I like women, and I like adventure. I always have. The last thing I want to do is settle down with the girl next door and live a boring, domestic life. So I have no idea what I'm doing here, posing as a first-grade teacher.
It's the most ridiculous undercover security job I've ever had to work. Corralling a bunch of six-year-olds while I try to do my job and keep anyone from knowing how clueless I really am. I manage to fool everyone. Except Kristin.
She's an actual teacher, and she's determined to find out what I'm really doing here. She doesn't trust me, and her daughter doesn't like me. And the worst part is that I'm starting to like them. A lot.
So now, instead of being the tough guy, I'm stuck with rowdy children and Christmas pageants and falling in love. It's not the way I thought I'd spend Christmas.
Samantha Chase is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller of contemporary romance that’s hotter than sweet, sweeter than hot. She released her debut novel in 2011 and currently has more than seventy titles under her belt – including THE CHRISTMAS COTTAGE which was a Hallmark Christmas movie in 2017! She’s a Disney enthusiast who still happily listens to 80’s rock. When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading romances, playing way too many games of Solitaire on Facebook, wearing a tiara while playing with her sassy pug Maylene…oh, and spending time with her husband of 30 years and their two sons in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
I recently develop a huge fan of Noelle Adams work. So when i found a audio book from her and Samantha Chase, i dove right in. Although this book is not purely from Noelle Adam, it is a light cute OK read.
This is novella. So everything is speed up pace, a whole lot of insta, and not really depth or twisted plot. I want more humor actually. Not just about kids, commitment humor.
No matter how hard I try, a wedding reminds me of a funeral. I knew I was here for a wedding, but the tone right now made me think… funeral.
My Review:
Protecting The Girl Next Door was my favorite of The Protectors series so far and provided a delightfully entertaining, amusing, and fun read. It was deftly written from my favorite dual POV and featured two oddly matched protagonists, who didn’t initially care for each other, at all. Kristin was a twenty-eight-year-old widow who had lost her Navy Seal husband nearly two years prior in an accident. She had always been a “good girl” and had married her high school sweetheart. Declan bragged he was never getting married and stopped dating good girls in high school after he noticed they never gave it up. The very idea of love, weddings, marriage, children, etc., caused him to shudder. So Declan was beyond miserable when his new protection assignment turned out to be a six-year-old girl and required him to go undercover as a substitute first-grade teacher. He was definitely out of his comfort zone and being ratted out by one of his new students, a serious and academically precocious six-year-old who complained she wasn’t learning anything in his class. I enjoyed this humorous, quick, and easy to follow tale from start to finish.
I’m always about the hero but most Noelle Adams do not give his point of view. Yet she is still able to make me fall in love with them. This time, we actually have Declan’s view point and holy heck! What a hero! He’s the player, one night stand only, type of guy who never wants to settle down. A persistent flirt and one major hottie. Watching him fall for Kristin was the most delicious thing I’ve read in a while.
Kristin is raising her six year old alone after the death of her Navy SEAL husband and Declan is absolutely the last type of man she will ever get involved with. But a one time fling wouldn’t hurt anything. Famous last words, right?
This story had me engaged from the first page. Declan wading through his assignment and Kristin trying to ignore her attraction to him was super fun. Add in Lily’s adorableness and I was in cuteness heaven. However, to balance it all out were some serious issues at hand that both Declan and Kristin had to work out individually, and together, taking this book up another notch.
Overall, a most excellent read that is impossible to put down.
I am happy that for once the hero was in danger during his assignment. I was starting to feel like things were too easy for our heroes and that a little danger was in order. I was happy in some ways to see that I got what I wanted. Since these books end with HEAs I wasn't worried about something permanent like death happening. For me, Declan and Kristin have the best story out of the four couples. Lily, Kristin's daughter was a surprisingly nice character. At first I was worried I wouldn't like her, but she grew on me. I did feel though as if the Declan's assignment was forgotten when he and Kristin started having a thing and I didn't like it. I would have loved to see him spend more time with Jess who seemed like a very cute and loveable child. I don't feel like the title reflects on the content of the book. Yes, Kristin teaches in the class next door, but Declan's job is to protect Jess. I am not a fan of books that have titles which don't reflect the content of the book. I don't mind if the people of the cover don't look like the people in the book, but I do mind when the title is not exactly honest. Still, Protecting the Girl Next Door is the best book out of the four and my favorite from the series.
3.5 stars, good but not as kickin' as I thought it would be.
