Hello folks, My name is Solomon Carter, and I am the author of the Roberts and Bradley PI crime thriller series, The Last Line international thriller series, the DI Hogarth Darkest series and more. I write mysteries, crime and thriller novels and more besides.
I was born in Southend, Essex and lived there for most of my life apart from eventful student days in South London. But my life in Southend was even more eventful still. I ended up working in a string of jobs including as a jobcentre clerk, a book seller, tutor for youth with low skills and low self esteem, mortgage broker, and latterly manager of a food bank which dealt with all kinds of interesting people facing all kinds of eye-opening, jaw dropping problems. Because of these ear-to-the-ground jobs the majority of my novels are set in Southend. In 2016 I moved to North Cornwall because I liked the idea of never-ending holidays - but I also write almost every single day. My aim is to write action-packed thrillers and page-turning mysteries that readers love and my hope is to get better at what I do with every book across each and every year.
I like to give away lots of free books as part of what I do. If you would like to receive some of these and get the exclusives on offer, than you're invited to join my free readers group at SolomonCarter.net. I won't spam you, just send the occassional email with news on the latest books and forthcoming freebies.

What I am good at: telling stories What I am bad at: dancing, being patient. What I love: nature, the seaside, adventures Writers I heartily recommend: Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Henning Mankell, Val McDermid, Harlan Coben, Robert Crais. Writers I need to read more of: Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly and others. Other things I do beside writing: at present I like to keep my running going to balance out the sitting behind a laptop (a habit inspired by Haruki Murakami's 'What I talk about when I talk about running' - a great book). -I am currently doing surf lessons. When in Rome, as they say... -Getting out into nature as the weather allows.
I look forward to hearing from you. Until then I'll keep on writing. Or running. Or surfing. Or chasing my children around the house.
All the very best, Solomon :)
PS if you have enjoyed any of my books, I'd be honoured if you could post a review. Those reviews really do help!
All the books I've read by this writer have had the same ingredients. Two strong leading characters, believable villains, fast-paced action-packed thrills and signs that the writer gets carried away with the story line. So much so, that he doesn't spot the typos. For some readers that matters; for others they ignore the faults and enjoy the ride. Not for the first time, I found that the characters and the plot edged the mad race to the finish line.
I would rarely rate anything with 5 stars and haven't done with this. For that I require something admittedly personal & special in the marriage of content, style and empathy with key players. Having said that, this is very well constructed story of crime in a backdrop that we can all understand. Our PI's and the good cops find themselves in combat with ambition, self-interest and corruption as they attempt to unravel the truth behind a seemingly normal single morther's death. Makes you want to stay with them as they unravel the web agonisingly slowly in their race to save another life.
London, England. Eva Roberts (PI) went to spill her guts to Laurence Potts (registered psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, life coach). Eva & Dan Bradley (PI, Eva’s business/romantic partner) are hopefully going to find Jane Jackson (mother, client) missing person: Willow Jackson (Jane’s daughter, young single mother). Larkways Estate shops (Larkways, Basildon). No need to look any further Rob Dawson had found the body.
Looks like another ritual killing. Eva & Dan went to see Tony Cotterill (Southend Borough Council director, Henry’s boss). The pathologists Tox report showed that Willow Jackson had a galore of illegal drugs in her system. What were Henry Lovett (Borough Council project mgr.), & Tony discussing? Robin Pickles (Southend College, Essex U, financial aid consultant) was the next victim to be killed. Alice Perry (The Record reporter) called PC Rob Dawson to see if she could get any info on the 2 murder cases. What were Eva & Dan looking for at Pirate Dan’s theme park (Metropolis-on-Sea project)? DI Joseph “Joe” Hogarth assigned PCSO Gill Penner (f), & PCSO Rebecca “Bec” Rawlins to help out with the investigations.
What was Connor Murphy (husband/father) up to? What has Phil Cotterill (head Council Business) been up to lately? Will the murder mysteries be solved & someone brought to justice?
Warning: This book contains extremely graphic adult content, violence, or expletive language which is only suitable for mature readers. It may be offensive or have potential adverse psychological effects on the reader.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written who-dun-it murder mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another murder mystery great movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Well here's a man who certainly knows Southend. I have read one of his Eva and Dan books before and liked it. They are a couple of private investigators working in Southend and are summoned to a council meeting to be told their success rate is making the town seem bad, ie full of bad people doing bad things and it is bad for the town when they have a plan to turn it into Metrolpolis-on-Sea. Well.
They are soon embroiled in another murder, this time it is a missing client who they have been taxed to find. She turns up naked and dead. The plot does thicken a lot in quite a short time, and involves virtually pure heroin, a college employee who has a computer full of images of young girls acting as hostesses at events put on by someone connected to MoS and who turns up dead too, and they are also trying to find a kidnapped young woman whose husband is also on their trail and that of his missing wife.
It is quite a good book considering all the gory details and it is one of those which I read through the night because I couldn't put it down!
