A little more than six years ago my life changed forever when I met Tyler Reed. He’s one-hundred percent Marine and one-hundred-ten percent man. From his broad chest and strong back, to his infectious smile and panty soaking charm, he is the man who invaded my heart and consumes my fantasies to this day.

He is the love of my life, or, I think he could have been if he hadn’t disappeared. Instead, I was left with the memories of our magical day of cosmic attraction and our night of unforgettable passion. Well, that and an exuberant six-year-old boy who I imagine is just like his dad.

Life since has settled into a rhythm, not perfect, but comfortable in its predictability. I can see the path in front of us, and have planned the foreseeable future down to the smallest detail.

But life has a funny way of throwing a wrench into those perfect plans, doesn’t it?

After catching a glimpse of Ty at my best friend’s wedding reception, I find myself wondering if he is capable of completely rewriting what I think I know about happiness.

The problem? I’m not sure how he’s going to take the news that he’s a father.

This Is Why is a standalone, second chance romance set in the small town of Brookside, Ohio. While it's part the Brookside Romance series, these books can be read in any order.

It was my first reading by the author.
Cute story and interesting characters to fully involve us in reading.
No other woman or another man involved in the story which made me very happy.

I really enjoyed this story and super happy to find another “new to me” author.
Tyler and Lexi spent 24hrs together a few years back but then Ty got deployed and they never saw each other again...until they do, and Lexi has a huge surprise for him!!
I loved the storyline and all the supporting characters and it’s definitely made me want to go back and start this series from the beginning (“This is Why” is book 3)

Might read this depending on whether he was celibate during the separation. Hate when the hero leaves the heroine for whatever reason and then ends up having sex with other women instead

Abby Brooks is a ROCK STAR!

This book is a second chance with lots of other things thrown in to make for one exciting book.

I was pulled into Ty and Lexie's life from the first page and held there through the Epilogue.
This book definitely fits the description of "a real page turner"

The chemistry between Ty and Lexie was definitely lighting hot and you just knew they were meant to be together.

I laughed, cried, held my breath, squealed, clapped my hands and jumped for joy. Dale brought all the feels to this book.

Some of this book tore at my Marine Mom's heart (my youngest son is a retired 21 year Marine with 2 tours in Iraq with one being the battle of Fallujah where his gun unit was active in the bloodiest battle of that war and no communication for 3 weeks)
Dale really nailed all the emotions Lexie went through!
I loved that in the end Lexie was able to give Ty back a part of what she felt she had taken from him and not really because he made her feel guilty but that she understood deep in her heart what she had unwittingly taken from him.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book and highly recommend both it and the author.

This is the third book in this series and hands down my favorite.

Love both the main characters. We get to see a different side to Lexi in this book. She is a great mom and she gets to be together, finally, with his dad. Tyler is great. For some reason his story may be a little hard to believe, pining for a girl he met once over 6 years, but I liked it anyhow. Yes this story is total instalove, but between Gabe, their son, and the way their story unfolds, I really enjoyed it.

3 1/2*
Lexi & Tyler had a one night stand 6 years ago & haven't crossed paths since. Imagine her surprise when he turns up at her best friends wedding. Little does he know she's a surprise for him.
Another lovely book & it's nice to hear the other characters from the previous series mentioned. This is a standalone & previous books do not have to be read as they each have true endings.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Another lovely story

HEARTACHINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Title: This Is Why
Series: A Brookside Romance
Author: Abby Brooks
Designation: Book 3 of Series, Full-Length Standalone, NO Cliffhanger
Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited
My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars*****
This may have been my first time reading Abby Brooks, but it certainly won't be my last. Brooks grabbed my attention in the blurb, then completely hooked me in the first chapter and by the time I finished, I'd become a Brooks fan for life. Without a doubt, this book is one of the best I've read this year. I'm a total romance junkie and always on the lookout for a great new author and Abby Books just claimed a place on my favorites list. There's nothing better than pulse-pounding romantic suspense or a mind-bending romantic thriller, which is what I generally prefer. Surprisingly, this story doesn't include murder, mayhem, suspense, or mind games, but what it does have is a well-crafted, perfectly paced story filled to the brim with well-developed characters, heartwarming romance, steamy passion, emotional intensity, unquestionable realism, laugh out loud humor, agonizing angst, a love that had to be written in the stars, and a whole lot of feels, the kind that stay with you long after the last page has been read. I laughed, I cried and, at one point, I almost bit my nails in the quick but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. This Is Why is a well-crafted. fast-paced, easy-to-follow, full-length standalone contemporary military second chance romance. This is the third book of Brooks' Brookside Romance Series but I had no trouble at all following the story. As I stated earlier, this is my first time reading anything written by Brooks but as soon as I finished this book, I rushed back to Amazon and snagged the first two books of the series. The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, seductive, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. I classify this super sexy tale as a second chance romance since the two protagonists actually met almost seven years prior to the time this story begins. They had one unforgettable night together, a night that resulted in heartache for one and far-reaching consequences for both. I loved the premise, but it's very much a character driven tale of love lost and lives changed. And Brooks executed it brilliantly. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists, beautiful emergency room nurse Alexa 'Lexi' Stills and handsome, panty-melting hot Marine Captain Tyler Reed. These two characters literally exploded from the pages, demanded my undivided attention, and completely captured my heart. Their interaction was captivating and their sexual chemistry was so hot it sizzled! They played off each other perfectly. I so wanted them to find their happy ending but I never wanted their story to end! What a conundrum! lol... I loved all the characters but Lexi's son Gabe was absolutely precious! OMG! This entire story was absolute perfection! A perfect example of love conquers all!

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain several steamy, dreamy love scenes! If you love heart-achingly beautiful feel-good romance that will tug on your heartstrings, then this book is screaming your name. Will I read this author again? That would be an emphatic YES! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

This is Why is the 3rd book in Brook’s Brookside series based around the lives and loves of 5 people in the imaginary small Ohio town of Brookside. This story features Lexi who has been a very big secondary character in the first two books. Lexi is a single mom of 6-year-old Gabe. Apparently even her best friends Bailey and Michelle knew nothing about Gabe’s father beyond he was a one-night stand Lexi had while on vacation in the Florida Keys. That is until he shows up at Bailey and Liam’s wedding and his BFFs with Michelle’s husband David and bRother-in-law Colton and is staying at their house while home on leave from the Marines to visit his sister and her new baby. When they see each other across the room at the reception and Ty gets one look at Gabe he immediately knows the boy is his son. My first problem with this story is I’m going to assume that as Bailey’s lifelong BFF, Lexi was her M.O.H. Which makes the idea that Ty, assuming he attended the wedding as well as the reception, didn’t see her until well into the reception a little hard for me to understand. Lexi is protective of her son and a understandably a bit selfish. She doesn’t want to introduce Ty to him and upset his life. Especially since she believes Ty snuck away from her bed without a word never to be heard from again for six plus years and is only in Brookside for a brief time before he returns to Hawaii where he’s currently stationed. The mystery of what happened to the note he left her under her phone explaining why he left in the middle of the night is never answered. Her friends all tell her (and I agree) Ty has a right to know he has a son regardless of Lexi’s concerns. It doesn’t take long despite Lexi’s fears for the incredible chemistry they share to reignite and they become lovers again. And Ty has a dirty-kinky side and Lexi loves it. But the question becomes, where do they go from here? Lexi has a good job as an ER nurse, a home, her mom and her friends all in Brookside. Ty’s life is the Marines where he’s risen to the rank of captain. She doesn’t want to relocate herself and Gabe to Hawaii leaving everything in her life behind and Ty has never considered leaving the Marines and doesn’t know what he’d do as a civilian. Now, I’m going to go on a slight editorial rant here. This isn’t the first story I’ve read and I’ve witnessed in real life the struggles of military families due to long separations. I’ve come to believe that as much as I respect and appreciate the sacrifices and devotion to duty it takes to be in the military, that military men and women should be single if they’re planning to make a career out of the military. I just don’t believe its fair to a spouse and children to leave them for long periods of time while they’re on deployment. And that doesn’t even mention the fact that military personnel are constantly being reassigned moving from one base to another across the country and around the world. I think children in particular need the stability of remaining and growing up in one place. Or at least not being expected to leave their friends and school behind every few years when a parent gets reassigned. Just my opinion. Ty bemoans the fact that he was denied the opportunity to witness so many of Gabe’s first in his first six years. But the reality is there’s little chance he would have actually been around to see them because he likely would have been out on deployment somewhere saving the world. After only a few days and a lot of steamy loving Lexi agrees to use her accrued vacation for her and Gabe to go to Hawaii with Ty when his week’s leave is up for a test run to see if they would be comfortable living with him there. This is a common occurrence in contemporary romance where couples bang like bunnies and make all sorts of romantic pronouncements both to themselves and to each other before they finally say, “I love you.” But here we have Lexi taking her son to Hawaii, having hot sex, considering moving their life there to be with him and yet she’s holding back on admitting she loves him? And he’s asked her to upend her life to be with him and he too has not uttered those three little words. It just seemed absurd to me. I get that people often have sex before they feel comfortable saying “I love you.” But these two are talking about living together with their son, sharing a life. Why would they even consider doing that before they’re comfortable enough to tell each other they love them?
This is another very good book in this series. I’m so glad I discovered this author. She hasn’t disappointed me yet. There’s plenty of romance as Ty and Lexi fall more and more in love. There’s lots of hot sex. There’s happy feels from the support of good friends. There’s enough angst to require a box of Kleenex nearby. Lexi and Ty and we readers get the wonderful happily ever after we all deserve.

