When Lexy Baker temporarily fills in for the pastry chef at a lakeside resort it seems like a great way to combine business and pleasure.
... until the head chef ends up with a knife through his chest and Lexy is found bending over the body.
Suddenly, she finds herself in a race against time and battling a quirky dessert devouring detective to find the real killer in a long line of suspects.
Was it the extravagant spouse? The suspiciously acting sous-chef? The mysterious motorcycle gang?
Luckily Lexy’s ipad toting grandma and three octogenarian friends have turned their cottage into a crime lab in order to help her sift through the sea of suspects.
Will Lexy be able to find the real killer and clear her name or will she find that she’s up the creek without a paddle?

Her book "Dead Wrong" won the "Best Mystery Romance" award at the 2014 Indie Romance Convention.
Her book "Ghostly Paws" was the 2015 Chanticleer Mystery & Mayhem First Place category winner in the Animal Mystery category.
Another rather funny feel good story about the lady ‘detectives’ and their escapades. J read this on my mobile at appointments hence the weird start and finish dates!
This is the first book in the series I have read and found it to be a delightful read. My mouth watered with all the tantalizing treats Lexy was making. This could easily be read without reading the previous book in the series, but I plan to buy more in the series. I admire Leighann Dobbs as a writer for writing such an interesting character as Lexi, and her grandmother Nans and cohorts made it all the more delightful.
Lexi finds the body of Chef and finds herself on the suspect list. Not one to be left holding the bag Lexi and her grandmother and friends get busy trying to sort out the case themselves.
I so loved this book that I bought the next in the series.
3.5 stars for this adventure of Lexy, Nans, and the other ladies. I realized I hadn't read this one and found it was available as an audiobook on the Hoopla app through my local library.
Lexy is working at a resort as a pastry chef when she finds the head chef dead--stabbed in he chest with a chef's knife. Lexy is one of the suspects and she, Nans and the rest of Nans' friends have to work to find the real killer, and there are quite a few people that would've wanted to see the chef dead.
Because Lexy isn't in her hometown, she, Nans and the gang don't have access to inside information at the police station from Lexy's fiancé Jack, but he does give Lexy some tips on what he would look for.
This is a cozy mystery series I'm very familiar with, and I've read almost all of Lexy's adventures, but this one felt a little different than the others, and I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't enjoy this one as much.
NOTE: On my version of the audiobook from Hoopla there is one instance of the word s**t, which took me by surprise, as this series doesn't have that kind of language. I don't know if it's in the ebook or not.
Bake, Battle and Roll by Leighann Dobbs is the 6th book in the Lexy Baker series. Lexy Baker is filling in as pastry chef at a resort when the head chef is murdered. Luckily her grandmother and her friends are staying at the resort and on hand to help her investigate. A fun quick mystery with the best part being all the descriptions of the delicious desserts. A chilli contest is at the centre of the story and it was interesting to see the some of the gimmicks and variations the contestants used. An enjoyable culinary cozy mystery.
Cozy mystery series about a baker who solves all sorts of mysteries. I like Lexy, her grandma, and her grandma's friends who call themselves The Ladies Detective Club. It took me a while to figure out who killed the chef. It's also great to watch Lexy with Jack, looks like their relationship is going smoothly.
Bake, Rattle and Roll (Lexy Baker Mysteries)— Leighann Dobbs (22 chapters) Oct. 17-19, 2018
This is the sixth book in the series.
Read as part of “Cozy Mystery Collection.”
Lexy is on “vacation” with her fiancee Jack, which means she’s working as a fill-in bakery cook at a cabin restaurant, and Jack is fishing.
But, of course, Nan and her crew aren’t far away. And when a cranky chef ends up dead after Lexy says she’s going to end his mood one way or another she becomes the main suspect. Now Lexy has to work fast with her friends to figure out who killed the chef and why.
This was a great story with a few twists I didn’t see coming. It was well written and the character interactions were well done.
