Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.

Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.

In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

I was really hoping for this ending.
You know, the kind that makes you smile and not regret hanging in there to see it all the way through.
It was one of those comics that was everything I didn't know I wanted it to be and then a little more.

Warning: Potential Visual Spoilers Ahead!

Ok, so this starts up where the last volume ends. Thragg has just potentially killed Mark's dad in battle, and everyone is fighting for their lives (and control of the universe) in an all-out brawl with the Thragg's half-Vultrimite army. Of course, Mark and Co win but not without some losses.

description

And then you spend the rest of the comic tying up every loose end out there.

Thank you, Kirkman.
Thank you for giving me the exact happy ending that I needed.

Well, after 144 amazing issues, the book that has to be one of the strongest contenders for my 'Favourite Comicbook Series of All Time' award comes to an end.

I might stop crying sometime in the autumn... possibly...

RIP 'Invincible' - you WILL be missed. Thanks for all the good times...

So this is it. It's over.

I cried like a baby. Okay not really. But it's still very sad it's over.

So is it the end of all things? Is it going to go out in a big war fashion? Yes and no.

Finally the big brawl happens and we know who faces off against who. That goes without saying. Then we try to close up all loose ends with Robot. It's a big brawl there but one that is satisfying. Once that's out of the way where do we go? How does it end? What big threat will occur? Well...it's the end. And so we begin to build up the next storyline. And it a oversized issue we got a ending truly worthy of the title. A life time of events summed up quickly yet it somehow all comes together really well.

Good: The ending. The last issue. Top 10 last issues ever easily. It gives you the feels like a mofo, and ending worthy of tears, and also of happiness. You see characters you love grow, and you see where they were and how the ended. The way people become bitter, or happy, the way things changed, it's all really well done. Nothing is simple, but neither is life, and it works together flawlessly.

Bad: Some Robot stuff gets wrapped up too quick.

I loved it. It's over and I'm sad but I'm glad it ended the way it did. I couldn't ask for a better ending. It's a 5 out of 5 easy. So as I say goodbye to Invincible I can't help but feel there will be a void for me and superhero comics. I don't know if anything will be like this again, a huge inspiration to my own comic, I can't express how much I love this series. Again, a 5 out of 5, and worth reading multiple times.

And now, at the end of all things, I find myself VERY satisfied.

Not only did the big battle and several multiple resolutions come to pass, but we get the full addendum, the growing up of the young ones, snippets of all the huge events to come, and a great feel for how everything turned out.

And it is good.

More than good.

This is truly one of THOSE great comics that belong on every shelf.

I truly have no bad thing to say about it.

Respect.

This series was So fucking Good! They should put all 25 volumes in a space shuttle So that one day an alien species can find this. (Lets hope they are viltrumites)

4.5 stars (rounded up.)

They totally nailed the ending on this: this is what superhero comics should aspire to.

Virtually everything seen over the course of the series run comes into play here, and is given it's proper due and conclusion.

But where Invincible really shines in the end is where it has excelled from the beginning: characters and relationships. That's what makes this a top tier finale: we are allowed, in the end to realize how much of all the characters have grown and matured since the series beginning (and not all for the better.)

While I have major issues with Walking Dead, this is the flip side, where everything comes together in a satisfying conclusion. (This series overall may rank in my Top 20 Superhero books of all time.)

WAIT!! It’s over?!?! Seriously?!?! Noooo!! Well what an awesome ride. Thanks Kirkman for tugging on my heartstrings! Geez!!

That was a phenomenal ending. I couldn’t ask for it to end any other way. This series was so perfect from start to finish. I loved every page and every volume. This will definitely be a reread next year!!

It's over.
After seven years I finally finished Invincible, it's 3.47 am and I've been crying LIKE A BABY.
Too many emotions, THE PARALLELS.
The fucking parallels got me.
I need a whole new series about Marky.

Okay, I need to sleep, I need a bit of time until I review this properly. It wasn't all perfect, but damn, what a ride. What a journey. What a hero.

And thus ends the cycle of stories around Mark, aka Invincible. It was a fantastic run, another triumph for Kirkman and his team. I liked the plot twists here and how we get a relatively smooth landing for the many characters. As a reader from the beginning of this series, I felt I got closure from most for the plot lines that interested me the most.

What I enjoyed about the whole Invincible universe was how it never took itself too seriously even with all the pastiches of various superheroes and cinematic universes. Mark remained a multi-dimensional character inside a universe of changing alliances and we got to see him grow as a human from a confused teen to a mature, wise adult who (naturally) saves the universe yet once again. The art is always spectacular with full-page graphics, two-page layouts of 32 boxes each...just a variety of formats with brilliant colors and homogenous artwork throughout. Highly recommended for fans of superheroes, sci-fi, and fantasy.

