Then the Doorbell Rang is a story that revolves around a girl and her life. The title is interesting so does the plot. The cover could have been better. The story is quite predictable yet the suspense element made it an engaging read. Characterization is clean. Language used is simple and coherent. Book is little bulky yet manageable. It's a one-time read for me

Then The Doorbell Rang by Capri Jalota is an thriller, my expectations had started from the moment reading title which is similar to Agatha's famous novel. The expectation was thoroughly fullfiled. So intriguing with mysteries and emotions.

Story is all about Jane and her life, starting of the story made me to travel throughout the 395 pages where Jane is not interested to celebrate her birthday nor New year and made handful decision then the doorbell rang. Story takes roller coaster ride with Jane's present and past lives.

I loved the way author narrated it made to imagine the roads and places of Dubai, Delhi and Mumbai realistically. Also author given the beautiful flow by opening one knot after another simultaneously.

I believe author have a great way ahead of his this brilliant debut. The simple & lucid language and mysteries, thrill, love, relationships, friendship, life lessons makes good read also not to forgot the one liners which were soothing.

I recommend to all thril lovers and freshers.

This book revolves around Jane's life...the ups and downs she faces.Although this book doesnt belong to a genre I normally read..it kept me interested till the very end....The author has managed to describe the intricacies of human relationships beautifully.By the end of the book i really began to feel for the main protagonist Jane.
I find it difficult to believe this is the author's debut novel.Overall a really good read.

'Love is a feeling that brings happiness in your heart and soul. ' The quote is soothing to hear and read but reality is different. Love is not always about flowers and music. There is a different reality about love and lovers.
Capri Jalota, through his book 'Then the doorbell rang' brings to light, four love stories that are different from each other. The love story of Jane and Uday, Uday and Radha, the love story of Jane's parents and one more love story that I would not want to divulge, in order to avoid a spoiler. The book tells us how different the reality is from dreams. Both Jane and her parents have a strained relation post marriage, which makes her realize that life is a mirage that doesn't always gives us the answers to our unexplored dilemmas. I wouldn't dwell much into the suicide part.

After a bitter relation with her father, Jane's mother behaves tough with Jane, to strengthen her as a woman and to learn to stand up to herself. Jane, who misunderstands this as lack of love and care, hates her mother, till one day, precisely on her birthday which falls on the New year, Jane's mother leaves her husband and daughter to live for herself, after a candid confession. She asks her daughter not to fall in love, not to surrender her dreams to any man and not to forget her self worth. But life has something else in store for Jane, who falls in love with and marries a person whom she knows only for two weeks. Post marriage Jane realizes that her mother was right. Her husband Uday is not longer the one she loved. After four years of restraint, she finally decides to leave Uday, when a tragedy strikes Jane's life. What is the tragedy? What changed Uday? Will Jane and Uday part ways?

The tale is melancholic, and palpable. Author has succeeded in tugging the right string in the heart of the reader. A painful feeling is evident all through the book. The narration and language is powerful and a literary bliss. The language is simple yet enchanting. The characters are realistic and self empowered. Each character is crafted with finesse. The entertainment quotient of the book depends on how much you value the realistic appeal of a story. If you are looking for a puppy love story, the book might not appeal to you but if you are interested in deep emotions depicted without any exaggeration, this is the right book for you.

Her life was a series of misfortunate incidents, she held herself through it. This is was Then The Door Bell Rang is all about.

The book consists of 395 pages which is quite a good number to intimidate someone. But the start had the magic, the author Capri Jalota has made sure the first 100 pages (approx) to be so captivating that the reader is anxious to read the rest.

A book, simply based on one’s life itself is something that the reader can treat themselves with as a break from thrillers, romance and everything else.

Life is all about the thorns in the roses and the book is a better said example.

The book is filled with simplicity, from the start till the end. The author uses easy language which is easy to read by everyone. Though Jane’s life is something that might pass as some serious fault in the stars, the author has written it efficiently enough to not make the reader that it was too obvious.

The book becomes a bit of a drag mid way, though it catches the regular pace later, a reader might lose interest.

The language is simple but some improvement in writing skills and ornamentation would add to the essence of the book.

Book Title:
The title of the book 'Then the door bell rang' is a little long, but indicates the reader the story could be a mystery.