Out of all the series written by this author, this is the only one that doesn’t really appeal to me. I think it’s the baking angle. Cozy and baking just don’t excite me.
However, this was a fun plot. And I’m glad the author included this in with the collection. I would not have read it otherwise, and that would’ve been a shame.
Some typos, but don’t let that discourage from reading this author. Her stories are fast and I didn’t regret reading this story.
When Lexy Baker is offered a job as a fill-in pastry chef at a trendy resort, she sees it as a great way to combine work and pleasure, and spend some quality time with her fiancé, Roger, and her grandmother, Nan. It would be ideal, except for the testy head chef, Alain Dugasse, whose temperament and harsh treatment of the kitchen staff grates on her. Then, Lexy finds Dugasse, face up near a dumpster behind the kitchen, with a chef’s knife in his chest, and she becomes the number-one suspect in his murder. With her grandmother, and her octogenarian friends, who belong to an amateur sleuthing club, Lexy sets out to solve the crime before her vacation ends with her behind bars. Bake, Battle, & Roll by Leighann Dobbs is a humorous, but at times, chilling, cozy mystery set in the backdrop of the culinary world. Sandwiched between the episodes of her search for an elusive killer, Lexy takes time out to canoodle with Roger and prepare dishes that, on paper at least, sound scrumptious. A delightful summer read.
As an answer to the last book had ended asking how anything could possibly go wrong at a peaceful lakeside resort, the head pastry chef was killed, and the seemingly inept detective (who later surprised everyone) seemed to be looking at Lexy who'd worked with him. There were plenty of comic relief moments of course with Nans and the ladies along. What do you get when you mix a group of old ladies with a group of bikers? Hilarity for one!
There was a lot of good intrigue and I never really guessed whodunit. The showdown and what led up to it was too awesome! Lexy and the gals had an adventure she didn't quite want to tell Jack about, so I guess what happens in the storage shed stays in the storage shed! Again, never underestimate the ingenuity of a grandma! This was one of my favorites in the series so far.
In Bake, Battle, & Roll, Lexy Baker is filling in as a pastry chef at a rustic lakeside retreat. She just couldn't resist working for a free two week vacation in a rustic cabin with her fiance Jack Perillo. Unfortunately, the person in charge of the kitchen, Chef Alain Dugasse, berates her baking. To make matters worse, Lexy discovers his body by the dumpster with a knife in his chest! Luckily for Lexy, the four members of the Ladies Detective Club are there staying in cabins nearby! So while Jack is busy fishing, Lexy, Nans and friends will have to figure out another murder! Of course they get into trouble trying to sort through all the possible suspects. I enjoyed the sixth book of this cozy series.
Lexy Baker & the Detective Club, Nans, Ida Helen & Ruth are at it again! Nans is her Grandmother. She was asked to fill in 2 weeks as the pastry chef. At the Lakeshore Resort. A vacation for Jack her fiancee' & the Ladies. The Head Chef Degasse is murdered. Lexy finds him with long chefs knife sticking out of his chest. Lead Detective Payne & Detective Wells are investigating the case. Lexy seems to be the suspect. There are many characters & suspects it will be hard to figure who killed him. Even if you haven't read other books in this series you will enjoy this book.
This is the 6th book not the Lexy Baker series and they keep getting better and better . Lexy is filling in as a pastry chef at a resort for two weeks and brings her fiancé Jack along for vacation. Trouble ensues when the Head Chef is found murdered and Lexy is the prime suspect . Along with her Nan and cast of character friends Lexy must find the killer before she becomes the next victim .
Great story with some twists you definitely don’t see coming . Love the location of the resort as location . I have read the first 5 books in the series but this could easily be enjoyed as a stand alone book .
The Ladies Detective Club and their sidekick, Lexy, are at it again! Lexy is working while everyone else vacations, but she still manages to become embroiled in murder. The mystery is rather pedestrian and unlikely, but the story is paced well and the old gals provide a bit of humor. The characters are likeable enough, although Lexy's deceitful ways and her detective fiancé's sudden cluelessness (I really hope Jack is faking her out!) do not bode well for their marriage. I'm looking forward to wedding shenanigans in the next book!
