Sophie Kinsella first hit the UK bestseller lists in September 2000 with her first novel in the Shopaholic series – The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (also published as Confessions of a Shopaholic). The book’s heroine, Becky Bloomwood – a fun and feisty financial journalist who loves shopping but is hopeless with money – captured the hearts of readers worldwide. Becky has since featured in seven further bestselling books, Shopaholic Abroad (also published as Shopaholic Takes Manhattan), Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic & Sister, Shopaholic & Baby, Mini Shopaholic, Shopaholic to the Stars and Shopaholic to the Rescue. Becky Bloomwood came to the big screen in 2009 with the hit Disney movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, starring Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy.

Sophie’s novel, Surprise Me, published in February 2018, presents a humorous yet moving portrait of a marriage—its intricacies, comforts, and complications. Surprise Me reveals that hidden layers in a close relationship are often yet to be discovered.

Sophie wrote her first novel under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, at the tender age of 24, whilst she was working as a financial journalist. The Tennis Party was immediately hailed as a success by critics and the public alike and became a top ten bestseller. She went on to publish six more novels as Madeleine Wickham: A Desirable Residence, Swimming Pool Sunday, The Gatecrasher, The Wedding Girl, Cocktails for Three and Sleeping Arrangements.

3 STARS!!

This was a very cute read, I read it in an hour and got a few laughs and chuckles out of it and I really liked that about this book. I'd say if you're looking for a very light, fluffy, and funny read this would be for you or your daughter, son, younger sister, brother, niece or nephew haha. I do have to say normally I wouldn't read something like this but since it was sent to me as PR mail I decided to check it out. I have a thing for magic so I think that's mostly why I decided to give it a go too. My eleven year old sister is interested in reading it too so that's a plus. All in all, as I said it was a cute, fun read, nothing heavy or dark about this one and it was a very fast read as well.. :)

Fairy Mom and Me is the first book in a new children's series by one of my favorite authors, Sophie Kinsella.

I decided to read this book with my 8 year old niece and she absolutely loved it. The UK version says that it is for 5-7 year olds. And while I do think that kids as young as 5 might enjoy the story, I don't know many 5 year olds that read 100+ page books.

My niece is 8 years old and the book was perfect for her because we would take turns reading the book.

The narrator is Ella. Her mom looks like a regular mom most of the time. But she can turn into a fairy. Ella has a bratty next door neighbor Zoe. Neither me nor my niece liked Zoe at all. She was very mean.

The story was really enjoyable. It was funny. My niece really enjoyed the spells. And she thought that it would be cool if it was real (that your mom could turn into a fairy).

Ella's mom was really sweet, but in many ways she was a hot mess. She was really bad at doing magic. So everything she tries to do ends up all wonky.

My niece really loved this book. She hated when we had to stop reading to go out. And she begged me to start again when we got home. Also we didn't have time to finish it the first day. When she came over the next day she immediately wanted to read it. She was sad when it ended and was happy to see that there would be a book two in the series.

Overall, I think that this is a wonderfully cute book for young girls. It is fairly long, but does have some pictures. It is the perfect book to read with a child.

Thanks to netgalley and Penguin Random House Canada for allowing me to read this book.

Preslatko!
Ilustracije su savršene. 😍

Fairy Mom and Me is the first book in Sophie Kinsella’s first ever children’s series, with a focus on family, magic, and fun!

Ella Brook has a bit of a family secret. Her mother is a fairy and one day she will be one too. The secret would be easy to keep, but her mom has a bit of trouble with remember her spells and it causes a bit of mayhem here and there. This is such a light-hearted and fun little set of stories, each one focused on a particular problem that she or her mother try to tackle. Each story touches on running themes such as patience, support, integrity, and friendship. I love the close relationship Ella has with her mother, and how she looks up to as a fairy even though she messes up more spells than she gets right. It’s so rare to see a book that focuses not only on issues that children have to navigate but to also see a parent going through those same issues, I think it does wonders in letting kids know that adults make mistakes too.

This is not my typical type of reading even when I was a kid, as it’s a bit too cutesy for my tastes but I can see the over the top adorableness would work well for the younger kids. The physical copy also has really cute illustrations to look at while you read.

I personally listened to the audiobook version of this and think it worked quite well. Cassandra really nails the voices and brings forward a lot of enthusiasm to the reading.

Overall I think this would a good one for young readers, with plenty of little lessons to be learned and fun to be had.

I will try everything Sophie Kinsella writes at least once... I've not always been super enthusiastic (some of the most recent Shopaholic books were painful) but I've had awesome surprises (Finding Audrey is perfection) so when I've heard she had written a middle grade book about fairies of all things, I was very excited!

And now that I've read it, I'm glad I did... it's super cute and pretty funny, with some Bewitched vibes (okay, okay, Samantha would never be as incompetent as Ella's mum but anyone remembers Aunt Clara?).

Definitely the kind of book I'd enjoy reading with a young kid. And yes, I will read the next ones in the series.