Book Cover :
The book cover is simple. Though it was interesting , the choice could have been better. The cover page wasn't much appealing.

Plot:
The plot revolves around a female character who is the protagonist in the story. The travel with the protagonist from the beginning till the end is a mixture of emotions, relationships and feelings. Though the content mostly deals with human emotions, the presentation was good with suspense as a main ingredient.

Though a known story line, the treatment with few specks of suspense makes the reader get thrilled at some places.

Honestly I had mixed feelings when I finished the book. But definitely I enjoyed the read. The story totally revolves around different kind of relationship with different people. When I saw the title and cover of the book I felt that it’s going to be a suspense thriller. But it turned out be with the flavor of romance with little thriller.

Jane was completely shattered when she loses important persons from her life one after the other. And she comes to know that those people had one face in front of her and an another face right behind her. That two faced people story gave me all interest to read the story furthermore without any second thought.

Jane decides to explore her past life by travelling to India. I was completely hooked up with the story till like 150 pages but after that the story was kind of repetitive. Jane travel exposure was happening almost with every person whoever she meets.

The language was simple and elegant. This book obviously touches the deep root of the love and pain behind it. Jane character was so good that she remained me of every girl who belongs to strong heart category. At times we tend to know who we are only at the right moment. Jane belongs to that side of person. There were very small characters in the story which stands out uniquely with the author portrayal of them.

Overall “Then The Door Bell Rang” handles the contrast relationships in an exquisite way and seized my moment at many places very beautifully.

A wonderful book, worth reading.
Cover is nice, the silhouette background gives a nice touch to it. But I feel it could have been better.
Title is awesome and I liked the way it has been selected aptly according to the story.
Theme is very hard to tell as its filled with conflicting emotions and at some places we learn many things about life.
It starts with the basic fact of Indian society
The book involves emotions, sadness, pain, happiness, jokes, laughter, embarrassment, care, most importantly selfless love. One could feel himself on the main character's shoes and cry every moment as he's acquainted with his story.
My question to myself after reading the book was, "How can life be so cruel to someone?"
Story is awesome and involves many character which I wont disclose as each of them are unique in their own way, so if you want to know more about it, then buy this book today.
The most fabulous thing I loved about this book was its language and to my surprise it was flawless. Though there are some errors in some nook and cranny of the book, editing could have been better, but it can be excused for the moment. Narration was what I found to be remarkably awesome.
A must buy!

Then the Doorbell Rang by Capri Jalota is one of a kind book which gives insight into the life of Jane whose life has taken a 360 degree turn and is now nothing more than a misfortune. It proved me wrong as I expected it to be a crime or thriller material , but this book is something totally different.

The title itself is enough for any bibliophile to pick this book in one go . The intriguing cover is something that can appeal anyone . The blurb if quite good giving the reader the required amount of information and at the same time arising curiosity . The plot is so beautifully crafted that it becomes hard to keep the book away. The first half of the book creates a magical touch which leaves the reader in the state of hallucination.

The simple language without much adornment makes the reader to complete the book in one sitting . The effortless writing by the author will swiftly take you back and forth in the life of the protagonist without any hinderence. At some places it was too descriptive which could have been avoided as it slowed down the pace . Overall a perfect platter with flavours of love , friendship , mystery, solitude and above all LIFE.

Then the door bell rang talks about a girl and her journey through the ups & downs in her life. It may seem boring or monotonous at the beginning, but trust me it's amazing. You just have to bear it till the end. Actually the title is what caught my eyes, it's unique & the way it has been highlighted unleashes a new light in my life. Coming to the cover it's beautiful, no words can describe the way it gives a thriller perspective to my read.
Plot is of a girl who lies in the darkness as life condemns her in various situations, until she finally decides to give up & end everything. However, something happens that changes her entire life. What is that? Did she give up on her life?
Read out to find out more abt it.
Language is exquisite, simple yet blends colourfully throughout the book.
Narration is also quite good.
Characterisation has been done well.
A book worth reading. Would suggest reading during the weekends folks!