I didn't realize that I picked up book three of the series. Sure this book can be read as a standalone, but I personally prefer getting to know the characters from book one. Declan seems to be the rowdy of the bunch; the player and the cheerful one. But as the story goes by, his character sort of blurs to this man that not sure of himself and that's kind of.. Well, I just need a background story and I think I'll change my mind about Declan as soon as I finished reading book one and two.
But overall, a good romance story, light but pack a strong plot. I adore Lily! Look forward to read more from this series!
Protecting the Girl Next Door (The Protectors) by Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams A true original. In a twist of pure genius, Chase and Adams scored success with a not often used scenario. They took a man of action out of his element. Declan is the man with the plan and the strength to back it up. He thinks with his head and has become well-versed at ignoring his heart. When an assignment puts the big bad Marine in front of a class full of first graders, the man with the plan realizes he needs a helping hand. I LOVED this story. There is nothing more precious than a child and for these authors to blend the innocence of youth with the jaded maturity of adulthood was a stellar move. Kristin and Declan's romance traveled a complicated route but the message conveyed with this tale was simple. Sensitivity is not a weakness, it's a powerful asset. It only took a group of mischievous kids and a caring mama bear teacher to show this tough as nails warrior the error of his ways.
Protecting the Girl Next Door (The Protectors #3) by Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams
Wow! I am telling you Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams are a powerhouse. I just love reading books they collaborate on together. They are a great team. Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams have all the elements that make a great author and writing team. Together they have written a sweet and romantic story. Samantha and Noelle have a way of grabbing the heart of their reader from the first page.
In Protecting the Girl Next Door we get a very emotional and romantic read. We get to read Declan's story. Declan Curtis is pretending to be a teacher at the elementary school where Kristin Andrews teaches. Kristin Andrews is a widow. Her husband Nick was a Navy Seal. Kristin's daughter Lily is Declan's student. Declan is on an undercover assignment to protect another student Jessileigh. Jessileigh's story alone is emotional and heart wrenching. Then you add Kristin and Lily's and wow. The chemistry Declan and Kristin have is undeniable. In this story we really can see why Declan is a Protector. I really enjoy how Declan enlisted Lily to help with Jessileigh. This story is just emotional and powerful.
I found it very funny seeing Declan adjust as a teacher. Declan has no teaching experience. I enjoyed reading Kristin's struggles with her loyalty to Nick and her growing feelings for Declan. Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams know how to write romance. They also know how to hook a reader from the first page. This book is different from others because you get three stories wrapped into one book. You get Declan's story, Kristin and Lily's story and Jessileigh's story. Protecting the Girl Next Door is the best book I have read from them as a team thus far. This book has all the elements I really find enjoyable in a book. I found myself crying, laughing and my heart swooning at different times throughout the story. I highly recommend this book. I give this five stars and two thumbs up. I can not wait to see what Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams come up with next.
Sweet and romantic as the previous book of the series
The series follow a group of friends an ex military guys in the lives back at home and in the unexpected events of finding the true love!
Book 3 is about Declan and Kristin story. Declan goes as undercover as a Substitute Teacher in the first class of school in order to protect the child of one of his clients and he met Kristin which happens to be a real teacher at the school and with a child in the same class of Declan as a teacher.
I enjoy the story from the middle till the end and i like how things between our main couple created. It is always fun to add kids in the story that added a more hilarious and playful tone to it!
I also have to point out after i finished the book that the more we get involved to our guys stories the more the female characters change as well to the more mature and strong female. Also we see more and more the guilt each guy has for the death of their friend Gavin and how this accident infected and influence their life.
Declan has been in the previous books as a tough guy and jokester, but in his story we see there is a lot more to him then it seems...and I love it! Kristen is a fantastic teacher and Mom who has been hit hard by the loss of her husband. The strength and character that both of them show made them a very enjoyable and relatable couple. For me though...Lily was the star of the show! She was so precocious and I loved her being an old soul. Her insights into many of the behaviors and her conversations at the tea and graveyard just stoke the show!
Along with the romance and building of a relationship between the three of them, there is suspense and action. It is through the case that we see this action and spend more time with the four guys. I love how they have conference calls! It was great to see how the couples were doing, but I was excited to learn more about Cole! I just feel like his story is going to be a doozy bc of his background and opinions on the direction the company is going.
Loved Declan’s story and can’t wait to read Cokes, but I do wonder...did Sebastian ever make Declan pay up for the 5000 bet?😜
Poor Declan has to go under cover to provide protection for a 1st grader. Another classmate, Lily, let her mom, Kristan, another teacher know what a lousy teacher Declan is. I absolutely love Lily. She is one adorable, smart as a whip little girl.
