The first time I met Pick Revere I tried to bash his head in with a baseball bat. The second time, I kissed the ever-loving daylights out of him on a dare. For a girl who’s on the lam and hiding from her cop ex, I’m failing miserably at laying low. Instead, I’m going up in delicious flames—because Pick’s the hottest, roughest, toughest bad boy firefighter I’ve ever laid eyes (or lips) on. He promises he has a big hose—and knows how to use it. I’d investigate, but I need my job as a cook at the fire camp. I’m supposed to serve my hotshot breakfast—not me. I’m supposed to keep my secrets. And I’m definitely supposed to stay single.
But I’m not prepared for what happens after our kiss. Pick’s magnetic and dangerous. He’s short-term fun—not Mr. Commitment. But then he volunteers to be my muscle when my douche ex tracks me down. And I shouldn’t want more than that.
But I do.
I should run as fast as I could from Pick.
But I won’t.
Because he sets me on fire and you know what they say about firefighters—the hotter you get, the faster they come. How’s a gal to say no?
This full-length standalone from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Anne Marsh is full of dirty swoonworthy hotshot firefighters that know how to use their hoses and who are about to learn how to use their hearts. This novel was originally published as a much shorter and tamer novella by eKensington and has been completely rewritten. The book is twice as big... and so are the hoses.

“I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book”
I’m really at a loss on how to review this book. I was intrigued and excited to read this, because let’s face it, hotshots! But, what I was hoping for (a girl running from her past and an abusive ex – a cop at that – who is searching for her and a hot, alpha hotshot who falls for her and fixes everything) and what I read were two completely different things.
I never did connect with any of the characters. I mean really, who out of middle school belongs to a club called “The Breakup Girls Club” where they get together and complain about their breakups, putting things in a piñata and smashing it? Really, does that even happen? There was so much potential in this storyline but I just couldn’t get into it. There were times I was confused as to what happened because a current scene would just stop and a new chapter would begin somewhere else in the story. The constant inner monologues were incessant and I found myself speed reading just to get through them.
Just because this wasn’t the book for me does not mean it’s not for others, these are just my opinions.
Pick Revere is wildlife firefighter in a small, isolated town in California. Fire is his life, yet petite Sarah Jo manages to catch his eye. Not only for her looks, but because she very clearly is running from something. She’s constantly on edge, looking over her shoulder, dressing in oversized clothing to hide her appearance, etc. The closer Pick and Sarah Jo become, the more determined Pick is to find out her secrets, but Sarah Jo isn’t sharing.
The characters are easy to like. Pick is the sweetest manly man I’ve come across in a long time. Honestly, I can’t think of a flaw of his, he’s that perfect. And thank goodness he is so sweet, because Sarah Jo can be very stubborn at times. At first she’s quiet and jumpy, but she gradually comes out of her shell, and her resilience stands out. The plot is straight forward and evenly paced.
Some problems: there were a lot of typos. Too many, even for an ARC copy. Also, I wasn’t happy with the ending. It was too ambiguous about their future, even for a HFN ending. I was left questioning if Sarah Jo was even going to stick around, and then it suddenly ends.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
COPY RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW This book had a pretty good story line. Sarah Jo is on the run. She is hiding out from a crazy ex. She finds herself in a cooking(loose term for her) in a camp for firefighters. Pick(yes that's his name) is one of the Hotshot fire fighters. I liked the characters. We spend a considerable amount of time in their heads. The story is told from both points of view. This was a quick read with heavy sexual overtones and sex. It is pretty predictable and most of the action happens at the end. Overall it was an ok read.