And with this volume the series is all wrapped up. Not a bad ending overall. I had a few issues with a couple of the plot devices being inconsistent with the series history but still an enjoyable read. Overall this has been a great entertaining read from the beginning to the end. If you want to see how a modern age conic can feel like an updated telling of the silver age Marvel books give this a try. Very recommended for this issue and I think I will say Highly recommended as a series

2003 to 2019, a 144 book run! A remarkable piece of graphic novel superhero - science-fiction writing by Kirkman and co. The final volume has the trademark guts and glory battles and hopefully the final resolution of the Viltrumite nation. 8 out of 12... Oh and the actual war issues were more like 9.5 out of 12.. man, did Invincible produce outrageously outstanding battle scenes.

As you can see, I stuck with INVINCIBLE to the end. Which should mean I love this series, right?

Weeeeeeelllllllll . . . there are things to love about it. Other than some awkward dialogue, the writing is mostly fine. The artstyle won't wow you, but it's got suitably cut lines and bright colors.

The story progresses episodically with proximate attendance to every plot point. But I felt it got rather formulaic several times. And where it could have progressed naturally, it chose to not. It took other, sticklier routes.

I read all of Invincible while getting used to Med School and essentially a hectic new life. So it was a nice place to go to at the end of the day.

There are definitely low points to the series — they're infrequent, but they're there.

It's good timepass.

Invincible Vol. 25 The End of All Things Part 2 collects issues 139-144 written by Robert Kirkman with art by Ryan Ottley and Cory Walker.

The epic conclusion to the series that was 15 years, 144 main issues and numerous tie-ins in the making - The end of the Invincible universe!

This was such a great end to one of the best and most consistent superhero comics (and comics in general) of all time. Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, and Cory Walker helped create a universe that was both a love letter to silver age comics, but very much a product of today's modern comics. I'm very satisfied with the ending we got and look forward to seeing how the story plays out with the Amazon Prime TV series as well as the still in production live-action movie. I hope both bring in new fans to this amazing series.

Let's get a few things out of the way at the start.

Yes, this is very much a Superman/DC Comics story. Get over it. Most, if not all, of the American super hero archetypes were created nearly a century ago. That does not mean someone can not come up with one hell of a story to tell.

This is pretty much a rating for the entire series, excluding the spin-offs, and it might be a little high. For what it is worth if you want to read good, and fun, creator owned super hero comics Invincible and The Savage Dragon are probably the best two titles to sit down and binge read (And I'm willing to promote both of these via word of mouth).

If you to level a criticism at the last issue (aka last chapter) it is Kirkman squeezing in about 20-30 years worth of history into one issue. For what it is worth I think Kirkman handles the passage of time well. It feels a little rushed, but I'd rather have that than a Chris Claremont stretching it out to infinity.

And, we get a happy ending. Arguably, multiple happy endings.

With what is happening in the real world, I can use a good happy ending now and then.

I wish I could give this 5 stars, but it just got drawn out and drawn out and draaaaawwwwwnnnnn out some more. Good god! Once a certain battle is finished (could it really have ended any other way? c'mon), this is all basically anticlimax. A lot of it is really good--I'll admit I had tears in my eyes watching Terra grow up and even little Marky (the product of Anissa's rape of our hero). But it's got to end some time and Kirkman just keeps stretching it out, past the breaking point. Ultimately, I really enjoyed this series. But it was tired a long time ago and nothing could really be done to bring it back to where it once was. So, in the end, I'm glad it's finally done (though, was that Angstrom Levy's daughter with the fox?).

I feel like at some point Robert Kirkman's focus changed from having fun to rushing to tie up loose ends so he could end the series. And it's a weird thing because I did want him to bring the story to a close rather than letting other people write it to wildly varying results, but the last few trade paperbacks just felt rushed to me (not unlike the ending of Fables, where it felt like Bill Willingham was just checking things off a list rather than developing a story naturally).

And thus it ends... I remember around volumes 11/12 thinking, how is this going to end? How does this wrap in a neat little bow...

Well, the bow is anything but neat, but for the most part, I'll say that Kirkman has stuck the landing. It's perhaps not how I expected it to end, and a little less "epic feeling" than I wanted, but then I realize, this isn't the ultimate climax of the series - that happened a few volumes ago. This is the necessary resolution, and it's one that even now, knowing the story is over, leaves plot lines open, intentionally. (And that's a good thing, not a bad one. Stories don't end, we just stop telling them).

This review is going to be more a review of the series rather than this specific issue. I think the above statement that Kirkman stuck the landing is good enough to sum up how I feel. Now, on to the series as a whole:

Invincible is...amazing. I wish I had a better word that could sum this story up. I don't. I can't think of anything else but amazing. The progression and arc that this series goes through is nothing short of incredible. I remember talking to friends about how much fun the first few volumes were, enjoying the humour and light-hearted approach. Boy, did I not see what was on the horizon. Taking a hard left turn, the series suddenly became very dark, and very real, tackling real world issues in a larger-than-life way. Every twist and turn along the way was interesting, fresh, and within the context of the story, realistic. I never felt like Kirkman was grasping for a new plotline. It always felt fleshed out. Things that happen in issue 4 might come back in issue 78. I liked that, I appreciated that and I feel that's the strength of something like this. It didn't feel like the episodic superhero comics it is so clearly satirizing. It is its own epic, self-contained story. It's fun, but then it's not. It never overstays its welcome in regards to tone, plotline, supporting characters, etc.