Kristan checks up on Declan and their relationship takes off from there. They are too cute. A true example of opposites attrack. Declan goes from never wanting a relationship to doing everything to convince Kristan that he can be a family man.
It was very cute how much Declan had grown. I liked how he started to connect with his students. I'm a teacher, so knowing the workings of a school, some of it was a little unrealistic. But it worked for the story, so I can forgive. It definitely made me want to read the other books in this series, so I'll be checking those out as well.
I really enjoyed the storyline of this book. Watching Declan go from the hard almost angry man to a sweet family man. I loved the way Declan interacted with the students in his class and I really enjoyed the humorous connection that Declan and Kristin had.

Protecting The Girl Next Door Protector Series # 3 Samantha Chase, Noelle Adams 🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars.
Samantha and Noelle have an uncanny way of writing, together they write great stories that you think would be a singular author. They are steamy, yet beautiful and a storyline very well written. Protecting the Girl Next Door is the story in the revamped Protectors series. These 4 ex marines are dropping like flies, finding their forever is not only a shock to themselves but their very tight knit group. Each has their own story with depth that is told in a beautiful way. This one belongs to Declan Curtis.
Taking on the role of a school teacher to protect a young girl from her mother has Declan going crazy. He doesn’t do kids and has zero teaching experience, this tough man has met his match. Never did he think that a small child and a teacher could bring his life to a halt. Assuming this would be an easy ride, Declan is unprepared for overzealous 6 yr old Lily and her overprotective mother and fellow teacher. Miss lily is very forthcoming with her education, and her disapproving with his teaching habits, this includes his teaching or not teaching in her case of maths. Telling her mother who is also a school teacher, Kristin Andrews goes to speak to this “relief teacher”.
What Kristin didn’t expect was those feelings deep down in her belly, ones she hasn’t felt since the death of her husband years ago. Knowing she must protect her daughter, she confronts Declan giving him her ideas.... They’re ones he would like to stick elsewhere... She might be the one that will blow open his case. He must remain incognito and enlists Lily to help with Jessileigh, the little girl he is sent to protect. When she finds herself getting closer to Declan, she discovers his secret life, but also his past. All of a sudden Kristin and Declan discover a new set of feelings towards each other but being married to a marine, and having him taken away so brutally, Kristin really struggles with her feelings for Declan. What she cannot control, she will run from.
Declan finds himself falling into the love pattern of his best friend’s and business partners, but with Kristin not able to give him a chance, and his protection detail in trouble Declan funds himself in deep trouble physically and mentally. Losing his life is as bad as losing Kristin, but he cannot get her to see that. When he is injured and his target comes forth, Declan sees his life for what it needs to be... If only he can talk sense into Kristin, even gorgeous Lily sees it. Taking a chance 1st time round will be huge for Declan, but for Kristin it is everything. Her choices are not just for her, but her little girl to. She must face the past, take it, own it and move on. Easier said then done. Falling in love again is a huge step, and one she will have to push herself in to, or lose a perfect man.
This is the third book in the series but it can be read as a stand alone. And honestly it's my favorite of the series so far. It made me laugh out loud and swoon a time or two. Four Marines come home from serving to live their lives but have a difficult time getting back to it. They agree to start their own business of protecting people. And they are really good at it. This story is about Declan. And Declan is thrown into a situation that he's totally not comfortable with. He's assigned to a six year old girl whose parents are going through a custody battle. It wouldn't be so bad but he's to be her substitute teacher of her first grade class. And he knows nothing about teaching or six year olds other than he was one once. I loved watching him deal with the kids and figure things out. These were the times that I would laugh and swoon at the same time. Kristen is the mother of one of his students. Her daughter, Lily, wants to learn everything and anything that she can. So when Declan thinks of this teaching gig as a babysitting gig, Lily let's her mom know. That's how Kristen comes to check up on Declan. I adored Kristen. She is a widow at a young age because her husband was killed in an accident. Even though he was a Navy SEAL, his death didn't come during action, and Kristen is afraid to let her feelings for anyone else develop. It's her and Lily against the world. I loved how these two fell for each other. It was emotional for both of them. Declan thought he was just getting an itch scratched. Until the first kiss. Then it was so different from everything else that he didn't have a choice. Kristen hadn't even kissed another man since her husband passed. She couldn't bring herself to open up to anyone and with Declan it was different as well. It was hot and toe curling. She thought she could just keep it casual. I swooned again when Declan wouldn't give up on her. He knew who was the one for him and gave her the space she needed even if that meant she wouldn't come back to him. He kept hoping though and that is what kept me turning pages. This was a quick read and I'm looking foward to the last of this series.
