What started out as a fun, filthy tweet turned into the romance of a lifetime. If—that is—your idea of romance is the #asshole real-life persona of a kinky off-screen control freak.

When Grace @FilthyBlueBird tweeted her dirtiest, most delicious secret desires to MovieStar @VaughnAsher she never expected a reply, let alone a face-to-face meeting and an offer of a lifetime. And when MovieStar @VaughnAsher figured out the woman vacationing at his family’s St. Thomas resort was the author of all those dirty hashtags she was relentlessly tweeting at him… well, that was a challenge he couldn’t pass up. He was more than happy to #RockHerFilthyWorld. @FilthyBlueBird’s online fantasy is about to collide with her real-life reality. And it’s about to happen now.

J.A. Huss

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

Six books in one audiobook!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💋💋💋💋
Heat/Steam: 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📒
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 👩🏻🧑🏼‍🦱👩🏻‍🦱👱🏻‍♂️🦸🏼‍♂️

The heroine: Grace @FilthyBlueBird - After her parents died, she was adopted at 16 by her best friends mom. She goes on an all inclusive honeymoon with the same best friend who won the trip in a contest. She lives in Denver and is an event planner that just got a promotion. Her and her friends are into filthy tweeting especially on the accounts of hot male celebrities. Grace only ever sends her dirty tweets to one man, her dream guy, movie star Vaughn Asher.

The Hero(es): Vaughn @VaughnAsher - he grew up the son of a very famous actor and was a successful child actor as well. He is now one of the most famous A-List movie stars. He is also a dominant who makes all his women’s sign an iron clad non-disclosure agreement. He is not into lasting relationships and prepares for the end of every one before it even begins.

The Story: Grace was in paradise sitting at a tropical bar and still couldn’t keep her head out of her twitter account. So she is upset when some arrogant interloper comes up beside her and tells her what drink to order. He walks away before she gets a chance to see who it is, but gets all up in arms about his high handed manner.

Nothing could have surprised her more than when she found out it was none other than the prince of her steamiest dreams and fantasies, Vaughn Asher. She agrees to go out with him and finds that they clash over just about everything but she loves it still. Vaughn sees Grace as a natural submissive and wants her much more than he cared to think about.

I really enjoyed this series. It made me uncomfortable in places but really kept my attention throughout the entire series and every book had different things going on. At first I thought it might just be 20 hours of back and forth between him wanting full control over her and her not wanting to give in. Granted some of the things he wanted from her would make me cringe if I was in those situations. He liked to come right to the edge of humiliating her in a few scenes, but the storylines got much more interesting than just BDSM and steamy scenes. Though there was plenty of that.

As for the narration, I liked the fact that it was dual POV and had both male and female narrators. I saw some reviews that didn’t like the male narrator for this dominant of a character, and I did have a bit of an issue but his voice reminded me of David James Elliot from that old TV Show “Jag”. I think what bothered me was the cadence of his reading, but it really didn’t bother me much.

The female narrator sounded exactly like Lyndsy Fonseca who played Alex on the TV Show “Nikita”. Her voice was perfect for the character of Grace. She sounded age appropriate and intelligent and I really enjoyed her parts. Though I hated her voice as Grace’s best friend, but it seemed sort of appropriate for a girl in her twenties who loves social media.

I loved the story arc and how this series take you to places you wouldn’t think of for a Movie Star romance. It was romantic in places, funny in places and dark in places and not just because of the BDSM. And yes I did check Twitter and found tweets between these two.

**SPOILERS under Sexual History**

Glad I read this 6-series book in its whole-book format coz I don't like cliffhanger endings.

A good read because it:
#1. was unpredictable and well-paced
It started with a fun & sexy challenge to get h to agree to sign H’s dom-sub hush-contract (NDA) and became a deeper emotional connection as h’s past unraveled later. The addition of the mystery-suspense of h’s kidnapping past & how she got kidnapped again by the same man towards the end provided some unpredictability and kept my interest overall.

#2. was emotional involving with good sexual tension
Funny, sexy, and had some angsty moments too. Hot detailed bareback S scenes but wished that h discussed condom-use before smexxing H coz he knew about her birth-control but she didn’t know about his sex-safety.

#3. had likable chars and good character development
Liked h’s combo of sass and caution/sexy online Tweets but tight-lipped in person/realistic yet liked to fantasize. Also liked her candid introspection and ability to laugh and let go of her issues once she’s figured things out. Her character growth came from having major denial issues re: being kidnapped & brainwashed for 8 months by her family’s unknown masked killer as a kid.