I really don't know what else to say. This has been an incredible journey and with the exception of Saga, I have never had THIS much fun reading a comic series. I had low expectations going in - thinking this was "just" a superhero comic, but wow did Kirkman convert me.

The perfect end.

The end of all things was a great final arc and the final fight with thragg is probably the most epic thing I have ever seen. I also love how they introduce new characters in these final issues. It really makes the invincible universe feel alive even after it’s ending. That’s what I always loved about invincible. The world felt so alive the whole run because you always saw some pages about minor heroes or villains doing things before they collided with the main story. And honestly I wish they would tell more stories from this universe especially the ones they teased in the end but I know it won’t happen and I’m fine with knowing that the invincible universe is still alive. And it will live on in the animated series. I’m honestly beyond hyped for the upcoming seasons since season 1 was good. I just Hope they Continue to deliver just as much as the comic did for me. I’m excited to see the things I know from the comics but I also want to see how they handle things different and change it up a little.

The last panel is honestly pure perfection and serves as the best ending I have ever seen in any fictional work. I just love everything about it. The callback, the happiness, the pain, the peace. I also like that Cory walker returned for the last pages as he started the series with his art, although I’m not a big fan of his art style. And I have to praise Ryan ottley for the best artstyle I have ever seen in any comic book. It especially fits perfectly for the superhero genre in my opinion.

I was planning to do a final review on the series as a whole here, but I wrote a review for every volume, so I don’t know what else to say.

For me they just prove that…

Invincible is the best superhero comic book in the universe.

A fabulous series with few flaws but those that do exist take away from the story. Controversial issue #110 about Mark's rape is something I never thought I'd see in a comic. And I mean SEE. I'm very thankful I have never been in this situation on either side of the coin (criminal or victim) but I have enough people in my life that have to make a judgement on this. I think the representation of Mark's PTSD was accurate and that the author and artists handled that well. HOWEVER, if you removed this plot point from the comic at large nothing about the comic would have changed at all. The story would remain the same minus the rape and unfortunately the child that resulted. Markus was in the book for such a short time compared to Terra that I honestly don't think he added ANYTHING. I don't understand the author's choice on adding this plot point. The story at large was complex, emotional and well developed over what was essentially 15 years. Most if not all of the loose ends were tied up and pretty much everyone you hate dies so yay? I wish Mark's mom would have gotten some more respect in the end other than just writing her out presumed dead of old age. She was such a powerful character that overcame so much it's kind of like she was done dirty. This also took me forever to read, and I'm glad I paced myself. I suggest this to anyone wanting to get into comics especially ones with longterm plots.

My favorite comic book series of all time is over. Invincible has been going on for fifteen years, and I've been reading it since I was sixteen. In this volume, it all wraps up. The pacing is accelerated yeah, but the trade-off is Kirkman capping off every single loose thread, and taking us into the future of the Invincible universe. Very little is left up to interpretation, as the Thragg, Robot, and Viltrumite story-lines are brought to the most satisfying conclusion possible.

I'm amazed there weren't more casualties.

I love Invincible. This is an incredible final volume. It's awe-inspiring to look back on the entire work, and think about all the creative humans who made this unlikely book a staple of my life and creative-self. It's so important to me, and I know it's got to have the same weight for a lot of you. Kirkman does us right, and finishes the story in style, on his terms, and with dignity. (Something I fear TWD may never attain.) For that I'm thankful, but there's nothing else quite like Invincible, and it's gonna leave a big ol' hole in my heart for the foreseeable future.

Solid conclusion to a series that makes sense in the long term and keeps you on the edge of your seat in the short term.

I read the entire series and almost all the companion works in 3 days. I can't imagine how hard it would have been to see it end if I had been there for the 15 year long ride.

The ending and overall satisfaction with the series gives me hope for the Amazon animated version. As I wait for season 2 and beyond I can only hope they do this good work...justice.

So it’s done. 100/100.
Invincible has one of the best endings that you can get. The whole series is amazing, with quality definitely going up as we get closer to the end. It was beautiful ride, all those characters and their development, all those planets and fights, everything. I enjoyed this truly more than any other superhero comics.
Nice thing is - I first read it up until 2/3 of the series. Then watched TV show. And after I watched it, my brain automatically added voices I’ve heard from the show to characters while I was reading. And it was much much better experience!

I have some issues with the ending of the series, specifically with how quickly the epilogue moves through some major events without giving them the appropriate amount of focus in my opinion.

But the final shot is so perfect that it's impossible to deny that this series is one of the all-time greats. I am so excited to see the rest of this story get adapted.