Protecting the Girl Next Door was a great read. I enjoyed the original story, but it has been long enough that I don't remember the details so it was like reading it again for the first time. Kristin and Declan were really cute together.
Declan is a big, tough ex Marine who is tasked with protecting a first grader. She is fine outside of school, but her father needs someone to watch her while she is there. So Declan has to pretend to be a substitute teacher for her first-grade class and he has no idea what he is doing. He is not a kid person, not a teacher, he is in way over his head.
Kristin is a fellow teacher who has a child in Declan's class. Her kid loves school, loves learning and working on whatever. Lilly, Kristin's daughter, tells her how the substitute isn't really teaching them anything which Kristin doesn't like at all. Man, she was not very easy to like at first. She is very strict and not very happy to find Declan teaching her daughter. She knows there is something odd about him, he won't talk about his past teaching experience or anything like that. She thinks he is a fraud and is determined to out him and get to the bottom of everything. She feels bad about it slightly, but she doesn't know what else to do. So what if she is attracted to him...that doesn't matter. She hasn't dated since losing her husband. She still misses him, but Declan gets to her.
For his part Declan never thought he would settle down with a wife and kids and white picket fence. He just didn't think it was for him. But Kristin and Lilly have him thinking differently. He likes them both, he falls for both of them. He wants to be with them, but Kristin isn't sure she can be in a relationship again. She doesn't want her daughter, or herself, to be hurt if things don't work out. Better to not take a chance. Only life doesn't always work that way. It was cute watching the two of them figure everything out. From being not really friends to more it was a cute read.
*Note: I received a free copy of this book for voluntary review consideration
Protecting the Girl Next Door is the third book in the Protectors series by Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams. The “protectors” are a group of 4 Marine buddies who have rejoined civilian life and have created a security company. Hanging over their heads is the death of their 5th friend, Gavin, who they each feel they had a part in causing.
A case has come their way which involves protecting a young 6 yr old girl and Declan draws the short straw. His assignment involves substituting as the class teacher but there is one glitch… he knows nothing about teaching and even less about how to handle a group of 6-year olds!
Lily is a bright precocious child in the same class and she makes the job even more challenging for Declan with her questions and by constantly pointing out that he is not following the schedule or the routine. Her mother, Kristin, is a teacher at the same school and she too is concerned by the lack of structure in his classroom. She is the consummate “girl next door” with her looks and her demure manner which knocks Declan off his feet as he has always had a “thing” for the girl next door type.
Kristin is a widow who is struggling to raise her daughter and does not have time for a relationship as her focus is on her job and her daughter. She senses something is not quite right with the new substitute teacher but she is drawn in by his good looks and his personality. She tries to deflect Declan’s advances as he finds her very alluring and attractive but she finds her defenses slowly weakening.
Can the young widow and the bodyguard find happiness? No spoilers here so you will have to read the book to find out!
The book has just the right blend of suspense and romance. The question of what really happened to Gavin still lingers in the background which helps to tie this book to the others in the series.
This is my favorite so far of The Protectors series. I absolutely loved Declan! I thought this was such a heartwarming, emotional read. Declan, who never felt he was the type to marry or settle down and have children, is on an assignment to protect a six year old girl during the day. To do so, he is a substitute teacher in her first grade class. Even though this is a book, I could clearly see this whole story in my mind. To watch his transformation from a player of sorts, alpha Marine to a man who fell in love with the kids in his class was moving and heart-warming. To see his vulnerability with Kristen, Lilly and Jess pulled at my heartstrings.
Kristen and Lilly lost so much when her husband, Lilly’s father, died in a helicopter crash. Declan rouses feelings in Kristen she thought were long gone. To allow yourself to open up to another man after losing someone is painful and scary. All she wants to allow herself to do is to try to have a no-strings attached affair, but the feelings cannot be contained. But is her fear of losing him, her need to protect Lilly from that pain again, more than the feelings she has for Declan? What about when she finds out what his actual job is and the dangers it involves?
I loved their story. It was emotional and healing. It was learning to take a chance on life. Both of them learning to live again after suffering a painful loss. Facing the fact that nothing is guaranteed, no one is guaranteed a tomorrow. That we have to live and love every day that we have.
