Outstanding history of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders (ie. NNSH), a Canadian Regiment that fought in, amongst other battles, World War II. William Bird's account is very detailed and heart felt as he lost his only son, an officer with the NNSH days after June 6, 1944 (ie. D Day) in the Battle of Caen. Mr. Bird was a decorated WWI veteran, which inspired his son to enlist. The book reads like a reference book due to the immense detail. The details were provided by countless interviews Mr. Bird conducted after WWII with surviving NNSH members in the late 1940's. I used it as an excellent resource in writing my own book "Stormin Norman: Born to Battle" due to be published by Friesen Publishing this summer about one member of the NNSH. If you are a WWII history buff, specifically Canadian war history, this is a must read.