Some books you read. Some books you enjoy. But some books just swallow you up, heart and soul"

Isn't it just so great when you find one of those books that completely drags you in and make you fall in love with the characters and demands that you sit on the edge of your seat to know what's coming ahead? "Then The Door Bell Rang" Is one of the those books for me, and fortunately the book accompanied me on my vacation, slumber evenings, beaches, good food and good read.
It is an extremely powerful story of a young girl from her childhood to late 30s, though she had everything a girl can aspire for a roaring career, a loving husband, all the riches in the world, she mourns on her loss and hides herself from life, until one day......

To know more read "Then The Door Bell Rang" And relate to Jane, Rahul and Udhay.

Death and disease are inseparable part of life. One cannot escape from these. Death, divorce, disease, bomb blasts are the theme of this book. Not a very happy and fun book to read.

I thought it to be a mystery thriller kind of book going by the title. It seemed the doorbell rang and some psycho killer enters to slash. Nothing of that kind here. So stay away if you want that.

Jane is an only child of an Indian doctor father and European mother. He goes abroad for study and falls in love with her mom. They marry young and then move to Dubai. As happens they fell out of love and her mother leave his father. Jane stays back with him. She marries Uday after only one week romance and then he dies in an accident. How she copes and what all happens is crux of it.

The book was a mixed bag for me. It was sad. Told from first person’s POV. Then there is Uday’s diary. He had a girlfriend Radha whom he cannot marry due to family disapproval. There are many other characters. Jane also have some rare disease. It is a thick book. It worked in parts but as a whole I was not very satisfied and as it is thick it became difficult to finish.

3/5 stars.

When you start reading chapter 1 and you know the title of the book, you know what you are getting into. This is a thriller but not a crime or murder mystery type of thriller which usually thrillers are synonymous with. There is a lot of heart in this, quite a bit of Bollywood (forced in places, unforced in others), endearing characters who had side roles but left a bigger impact on me than the protagonist who I felt could have been the author at times on his attempt at what a woman might feel. A great first attempt as a debut novel , some of the storylines were too over the top dramatic but I guess the author was trying to explore the mish mash of relationships at varying levels. A breezy masala read.

Received the book in exchange for an honest review.

I have started my new year with reading this book! Thank to my friend for this book. For me it was a good read, this is a one time read. I liked the way the author has included all the things that all are needed for a book to be perfect. The Plot is nearly perfect could have been better, the characters are nicely presented .
Reading the title I was guessing it can be a horror or a murder mystery! Title justified the story. Language is lucid and the narration is in flow. Simple yet intriguing story inside! I have enjoyed reading! Grab your copies from amazon before they say its out of stock! 4 Star to this Script

Then The Doorbell Rang begins with Jane thinking about jumping off her balcony and killing herself. Then, the story moves through multiple flashbacks in order to explain her reasons for wanting to do so, and her life in general.

The story was well written, well planned and easy to follow despite the multiple flashbacks. Though the flashbacks oftentimes weren't written in the correct tenses, which irked me a lot.

The characters were real, well created and had their own personalities. There were, of course, a lot of characters, but it was easy to keep track of them.

All in all, Then The Doorbell Rang was an entertaining, interesting read and I'm glad I read it!

Book Review: Then The Door Bell Rang
Book: Then The Door Bell Rang
Author: Capri Jalota

What happens when you lose everything of your life?
I Don't want to disclose the suspense here. So, Read the book & you will get an inspiring answer.

Today, I'm writing about one such book which I recently came across. The title of the book was appealing enough for me to pick it up . This book by Capri Jalota is a story of a girl who experiences the different situations in life and finally decides to fight back and live it at her own terms. Story is well narrated and keeps you engaged until it gets finished. The situations of life of the girl and how she manages to get the victims caught is awesome.

It is about a young girl named Jane who moves to Dubai, Marina. A beautiful, rich and successful young woman who Jane's life was a series of karmic connection, love, lost of everything and the only option left to be fight back, she held herself through it. Then the Doorbell Rang is about Jane’s roller-coaster journey as she explores the mystical phenomenon called Life. This is was Then The Door Bell Rang is all about.

There are good books, there are great books and then there our books which touch our lives in a very special ways. They tell stories which inspire us, make us happy, surprise us, tales which we instantly connect with, stories which make us pick the book up again and again, and "Then the door bell rang" is one of them. The story is compelling and held my full of attention. I was reading this book with my younger sister and we both also equally enthralled by the thrilling work within the book. book impeccably depicting the true meaning of life. I would recommend it for people who want something new.

