Lost Files #14: Last Defense reveals what happens to Malcolm Goode after the warships descend. To get to the president's secret bunker near Washington, DC, he'll have to fight his way through a war zone.

Lost Files #15: Hunt for the Garde picks up after the events of The Fate of Ten, following the stories of three different Mogadorians. One will do anything for redemption. One has a thirst for blood. One questions everything.

You know about the invasion of Earth, and the Garde who will do anything to stop it. Yet there is still so much to learn. The stories in Zero Hour will help you get the answers you seek, but only the Garde and their allies can save our planet.

Perfect timing - I got this one at the library almost at the same time that they acquired extra copies of United As One, so I was able to get myself properly prepared for the Lorien Legacies' Grand Finale.

The first story in this collection is told by Dani, one of the newly Garde-empowered humans featured in the brand-new final book, and details her initial flight from New York in the wake of the Mog attack. Then she meets John and Sam and gets to take part in the fight for real. Narration-wise, she's not unlike Six - a sassy, strong-willed young woman, but with even more of a sense of humor. (The part where she asks Sam whether or not he and John are a couple was especially funny, because she basically tweaked the noses of however many John/Sam shippers there may be. And I'm sure there exist some.)

Malcolm narrates the second story, which is the most important one before the final book because it introduces a few of the military-industrial complex-type characters with whom the Garde must coordinate their final assaults against the Mogs.

The third, unusually, is split into three parts, each with its own Mog narrator hunting the Garde - human and Loric alike. One of them dies, one of them is a budding traitor to the Beloved Leader like Adamus, and one is one of Setrakus Ra's top dogs, who proves to be quite the menace in the final book.

Thank God I special-ordered this one when I did - my library still doesn't have most of these Lost Files compilations, for whatever reason. And what better way to follow it up than by reading through United As One? My review for that one is coming up in just a few minutes.

So this probbbbabbllly doesn't deserve 4 stars but I don't care because I've read like a billion of these books and I'm way too invested to stop loving them now. I didn't like these stories as much as some of the older ones, especially the ones about Adam. Both Danielle's and Malcolm's were interesting, but felt unnecessary. Adam must have like 4 short stories, maybe? It was amazing because it was like getting a whole other story instead of just the same one from someone else's perspective, ya know?

Anyway, I still really enjoyed this, especially Rex's little part at the end--I wish it was a full novella instead of part of one, because I didn't really care for the other two. I totally forgot about Rex, and how much I loved him!! I love how many redeemed characters are popping up in this series. I also totally ship him and Adam now that better freakin happen in the last book.

3.5/5 This officially concludes the whole series for me. I don't think these stories are completely necessary but they do provide different points of view.

I think I liked Daniela's the best because John and Sam are in it, but that's it. I loved Rex's at the end; I wish it was longer! The other two POV's are just little Mog idiots, especially that stupid Phiri Dun-Ra.

STILL NEED MORE OF THE ORIGINAL GARDE PLEASE

1 story is worth reading and that is Hunt for the Garde. The other two add very little to the main story.

This was a nice refresher of memory before I start the final book. Though I do miss the old voices of the Lost Files...

What is going through the minds of background characters in books, movies, etc. Pittacus Lore answers that question in Zero Hour. The uniqueness of the characters in this book is amazing. There’s a teenage New Yorker, a loyal alien invader, and a traitorous alien invader all with very different personalities in this. The plot in this book is very entertaining. How it shows three different point of views is amazing with a human, alien, and an alien that wants to defect from his people that are part of another series and the other books connected to them, so it has a very complex and intense story. The conflict in this story is the best part. It tells the story of a girl trying to survive an alien invasion, an alien trying to invade the earth, and another alien wondering if they should betray their fellow aliens and help the human race. This book is best for people who like long series, science fiction, and action.