Phenomenal job by Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams! I’m excited to continue on to the fourth book and get Cole’s story.
Protecting the Girl Next Door is the new and revised book, Forever Bound, originally released several years ago, but the authors Samantha Chase and Noelle Adams decided to revise and re-release each of the books in this wonderful series. LOVE, LOVE, LOVING this series!!!!! I LOVE watching a man determined NOT to fall, fall!!!!! Declan is determined not to settle down for a very long time, if ever. So, for now, he will do his job, and protect his clients for the company he and his buddies formed. Declan’s current job is protecting a little girl at school. He is working undercover as her first-grade teacher. Kristin, another teacher at the school is getting suspicious after her daughter, a student in his class complains to her about the way Mr. Curtis is teaching. Now, Kristin is determined to find out what is going on. I loved watching Declan fall, and fall hard for Kristin. You know how the saying goes, “we always want what we can’t have” well Kristin is determined Declan can’t have her. Let me say this, I will never think about a school’s supply closet the same way after reading this wonderful book. There were times I wanted to pull out a fan. But, when Declan get hurt, Kristin starts to have second thought, you see, she lost her husband in a military accident several years ago, and does not want to get involved with a man in a dangerous job. Watching both Kristin and Declan work through there hang ups….sigh!!! I was gifted with a copy of this phenomenal book for my honest opinion. GET THIS BOOK!!!! Phenomenal read. Sexy as heck hero. HOT scenes!!! Thank you for reading my review.
Declan has always been attracted to the girl next door type of woman, but when they didn't give him what he wanted, he would break up with them. Especially since he has no desire to ever settle down, and that's what they always wanted. Years later, he's out of the Marines, and his attitude about women hasn't changed. Starting up the security company with his buddies currently has him undercover as a first grade teacher, and he's not happy with this ridiculous assignment. While just about everyone is fooled, there's one person who isn't buying it, Kristen. She's another teacher at the school, and her six year old daughter is in his class. And even though she's becoming a pain in his behind, he finds herself liking both her, and her daughter. Declan's story had me rolling in laughter cover to cover, even though it had the suspense factor in spades. He's so funny with those children, and his inner monologue came off realistic, as a man who never really dealt with tiny humans. Kristen is a stickler for order, and nothing was going to keep her from finding out all of his secrets. When she finally let her hair down to hook up with him, I found myself cheering out loud. Protecting the Girl Next Door is another great story by this awesome author duo, and I find myself never wanting to leave their world that they transported me to. This story was the funniest one by far, because not only were the colorful cast of secondaries, but the tiny humans kept me highly entertained. But never fear, the f-bomb worthy twist were ever present. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
So I don't know which one is my favorite, because doggone it Declan I think may be my favorite. GAWWWW!
Declan is the playboy out of the group and the bet that he made at the end of the book...just read it! Declan is adamant in changing the case that the guys have assigned him, because Levi and Seb are occupied, so it's left up to him. Declan and kids don't get along and getting assigned to be a bodyguard for six-year-old whose parents are in a custody battle. Little does Declan know a class of six year olds and Kristen, a single mom. Declan was such a sweetheart with a heart of gold who made my heart soon when he was interacting with Lily and the kids. He was so awkward at first trying to be teacher and one of his students, Lily whose mom is Kristen is not giving him any slack at all. I think Lily was probably one of the sassiest, but smart kid I've read and I wanted to squeeze her in hugs so much. So adorable! 😊 Lily shipped her mom and Declan as much as the reader! Declan was patient w/Kristen, because he as knew too well as someone who as lost someone.
Kristen lost her husband two years prior as he was a SEAL and she and her daughter, Lily have been coping. Kirsten has been adamant and cautious about stepping back into the dating pool since her husband as died. But new sub teacher, Declan whose classroom is next door has Lily complaining about his
Although Sebastian is my favorite hero of the Protector series, Declan comes in at a close second! We meet Declan and Kristin in this third book, Protecting the Girl Next Door. Declan has been assigned to protect a little first grade girl who is in danger of being kidnapped by her birth mother. In order to protect Jessileigh, Declan must become the First Grade teacher. To say this was a stretch for him and his comfort zone is an understatement.
Kristen is not only a teacher at the same school but she is also a parent of First Grader Lily. Almost immediately she is attracted to Declan but also suspicious of his credentials and teaching style (or lack thereof). There is one thing Kristen does know. Declan is completely wrong for her. She is still grieving for the husband she lost in a military accident and she is raising her daughter by herself and doesn’t want a committed relationship.