I've read so many of Solomon Carter's Roberts and Bradley stories now I should be getting tired of them, but an contraire - I'm as booked as ever! Starting from the 13 books in the Long Time Dying series, each set of books is, in fact an on going story. This one is particularly gripping. A young, beautiful single mother, devoted to her child, never taken drugs or been promiscuous goes missing. Weeks later she is found naked on wasteland in the foetal position, thin, full of a strong narcotic and semen from at least two different men. Eva and Dan are hired by her mother to do a better job than the police in finding out what happened and who killed her. Now another beautiful young mother is missing but this time her husband is desperately searching for her. Can Eva and Dan prevent another tragedy? This is a really gripping thriller with many twists and turns - and the end sets the scene for the next book. I recommend these stories - they are addictive!
Enjoyed the book, didn't realize it was the most recently released book in the series. The plot was convincing, the people believable. Using drugs to take advantage of young women could certainly happen in today's world. A very angry husband searching for his wife is also plausible. Two PI's working with the police in a limited capacity makes the book enjoyable. The only problem I ran into was the editing, many mistakes are still in the book. If these are overlooked then anyone into mysteries will enjoy this book. Oh, by the way, it is set in England.
A little bit slow and slightly confusing at the start of the book but then all of a sudden I realized that it had me in its grip. One of those I don't want to put it down books once it reached that stage. Took me about 3 days to read the first 10 chapters and then finished then only about 24 hours to get from chapter 11 to 42 and the epilogue. Now I can't wait to get book 2 in the series and read it also.
If you like crime and detective novels this is one to read. Everything from private investigators, kidnap, drugs, rape, murder........... read it yourself and find it all out.
Due to eye issues (blindness) reads to me, another will written mystery thriller by Solomon Carter. The characters are interesting. The story line is intense, violent, fast moving, complicated, and ends with murder leading to drugs and the next novel in the series. I would recommend this novel and Solomon Carter novels to readers of mysteries thrillers. Enjoy reading 🔰 2021🏰⛲😈
I enjoyed this story that's part of the box set I have, this time, Eva and Dan are hunting a murderer of a young woman, whose mother has asked them to solve.
The story is set in Southend, as usual, and uncovers multiple levels of corruption from 'higher' places...no surprise there.
It's full of action and the story switches between an array of characters - Hogarth, for one.
I liked the plot and the suspense and though it had disturbing themes, it was a great read.
I absolutely refuse to spend time and energy on writing a review if an author has not taken the time and effort to proof read and edit his/her work. One or two mistakes and typos are acceptable, but this one is so full of errors in language and grammar that this author does not deserve a proper review.
Good story. Could've developed the characters a bit better. May get a better feeling for them as series progresses. As book developed the spelling and grammatical errors showed. At one point losing sight of who people were. Nevertheless I enjoyed it and would try something else by this author as the ideas are good. This can improve and I hope the next book is better.
I’ve now read quite a number of books by Solomon Carter and they’re all good. He has good main characters and excellent plots with plenty of excitement. All the books have a similar feel, but all are different and all are exciting reading. Like all the others, this one is great. Really excellent author.
Enjoyed this 1st book in the series, plot was good, but I do hope in the next book the characters are more developed, I would have given it 3.5 if I could but in the end decided to give it 4 for the plot and the ending.
This is not my first novel by this author and I hope it won,t be my last. Draws you straight into a fast paced ride and holds you there right to the end. Highly recommended.
An overstressed Pi and her partner are on the hunt for an abductor and killer. Plenty of interesting characters and a well-developed plot. Does need a good proofread though. I did enjoy the book and look forward to the rest of the series.
I love this authors detective series. I was lucky to read this free on kindle and have read most of this series and was surprised to find this latest one free. I spent Christmas Day, non stop reading and couldn't put it down much to mums bemusement.
This was a very good mystery with a good plot and lots of action. I liked the characters too but was less impressed with the typos and grammatical errors. I think I might still get the next book.
Well written book! Made me want to keep reading with the excellent characters. Really felt for the investigators as they had minimal chance and the woman started feeling like she was going crazy with no support. Will read more books from this author.
The author brings his characters to life and makes them believable. The storyline leads you through the ins and outs of the characters and tells the reader of the world of drugs and human beings who have been caught up in this world.
Don't know why I was expecting anything else but a great star to another series. I have never read a bad book or series by Solomon Carter and that isn't going to change here
This is a typical book of investigators with a fractional relationship with the police. Good storyline and good character building. This one does just seem to finish, with not much being tied up, but it is the first of a series, so I can understand why.
This was a fast read due to all the action! I really wish Connor , Dan, and Eve could've hooked up sooner though. All their investigative skills were working overtime. I loved the old msn getting his just desserts! Now I have to read the rest of the series!
I thought this was a wonderful read.Several mysteries in one, well round main characters, and I'll probably read more in this series.I recommend this to all my mystery reading friends.
This was a good one with 2 detectives working behind the scenes with a couple cops. I liked the give and take between them. Interesting characters in the story.