What happens when you have a bunch of Firefighters/Smokejumpers in one camp, in a small town, for a long Season. Well let me tell you all the single ladies become aware of all these men and after a while all the men are aware of which ladies to avoid! Also, what happens to these single ladies after a long enough time with these Firefighters? They come up with a group who call themselves The Breakup Club. These two groups wok together, play together and along the way some even find love together. Pick is one of the Team Leaders up at Big Bear Lake, he has been doing Seasons here for a few years, he loves his job and the excitement it brings. Sarah Jo is a new inhabitant of Baby Bear Lodge, this is where all the ladies that work with the gang at Big Bear Lake live. And Sarah Jo is the newest Cook on the line to feed these big burly Firefighters. How will these two work things out is a mystery, almost as mysterious as Sarah Jo's past. But pick refuses to let what he feels is the real thing go. Sarah Jo is afraid that she is gonna have to run again. It doesn't help that her fellow cooks put her up to a bit of good clean fun, that leaves Sarah Jo and Pick in the middle of a Fire hotter than they both expected. Grab this read to follow along on the journey these two travel to find true love and a life without regrets. Great read, wonderful characters, loved it!🌺
Hung by Anne Marsh was a fun, sassy yet sexy read. This was my first book to read by Anne but definitely not my last! The storyline is great and you can't help but love the characters. Pick Revere is a hotshot firefighter who is the first in to fight fires and the last one to leave. Fighting fires has always been his main focus until the new cook in camp takes a swing at him. On the run from her ex Sarah Jo is trying to lay low as a cook for a group of hotshot firefighters. After a dare from her coworkers Sarah Jo lands herself in a liplock with the hottest and toughest firefighter in camp, Pick Revere. That kiss sets off sparks between the two that could set up a fiery blaze!! Pick is instantly smitten with Sarah Jo but can tell she's running from something. The more time they spend together the more determined Pick is to find out her secrets. Will Sarah Jo finally quit running and let her guard down for the hotshot? When her past catches up with her, will Pick be there fighting with her on the frontline? You'll definitely want to pick up Hung to find out! I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I couldn't get behind the writer's writing style or the constant typos. I had to force myself to finish this book not because there weren't good characters to fall in love with but because the book lagged. I see so much potential with the story but sadly I don't feel like any of it was delivered on. There were a few funny moments and out of the few sex scenes, there were, I only enjoyed the shower one. You spend 85% of the book wanting the story to pick up only for the climactic end to one part of the story to end abruptly and the 'HEA' to all happen in the last 10% of the book.
The characters throughout the book are strong and I mean that in both will and the potential for their stories and personalities. I see that this is a Book 1 and I hope Ms. Marsh really takes the time to develop, and expand on, this world in her next books set within the Fire Camp. Strangely, although I didn't like this book I would look forward to seeing Hunter and Colts stories and seeing how the Rogues' world grows and hopefully improves.
My first and last book by this author. I felt like the book started in the middle of a story, like a few chapters where missing. Nowhere near enough dialogue between characters to make you believe there could be any kind of relationship, I felt more effort was put into things that where not important and the characters spent more time in there own heads describing the same things over and over. Zoned out 25% into the book couldn't finish the book and I can usually finish a bad story!!!
“I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book” This had me lost and confused from the very beginning. The title suggests that the story will be centered around the male lead character. But it's not. It's more centered around the female lead character. And throughout the whole book, it had me playing a game of guess. I wasn't too thrilled.
Quite disappointed! The story blurb had me hooked, but I struggled with the writing style and couldn’t connect with the characters. I kept waiting for the story to ramp up, get some action but found it dragged and I lost my desire to continue. Sorry, but it’s a DNF for me.
Both Pick Revere and Sarah Jo Hill both seem to talk to the reader. It’s a great way to get a reader involved. You find yourself wanting to know what each character is going to tell us next. But one difference between Pick and Sarah Jo is that she seems a little nervous and uncomfortable. Pick is a no excuses, no flattery kind of guy and he’s not one to impress the ladies.
It’s been a while since I picked up a book by this author but this just seemed a little different from what I’ve read before – or at least remember that I’ve read before. I think that the difference is that I found the beginning a little hard to get into. It also made it easy to put the book down and to also step away for a while.