Liked H’s mix of kinky controlling lover and his kindness/generosity with his family. His character growth was linked to their romance progress. At first, he tried to control h like he did with his other subs. But became deeply in love with h, despite her emotionally distancing from him. Love how he persisted with her--unwilling to take her rejections of his love and her self-denials re: her traumatic past.

Sexual History:
23yo h was celibate for 8 months before she and H 1st smexxed. She’s had casual lovers since high school or college. But no emotional attachments and no desire to get married due to her traumatic past (She was abducted when she was 13 by a masked stranger, after he shot her parents and brother in their farm home. He mostly kept her in a closet for 8 months and brainwashed her to eventually believe that she was his wife and belonged to him and would get rewarded some freedoms (i.e., be out of the closet, able to talk to him) if she obeyed his demands. He never touched her sexually but let it be known that he was going to sexually claim her when she’s legal age. She was upset when he suddenly freed her 1 day and wouldn’t talk to anybody for weeks after she was rescued.).

32yo H has a voracious sex appetite and likes to have various submissives, whom he requires to sign a NDA to protect his actor image. Many are 1-time only and others are longer but always ends their dom-sub relationship when he tires of them. He’s had 15 subs within the past 4 years. He never takes them on a public date. Public dates are reserved for his public girlfriends who he never sleeps with since they’re strictly business-only set up by his manager. He’s only had 2 real girlfriends ever—1 with his Disney teen-movie co-star when he was 16 and the other with a party girl he broke up with when he was 18.

Even though it took me quite a while to finish this book (read: almost two months), I loveeeed it! That actually still is an underatatement though. This book is so unrealistic and yet so amazing. The reason why it took me so long to finish it, is because I didn't want this book to end and also because it got too tensive. Although this genre isn't my usual genre, I enjoyed it a lot. At first I thought this would be another book like Fifty shades of grey, but it is so much better!
So long story short, I loved this book and I definitely recommend reading it yourself. Especially if you like this genre and such books.

WTH! I don't understand how J.A.H does it. There's only one book of hers that I couldn't finish reading, not because it wasn't well written, clever or intriguing but due to the triggers and limits I have (I'm not saying which one it is, you should read them all and come up with your own opinion). You'd think based on the title of this series and the synopsis, this would be a fun entertaining read.. right?!. Again.. why do you put me through this rollercoaster ride of emotion Ms.Huss? The worst thing about it is that I dont want to stop reading, I lose hours of sleep and completely ignore my daily responsibilities. The bright side is that for once I dont hate you for the cliffhanger at the end. Surprisingly at some point I hated all the characters of this book as much as I liked them. I wanted tragic endings as much as a happy one. For someone who is as decisive as me and likes to be in control, your characters have me all tangled up inside. Ok, I'm leaving now to get some fresh air until the dizziness goes away. Like most of J's books, that's what Social Media has done to me. Then I'll come back and write a proper review.
BTW I bought the kindle version first then the audible (cause I like to throw money away like that *sarc). Why can't I sync the 2? reading it via kindle was way better, I got the audible only out of necessity. The male narrator, although good, wasn't great for the role of Vaugn.

Holy smokes! This was SERIOUSLY epic!

Social Media is an amalgamation of Julie A Huss' 2014 six volume "Social Media" series (Follow, Like, Block, Status, Profile, Home) originally released in two week intervals. It's got range and it's got depth.

Grace Kinsella is a twenty-three year old event planner, on a dream vacation with her best girlfriend, when she unexpectedly runs into her fairytale prince, Vaughn Asher. Vaughn is the super gorgeous movie star who has been the muse to Grace's @filthybluebird dirty sexy tweets for the past three years. And suddenly, he's got his eye on HER! And he's not looking away.

What starts out with the feel of a light-hearted romantic comedy, develops insidiously into much more. Grace and Vaughn begin as incomplete works of art: one living in a fantasy world, refusing to face her demons, and the other so wounded by the harsh realities of living in the public eye that he avoided any meaningful ties to others outside his family. With patience, ingenuity, and craftsmanship Huss strings us along a revealing, but sometimes very dark, journey that galvanizes the bond between this couple and transforms each of them into a more present and potent version of themselves.

I really don't want to spoil any surprises for you - just be prepared for parts that will be near impossible to put down, a challenge when reading a book this long. But definitely worth it! Julie A Huss is an amazingly talented writer!

I’m positive I’ve read this book before, but I assume it was before Goodreads & before Audible would let you know if you’ve read a book that was in their “included” lost at the time… so, probably early 2020 pandemic.

I kept it and kept listening bc I really did enjoy the plot. The twists and turns were heart breaking but the MC’s were resilient (albeit with hesitation at times).