Declan and Kristen come together and burn up the pages. Declan is sweet and caring and it doesn’t take long for Kristen (and her daughter Lily) to get attached. There is a bit of drama, Declan and Kristen part company and realize they are both miserable. I love that Kristen takes the first step to make things right and there is a happily-ever-after.
I received a ARC of Protecting The Girl Next Door - Book 3 of the Protectors Series by Samantha Chase & Noelle Adams from the author. Declan Curtis is so far out of his comfort zone as "substitute" teacher to a group of first graders that it like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. What he is really there to do is guard a six year old girl that need guarding from her very unstable mother who lost custody of her. Lily Andrews is an old soul in a very small body and is constantly challenging Declan on how he is running the classroom, which drives Declan crazy and makes for alot of laughs. Kristin Andrews very suspicious of him and decides to keep an eye on him. When Kristin decides that she is cable of having a "sex" only relationship with Declan things really heat up between the two of them. While there was some danger, there wasn't really any surpense, since we already knew who was going to try to grab Jessoleigh. There was some very funny, laugh out loud moment especially went Lily invite Declan to her Alice in Wonderland Tea Party and tells him he is the Mad Hatter! Oh my goodness, when he started saying his "poem" I lost It! Thank you for that Ms. Chase & Ms. Adams. Sweet, steamy and funny! The writing team of Chase and Adams never disappoint.
I have been waiting for Declan to be knocked in the love department and he is certainly knocked for six and then some. Always the player and not believing in the one or the HEA he really doesn't know what hits him when he meets Kristen the fourth grade teacher at a Private School he is working undercover at as a First Grade Teacher ... yep you read right... Declan is a first grade teacher well trying to be an as Lily, Kristen's daughter is in his class and wants to be taught but ends up playing most of the time. Kristen becomes suspicious of him. After losing her Seal Husband she isn't really ready for the dating scene.. well so she says until she can't fight her attraction to Declan even though she knows he's hiding something.
Of course for the safety of the Student Declan is protecting he can't tell anyone. He gets frustrated with his feelings for Kristen and knowing that she wants the whole picket fence. Can he be the man for the job or is he destined to be a player all his life. Can Kristen handle another relationship where her partner faces possible danger on every assignment. Only time will tell whether these two are meant to be.
Declan is an ex-Marine who has opened a security company with three of the men he served with. Declan’s next assignment is being a substitute teacher for a grade one class as one of the students is in danger of being abducted by her mother. This assignment is so far out of his comfort zone and it doesn’t help that one of his students, Lily, is less than impressed with his teaching skills.
Kristen is 28 and she has been raising her daughter on her own since the death of her husband. When her daughter expresses her concerns about her teacher Kristen decides to meet him as she is a teacher as well and maybe she could give him some suggestions. Declan had no interest in marrying or having a family until Kristen came into his life and suddenly all bets are off but after the death of her first love will she be willing to take the risk again?
This story had a good combination of suspense and chemistry and Lily is a doll. I can’t wait for the final book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
With every book I think it’s bound to be my favorite in this series and from page one I really identified with Declan. There is nothing worse than feeling like a fish out of water. He’s undercover as a school teacher, a job that he has no experience in and it doesn’t take long until one of his student’s mother, who also teaches there, starts taking an interest in what it is he’s teaching the children.
I knew from the moment Kristin starting questioning his teaching ability that this was going to be quite a ride and I wasn’t disappointed.
Declan is more of a one night stand guy and Kristin is very much a girl next door, the kind you would bring home to meet your parents. They should both be running away from each other but when opposites attract…
I loved this story so much. I knew that when Kristin found out that Declan had a dangerous job it would cause problems and I found the way this was dealt with refreshing. I was spellbound by the story and couldn’t put it down. It is one I will read over and over again.
I have read all four books in the series and this is my favorite. As a substitute teacher myself I can appreciate all of the struggles Declan faces as a secret bodyguard posing as a Sub. He is out of his element and doesn't even like children when the assignment is thrust upon him. The most advanced student in the class is also the child of a teacher in the building.
Kristin is concerned about her daughter's education while Lily's teacher is out on maternity leave. The substitute is not from the list and does not appear to have any qualifications or background. He may be attractive but why is he here? Inquiries with the office are met with non-answers and her suspicions only grow.
We add more to the story of the four friends and their lost friend Gavin. The four lived through a horrific military situation and now they rely on each other to battle back demons and stay positive. I love their phone calls.