Our author always seems to know the right combination when she creates heat between her main characters and she doesn’t disappoint here. My problem came in other scenes. My mind is trying to process the scene and then it seems like it starts to go in a totally direction so I start to feel lost and couldn’t figure out the detour. When the girls get together, I felt like I was among friends. Then comes the turning point. I got halfway into the story and it made me glad that I stuck it out.
I didn’t feel anything for our main characters at the beginning but it’s that halfway point where I start to warm up to them. Part of it, I think, was the introduction of a character from Sarah Jo’s past. It was as if something clicked, or turned on, for me. The ending didn’t feel final. It felt that there was a happiness but I couldn’t tell you if it was for now or ever after – you will have to decide for yourself. Just because this one didn’t ring my bell doesn’t mean I won’t read more of this author’s work or check out the next book in this series.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I'm not sure if the story was too short or if it was the writing, but it was very disjointed and surface level
The relationship: every one of their encounters were started and ended by her (Sarah Jo) and they were all sexual in nature. There was zero development of the relationship and at the very end she . As a reader I never felt a connection to either of the characters, none actually as the side characters are very much side characters. I liked Pick but there is not enough substance to form an attachment.
There were a few different story lines: the break up club, the cooks, the hot shots, the ex-boyfriend, the relationship with pick. All had potential to be good aspects of the story yet the author never delved in to far into any of them for the reader to gain any attachment. Each were given their 5 min of fame and then she moved on. So again I'm not sure if this story would have benefited from being longer to delve into some of the plot points or if it is the authors writing that glosses over them. It read more like a really detailed out line of a story that just needed to be meated up more. And the transitions between scenes needs some work as well.
The blurb and the intro chapter both make it seam like Sarah Jo actually attacks him with the bat, but while she does go all defensive and have the bat as protection, she NEVER actually advances on him to hit him. So yeah, thats all I have to say about that, but adds to the overall frustration of the plot not caring through. And another question that comes up is HOW in the world did her ex find her? I guess it could have been the post on social media of the kiss, but it would have been nice to have the evil monologue at some point.
I wanted to like this and it has potential to be good, but I found it lacking.
I did enjoy the narration, Rose Dioro is wonderful.
This was actually a mistake. I didn't mean to request to be a reviewer and I was hoping I wouldn't be selected by the author. Well, I did and I wasn't very excited about it. And then I read the book. Aside from the many editing errors and the cheesiness and over-the-top mentions of male genitalia, I really, really liked this book. It was funny, sweet, dramatic, and totally saucy. Absolutely worth the short time it took to read.
Pick is unapologetic, huge, determined, and thrown for a loop by all that is Sara Jo. Sara Jo is quirky, bold, sensual, and obviously hiding from someone. There's all kinds of sparks between and around them and they quickly become more than just interested. When the past catches up with Sara Jo her unlikely knight is willing and patient and, most importantly, he's on her side no matter what "authority" that past holds.
This was a really quick story with what could probably be more HEA than HFN because of the feelings near the end as well as the confessions and concessions, but there's no real mention of the future in concrete terms. Pick was awesome, my favorite in the whole thing, and I did quite like Sara Jo so overall this was a good book. Way more amusing and entertaining than I thought it would be. The title is apt because of the appendage Pick wields, but I was concerned that it would read more like an adult film and have Sara Jo turn into a moody, vapid bimbo. Thankfully that was not the case. I was very happy to be surprised.
Sarah Jo is on the run from her ex who is trying to frame her for a crime she didnt commit. She makes it 300 miles before she is to broke to continue but that is ok because she meets some other women who turn out to be her friend and there for her and give her a job as a cook no matter who bad her cooking is. Pick a Hotshot Firefighter who loves what he does but has never loved a woman gets his first taste in really like when he first sees Sarah Jo and he will stop at nothing to get her to feel the same for him.