Absolutely was hooked from the minute I started reading this series. I love the banter between Vaughan & Grace. I love how the series flowed. If you want a series that has a sexy movie star and a filthy blue bird that will hold your interest thru the whole book, then this series is for you. Wish I could give more then 5 stars because this series deserves so much more

It's a big book!!! Consolidated from a series into one big book and so much better for it.
I would of given up waiting for two week intervals. I like to read on and even though I put a book down to cook (or whatever) it's there waiting. I hate serials. enough said.

So, this was a great read...not Jane Austen material but still very entertaining. I liked the characters. Vaughn was a real douchebag. I got a real Christian Gray vibe. Daisy/Grace was a bit more complex. I sure liked her feistiness. As the story unfolds I either hate Vaughn for her or cheer him. I liked that.

Some of the plot conflicts seemed to drop in from outer space...like the Black Bash??

I really liked Connor and Felicity. The epilogue could of wrapped up more of the few more important secondary characters??

I think combining the serial makes a more choppy big book (seemed to need thinning as a big book but we are grateful it's done at some point for the reasons I stated in paragraph 1.

Filth Blue Bird

I loved this series the first time I read it, but it's been a while so I thought what the .... I could go for another read through and I fell even more in love with this story. Every woman needs a Vaughn Asher in their life. A rock that you can lean on if needed, but he also knows when you need that push in your life. Grace made him a better man and Asher gave her encouragement and made her stronger. This will always be one of my favorite series.

This was 6 books in 1. Originally a serial. And being a twitter whore I wanted to read this so badly.

Ugh.

The first three books, I needed prozac to get through them. I couldn't even attempt to like either character.

I'm doing this because....

but why are you doing this?

Ugh. So much explaining on every page. Just give the heroine a damn manual already. I was bored with the same relentlessness.

I didn't hate it and I didn't love it. Parts were cute and enjoyable. I never mind a douchebucket hero, I quite like when he's a bit of an arsehole, but I just wasn't in love with Vaughn as much as I would have liked to be. He was unlikable for the first three books but by book 6 ( the last hundred pages or so ) he was so much better, we saw his kinder side and it was then the heroine took over the douchery. FFS, if I could have reached into the book and bitch slapped her she would be bruised from forehead to toes. I've never been more irritated with a heroine. I like to see progression in my characters, and for me, the heroine didn't have any.

And the push/pull was soooooooo exhausting to read. She wants him, she doesn't. She loves him, she doesn't, she doesn't want BDSM dom Vaughn, she does. There was just wall to wall conflict everywhere.

Overall this twitter romance between a hardcore fan who has sent filthy tweets to a movie star for three years just fell flat for me. I see it has great reviews so I'm probably in the minority and wanted something different.

I zipped through all six installments very quickly, but I didn't love the book as much as I thought I would. I'm tired of reading about damaged heroines with troubled/abusive childhoods. I want to read about sex-positive folks who just like getting kinky instead of people trying to solve mental health issues with kinky sex. And on that point, since when can you spank someone out of depression? Seriously?

Also, weirdly, the sex scenes were hottest when the characters were being jerks to each other and got progressively less interesting as the characters actually started to care about each other. That just struck me as strangely backwards.

Still, I enjoyed the writing style and would definitely read more by this author.

Series Review:

And JA Huss does it again. Each and every book I read by this author pushes her further and further up my "all time favourite authors" list. Honestly, I just can't get enough of her stories, I really can't. I love that every single series I've picked up has been so different to the next. I love that she pushes boundaries, picks taboo subjects, writes seriously hot sex scenes and writes such good stories to go with. To date I've not read a book by this author where I think, "that sounds so much like something else she wrote" or where the characters all start to morph into one or where certain words or phrases feel like they are on repeat. Now that's bloody good going considering how many books she's written over the last few years. A bloomin' big gold star is deserved for feeding my JA Huss addiction. Keep up the good work is all I can say.
One hundred and forty characters and a well placed hashtag might just change my life.

So, on to "Social Media." Oh lordy, where do I start? This was a complex, intense, multi layered story that wreaked havoc on my emotions. I mean who wakes up in the middle of the night with anxiety levels through he roof because she's worried about where this story is going and concerned for the characters? Me, that's who!!! This book really played on my mind and it left me absolutely exhausted. I just didn't expect the turn of events that transpired and I absolutely was not expecting an douche bag of a hero. "What happens when the film star you've spent years fantasising about suddenly becomes a reality in your life? Great, right? No. What happens when that reality isn't all it cracked up to be?" Yup, Mr Vaughn Asher, class A asshole of the worst kind!!!!
"She's just a thing to you, isn't she? She really is a gold watch. You think you own her."

