This is book 11 in series but can be read as a standalone.
Viktor is in trouble and reeling: his precious younger sister just came into possession of an old artifact. The trouble is, the artifact can be used as a weapon which puts Viktor and his loved ones into crosshairs of two warring factions: Agency and Knights. Viktor likes neither. He is loath to involve himself into their conflict and as a shifter he is aware of war they wage, but had always tried to keep himself on sidelines.
Pan, on the other hand, is directly involved: he belongs to Agency and they work to protect shifters and dismantle and thwart Knights.
The first scene with the Knights convinced me they are bad guys. Before Pan and Viktor met they both harbor preconceived notions about each other. What they don't know is that they have already met: They had a fling two years ago. Both of them are intrigued by possibilities, but neither wants to give up on what he sees as his duty. This puts them into opposite corners of the fight at least in the beginning.
The plot frankly seemed a little far fetched to me but I was interested in Pan and Viktor enough to ignore plot holes. Their connection is vibrant and true and holds the story together. The story contains very well written and emotionally intense scenes.
Despite good sides to this story I just couldn't engage and wasn't compelled to keep reading. It's a good story for lovers of shifter books but it simply didn't hold my interest.