This Is Why has absolutely everything I want to read in a second-chance romance. An amazing connection between the couple, a misunderstanding that kept them apart, and hard work at putting their relationship together, rather than an instant "everything is hunky-dory" relationship.

Seven years after Lexi and Ty spend one day and night together in Key West, they meet again at Bailey's wedding reception. Lexi knew they were from the same town, but didn't try *that* hard to track down the Marine after he ditched her in the middle of the night and she found herself pregnant. She never found the note he left her that he'd been called to duty immediately. But because this couple is absolutely meant to be together, fate has given them another push -- but Lexi is at first too stubborn to accept it.

Little by little, Lexi lets Ty in, knowing that he deserves to get to know their son, Gabe. Ty's never stopped thinking about Lexi and the connection he felt with her all those years ago, and he's determined to prove to her that he can be a man she and her son can depend on. Because this is a military romance of sorts, Ty's job as a Marine captain causes some drama and heartache for both of them.

What I loved about This Is Why is how relatable both characters are. Abby Brooks does a FANTASTIC job of taking the reader on their journey as they determine where they fit in one another's lives, how to share the truth with Gabe, and the agony that they all go through before finding their HEA as a family.

I have loved every book in the Brookside series, and I will definitely keep This Is Why on my re-read list. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

How could someone not be so exited after reading such an overwhelming book? So I”m going to be very brief with this review because my heart is still beating very fast. Initially once I began reading this book I thought Ty is the antihero, the one who had a fling with Lexi and left, leaving her with a child to grow and I was really mad at him. How could he have done such a thing? On the contrary I later had to change my mind because not only he is unaware of what things had been going on but once he knows he has a son, he is thrilled with the new situation. Plus he has never forgotten Lexi because he has been absolutely enthralled by her since their first encounter. I need to add more, that is he has written her tons of love letters since the moment they have been apart, now this is what I call the ultimate man. I could go on forever by saying how marvelous Abby’s writing is but I guess everyone already knows. These are the type of books that make me hope that there are still a lot of men enough sensible to be the perfect match for a woman in need of real love.

