazing preview of what's to come. I'm excited to read more on Royce and Robin, at the same time Adam and Eve's story will surely be fun to read.
2. It's not insta love, even at the end, they both admit that they admire each other and are attracted to each other but not really in love yet, I am excited to watch how they fall in love in the next book.
3. The first half was so slow, and the next half was so fast, it was a ride.
4. My favorite character is Angel, he's so pure and kind and good, like a knight in shining armor.
5. Aren't we all a Sage-like fanboy/girl at one point of our lives.
6. The book had many typos but it's understandable.
7. AAAAAAH THE MAKEOUT SCENE IS THE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ONE YET OUT OF ALL THE BOOKS I'VE READ OF HERS.
I'm a big fan of Anne Eliot's books. The first one I ever read was Almost. She had me hooked after that. When I saw this book, Runaway Girl, on Kindle Unlimited was by Eliot, I immediately downloaded it to read. I didn't even read the synopsis at first. I give this one a 3 star rating because it's more like a set-up for the rest of the series. It was good, but I'm looking forward to the second book in this series. This book is a huge lead-in to the next book. This book was my least favorite of her books, but it was still good, and I think the rest in the series will make it worth reading.
The Plot: Robin is a runaway. After her single-parent Special Forces father was reported MIA, her appointed guardian was going to turn Robin and her 13 year old brother over to Child Services. Since Robin's only 17, she wouldn't be able to take custody of her brother and they would be split up. Feeling she has no other option, she whisks her brother off to another state, on the run. They hotel-hop along the way to Florida sneaking meals and living in their van. In Orlando, Robin has a job interview at a big hotel chain. The plan is to get hired at the hotel, earn up a savings, and avoid detection as long as possible until Robin's 18th birthday when she can hopefully hire a lawyer to get legal custody of her brother. Things do not go as planned. She gets wrapped up in the rock-n-roll world of Guarderobe (the band from the book The Unmaking of Hunter Kennedy). Robin had helped out a little old lady and older gentleman is a screaming baby. Little did she know, the two elderly people were wealthy hotel-owners and also relatives of Royce Devlin, the lead singer of Guarderobe, who is thought to be the baby-daddy. The band has had the baby dropped off on them and has no idea how to take care of it. Taken with Robin's personality and knowledge of baby-care, she is more-or-less convinced, despite her trepidation, to work as the band's nanny for the baby until the mother can be found. The band wants to keep all of this under wraps to avoid media coverage, and Robin just wants to avoid any detection as to the fact she's a runaway.
Thoughts: As long as you go into this book keeping in mind that it's not fully in the realm of possibility, then you should like it fine. And I'm okay with that in books as long as I know what I'm going into. This was the case, so I went with it. This book has a lot of lead-ups so we can get to know all the characters, and then a lot of set-ups for the next books. I liked it, but now I'm left hanging for the next book. It finally gets to the "good stuff" so-to-speak, and now you have to wait. The first 30% of the book deals with Robin and Sage, why they're on the run, and some of their misadventure as runaways. We see how they are helped out by the Perino family and get introduced to those characters. Then the next 35% deals mainly with the baby, getting to know the rock-star characters, and Robin trying to convince Royce to own up to the fact that he's a father. The last 35% finally gets into a little romance, reveals some surprises, and then sets up the big plan for the next book. The beginning third and the last third were the more interesting parts of the book. The middle third dragged a bit. It was needed for the story, but wasn't as interesting to me. The occasional overly wordy and raving declarations of how "beautiful" the rock-stars are had me rolling my eyes and shaking my head - that part was very cliche, and I had expected more from Eliot. She usually doesn't write like that.
I had a suspicion that the baby I also figured that to resolve all their problems I think that story line will be interesting to follow in the second book.
Anne Eliot has been on my auto-buy list since I first fell in love with "Unmaking Hunter Kennedy" some years ago. She has the ability to create strong, loveable characters who are going through hardships but still find reasons to persevere, mostly by opening their hearts and learning to trust others to share their burdens. I don't know Anne's personal story, but having dealt with many challenges in my own life, these stories really resonate with me. Her novels are engaging enough that I can easily forgive the grammatical errors that pop up from time to time.
"Runaway Girl" is a wonderful addition to Ms. Elliot's works. I love that we get to see Hunter and Vere again, older but still very much in love. However, I think the new characters really steal the show. Robin, the heroine of the story, often felt almost too stubborn in her quest to deal with her and her brother's issues on her own, but by the end I felt I understood where she was coming from. Royce is similar in his tendency to carry the burdens of the band's problems on his shoulders, and I feel that they have the potential to be a great match, as they learn to lean on each other instead of bearing their, and everyone else's, load alone. That being said, Robin's brother is perhaps my favorite character, his innocence and exuberance providing a necessary levity to what is often a very heavy book.