Interesting synopsis–

One fine morning, Jane wakes up and stands upon the ledge of her 18th floor flat in Dubai Marina. Till a few years back, she was everything that would make anyone jealous – beautiful, rich and successful. But then the wheels of time turned. Today, she is miserable and lonely. Would she get over a deception? Can she forgive herself for deserting a friend? Would she ever find true love? Will karma get the better of her or will life give her another chance to correct the wrongs?

Then the Doorbell Rang by Capri Jalota is (very) loosely based on the story of protagonist Jane, and it is a book that is very easy to read. The cover page was good but could have been better. This was a beautiful story. The setting was vivid and the plot was thorough and well written. I learned much from this book and I could picture the vivid scenery. The way it was written was just so beautiful. Scenes that I would have otherwise found awkward were handled tenderly with grace.
Jane's tale is one that deserves fleshing out; I was surprised how much I was taken in by Jane and felt emotionally connected to her. I struggled to get into this, but once I did it was much better and easily held my attention.

Then The Doorbell Rang is the story of Ms.Jane who is lonely and depressed. She is guilty that she couldn't give the happiness of being a father to Uday, crime of murdering Mahesh, her mom left her, dad's death, separation from friends. When she is about to end her life, door bell rings which turns her life totally. This book depicts the ups and downs of her life and how she manages to be strong. Characterisation of Jane is perfect. Language is easy and I loved reading this. To say anything more will kill the suspense the author has given for the readers.

REVIEWED BY SOHINEE DEY

The first thing that I noticed about this book was its title. The title, Then The Doorbell Rang really piqued my interest. This book was sitting on my shelf for sometime now because I had to complete writing reviews of some other books and all the while I was thinking when I’ll get to it finally. The cover though not much ornamental; that half ajar door definitely suits the title. I am kind of in for cover which gives off dark vibes.

Then The Doorbell Rang, the debut novel of Capri Jalota explores some sad realities of human life.

Published by Inkstate, an imprint of Leadstart Publishing, Then The Doorbell Rang is narrated from a first person’s point of view. Stretching over 395 pages, the book can easily intimidate a reader who is not very fond of lengthy books. But, me being me, who loves lengthy books, I managed to make it till the end. Featuring a female protagonist, Then The Doorbell Rang speaks all about Jane’s life.

Jane had everything. From materialistic things to loving and caring parents up until she grew up to eighteen years old. It was then that she lost her mother and in the most important period of a girl’s life, she was left alone to deal with her problems and her life. So she moves on with her life, exploring life on her own. She gets married and her married life was going well until another tragic event shows up at her doorstep. She loses her husband in a car accident. Sometimes life throws us such curveballs that we never see coming. After everything that happens in Jane’s life, she decides to make a fresh start, breaking away from the shackles of her past. Even in Dubai she doesn’t seem to get any relief from the problems that keeps following her everywhere she goes. Even after being at the receiving end of so many blows, she doesn’t give up. Cutting through her miseries, she proves to herself that she is strong enough to withstand them and still find a reason to live.

Even though she is living, she isn’t enthusiastic about her life, she doesn’t enjoy it. She never celebrates her birthday or any special event. Here’s where the title comes into play. Then the doorbell rings in her dull and boring life.

After the title, the next thing that caught my eye was the blurb. It is very well-written. Giving away the theme but disclosing the actual plotline.

I did like the narration. The first person POV was well-maintained throughout the book and unlike some authors who tends to mess up while writing in the first person POV, Capri Jalota did a great job carrying out the first person POV. Jane’s character was well-developed. I could really feel her and put myself into her shoes which was a good thing. I also liked the sub-plots interconnected with Jane’s life. New characters were introduced who pushed the plot forward.

Even though the title seemed to fit in with the plot, I was somewhere hoping that this book would be a thriller or a mystery. So, I was a tad bit disappointed when I found out my presumption was wrong.

Overall, I liked the author’s writing style but I would have liked it better if the language was much more intricate. For a debutante, the author has done a pretty good job with the language and I hope that I can get to read a much more developed style of writing in his future books.

Another thing would that at some point, I felt too much details were cramped in which sort of disturbed the flow of the narration.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I dived in hoping for a mystery or a thriller but I got to read an in-depth journey of a woman. Even though the storyline was very different from what I was expecting, I did end up liking it.

