FOR USE IN SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES ONLY. Early learners are encouraged to ask and answer questions about nature (e.g. Why do rainbows have so many colors? Why do some trees lose their leaves? Why do some clouds have rain falling out of them? Why do volcanoes stay quiet for so long and then erupt? Why do flowers smell so good?) in this playful text. Each question is posed and answered first with an imaginative silly answer followed by the correct answer. The text sequence and repetition creates an engaging game for young readers as they are encouraged to dream up their own silly answer on the way to learning.
Jennifer Shand began writing after working with children for many years and after graduating from James Madison University with a degree in Psychology. She is now the author of one middle grade novel, The Last Elf Daughter, and eighteen picture books including the Why Do? series, the How Do? series, the Sounds From the ... series, and fairy tale retellings. The goal of Jennifer's books is to encourage laughter and learning.
A cute book that provides silly reasons why certain things in nature are the way they are (rainbows, leaves falling off trees, volcanoes, clouds and rain, etc.) then explains the real reasons. This would make a great introduction to science for younger children.
Fiction K-3rd Grade Reading Level Rainbows have always been my favorite thing to see growing up and so I didn't hesitate reading this book. I love that this book is an engaging and educational book that satisfies curious minds with its delightful exploration of light and color. Through vivid illustrations and simple explanations, young readers will embark on a colorful journey to understand the science behind one of nature's most beautiful phenomena, leaving them in awe of the world around them.
This is an outstanding book to use with children, especially when they are at the stage were they keep asking "why? why? why?". This book hits on many why questions, like why do the leaves fall? why do the volcanoes erupt.
Parents and children will love this book. Teachers will enjoy using this book in their classrooms to help teach them all about science.