The last set of novellas for the series. If you are reading the series, do read the novellas also. They fill our the story quite a bit. Now onto the last book.

not much to say about this novella. its the last novella bind up in this series and I'm sad that this series is officially over. I should have read this book before reading the last book in the series, but I couldn't find this book in stores. I would have probably enjoyed this book more if I was not in a reading slump because my god, I really didn't want to read after finishing Love and Gelato. Like I was fine once I started reading, but it was impossible for me to be able to dedicate myself by picking up and opening the book. However, I had 100 pages left to read before leaving on vacation for the next day, and I was just rushing to finish it and not really enjoying the last novella.

Legacies Reborn

This story was fine, not really my favorite in the bunch. But looking back at this, I did like how it included John and Sam because the other novellas didn't have them.

Last Defense

I honestly don't remember what this one was about right off the bat. OH YES, it was about Malcolm and his journey! honestly, this might actually be my favorite of the three novellas. I actually enjoyed reading this one.

Hunt for the Garde

I liked the first part with phiri dun-ra. this one went by quickly while the second story about vintaro ushaba. However, I did like how he died at the end because that was a new pov to read from, a dying mog that was hit by a blaster. The last one with Rexicus was also boring but it was mostly because I needed to be done with this book so I was rushing.

Overall ranking: #1 is Last Defense, #2 is Legacies Reborn, and #3 is Hunt for the Garde

I didn't realize this was a companion book. The audio book gave no indication what this was. It was marked #1, so I assumed it was the first in the series. So, that would partially explain its complete and utter suckiness and lack of plot.

I was left wondering, what in the heck was that? There was no beginning and no end. I feel like I read chapters 4-6 of a 10 chapter book. But no, that's all there was.

3 similarly themed short stories. And none were particularly compelling. I have zero motivation to read any more of this series.

The writing was terrible. And the character development was even worse.

If this is young adult fiction, why the need for all the F- bombs? Would aliens really cuss like humans? No. They would not. They would have their own mannerisms.

Second, why would the human characters say, "we call those crafts skimmers. We made that up. We had to call them something" and then later in the collection of stories, the aliens call their own ships "skimmers"? Another gaffe. The aliens would have a more official name for their air ships.

How did this guy sell so many books?

Compared to the other books is the Lost Files series this was probably the least interesting. The 3 stories it told were very different. The first one from Danielas perspective was interesting to see what its was like to be a citizen in New York during the invasion, with all the chaos and confusion. The second story was from the perspective of Malcolm Goode. It showed us how he got from Ashwood Estates to the bunker. It also gave us an understanding of what it would be like to be a parent in that situation, always worrying about Sam. The final story was told from 3 different Mogadorian's perspectives. One from Phiri Dun-Ra (who I know we all hate), another form Vintaro Üshaba (just a story from a random vatborn Mog), and from Rexicus Saturnus (who was in Adams story earlier). These stories did not seem to be very necessary to the overall plot of the series, but were good to read because they gave more information to understand how everything fit together. I feel as a concluding book the the series it could have been better.

You don’t need to read The Lost Files in order to understand the plot of the main novels, but I really enjoy them since you learn about more secondary/minor characters. This one focused on what was happening to other characters during the events taking place in The Fate of Ten. Also, it serves as a bridge into the final book, United as One. Therefore, you will experience some spoilers about the last book while reading this one. You could read this after the final book just for more background information about some of the events and how they happened. I don’t want to go into too much detail due to spoilers.

This book is really made for individuals that thoroughly love the Lorien Legacies and want something to do while waiting for the next book or as a refresher about past events before reading the next book. I know I’m reading this book super late, but I like to wait until they come out in paperback.

I enjoyed most of the book. Some of their POVs were kind of boring like: Malcolm's. Although interesting it was pretty boring. I didn't really like Dani's either but that probably has more to do with the fact that I was never interested in her to begin with.
I did not understand the point of the Vat born Mog's chapters. What was the point of it? I suppose so we could see everybodies side but I think that chapter could have been left out 🤔
My favorite one was- obviously- Rex's. Although, not action packed I did really want to know what Rex was up to while he was away from Adam. Not much but I liked seeing that Adam left him with doubts about his Leader.
All in all four stars.

