The story takes place on a ship in the West Indies. Cheney and Shiloh are on their honeymoon. They arrive at an island where they are forced to remain because of an outbreak of a deadly and highly contagious disease. Cheney is a Dr and knows she must stay and help the islanders and the ship's crew who become ill. Little do they know that Shiloh's cousin, who hates Shiloh, owns a plantation on the island. This produces a conflict. Will they ever reconcile? Will Shiloh's cousin ever accept the fact that he is not the legitimate heir to the Winslow fortune?

I was addicted to the Cheney Duvall MD series by Gilbert and Lynn Morris and was so upset when the 7th book ended. Then, i found this book which is the second series but is not considered the "Cheney Duvall" series due to her character getting married. One could easily pick this book up and understand without reading the previous 7. The book is definatley slower than the others, lacking the usual excitement, but has great imagery and detail making it an good read.

This was a great first book to a trilogy.

Cheney and Shiloh have just gotten married and are on a ship board honeymoon. Everything seems to be going well, until a mysterious illness quarantines the couple on an island.

What I found most interesting about this book was Cheney and Shiloh worked together in order to help the people on the ship who were sick. Also, the setting of the ship was interesting.

We also have a man named Bain Winslow, trying to ruin Cheney. When his plan doesn't work out like he thought it would, he holds a grudge against Cheney.

This whole bbook was entertaining and I want to find the other two sometimes in the future!

I read the whole of the Dr. Cheney series as well as this series and I loved them both. Of course, some of the books better than the others, but I especially liked the series after Dr. Cheney and Shiloh get married, which this is a part of.

Lynn and Gilbert write very vivid stories. The characters come alive and the scenes I am able to jump into. This is series is especially that way. It takes place on an island and I can just feel and see myself there.

(3.5 stars rounded to 4). It was very interesting to learn how much Cheney Duvall was able to do with the medical knowledge available to her back then. I enjoyed the book, but it is very unevenly paced. Some portions were very exciting, and then you would come to a section where not much was happening at all with lots of nautical terminology, etc.

Cheney and Shiloh spend their honeymoon sailing from New York to the much warmer Caribbean Islands. But trouble always finds them, so they're kept busy treating illnesses again. Anything else I would comment would be spoilers, so I'll stop here. Another delightful adventure.

Though this book is technically not part of the Cheney Duvall, M.D. series, it continues the story of Cheney and Shiloh. The action in this book was a little slower than I would have liked but overall, a good read.

Cheney and Shiloh are on their honeymoon sailing on a ship bound for the West Indies, when a storm forces them to seek shelter at a island. That had been hit with sickness. Cheney being a doctor and Shiloh her nurse, soon find themselves helping the people of this island. Cheney ends up getting sick herself. Shiloh was terrified he was going to lose Cheney. At the same time Shiloh was dealing with a cousin who also was on the island, which Shiloh did not know this where he resides. His cousin had ran from trouble he had with the family to which he blamed Shiloh for. So when they both found out about each other, there was immediately tension between them.

I found myself spell bound by this book. I could not wait till the end to find if Cheney lived and if Shiloh and his cousin, become friends again. I also enjoyed the love that so freely flows between Shiloh and Cheney.

Cheney and Shiloh are on their honeymoon on Locke's Day Dream. Sailing around the Caribbean and enjoying new adventures. Of course they run into trouble on an island where Bain just happens to be holing up! This time they are battling Typhus and it is an exhausting fight. But as always, with the Lord on their side and their love and support of each other they come through stronger than ever. This is the first book in the 3 book Inheritance series that is a continuation of Cheney and Shiloh's lives. Their desire to love Bain is admirable even though he seems undeserving. We'll see what happens!

Although this was the first book in a series, I felt like I was always "missing something" throughout the book. I think I may have had the "history" I needed to make the story line more complete if I would have read the "Cheney Duvall., M.D." series of books first. (Cheney Duvall is one of the main characters.) Sometimes the author got a bit bogged down with facts about "sailing" and "medicine," and the action became too slow. I plan on reading the second book in the series and hope the action picks up.

A nice continuation of the story. I find Cheney to be more bearable so married life must suit her (though odd that all her old insecurities seem to just melt away). Shiloh is mushier, but his dynamic change does show that a radical force has rocked his world--yet he is mostly still Shiloh.

I love the sea adventures but that's what I've always liked about this series--the settings are always so wildly vast and teach me so much about the past. They are mostly historical so it's a great study in perspective.

I adored the Cheney Duvall series so this continuation following her married life was greatly anticipated. Not so great a book. C&S were hardly central at all and in fact their part of the story was fairly boring. Best part was the 'bad guy', Shiloh's cousin's story. Parts were overly preachy & the typhus thing went on a tad too long. Then there was a curiously tacked on bit at the end that seemed to be there only to lead into a next book. Hope that next one is better than this!

It took me a while to really get into this book whereas I seemed to jump right in on the first series. It was about mid book before it got really interesting. In parts it seemed more sappy than the first series ever was too, but still an enjoyable read if you liked the Cheney Duvall, M.D. series. My rating probably leaned more towards 3.5 at times, but I'll give it a 4.

It is refreshing to read a historical romance that features God as a guiding presence. I especially enjoyed the medical viewpoint on the typhus outbreak on the island and on board the ship. This is a relaxing series to read that completely removes one from today's hustle, bustle and frantic pace!

Love this series! I'm re-reading it with my preteen daughter (who reads at a college freshman level according to a reading and comprehension diagnostic).
