Just years before America witnessed the turn of the century, the three eldest Stuart children left their home in the hills of Arkansas to pursue their dreams in the land of opportunity. Now they are back for a family reunion at the humble home they left years ago. In an unforeseeable turn of events, their visit is cut short when Lylah and Amos are required to return to the city as the world edges closer to war. Within months they find themselves and their brother Gavin deeply involved in the war efforts, but not in the ways they had ever expected. And as the conditions in Europe worsen, they must face a startling reality: before it's all over, the war could claim the life of one of their own. Will the Stuarts survive these tumultuous times and return to their family safe and sound? Or will World War I forever change the lives they know?
Gilbert Morris was one of today's best-known Christian novelists. He lived in Gulf Shores, Alabama, with his wife, Johnnie. He is the father to Lynn Morris and Alan Morris
I did enjoy the next installment to this saga. One thing I could say about this book in particular, is that you can tell this novel was written by a man because of the continued emphasis on the war, killing, guns, planes, etc. I felt it was a little overdone, but still liked the book and would like to continue at some time to see what happens down the line in the Stuart family!
Pre World War I. President Wilson is in the White House and is reelected on the promise to keep America out of the European War.
This book follows the lives of Owen, Lylah, Amos, and Gavin Staurts.
From the skies to the trench, to France, this book went places. I felt like I was there as soldiers fought the deadliest battle to date.
When Lylah fell in love with a German pilot, who would become the "Red Baron" I got a sense of the turmoil of war. It wasn't pretty or glamorous. It was hell.
I enjoy Morris's book because it leaves me with a sense of history. If we forget what happened in the past, we'll be destined to repeat the mistakes in the future.
I love everything this author wrote. Gilbert Morris was a Master Writer.
This is Book 2 follows the lives of three more of the Stuart family during World War 1, mostly taking place in Europe with the brothers and a sister in different locales.
Two of the Stuarts find love in this book, and while it is a plot line, it's still very subtle. Prayers, God-thinking, and Scripture are dotted throughout this action-packed faith story.
Another book that I read to Diana. We can't do much anymore after her stroke, so I read to her to spend time together. Diana has always loved to have someone to read to her - and I like to do just that.
A continuation of the lives of the Stuart family during the WWI time frame.
Second book in the series and even less engaging than the first. I loved these books as a kid, but as an adult there’s too much implausibility and too little character development.
It is so wonderful to read a story of Real life without having to read every sordid movement. Mr. Morris also writes about the work of the Lord as it is in real life without making The Gospel sound like a fairy tale. Many grapple with Jesus before seeing and acknowledging He is Lord.
Excellent Historic Fiction. Just the way I like them. Good story with plenty of insite into the start of the First World War, from a person perspective.