What I enjoyed most about Hung is watching Sarah Jo be so strong willed and out there to take care of herself no matter what, to do whatever she needs to survive even if that means she needs to not let herself have feelings for Pick, but then realizing why not live today as tomorrow isnt promised. Pick's feelings for Sarah Jo are growing by the day but he knows she is hiding something big but also not wanting her to run away from him so all he knows is that he needs to get her to stay and be with him forever.
This book is great. I enjoyed reading this story with serious and funny comments with silent dialog to go with it. This book has Sarah Jo out on the run without telling anyone about her true life and what she is running from just that she has a horrible ex, Pick a man who knows what he wants but knows she will spook easily so he times things slow to try to get her to open up and to be with him, with Sarah Jo's ex after her Sarah Jo will soon realize who she can and cant trust and give love another chance. If you like stories like this, then Hung is a must!
Sara Jo was on the run and hiding as a cook in a fire camp. She used to be an in-home caregiver until he boyfriend robbed the elderly woman she was working with and set her house on fire. When Sara Jo told the police what she had seen, no one believed her since her ex was a deputy. Sara Jo ran away to this small town and joined a bad break-up recovery group. After a month at work her fellow cooks dared her to kiss the first fireman to walk in the door. Sara Jo was lucky that she got to kiss Pick a man she was really attracted to. When Sara Jo kissed Pick, it was the opening he needed to make a move on her. He had been watching her but she seemed standoffish. After the super hot kiss he was going to keep going after her until he agreed to go out with him. Plus he could see that Sara Jo was very jumpy and he wanted to help her out. Everything seemed to be going well until the strange deputy drove into camp. This is a good sweet story. Pick was kind, considerate and caring. Sometimes I thought Sara Jo was trying to be too independent.I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through arc.
Pick working in a small town fire department is know by the girls that he has an giant hose. We go into the bar they can hear the break up girls screaming and screeching what they did was have a piñata where they have their pictures of men . They hit it to crack it open with baseball Bats. He saw Sarah Jo around the town but heard she just got a job at the cook at the fire camp. Sarah J sees Pick in the shadows and picks up the bat waiting to take a swing at him so he came slowly into the light and lowered the bat but held onto it. At the camp the other cooks told her that it is customary to kiss the first firefighter that steps up in line. She told them she didn’t think so until she sees that it’s Pick. Time goes by and Pick starts seeing Sarah J she has not told him why she was tense when she saw the cop car. Things are going pretty well they are getting to know each other better. Sarah J ex came looking for her as she is on the run. She can not believe that Thad had found her but she took off before he spotted her. Twists, turns, kidnapping, and arson. Good twists and turns.
A little bit sweet, a little bit suspenseful, and a whole lot funny. Told from both Pick and Sarah Jo's perspectives, I think I had the most fun hanging out in Pick's head. There's a lot of time that he just talks, and thinks, like a teenaged boy and I found that adolescent machismo to be hilarious. Sarah Jo has some serious trust issues. While I understand how they came about, that's not to say I didn't go just the tiniest bit mental when she continually used those issues as a shield to keep from participating in her life. I know high-stress situations can magnify emotions, but I didn't feel like I got to see enough of the relationship between Pick and Sarah Jo develop. I loved seeing her come to the realization that she didn't have to tackle life without any help, though. From the way the book starts, it's no surprise when Pick's ready to go all in. There's a collection of secondary characters in here that almost steal the story and I'm hopeful to see them get their own books in the future. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