In this sixth book in the Lexy Baker series, Lexy has agreed to fill in for the pastry chef at a lakeside resort. She is there with Jack and hopes for some quality time with him. Nans, her grandmother, is also there with her sleuthing friends. The head chef is a real pain until someone stabs him. Some clues and fingers point to Lexy as the prime suspect. She has to keep baking for the resort while trying to find out who had means, motive, and opportunity to kill the man.
I found this episode to be a little contrived, but it works as a light, summer story.
There are a lot of contenders for the top prize in the chili contest, and Lexy and the crew of grannies are checking it out! Nan has an amazing ability to talk and make friends with just about anyone, so of course she meets a motorcycle gang who are entering the contest. She discovers the dead body (Yes! Again!) of Chef Dugasse and even thought was disliked by all, she becomes the main suspect! So it’s off to investigate and prove her innocence. Another fun and slightly crazy cozy in this series!
The hacker, the Mcgyver, the nice old lady, the snoops with purses, are all octogenarians on vacation and come to the aid of a granddaughter suspected of murder. Together they amass clues and suspects including other chefs, a biker gang, and more. Lots of surprises in this one! A really great read. Side note: if you have some outdated notions about Harley riders, Google the cost of one. I'm from Milwaukee.
This series makes me laugh out loud. The characters display true human like characteristics. The mystery is short and solvable by the clues in the story.
Lexy, her family and friends once again get involved in a mystery while on a working vacation at a resort. Where the head chef is murdered. There are an abundance of suspects including Lexy. The lead detective seems to be a bit bumbling so it is up to Lexy, Nan and the Ladies Detective Club to solve the case.
What is a vacation without a murder to go along with it? Lexi is subbing as pastry chef at an exclusive resort and receives a free vacation to go along with it. During her stay, the chef at the resort is murdered and Lexie is the number 1 suspect. When the ladies detective club starts to investigate, the clues pile up quickly but can they find the murderer quick enough?
This is the sixth in the Lexy Baker mysteries. I've read the previous books, too. It's a great series. In this one, Lexy and her fiance (Jack the policeman) take a vacation with her grandmother and the rest of the Ladies Detective club. It's a working vacation for Lexy, she's the pastry chef for the resort. Of course, there's a murder (it should be a warning to those nasty chefs who are so mean to the rest of the kitchen staff). And Lexy finds the body so is a suspect. Recommended.
A wonderful story,, great characters and fast pace.
How nice to read about a grandmother, her senior friends a d grand child sharing adventures and respect. The murder and how the team solved it was well written and believable. I would ha e enjoyed some of those delicious desert recipes.
It took me a bit longer than usual to finish this, but my excuse is: I was on holiday. The sixth book in the Lexy Baker series is just as comforting as the previous ones. These books are like freshly baked muffins: warm and gooey in the center. I love listening to these and my brain can easily project everything before my eyes. This series would really make a hilarious romcom/sitcom.
While Nanx and the ladies are enjoying their holiday, Lexy is replacing the resorts pastry chef, which puts her right on the spot when the head chef is killed right outside the back door.
An absolutely awesome book! Love how the older ladies are involved in solving the murder with Lexa. There is never a dull moment in this book. A mystery and comedy all in one!
This is the story of a chefs murder and how the killer is uncovered by baker Lexy Baker. This was a fun cozy mystery. It held my attention throughout and the ends ng was superb. Loved Lexus grandmother and her friends and Nan's ingenuity. Highly recommend this book.
This is the 6th book in the Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery series. The great thing about this series is that they don't have to be read in order. Lexy and her grandmother and her grandmother's friends make a formidable, and funny, investigative team. A fun read.
Not a bad read, as long as you're looking for light and fluffy. There's an awful lot of mashing together of eyebrows and clenching of hearts throughout the book; the author needs to work on coming up with more varied descriptions.
