A dire wolf shifter destined to be an alpha. Lance’s dream is to be able to lead the pack. He’s hellbent on being the alpha. A dire wolf shifter hottie with a big, big secret. Layla’s loved Lance more than she can remember. He’s been her priority. But now she has a new priority. How will that impact her feelings for Lance? A mission and a baby can test the limits of any couple. Except Lance and Layla aren’t a couple. And they have to think of more than just themselves.
This is by far my favourite story in this series so far! Layla and Lance like each other, but neither has the guts to come out and say it. They have a one-night-stand which results in Layla becoming pregnant. She is keeping this pregnancy as a secret and is hiding it well until she tries to pass off motion sickness from air travel long after the plane has landed. She is coerced into telling a friend about her pregnancy and not long afterwards, Layla has gone missing. Feared kidnapped by her friends, the mission they had set out on changes to a rescue and time is of the essence as no one knows for sure if Layla or her baby will be harmed.
The story's well-written, with clean editing and formatting. It charges along at breakneck pace and ties up with a nice, neat bow. The reader spends more time in the characters' heads than the characters spend together. As far as paranormal romances go, the trope is common and there's nothing particularly original about this story.
I'm glad they didn't get a chance to hurt Layla or the baby. I kinda feel bad that Dr Jacoby was destroyed with lab but then he was of the bad guys turned good.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lance and Layla’s story takes a slightly more emotional turn. Layla’s big secret—along with Lance’s alpha ambitions—puts this story in the “will they/won’t they” category with a ticking clock. The baby subplot adds depth and heart, raising the stakes in a very real, human way. Lance is equal parts alpha and vulnerable, while Layla’s devotion and fear make her sympathetic. Their connection feels hard-earned, and the emotional payoff is strong.