This book ends in a cliffhanger of sorts. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next novel.
I LOVED this book so much! (I had to stop and re-read The Unmaking of Hunter Kennedy before I continued on since Vere and Hunter are in the story. I wanted to refresh my memory and I loved revisiting those characters again! It's not necessary to read that first, but it was fun to see how the characters have evolved.;)
Robin and Sage are amazing -who could ask for a better sister and brother? My heart hurt for them in their situation (I don't want to include spoilers so I can't be too specific) because they have endured so much and now have serious challenges ahead.
Robin is smart, strong, loyal and has a huge heart. She's willing to do whatever it takes to keep her family together. Her adorable awkwardness is endearing and there are plenty of hilarious moments (and some very swoony ones because ROYCE! ❤️) There's a lot going on in this story that will keep you turning the pages. There's never a dull moment!
The story is so beautifully descriptive I saw it like a movie in my mind. The characters and dialogue were so well written that wish I could have been magically transported into the book because they felt so real to me. This is only the first part of the story and I can't wait to read the rest! I'm totally hooked and in love with these characters! This is definitely going to be a favorite series for me.:)
I can't get that first kiss out of my mind! This was a cool YA---different and longer which I LOVE because it lets you know the characters and stay in the world-I get tired of short reads. And the world of rockstar romance is where I love to be. Robin was a great character-taking care of her brother was what I would have done. So relatable. I liked how it was a romance at first but then you know book two is going to be all about the love story and yay, it's got Royce Devlin's point of view?! Can't wait. I love how he was kind of flawed-a worrier. Loved seeing the characters from Unmaking Hunter Kennedy in this story because I loved that book, and let's face it, I'm in love with Adam Marcus as well and I'm dying for that story. I also loved the Perino family and how they love each other and reached out to these two runaway teens to help them. This felt so real and after you find out why, your heart is crushed for Angel Perino. I don't want to do spoiler but I love the ending and how it twists and turns. Awesome story.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been a while since I've read YA romance or even rock star romance but it's been a fun and light read, perfect for the holidays =) One small downside : everything was completely unrealistic > In short, a light romance but unfortunately nothing more =S
This book... Runaway Girl ran away with my heart. Robin is the character who we all hope we would be should something terrible occur. She's the strong woman who fights to keep her family together even though one of the main puzzle pieces of their family is MIA. Robin does everything she can to keep her brother safe, fed, and loved. I hate to give away too much about the lead fellas in this novel but I loved them all! The band is made up of the extremes: the bad boy, the sweet one, the quiet one.... you end up loving them all! I cheered Robin on and wished for the best HEA a book could close with! I cannot wait for more of this series from Anne Eliot! I want all the band members to have an amazing story like this one!!!
Hey, this is a terrific story. The characters are great. It's infused with tender moments and awe-inspiring sacrifice and courage.
Is this a series? It says Book 1. There better be more. I wouldn't call this a cliffhanger, but holy cow, where's the next one?
A note to the author, this is a great story. I already said that, right? You could be looking at big time success if you would hire an editor or at least get yourself a proof reader. As it is, I can't recommend this book to friends because it is packed with grammar and syntax flaws. Up your professional level with some cleaning up and polish, and you could seriously hit the big time. Best wishes
A great book! Thoroughly enjoyed reading Robin's story and more about the rock band Guarderobe. Funny, heartbreaking and poignant, with great support characters. I recommend reading Unmaking Hunter Kennedy as well! Maybe even before reading this one- not only because it's another great book (years later and I still remember it), but also so you'll have the back story of Hunter and Vere, since there are a good amount of interactions with Vere. There are a number of cliff hangers though. Hoping the second book will be out soon!!!
I wasn't expecting such an engrossing story. It was a good job that I had a little time today because I couldn't put this book down. Robin and Sage's plight captured my heart, probably the military element that tugged on the heartstrings the most. By the time Guarderobe were introduced I was completely engrossed. A truly brilliant story with subplots galore. All of the characters apart from Joanie were a delight. I just loved this book! I can't wait to see what is in store for Robin in the next book. (I hope there's a next book!)
This was a light book to read. But man, I wasn't expecting that much heat! I mean, all of the books I've read by Anne Eliot so far did not include that much...detail... *fans self*. I wasn't as invested as UHK, which had me with so much feels every time I re-read it, but a good book nonetheless.
This book is s delightful farce of what can happen when major real world problems come head to head with a glamorous Rockstar lifestyle. You will be rooting for Robin and Sage who need a soft place to land.