For recommendations, I would say that don’t pick up this book thinking that it would be a crime fiction or a thriller, you might find your hopes crushed if you do that. But, if you want to read a person’s life journey, know about all the hardships that might knock a person off, but where being strong is the only option you’ve got, definitely go for this book.

THE TITLE-

The title is perfect and very apt for the book. I really loved the way the author introduces the word “Door” and the way he has used the words “Bell” and “Ringing” to describe it. The title also gives us a philosophical idea of life. The human ego is the ugliest part of man. We lift up men who only show us darkness, and put down those brave enough to show us the light. Likewise, people engage in darkness when it is light outside, and acknowledge the light only when it is dark. We abandon those fighting for us to cheer behind those fighting against us. And, we only remember good people and God when it is convenient for us, and take them for granted because their doors are always open - only to chase after closed doors and personalities void of substance and truth. The title also provides us with the idea of deception as it tries to comprehend the fact that Mindfulness helps us get better at seeing the difference between what’s happening and the stories we tell ourselves about what’s happening, stories that get in the way of direct experience. Often such stories treat a fleeting state of mind as if it were our entire and permanent self.

REVIEW OF THE BOOK-

The plot is amalgamated with several themes, the first one being loneliness. Jane’s characterisation portrays the fact that life is loneliness, despite all the opiates, despite the shrill tinsel gaiety of "parties" with no purpose, despite the false grinning faces we all wear. And when at last you find someone to whom you feel you can pour out your soul, you stop in shock at the words you utter - they are so rusty, so ugly, so meaningless and feeble from being kept in the small cramped dark inside you so long. Yes, there is joy, fulfilment and companionship - but the loneliness of the soul in its appalling self-consciousness is horrible and overpowering.
I had also loved the theme of Time and the way the author had used it to metaphorise Jane’s change in the course of life. Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.
We have to allow ourselves to be loved by the people who really love us, the people who really matter. Too much of the time, we are blinded by our own pursuits of people to love us, people that don't even matter, while all that time we waste and the people who do love us have to stand on the sidewalk and watch us beg in the streets! It's time to put an end to this. It's time for us to let ourselves be loved. The plot also focuses on true love and the quest to find it.
Apart from the themes I also loved the suspense which was pertaining throughout the plot. It was really thrilling to hunt down the answers to the questions would Jane get over a deception? Can she forgive herself for deserting a friend? Would she ever find true love? Will karma get the better of her or will life give her another chance to correct the wrongs?
If you wish to get the answers of the above questions,

Do buy a copy of the book from

Then the doorbell rang the story of Jane and how her how life changes completely and takes a 360 degree turn.
Cover - A brilliantly done piece of art. The cover will attract any bibliophile towards itself. The front cover shows an opening door from which light emerges. The other part of the cover is totally black with the name of the novel and the author's name written in a pale yellow shade. The back cover has the picture of a woman. All this sums up to make a beautiful cover for the book and I don't think that there could have been a better cover for it.

The title and the blurb of Then The Doorbell Rang is very intriguing, as it made me feel like it's a thriller or mystery read. Instead it's emotional and touching story of Jane's life and her different relationship. The story revolves in different country and state Dubai, Delhi, Mumbai.

Story revolves around a single child, Jane. Her mother is British and father is Indian. How her parents fell in love, and her years growing showed different side of her parents. Her strict mother always wanted her to be an Independent women, and she didn't like it because reading took her whole life and she couldn't enjoy being a child. Until on her birthday 31 Dec 2005, she woke up and found her mother's letter revealing many truths she never knew existed in their life. Was she wrong through out her childhood about her mother? Will she became an Independent women, that her mother wanted her to become?

As the stories goes, there are comes multiple stories intervened with Jane's life. Steve and Leena, her relationship with her in-laws (in Delhi), Rahul and his social services, who are Pinky and Shallu?

New Year's Eve, 31 Dec also Jane's birthday holds a very special/horrifying place in Jane's life. This date has many a times mingled with her fortune. All things that we think shouldn't happen on one's birthday happens to Jane. To find about what events I am referring to, you need to read the book.

Things that didn't worked out for me...
There were parts where story felt like too descriptive and could have cut it short. Uday’s dairy, felt it can be made into a separate story of a book.
Sometimes, the sentences where too short, and there were few grammatical errors.