This instalment of the Lost files tell the background tales of some of the more minor characters but who still played key parts to the overall tale.
Novella one deals with the story of Daniela Morales, a human who developed Legacies, then we hear the tale of Sam's father, Malcolm Goode and finally a section devoted to some of the Mogs characters, Phiri Dun Ra, Vintaro Ushaba and one of my faves, Rexicus Saturnus.
A unique and very interesting collection of tales.
I have to say I don't know what I enjoyed more, the original novels or these novellas expanding on the characters backgrounds, such a unique twist on the stories.
Brilliant.

Its the last one! In the first story you get to read about how one particular human started having Garde powers and how she escaped from the Mogodorians and met John and Sam! A really interesting story I thought. Then the next one was about Sams dad again and what he did after Sam left to go fight the war with John. Can't say to much about it or I'll give too much away! And the last story was actually about three different Mog people and there short stories about hunting down the Garde after Ra was injured. So sad that this series is over.. But wait! There is a new book out now called Generation One!!! Oooooo I can't wait to see what happens in that story!!

Legacies Reborn: I liked hearing from Daniela's perspective! She was really crucial in the books and it was interesting to see how the Human Garde react.

Last Defense: It was interesting to see what happened to Malcolm but tbh it wasnt tooooo interesting/necessary imo? But I guess it did introduce some of the military people.

Hunt for the Garde: A novella from the villain's point of view! It filled in a lot of the action from the last book on their side. Also it was interesting to see how it was 3 different Mogs. Phiri - in her descent into madness, Vintaro - and what really happened at the Niagara Battle with the Human Garde, and Rex - in the warship that moved without orders.

I thought I had picked up the regular "I am number four" book at the library, but didn't realize until the end that I had not. Perhaps that it why I thought none of it made sense. Just as I would get to know a character that section would end and on to another story. No section seemed to have a plot or anything interesting happen. This book doesn't make me want to pick up the correct one at all.

I usually don't like novellas based on YA books. Feels like an afterthought just to make money but the "I am number four" novellas are really mandatory if you want to know the whole story.

They really help to flesh out characters and this volume in particular gives an insight into the Mogadorian's mind.

I would say this last novella volume is actually the weaker one of all the novellas volume but that doesn't mean it's a bad one.

This is the first set of novella's I didn't really care for from this story. I didn't really see the necessity for them in progressing the story and I have no connection towards the characters they covered so I was not motivated to truly take in the stories. The only part that struck me as slightly interesting was the last half of the third novella where it looks like one of the Mogs might be turning sides. That could make for an interesting part in the finale.

The I am number four series is amazing I am surprised it is not more popular but regardless it is one of if not the best book I have ever read. The lost flies show tons of cool stuff about side charters like Sam (John best friend) and Atom (A mog double agent) The one I am reading show what Sam dad is thinking in battle. A girl with loric powers and Setrakus Ra first in commands option.

This was the first set of novellas in the series that I don't feel added anything to the story. While the others contained integral parts of plot that were almost like a real book in the series, these were events that we had already previously seen, or that we didn't really need to see. I found them much more boring than the others, and while they were still intriguing and well written, they weren't entirely needed.

2.5 - not necessarily a great way to end the series and definitely not my favorite, but it was alright. I feel like the characters that were introduced in these novellas were just backup characters that no one really cared about, and because the parts were so short, we didn’t have time to grow to care.

Just finished the last book of The Lost Files! I'm not yet ready to read United As One..... this is sooo depressing. I'm so attached to the characters that I don't want to let go of this story, but at the same time, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. Ugh, the struggle is real :(

Not my favorite of the novella collections but that's probably more to due with it starting off in Daniella's point of view. I have no idea why, but she's not my favorite character by any means. Still some great additional content though!
