Sir Neville Fortescue MP comes from a long line of rakes and hell-raisers and he's determined to live a decent life. He certainly doesn't associate with women like the notoriously unconventional Diana, Duchess of Medbourne.
But when Neville and Diana are forced together to help a servant girl, they plunge into a shady world of brothels, plots and murder. Neville realizes that he has underestimated the beautiful young widow and his own love of danger and adventure. Could staid Sir Neville be a fit match for the Daring Duchess?
Paula was born in Leicester and grew up in Nottingham. After finishing school, she was employed as a research librarian, and studied for her library examinations after work.
Paula has three children, and when the third started school, she returned to work, beginning a new career as a part-time lecturer in English and general studies. After four years of teaching, it became necessary for her to gain a degree, and Paula did just that. She enrolled in the open university and spent the next four years earning a first class honors BA in history.
First things first, for any of my fellow readers of trashy romance: This book is lacking in sexyfuntimes. Look elsewhere for smut. That said...I thoroughly enjoyed this book! There was a lot going on, and it was pretty fast paced. One thing I liked was that the author suckered me a few times. I kept expecting a particular trope, then discovered the author was faking me out. Nice male and female lead, both of whom experience growth in the course of the story. Nice romance. Tropes are present in the story (DUH, it's romance), but they didn't seem excessive or annoying to me. I liked that the leads seemed to be on a pretty level playing field, though I would have appreciated a little more development of some of the supporting characters. This book doesn't lose a star for that because it seems to be more a matter of the style of storytelling as opposed to poor storytelling. I would definitely read more by this author.