I would surely recommend this book to anyone who want to experience Life's journey through Janes hardships. She was a successful Independent women, yet there were MANY things that were missing in life. 'Everything at the end will make sense', is what book has taught me.

I picked this book as I was very intrigued by the title and the book cover too didn’t reveal much but was lovely though. This book is a debut novel by the author and let me congratulate him for a book really well written.
This book is the story of Jane. She is the only child whose parents are from different countries. Her mother is British and father is Indian. The book starts in a very intriguing way. It made me very curious about what was happening in Jane’s life. It is the New Year’s eve and her birthday on the next day but instead of being excited she is very anxious and disturbed. What could be the reason for this? This question is what the book tries to answer and the book is a journey into Jane’s past, her life events and it gives us a glimpse into who is Jane a person, her life choices, the consequences and what does she learn from what life and people in it are trying to teach her. In this journey you start by feeling bad for her and then you pity her but end up loving her. It’s commendable that the author manages to elicit so many emotions for the same character from me.
What I liked in the book:
1. The writing style is very lucid and uncomplicated.
2. It was very descriptive and in some places may be it could have been avoidable.
3. Loved the way Uday proposes to Jane, the poetry was very good,
4. There were many beautiful lines and quotes in the narrative. There were some really good quotes that I would keep re reading.
What I didn’t like:
I feel that the story could have been tighter and crisp. Too much description and many events that did not help in the progress of the story very much. I couldn’t understand why one chapter was Jane’s diary entry when the whole story was told in Jane’s POV in first person.
All in all a very good read interspersed with lot f life lessons and some very beautiful lines to cherish nd save and re read. A very good debut novel by the author. I would love to read more of his work.

Title: Then The Doorbell Rang

Author: Capri Jalota

Publishers: Leadstart Publishers

Publication Date: 2nd August 2017

ISBN-13: 9789352019502

Number of Pages: 395

What if you see your life degrading day by day? What if you start losing all your dear ones slowly and slowly? Will you be able to survive under such severe and bitter circumstances? Then The Doorbell Rang by Capri Jalota is a romantic thriller and a treasure chest of emotions. The book is written in an informal tone and is the first-person narrative. The entire plot revolves around the narrator of the story Jane. When she was young she hated her mom badly as she used to force her to secure good marks in academics and also participate in extra curricular activities. She felt that she never got motherly love from her mother ever. She neither had hopes from her father as he was always busy with his work and never gave any importance to family. She also loses her beloved Uday one day. Her life changes entirely after she is enlightened about her mother’s secrets after her death. After losing everyone in her life what will she do? Will she isolate herself from the world or will she fight for happiness?

From the start to the end this book was filled with intense emotions. I badly wept while I read the book. I could strongly connect with the emotions of Jane. It was a perfect page-turner book. The title of the book is apt to the story. The blurb has been crafted really well. The cover of the book is simple yet attractive. The plot was very emotional and inspirational as well. Overall, it was a worthwhile read. I would recommend this book to all those who are into reading romantic thrillers.

The title of the book 'Then the door bell rang' is a little long, but indicates the reader that the story could be a mystery. The book cover could have been better and relatable to the plot.

The book revolves around the story of the protagonist Jane who was deprived of love and care from her early days. Though her parents cared for her, they failed to show it to their daughter which brought out serious depression in the lil girl. And later when destiny separates her from her loved one, she was left with no hope to live.

What works for TTDBR is the way the author brings in new characters, keeping the flow of the book alive. From the deceased Uday, Jane’s husband, whose personal diary brings with it, a fair share of worms and heart aches, to his doting parents and her relationship with them which only grows after Uday’s death, to the surprising paramour Rahul, who is but a fleeting presence, a phantom whom Jane chases for the first half of the week to other characters, nurses, best friends, a supportive boss, strangers who become more than family and so on.

And yet what prevails is a sense of death throughout. It almost seems that death itself is the protagonist who is taking the plot forward. Mortality pervades through the novel, as each death takes the protagonist further in her search (for answers, truth, life?) across borders.

This book is a very good example of fiction where the author has weaved the story of a lady and different phases of her life which she has gone through. Story line is full of ups and down which keeps you excited and concerned till the end. Few scenes are created very dramatic. You flow with the book and started sharing joy and sorrow with the characters, which is the actual beauty of the book.