For every book I have read by JA Huss I have felt a draw to the leading characters almost immediately. However, "Social media" was the exception. OMG, Vaughn Asher was no hero in my eyes. Hell no. He pushed my buttons like no other hero has ever done and made me so bloody angry it was untrue. He was controlling, conniving, manipulative and a dick (the list could go on) and I wanted to scream at Grace to run for the hills. This man was seriously bad news and I could foresee the tears that would be shed in the future. I just couldn't see how this pig of a man would ever win me over. I was so incensed and infuriated by his behaviour and actions that I even messaged the author, lol. She was seriously going to have to work her ass off to make me fall in love with this anti hero (if that was even possible). Does Mr Asher redeem himself? Well of course he does.
“Good, girl. Not get on your knees so I can stuff my cock down your throat and make you choke on my come.”

Grace was such a brilliant, feisty, fire cracker of a heroine who (thank the lord) gave Vaughn Asher a run for his money and did not pander to him or constantly bend to his will! She knew her own mind and knew when she was being played or taken for a fool. But sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants I guess so there were occasions where I wanted to shout "what the hell are you doing??? No!!!! Don't do it!!!" Grace's character was complicated though and as I peeled back the layers, my heart went out to this woman. Her secrets devastated me and her strength left me in aww. Her past definitely shed light on her present and the way she was. The way Grace's character was written was done in such a way that I felt so much of what she did. I felt her fears and insecurities, her vulnerabilities and her humiliations. It was difficult not to feel a connection to her right from the start and that connection continued to grow throughout her story.
He's a man that doesn't respond well to no. I'm not sure I like that. In fact I'm not sure I like anything about him in real life.

This was an epic love story (I promise you) but it also fit into a couple of other genres too. "Social Media" was a thriller, it had mystery and suspense and it had that "who done it" vibe too. Plus there was humour, especially when it came to the tweets, hashtags and banter between Vaughn and Grace. And I can't not mention the sex!!!! JA Huss is so so good at writing smut. Either she has a very filthy mind or her porn collection is one that is the envy of many.
“I want you to spank me so I can cry. And then I want you to fuck me and make it better.”

Right from the start I was addicted to this story and considering that was a 6 part novella series turned into one book, I read the whole thing in two days (two working days at that). It was truly unputdownable. Oh and that epilogue, it was just perfect for the journey Grace and Vaughn had travelled and even brought a tear to my eye.
"Tonight you win, Grace. I'll be yours if you'll be mine."

A brilliant book that I couldn't help but recommend. of course it's ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I listened to this book on audio and the narrators were okay. I didn't like the sound effects... all the Twitter notification sounds, and typing sounds.  This book did cement to me that BDSM is not my cup of tea. And it gave me a few laughs from how the heroine reacted to things the hero had her do. I can see why  some people would like this type of kink. Especially with a person you wholeheartedly love and trust.  But these two were strangers!  He asked her to do things in public and some of it was degrading in my opinion. I didn't understand why she would agree to it without even knowing the dude. I'm guessing it's because he was her "fantasy" and that he was a celebrity.  But I don't care. There's no way I'd let Idris Alba manipulate me into blowing him in my apartment building's hallway 🤨 while my neighbor walks down it. So at this point I'm not liking the book because he talks her into signing
A NDA and treats her like property. After some events take place,  Vaughn [the hero] gets an attitude adjustment or a personality change and becomes a different person. You'll have to read the book to see what those events are though. Suddenly he wants Grace more than his submissive. Like he starts to like like her and wants a serious relationship with her. Long story short they have a drunk Vegas wedding. So at this point I feel like it's insta-love and I don't like those romances.  It's so much stuff that happened that made me go from not liking the book to liking it. Especially when Vaughn started to be a good husband to Grace. He did his best to be good for her. He even stepped up and was there for her when something tragic and traumatic happened to her. I was so happy with his new persona. Grace annoyed me at times but all in all I liked her as a heroine. Her fantasy vs reality mentality confused the hell out of me at first until I found out why she was the way she was.  What thru me off though was how to hid behind her Twitter account.   I liked how she stood up for herself in Vegas and voiced her self preservation to Vaughn. And I think that's what made him want to change.  Their relationship was not easy. They both had some issues that they needed to handle but they complemented each other well. I'm happy with their happily ever after. The story kept me entertained the whole time, even when I wasn't liking the book. I think the author did a good job since I went from disliking the book to liking it🤣 the side characters were okay. There were certain ones that added to the story like felicity and Kristi

WOW, just wow!
While this series had a lot of kink and humor, it also deal with real issues, feeling, and emotions.
Though I wish there was an epilogue. I mean the series was long enough that one could have been fit in.