Pick is the second in command hotshot at a fire camp. Sarah Jo is on the run and has taken a job as a cook at the same fire camp even though she can’t cook. As a rite of passage, her fellow cooks tell her she has to kiss the first hotshot in the food line one day and luckily for Pick he is the recipient of a steamy kiss. They had definitely noticed each other prior to the kiss but sparks fly after it. Will Sarah Jo trust Pick enough to tell him about her problems? Will her past come back to haunt her? Can Pick protect her? This is the first book that I have read from this author and it was great. I really like Pick and his big burly alpha male attitude with a kind heart. Sarah Jo is strong and stubborn but sweet and sassy too. There is good character development for Sarah Jo but I didn’t feel like I got to know as much about Pick’s background. The writing style is fun and alternating POVs kept the story interesting. I enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down once I started it. I received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily provided an honest review.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. First off, they say you should judge a book by its cover. Well, they should say the same about the title as well. This was a book (for me) that was hard to get into. Don’t get me wrong because it’s a good book but it seems like there was something lacking for me. It takes a while to get to the “good stuff” and the rest just seems….there. He has trust issues (in the book you know why) and he’s a hot as hell guy. They want it each but there are issues (mostly her) and that is that. Got an ex guy who is taking her down because he’s trying to pin a crime on her instead of him. Sounds good right. The book is not long and you get more into it about half way. After reading all the sex they have and her running away from her problems and letting her lover help her (about damn time), the book is over. End was ok and so was the book. I wouldn’t pay any more than .99 for the book or less. This book was more 2.5 stars than 3.0 stars.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This is one of those books that has a great premise, but the execution did not work for me. The story is told in alternating 1st person POV (switching between the two MCs), in the beginning the switches were done on the chapter breaks, but later it was done within a chapter which just made it confusing to keep track of who was narrating. I also never got a good feel for the characters as distinct people, they both read so similar to me it was really hard to keep track of who was talking (and they "talk" a lot to the reader!).
The flow of the story left a lot to be desired as well. There were jumps between scenes that left me struggling to figure out if I missed a few pages. There is a lot of sex in the first part of the book, but not much tension to move the story along. The actual "story" really seems to be towards the end, and then a quick (and to me mostly hard to believe) ending.
This is the first Anne Marsh book I’ve read and what a wild ride. I found an intensity to her writing style - that’s the best way I can describe it - that kept me hooked from the first page until the last. For me, the story hit the ground running and didn’t slow down. Somewhere right before the HEA, I realized I didn’t know anything about H’s family or past, but I was kept so busy in the actual story that I hadn’t noticed, and didn’t feel anything was missing along the way. Usually, I really look for that backstory but I simply didn’t have time to think about it with this book.
The characters were fascinating. I love how Pick was presented as this big, bad, alpha, muscle-mountain of a man, yet proved himself to be more like a squishy marshmallow on the inside. He had no chance, he just fell right at the h’s feet. Poor guy.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I received an ARC of this book in return for my honest review. It's the story of Pick and Sarah Jo and I wasn't sure where the story was going in the first chapter or two. Despite the title (I think it could have a MUCH better title), this book was quite good. It started out a little to heavy on Pick's anatomy but once the story actually began to take shape, I didn't want to put it down. Pick is a fire fighter (battles forest fires) and Sarah Jo works at the camp that feeds the firemen. As the story unfolds, you learn that Sarah Jo is running from something/someone from her past and Pick does his best to start a relationship with her and get her to trust him so he can help her. Her past eventually catches up with her and she has to rely on Pick and his co-workers to help save her and they both learn to let go of their past hang-ups regarding love and relationships and take the leap. It's a fun read.
I read this story as part of an arc program. This was the story of Sarah Jo, a young woman who is on the run from her ex-boyfriend, a cop who framed her for his crimes. Sarah Jo takes a job as a cook in a remote camp for fire jumpers. Sarah Jo tries to keep to herself, but when faced with a hazing of having to kiss the first man in line for food, she thinks she will do it and be done with it. Pick is the first man in line and he sees this an opportunity to get close to Sarah Jo. Pick uses the kiss to make his intentions known that he wants Sarah Jo. Pick is a big strong alpha male who had me laughing with his caveman attitude. Pick knows Sarah Jo is hiding from something and when her ex-boyfriend shows up asking if anyone knows her, his instinct is to protect her and find out if he can help. This was a cute story and I really enjoyed the inner dialog the characters had with themselves. There was humor and a lot of steam. I hope there will be more with this series.