When you are too much into reading, you need a book that calms you down. Such books take you away from the regular stories and give your mind a break. This break and pleasure of reading something different are good in most of the cases. It was good in this case as well. I give it 4 stars out of 5 and here is my review of it.

I was glad to find out that this was a thick book. Because somewhere or the other I believe that someone can write a thick book only if the content is sound. The book revolves around a female protagonist. There are too many twists and turns in the story which has made it interesting. Too many emotions involved and the story proceeded in an unexpected manner which was a treat for me while reading. This story is her struggle with depression and what all happened with a little girl when she could not get too much attention when she was a kid. Read the book to find it out.

The cover is simple. Before reading the book, I found the cover boring and even the title. But after reading the story I felt that both of them were apt for the story. The plot is also good and so is the narration. Simple language has been used in the story. Therefore, you will not find any difficulty in reading this book. It was a gripping read overall and I enjoyed reading it. Some errors disappointed me though while reading but the story covered it up.

Pick up this book if you are looking for a different kind of story and are not afraid of reading thick books.

Blurb:

One fine morning, Jane wakes up and stands upon the ledge of her 18th floor flat in Dubai Marina. Till a few years back, she was everything that would make anyone jealous – beautiful, rich and successful. But then the wheels of time turned. Today, she is miserable and lonely. Would she get over a deception? Can she forgive herself for deserting a friend? Would she ever find true love? Will karma get the better of her or will life give her another chance to correct the wrongs?

My Take on this read:

The book revolves around four lover stories .Cover is a turn off to be candid .Jane's side of the story is beautifully unfolded by the penman .Aftermath of marriage in her life is displayed in a synchronous mannerism .The journey of Jane after discovering Uday's diary does some wonders overall .The narrators from Jane's point of view makes the read a lucid one .Some of the details about human emotions are well handled .You would be tied enough as the author has the wonderful gift of explaining each of the essential scenes .

Places of mention were equally amusing in explanation .Overall ,the sympathiser in a typical reader would fall for Jane or atleast I did .

Review: This book is author Capri Jalota's debut novel. The main theme of the book is the continuous ups and downs of the journey everyone undertakes, called life. It also includes looking at it through different perspectives instead of one and understanding all pieces of the puzzle which could come together in the end.

Pros: The books expands the idea of "There are two sides of a coin" very well. It explains a situation from the point of views of different characters, this helping us to empathize with them and making us realize that each one of us has a different take on a single event and react to it in a different way. The reader can find some good pieces of advice scattered in the book. The many twists and turns in the tale made sure that the story wasn't stagnant.

Cons: I felt that the plot wasn't quite solid but instead just went with the flow, which made it feel like reading a biography. Sometimes, the conversations between the characters felt forced and tedious to read. A few parts of the book were quite slow paced.

Conclusion: It is a book that is neither too heavy, not too light, neither too fast paced, not too slow. Give it a try.

The title Then The Doorbell Rang itself attracts you as the title is very intriguing. It makes you feel you are heading towards a horror or mystery or detective read.

But it's neither of the three. The story deals with the nitty-gritty of human emotions and relationships.

The story deals with the life of Jane, her relationships, her emotional upheaval since childhood especially after her mom’s departure. Due to this, she is unable to attach herself emotionally to anyone. But when she stumbles upon her husband Uday’s diary after his death she is perplexed and sets off to find the truth and set things right.

The author has done a good job in describing in depth Jane’s past and how it affected her present and future.

Though the book is addictive, in some places the pace is slow and one might feel lost. Few typing errors can be detected which could have been avoided. While there are a couple of entries in Uday’s journal why only one entry of Jane’s has been shown?

Other than these few points, the author’s debut book is a good read.

A nice book. The title of the book is so intriguing that it kind of lured me to grab the book. The cover also complemented very well. This story revolves around Jane and her disheveled life. Characterisation has played an important role in the story. The character of Jane is so intricately designed that you'll pity her in the beginning but end up falling in love with her. The suspense element kept me glued to the story till the end. The emotional touches here and there added the cherry on the cake. The way the author has described Jane's journey is appreciable and relatable as well. The language is good but could have been a bit more furnished though. There are a few grammatical errors which are worth neglecting though. The theme is really wonderful.
