Heirs of Montana #3

To Dream Anew

Rate this book
Though the Diamond V ranch is flourishing and their own family growing, Dianne and Cole Selby find their hard-earned success threatened as a band of Indians on the warpath inch closer to the valley they call home. When a new family settles in the area with ambitions to establish an empire in Montana, it quickly becomes apparent that they will stop at nothing to uproot Dianne's family from the land they've nourished and come to love. Peterson's vivid writing enlivens this pioneer saga of the Chadwicks and Selbys as they endure devastating losses and find unexpected joys.

Once again, too many POV's, but overall the story is interesting. I would have preferred if the story was either more focused around one main plot line-trouble with the Indians or Portia and her mess (she made me cringe every time she came on the scene).

I thought it a little strange that in the middle of the book Morgan was talked about a little more, but then as the the story ends he and Trenton are hardly mentioned. And once again there is a cheesy love triangle that reminded me too much of Dianne, George, and Cole. But anyway, that's just a side note.

There are were several realistic troubles in this book. Dianne must learn submission and understanding, even when it is hard. It was nice to see that the author didn't focus on Dianne's feelings of "women's rights". I read too many books like that! I liked Cole more and more in this book.

For lovers of a good, simple western story. One more book in the series!

Yet again I loved this third book in the series! I thought it was the end and then discovered there is a fourth book! Yahoo! I still have thoughts about what will happen with certain characters but we shall see.

#3 of the Series HEIRS OF MONTANA...... there’s 4 books in this series and you will want to get them all at once because you don’t want to take a chance of not being able to find one...

I read the Paper Back Books, and after receiving a Kindle many years ago, I had agreed I would donate all of my books (approximately 850). Well the Kindle broke, and now I’m stuck, I sure wish I still had MY FAVORITE AUTHOR’S BOOKS IN PAPERBACK..... (or another Kindle-it’s hard to read the books on a desk top computer) plus I would have to purchase these stories again for a Kindle, I am considering it because she is such a talented, unique, and incredibly rare Author that knows how to tell a story.
She will pull you in and keep you reading with such intense, expressively, fascinating storytelling by a GENUINELY INSPIRING TRIED & TRUE AUTHENTIC AUTHOR, who is obviously faithful and devoted to her fans.
THIS IS A MUST READ.... but read books 1 & 2 beforehand

Now the story is really getting to be redundant, although I am still compelled to keep reading, as I want to know what's coming next. I was disappointed that sometimes what came next seemed to be a repeat of an earlier incident (especially with regard to people's emotions); however the historical events that are incorporated into this fiction, the tenacity of the people, the hardships they endured, the hard work, the family ties, the love ... all work together for an enjoyable read.

I held my breath

Such a strong character is one of the shady ladies that it makes you want to slap some sense into them, but once again I found myself holding my breath in anticipation in two or three scenes. Because of faith, you will applaud how the Lord works for the people of the Diamond V ranch and eagerly anticipate the next book!

great book! Lots of twists and turns in the plot of this novel. Good and evil are at war in this novel and the characters must dig down deep to find the strength and the faith to endure whatever lies ahead. Secrets are revealed and sacrifices are made in the wake of tragedy in order that the settlers of the Montana territory have the chance to dream anew...

To Dream Anew was a different take on Dianne and Cole's story. Rather than facing the wilds of Montana, most of their troubles came from the residents in Montana. Dianne and Cole are running a successful ranch at the Diamond V, but when another rancher wants to take what's theirs, they will face some of their toughest challenges yet. This is a new angle on this story because it is a lot more about other people plotting behind the scenes and how Dianne and Cole try to stay ahead of them and still do the honorable thing. This causes all kinds of drama that they would not have had if the people had not been there. This included not only trouble on their ranch but trouble within their relationships. In the past, the tough times have resulted from the unpredictability of the wilderness, but in this case the conflict comes from people, which is an interesting new take on life in Montana at this time. These people as villains are also very good at being bad, so the book is a great page-turner because you never know what these dastardly villains will do next. Dianne was not as likeable in this story. Her relationship with Cole was strained at times, and it often resulted from the ridiculous nonsense that she would come up with. Part of her reasons I definitely understood, but when she would say that she felt childish when she finally realized the truth of what was happening, I was in whole hearted agreement. This book leaves a lot of open ends. There are so many different directions that the plot could go in the next book that I am excited to see which route it will take.

Wealthy neighbors move to Montana a few miles from the Diamond V Ranch. Porsche is back with her antics, befriending Mr. Lawrence and conspiring to steal Diane and Cole’s ranch, along with the other ranchers. She kills the man’s wife and then marries him but of course it’s only to fulfill her purpose. But she makes enemies of his teenage kids to her own detriment. The two older boys are murderous just like herself. She sets a fire that destroys everyone’s properties. The author weaves in scripture and the providence of God through the voice of the characters. Because of Diane’s generosity, there are two more guests in their home, Takes Many Horses (George) and Mara, Mr. Lawrence’s daughter. Together with the rest of the family, they strive to rebuild.

Wow, this book was all over the place. Even more so than the previous books, perhaps?

I do not have the patience to shred the book in written words as I did in my thoughts while I read it. Suffice it to say that the plot was not tied together by a progressive thread, the characters were as dry, dusty, and stiff as cardboard, nearly everything was told instead of shown, and individual plot threads were left hanging here, there, and everywhere.

Oh, and Dianne was more irritating and grating than a screech-owl's talons on a chalkboard.

But if you can get past all that, I'm sure you'll enjoy traveling at the speed of light through the 1870s and 1880s. Montana is pretty country, I guess?

Very good. The only problem I had was it seemed at times that Dianne acted out of character. She is so filled with anger and takes it out on Cole. Although I understand her pain from everything that is happening, she has always been so strong, and it just seems her strength has disappeared. However, we can all act out of character at times, especially if we're feeling unsettled or fearful. It just bothered me that instead of pulling together (as in the end of the book) she was fighting against everyone.

A great continuing story!

This continuing story has so much information about family, faith, and love. It has great descriptions of the Montana territory in the early days. It educates you on the true hardships of the Native Americans and Black Americans. I have a much better understanding of all Americans.

The story kept me engaged and wanting to know what happened next, but I did not enjoy parts of the “romance” aspect of the book—particularly the female villain. Overall, I do like the author’s writing style and think she does a nice job of pulling in difficult life matters and how they can be handled biblically.

This book is full of action and surprises. You know an author’s characters are developed well when you really identify with some of them and don’t like others at all. The main characters grow as people, but still show human weaknesses at times.

I feel like the writing was better than the two previous books. Better sentence structure and slightly more realistic dialogue. Clear gospel presentation. Author referred to people of mixed race as “half-breeds” twice in the book which didn’t sit right with me.

Dreams hoped and dashed

I have read nearly all of Tracie Peterson’s book but this one wore me out! There are so many different stories within the story that it seemed unnecessary. However, it’s a great read but I think it could have been a bit more streamlined.

Enjoyed the third book in The continuing saga of The Heirs of Montana. I lived for many years in Montana and love reading books that take place there. This series has been very enjoyable to read and I plan to read the fourth book in this series next.

This whole series left me feeling unsatisfied; seems disjointed to me. Maybe because one of her earliest series and I have read later ones, totally enjoyed them. Not bad, just not up to par for me.