Chapter 39, was heartbreaking when Grace told Vaughn how he was making her feel and that she was done with his games.

Chapter 56
All the best fairytale princesses have the most horrific past. But they endure and persevere. And even though the fantasy dictates that the prince saves her, that's not how it really happens. "
"Grace, the princess always survives, and she does that all on her own. Never mind the rescue, the real challenge is surviving long enough for help to arrive. And all the fairytale princesses do that on their own. You're not a victim you're a survivor and I get it. I understand what you meant back in Vegas when you said sometimes living is the worst possible thing that can happen. And you're right. Giving up is so much easier. But you never did give up."

So I have been binge listening to Julie's book for a few months now and I am in love with her writing and her mind, god damit I wish she was my neighbour, those coffee dates over the fence would be hilarious.
Anyway this book set was great, I did find it hard going as I just didnt like the male narrator Mark Kamish, his reading was slow so I would have to listen to him at a faster pace than Autumn, so I was flicking back and forwards. Also this was the first time that there was some sound effects in the book, I am not sure how I felt about that.
I totally love how Julie adds things in from other books, not just a character, but an app, or the name of a magazine or a place, I just love little things like that, are they what you call Easter Eggs, I dont know, but I love finding them, it makes me smile.
This box set was long, but I think I liked listening to it like that.

No need to be intimidated!

Having read everything else by Julie, I decided to tackle this box set with an open mind even though I wasn’t sure I would be able to relate to the characters. Hysterical, right? I don’t have anything in common with sci-fi heroines, billionaires, trained killers, or models either but I really felt out of the loop on understanding the social media aspect. But as always, Julie’s characters are really complex and her plots are so enthralling that I got sucked right in and read it straight through without much sleep. As always, It made me think and feel and expand my world view. Thanks for another great read!

This book would make such an amazing movie, it was so good!
I loved how there was always something happening, and so much of it too, that each page turn and chapter had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next. I fell in love with the rollercoaster journey and emotions this book made me feel, I was right there alongside Grace and Vaughn’s world.
I had so many words in my head on what I wanted to say about this book, but trying to get them written down wouldn’t do justice to how amazing I thought this story was. I felt like it was a little different to your typical romance book and I loved the hell out of it.

Smacks you upside the head!

JA Huss doesn't disappoint! What started out as deliciously hilarious, quickly became a story that smacked you upside the head! FANTASTIC storyline. Sexy fun, but events turn dark hinting at an unfathomable past.... like bread crumbs strung along the way. And then BAM!!! Hang on to the edge of your seat, front row viewing of new love, dark twists and a rollercoaster of emotions. Fabulous read! Highly recommend!

Great writing — really pulled me in

*****Social Media Box Set by JA Huss: All the feels!
This book is so good. A lot of angst, and baggage, but all interesting. Not the ‘woe is me’ drivel - for the most part. Self discovery and feelings, and connecting. Then the past comes charging in and things get dangerous. Again. Geez, this is a roller coaster story that kept me on edge. Very nice HEA.

Social Media boxset

Ingrid was a bit of a roller coaster. Because Grace is strong but has been through so much. Vaughn is an Actor with a kink until he meets Grace who take no crap. But her past is catching back up with her but she doesn't know it yet. But Vaughn has fallen in love with her and will do anything to keep her safe. But a dark party that like to shame stars back fire when Grace stands up against her past . The spice is on point

This book is a wild ride. You start the book in one direction but end up in a totally unexpected place. I’ve read all of her R&R and Company books and all the other series but her stand-alones have become my favorites … Social Media included. The characters, story, everything. — 5 stars all the way.

I couldn't finish.
A dirty talking social media influencer shouldn't be so completely ignorant of sexual kinks.
A "dominant" multi-genre super star shouldn't have such poor communication skills.

Absolutely amazing

Truly amazing read. Ms huss has created a wonderful story. So very exciting and suspenseful. Erotic romance at its best. Great series. Vaughn Asher is my new book boyfriend. Swoon.

So funny!

Really enjoyed this one! JA Huss knows how to draw you in with the sexy banter and then BAM there is some crazy storyline that you can't put down. So steamy. Always my happy ending. Great series!

such an imagination!

Another j a Huss ticked off, just when I think I’ve read them all. Thought she was taking me somewhere too dark even for me but I stayed with it, right to the HEA. Loved every minute.

Wow OMG this was a book that had a lot going on and boy was it such a great read. I was so relieved to see Vaughn and Grace happy. Please tell me you will be writing more on the family and is there any children coming.