Hung (Mister Hotshot Book 1) by Anne Marsh is a steamy and sweet romantic comedy with wonderful characters. Pick is a drool and swoon-worthy alpha protector. I adore his irreverent, hilarious self talk. He had me in stitches. Sarah Jo is just as witty while struggling to find her way out of a bad situation involving an ex hellbent on punishment. While the relationship of Pick and Sarah Jo seems to move extremely slowly, their chemistry blazes hotter than the wildfires that Pick and his Hotshot crew battles. I love how Pick is so patient, kind and even sweet while having dirty, filthy thoughts. He’s a true guy, a man of few words (which seems to really work for Sarah Jo) and yet he has heart. Overall, a really fun read with plenty of laugh out loud moments as well as those of the steamy variety too. Not to mention the final reveal (words, feelings, the ex resolution) and the HEA.
Hung is the 1st book in Marsh’s Mister Hotshot series. The books don’t have to be read in order. I read the second book in the series first and I was glad that I did as there were several scenes that were mentioned in Hung that had more context in The Big One.
Hung was fun read with some humour thrown in. Pick is a hero that likes the ladies but has never given his heart. It was fun watching him fall in love and seeing how the realization changed his view and actions. Both Pick and Sarah Jo were relatable characters, especially Pick in terms of his feelings for Sarah Jo and how different that was from his previous experiences.
I did have a problem connecting with the characters at times and especialling in terns of the subplot – the ex chasing Sarah Jo. I didn’t like when the characters “talked” to the audience. For me it felt like there was something missing.
I consumed the book as an audio and enjoyed the narrators. They did a good job of voicing the characters.
This book was a really great surprise... With the title I was concerned that it would be all gratuitous sex without enough plot to keep you interested!! But HECK NO this was a great story, which yes had its steamy parts, but also sweet romance, action, suspense and humour!!
I liked having both lead characters points of view, and it was especially fun being in the mind of a strong, well built, capable male and still finding a human being underneath who has fears and concerns and still at times thinks like a teen - a funny one, but just a boy at heart!!
The other great thing about this story is all the other wonderful characters that you start to get to know, and it is great to know that there will be other stories where we can to know them better and watch them fight fires and fight for their HEA!!!
I received an arc of this book and have left an honest and independent review.
Pick and Sarah Jo are fighting fires, making pancakes and falling in love in this new series. Sarah Jo is on the run from bogus charges leveled against her by latest in a longline of terrible exes, although this time this one takes the cake. She is hiding out cooking, if you can call what she does it that 😂, for a bunch of wild fire fighting hotshots. Should be fine as long as she can keep her head down. Too bad one of the guys is determined to heat up something something in the kitchen. Pick is sure that the beautiful Sarah Jo is hiding something but for his most pressing concern that really doesn't factor in. However, the usually no lovey dovey tough guy is all of a sudden brought to his knees by the sassy saucy lady. Now he's just got to convince her to trust him.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
Enjoyable very predictable read. The story is written in dual POV and I like that because then you get all the details to the story. Hot scenes and great chemistry. Most of the story is told by thoughts which made it a bit boring for me. There are not that much happening in the first part of the story but mostly in the end. Therefor it was very difficult for me to get caught by the story. Luckily the story gets more captivating later. After reading the blurb about an abusive ex-cop and Sarah Jo hiding from him I expected a story that was unique. But it was very confusing most of the first part because of lack of description and jumping scenes. This story had a really good theme but did unfortunately disappoint and did not use all the potential it had to be a five-star.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

A hotshot and a cook, two very different types of people but when it comes to attraction and love, they are all the same. Pick battles fire no matter how big or how small it is. Sarah Jo is a cook who is on the run from her past and he knew that she's hiding something. Undaunted, Pick still works on having Sarah Jo share her secrets but as stubborn as she is, it took a long time for her to open up.
I like that the main male character exercised all his patience towards the female character. He never gave up on her and waited until she feels that its the right time to ask help from someone. She may be stubborn and bossy but she wants to be taken care of and loved as well.
Their personalities matched so well and will be a recipe for a happily ever after.