This Is Why is one of those books I could read ten times and not be tired of it!
Lexi and Ty's journey is one full of ups and downs.
The undeniable connection between them carries throughout this incredible tale, one that will cause your heart to ache, break and slowly piece itself back together again til it's ready to burst again because it is so happy!
Not to worry though, it is not all sadness and frustration, there is plenty of humor twirled with fantastic banter, sweet romance that made me jealous ( of a fictional character * sigh* I am rolling my own eyes) and plenty of hotness weaved through those pages!
Abby Brooks has created a genuine heart tugging read that I am so glad I have had the opportunity to read and will stick with me for some time to come!

"Well, hello beautiful!" These words are the first ones that will turn upside down Lexi's world. She's on vacation in Key West searching for....something. Standing before her is the most handsome Marine she has ever laid eyes on. They hookup and have a magical day and night. But by morning, Tyler is gone without even a goodbye. Anger sets in as well as self doubt. Going forward, her life gets scary and complicated but her stubborn determination carries her through. Six years later, their lives cross again with sparks flying but also with a reluctance to trust Tyler. Their story is the most heart warming, sweet and precious romance I've read in a long time. I felt humor, anxiety and even shed a few tears. Beautiful story, written perfectly. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Five stars.

Abby did not disappoint in another great story in the Brookside Romance series. The story of Lexi and Tyler. Once you start reading this book it will be hard to put it down. Of course, there will be some bumps in the road with Lexi and Tyler love story. Lexi finds out that her life is fine with just her and her son until Tyler comes crashing back into her life. She has been having fantasies for the past 6 years about Tyler after their one magical night. Tyler seems to find out that the Marine is not the only thing important in his life anymore. Can Tyler and Lexi love survive a deployment after 6 years of being apart? You must read the book to find out. I volunteered to read an ARC and leave a honest review.

I recieved this book for my honest opinion this is the 3rd book in the series and it's our girls lexi's stories! You see the rest of the characters from the other books in the book but this a complete stand alone!!! Tyler comes back into town and he runs into Lexi the one women he can't get out of his mind but what happens when he sees a little boy that looks exactly like him will he run away? Ty and Lexi spend time with each other and she goes to Hawaii with him but when he gets a call to get deployed will their love overcome? Will they get their happy ending? Emotional read too!! I loved this book!

I have read through this book three times, and each time it gets better and better. Across the room at a friend's wedding, Lexie sees the father of her child. The same man who does not know the child even exists. Through determination and the qualities that make him a great Marine, Ty, not only wins Lexie's love but the son he had always hoped to have. But can their newly found love survive a deployment? Is their love strong enough? Abby Brooks hit it out of the park with this tender love story that not only has great characters and a heartwarming plot, but it is such a feel good story that you too will need to read it again and again.

Seriously loved Lexi & Ty's story! There is so much love, adventure, and hope in this book.
I was hooked from the first page to the last.

Lexi has so much strength and character. I love the fight she has in her.

I adore Ty! As the story went on and we are able to see more of Ty's character. A man who will do whatever he has to keep his family together.

I love Abby's books because they are so well written you feel like you are part of the story. You are going through the emotional rollercoaster with the characters.

I highly recommend! ❤️

Love Abby Brooks! I also love this series! Book 3 brings us Lexi and Tyler!
Tyler is a bad*** marine, strong, protective, awesome Hero! Lexie is so strong, an awesome Mom, working hard and is a wonderful friend...I love strong heroines.
After meeting, and then more lol the story really takes off. Lots of feels in this one, drama, heat, discovery, suspense, struggles. I love how Abby's books always feel so real <3 Once Tyler makes his discovery, lots of struggles but when the relationship starts working it becomes very real for the reader!
Five big stars from this devoted fan! Highly recommend!

DNF'd between 20-30%.

I felt there was no story left at that point. We had already learned the h had a one night stand that resulted in a child. The father was a military man who returns, figures out immediately he has a son, and she agrees to let him see him. They also both still have intense feelings for each other.

I didn't know where else it could go, and maybe it would've found its stride if I stuck it out. I picked it up because I do love all the romance tropes it covered: military, secret baby, second-chance. Just right off the bat this one wasn't for me. Happy reading to those who enjoy it!

