The Descent

Rate this book
Twenty years ago, the Black Flu decimated the population of the world.
The infected died and then rose again as flesh-eating zombies.
The UK’s response was to create Safe Zones, providing sanctuary for those that survived. Chloe only barely made it to safety and now her daughter Sammie wants to go outside.
When Sammie makes a discovery that could bring hope to all the survivors, one man’s twisted greed turns that dream into a nightmare.

I received an ARC for an honest review.
I highly recommend this book!!! It was even better than the first one! Really good! A few years has passed and we follow the daughter of one of the main characters from the first book. A MUST READ!!

Like the first book, I truly enjoyed this one (listened to the fullcast audio adaptation on Nextory)
The characters writing is still the great strength of Suzanne Sussex : you get attached to them immediately, and their evolution is beautiful and meaningful. This story though felt a little bit more rushed, as though Suzanne Sussex absolutely wanted to write a trilogy, even though I would have adored having another book so she could develop more.

[SPOILERS]
The character of Brian for example is absolutely detestable and we love to hate him, but he's maybe a little bit TOO much of a villain. I would have loved to see him change : most of the characters have a "good" evolution, I would have loved to see him going bad.

Also the relationship between Sam and Lucca feels rushed. One day after they meet they're already in love and everything....Hmmf. I'd have liked it to stretch longer.

The second book is really a very smooth continuation of the original story. The characters from the first book have survived years into the future. Now more mature & with heavy responsibility. The daughter of the main character from the first book is now 19 & taking on her own roles within the community. All seems well until something & someone creates a shocking turn of events. Well written & fleshed out characters. Storyline keeps you engaged & everyone loves a villain. Great series!

Not as good as book 1

This book while good, was not as good as book 1. The characters who survived book 1 that we came to know and care for in book 1 are hardly in this book making me less interested

Worthy of a read

Slow, it took the last 100 pages to get the story moving, that said it's an enjoyable read, easy with great descriptions. If you like post apocalyptic / dystopian stories then this series is worth picking up.

I’m not a fan of the change in the main character and how the original characters were pretty much abandoned. The story, once again, felt to just skim the surface and didn’t really have a lot of meat to it.

like the first book, i was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of the audiobook and it was brilliant, and of course, our fellow human race is even worse than zombies... really recommend for you all to listen for yourself

Wow, so good!

This series is really good! This isn't my usual genre, however, I'm enjoying it. Obviously, there have been things that have happened that were upsetting, but the story is very well written and I love the characters! I'm ready to read the last book in the series.

Good read

Good storyline and flows well. Brian is a typical wannabe leader with no idea how to treat real people, looking forward to next book.

A well balanced book, not too much gore or violence. Has action, sadness, and some funny moments. Mostly female lead characters.

I wasn't sure how I felt about such a large amount of time passing between the first and second books, but it's worked really well and it's a story that might have felt forced had it taken place soon after the events of the first book.

Main characters from the first book take a back seat in this one, focusing instead on a few new people. The new characters are written equally as well as the ones from the first book, with particularly believable protagonists and antagonists. The primary villain is a particularly repellent scumbag and somebody you really want to get his comeuppance.

As with the first in the series, it's a book I would heartily recommend to any fans of the genre, as there is a lot to like here

Amazing read

I was in grossed in this book from the start!! It is even better than book 1! The plot as a whole is brilliantly thought out and so complex. The new characters are genuinely great, you get to know each person whether you like them or not. so realistic, even Brian who I'd happily see as zombie food. You really feel everything with this story, the author lays it all out on the line, the highs and lows of humanity. Looking forward to book 3, I can't imagine whats in store for zone e now.

Very good read i would recommend this book to anyone who has a good idea of what the stories are in the same way that is both in terms of the amount of time it took me to see how the stories are in the same way as to make sure you don't forget about our own lives

I liked the way the stories are in the process of being able to see how much I love the stories that are available for purchase in the same way as a whole new level of the same way that you can use the same thing as it has been for years and have a great time reading

Great Read!

I was left a little discouraged at the end of book 1 but the author redeemed herself in book 2 for sure! A whole new set of characters with ties to the first worked really well and she dove further in their development. The storyline created a nerve-wracking page turner! On to book 3!!!

So much goodness in this!!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was so happy to read this book.

It has such a good story line with a nice human touch. The baddy guy is such a nasty piece of work. The main characters, Sammie and Luca and even Joe are my faves. I really can't wait to read more

Completely blown away, I didn't put this down. The time span did not bother me at all, I thought it worked perfectly. Has you on the edge from the first page. Excited for more