Yea—Sophie Kinsella for kids! I read this with my 8-yr-old daughter and we loved it. She loved the silliness of the spells and the awful messes the Fairy Mom got herself into. I loved the good choices most of the characters eventually made after learning from their mistakes, and also how Ella reacted to her not-best friend, realizing that not everyone is nice but we can choose how we respond. We both loved the cupcakes! Nice to see a fairy book with substance for this age. Can’t wait for this sequel!

Mummy Fairy and Me was our book at bedtime this week. DGD#1 is a reluctant reader so I decided that I would read it to her in the hope that she would one day want to revisit this story and read it herself. And she absolutely adored Mummy Fairy and Ella! The book is divided, not into chapters, but individual stories around a particular spell cast by Mummy Fairy who is not quite the best fairy in town! Her way of changing from Mummy into Mummy Fairy was one of DGD#1 favourite parts of the book as she also had to partake in the actions and shout “MARSHMALLOW!” during the transformation!

We both had such fun reading this book about a very modern fairy and her fairy-in-training daughter. We interacted with the storyline, joined in with the spells and laughed at the situations Mummy got them all into. We were both quite sad to get to the end but we have been cheered up considerably by the news that Mummy Fairy will return later on in the year.

I highly recommend Mummy Fairy and Me to read to, or with, your little person and I’m sure that more confident readers will be heard giggling away from behind the pages of this wonderfully charming children’s book.

I read this story with my daughter. She really enjoyed it and didn't want me to stop. It was also easy for her to read out loud to me. We're already excited about the next book in this new series. Sophie Kinsella truly understands a child's voice and what would interest young readers. The illustrations were really cute and my daughter laughed out loud from them.

I felt it ended a bit abruptly, but knowing there is another book coming helps. The chapters were a bit long and didn't really connect to each other, so it seemed more like a series of short stories.

Overall, it was fun, humorous, and imaginative. I applaud Sophie for her first attempt at children's fiction.

This is a story about Ella who has a mummy fairy, in fact, all of the female members of the family are fairies, including Ella—well, one day, when she is grown up. Ella loves the idea of magic because it makes life easier, but easier doesn't mean better. Ella learns that sometimes it's much better when you do something with your hard work!

When I picked up this book, I expected a fun-light story about magic and everything surrounding it, but, on the contrary, this book taught children to give their best at everything they did without cheating, and that was what made me love the story.

Picked this one off the juvenile shelf to read as I know Sophie Kinsella from her other books and thought I’d give it a try. It’s been a long time since I’ve picked up a juvenile book, so there were a couple times that I thought it was a little cringey. I think it’s a great family book though with multiple stories in one book, the plot focused mainly on a mother and daughter, and it had some great family discussion questions in the back. It was a sweet read.

A friend of mine suggested reading a book of the author, Sophie Kinsella, for one of the reading challenges. I had lots of reading challenges at hand, so I decided to read the shortest book - it was a children’s book.

However, the style of the book was very impressive, and I’m certain that her other books, which aren’t targeted at children, would be very enjoyable too, as this book was very entertaining.

The magic world in this book differs from traditional magic, where you find the tall, pointed witch hats and the magic wand...

The magic wand found in this book is electronic - something very cute.

The relationship between the mother and the daughter drew me in, as it was built on friendship and understanding.

And, the antagonist being the neighbour’s daughter, a kid who tricks adults into thinking they’re very well-behaved when they’re certainly a bully when it comes to other kids, showing their true, dark colours.

Beautiful were the morals that the author tried to engrave into her little audience, and especially at the end where the protagonist did not like cheating and preferred upholding a trust.

I can enthusiastically say that I’m looking forward to reading more of her books, especially the ones targeted to an adult audience.

I think it would be so cool if my mom was a fairy mom just like Ella's mom. But it is not easy being a fairy because sometimes your spell doesn't go the way you wanted it to go. It is funny that she doesn't use a wand, she uses a computawand. And I would like to thank my dad for reading this book with me. I read this book with my mom so that is pretty funny because the title is fairy mom and me. Thank you Sophie Kinsella for writing such a great book.

"Io e Fata Mammetta" di Sophie Kinsella
Pagine 171

In primis ho trovato odiosa Fata Mammetta.

This is a cute, silly little book. I think it would be great to read to a daughter. It humorously teaches lessons. Most of the characters do something silly and then learn from their mistakes and change their ways. I like how the book was divided into shorter stories of the specific spells. I think it also teaches that although parents try their hardest to be, they are not perfect and are doing their best.

I was trying to give the book the benefit of the doubt, as I'm not a seven-year-old-girl, and so not the target audience, but,I do love other books for this age group, so that really wasn't the problem. In the end, the book was a little too heavy-handed, while still managing to be insubstantial. It will certainly have its fans, but I just wish it had been a little bit more fun.

Short and sweet. I listened to this one with my grandson who is 8 years old. Such a very cute and whimsical story. Very well done and not too silly. My grandson even enjoyed it and wishes that he had a fairy mom now. A lot of good lessons in this book and I love the questions at the end to make the parent and child talk and address different situations.