Alright

This was an okay read. I didn't quite believe parts of the premise. Knowing that they came from the same hometown, I think they would have discussed who they knew in common back home. I totally get that she didn't look that hard because she thought he was a leaver, but I think it would have been easier than it appeared to be to ask about him around town.

Spoiler alert:
I also wish they would have found a better way to make a life together than him leaving the service. Couples deal with the reality of military life all the time and while they had a taste of that, I was disappointed at the resolution.

This is the third in the Brookside Romance series. While not my favorite of the three, I enjoyed it nonetheless. It was love at first sight for Lexi and Ty when they met 7 years prior in Florida. When Ty returns to their hometown and discovers here there at his friend's wedding, he knows instantly that he wants to be with her - even more so when he discovers she had his child. Lexi has her anxieties about risk that she needs to overcome as she comes to terms with her feelings for Ty and they work at figuring out a way they can be together. Keep your tissues handy for this one as you'll need them in the emotional conclusion.

Yes!

I absolutely love Ty! Before reading this book I saw a comment about someone not finishing the book because she hated him but I don't see why. He only flaw is that he has the honest trait of a marine. Always looking for solutions but sometimes there's a little blinded as far as willing to give up those own career. But the book was great! Insta-love stories is something I hate reading but this wasn't bad at all. It works great especially when Bailey and Michelle talk about 'you know when you know not if it's been a day or a year'.

(I read Beyond Words before this book so you can only imagine my excitement to read about CAPTAIN REED ♥️)

This is a second chance romance that started off with a one night stand with an unexpected secret pregnancy that Lexi kept to herself and Ty the hero is married to the military but claims he has loved Lexi since first meeting her, but he made no attempt to find her after their one night stand. When they end up meeting again Hong’s are awkward and he wonders why until he meets his twin, his six year old son Gabe. Lexi and Ty do have their ups and down and Lexi being confused dosrnt know whether to let him go or keep him close. I liked this second chance romance but I didn’t agree with some things these two did but I still rate it a strong 3.

ABBY BROOKS💓💓💓

Okay, I read my first book of hers yesterday and longish I feel in love with Liam lol! And now Th and Lexi❤❤❤, they are perfection! I loved every bit of it. I laughed and cried in both books btw. Yes, I read them both in a 16 hour span! The only thing I would change is giving my pov to the guys. As a woman, I know basically what I am going to read and feel, but reading from the guy's pov is like getting a real look at a boy brain and heart. I prefer the make pov so much more especially for the intimate parts and that is the only thing sorely lacking in these books. They are an easy, sweet and sexy read. Thank you!

Military man. One night stand on vacation. Accidental pregnancy. 6 year gap until they meet again.
A bit treacly. A bit long. Good group of characters- I think this is part of a larger series or interconnected series, but I didnt read those, and this book was fine as a stand-alone.
Ty is a straight up Marine. Called to duty and to serve.
Lexi is a nurse. Great single mom. Has a good support system of friends.
Takes a minute when they reunite for her to trust him. Takes him a minute not to be commanding and issuing orders.
But it’s a lovely story to family and love are everything.

Met on vacation far from their homes and a one night stand what could become of that?

From the same town yet one still lives there and the other is thirteen hours away by plane and married to the Marine Corps! Change encounter on vacation in another state from each of them discovering they are from town and one night together! Forward to seven years since then and another encounter in the small town at a wedding where they discover secrets kept and things they thought they both did yet was not discussed till now! Was that seven years too long to bring that strong connection back into play or ????

Lexi and Ty are both crazy over each other but life has kept them apart for almost 7 years after they first met. Once they reconnect by pure accident, their connection is tested again by the hot marine's deployment. How can Lexi survive watching her love gone again? How does Ty stay focused on his job when all he wants to do is be with Lexi and his 6 year old soon, whom he just met?
This is a romantic book that will keep you wanting to read non stop. Abby, this is an amazing book!
I'm definitely reading it again!!
