SOMETIMES FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

The third and final story takes the reader on an emotional, heart-wrenching, spine-tingling journey. It brings the first two books into focus, but taking us further into the past, coming to the point in time of books one and two and then beyond to a conclusion. Secrets, lies, unhanded deals, abuse, and slavery, all make up this story. A promise uttered as a child, will come back to haunt Perin and set this elaborate tale into motion.

“Parin, promise me you’ll never, ever go to Midros.”

The story is told in two parts, and begins three years before book one, Memories of Surrender, with Parin traveling with her employer to Midros for a contract negotiation, where she will be arrested, stripped, humiliated and sold at auction as a slave. They can do this to her because she was born on Midros and falls under their laws and jurisdiction. Bought by Edar Pennis, owner of Pennis Mines, she will be raped, beaten and tossed in a hole in the ground. One man, Mercer, is willing to stand up for her, but in the process, he will give up his own freedoms. She will go from the ownership of a cruel master to another one who shows more compassion, but she is still his slave.

“When you rebel, having to apologize isn’t enough to give you the incentive to change your mind. Punishment—usually painful, and always unpleasant—restores the balance that gets upset when you decide that your will is more important than mine.”

“This was not a choice between freedom and slavery. This was a choice between living in slavery, or dying in slavery. She didn’t want to think about the years stretching out in front of her, devoid of pleasure or happiness. But this was the best deal she was going to get.”

“His father was right. When Parin looked up at him through her tears, it gave him a feeling of power he’d never experienced before. Knowing she didn’t want to obey, and knowing he was going to make her do it anyway, was intoxicating.”

The story is a long journey of dominance and submission; it is an unequal power play that includes a master/slave relationship. The story has many harsh moments, including rape and harsh punishments, and even life and death moments. The dynamics of the two main characters, Parin the slave and Mercer the master, is part love-hate on her part, yet in the end, is freedom the answer? Not all masters are cruel, but even the non-violent ones are very controlling. The story is very explicit and detailed in sex scenes.

First of all, thank you author for giving us not one, but two (!) epilogues. It gave me as a reader a finite ending and I can now end this trilogy feeling “done”. From the second book and probably half of this third installment, I was afraid of how the author would manage to “finish” the larger story that has been the plot that connects all the installments (about the society). But no need to be nervous. She threw some curveballs and some things happened that I could not foresee at all, but she gave the books and the story/stories the ending they deserved and I can sleep well now.

This was the hardest book for me to read in this trilogy. For me, it was the darkest one and sometimes quite heavy. I think it might be due to this being the first book with a male main character that came from this crooked society and had the values and views from this society. My feelings for the characters went up and down during the whole book and sometimes I loved them and sometimes I didn’t. With Mercer, It was sometimes hard to read about how he viewed women and in Parin, it was hard to understand her internal journey. But, Mercer showed great care and love for Parin and I think Parin found a new part of herself that gave her satisfaction in life.

I do believe this author is a magician sometimes. The way she describes how the characters feel in different situations is so bullseye that it is sometimes scary and it feels like she describes exactly what I would feel in those situations.

This book is a very emotional and compelling conclusion to the Midrosian Chronicles. The well-developed characters are deep, with conflicting beliefs and values. The story forces Parin, an independent accountant, into slavery, where she is treated extremely harshly as an object to be used and abused. The author explores the inevitable differences between Parin and the women born and raised into slavery. The well-written book also explores the possibility of the slave owner second guessing his own beliefs. In addition, the creative plot fills in all the missing pieces about how slavery exists on Midros, while the rest of the world condemns it.

Midros, once a poor, agriculture-based planet, is now wealthy beyond measure due to paeolate. However, as is often the case, unlimited wealth brings good and evil, splintering society. The men own the wealth. The women are slaves with no legal rights. Laws are severe, punishments unspeakably cruel. The government of Midros will go to any lengths to keep the new order. Parin Denos is part of a team from Prima visiting Midros. She's the only woman on the team. When they learn what the Midrosian government wants, Parin sees red. Seriously? Provide a tracking system for slaves who've escaped to other planets? The entire team declines the government's extremely lucrative offer. However, as they prepare to leave, soldiers arrive to take Parin into custody. It's only after her arrest that Parin remembers her late mother's heartfelt plea. "Parin, promise me you'll never, ever go to Midros." There was a real reason for that request, and Parin's about to pay dearly for ignoring her mother. Edar Pennis, an influential and powerful paeolate mine owner, soon buys Parin at an exorbitant price. But Parin's not about to accept her new situation lying down. She's defiant, rebellious, refuses to give in. Only she's never seen the sadism and cruelty of which Edar's capable. Even through all this, her spirit remains unbroken, until she goes too far. Edar has his reasons for wanting to break her. When he puts Parin in a life-or-death situation, she gives up and waits for the inevitable. Mercer Pennis, Edar's oldest son, despises his father and everything he stands for. He's seen the sadism and cruelty his father and brother inflict on their slaves. As a result, he's never wanted a slave of his own even though he firmly believes in the Midrosian ways. But events soon spiral out of control. Mercer's forced to make a decision that will change his life forever. Let an innocent die, or let go of the dream he's held in his heart for what seems like forever? He desperately wants to be free. How can he give up his dreams? But can he live with himself if he doesn't? Just how much will all this cost him? And what will be the cost to Parin and Edar as well? Things soon turn to chaos, leaving everything at stake. There are no easy answers. In the end, even Midrosian society may never be the same. Just where do the answers lie, and how much will Mercer and Parin have to sacrifice? Can they find a way to come out of this intact? Or will everything, including both of them, be destroyed?

Sophie Kisker is an author extraordinaire. She's one of the few authors who's an automatic one-click for me. This final book in the Midrosian Chronicles is truly remarkable and, in my opinion, the best in the series. She's once again created a story full of twists and turns, a true roller coaster ride of emotions. I felt each moment of anger, disbelief, uncertainty, joy, possibility, every swirling emotion at both ends of the spectrum and every point in between. The trials, despair, utter wonder, and totally unexpected ending held me riveted. I fell in love with Parin and Mercer. They are so beautifully, wondrously created but still flawed and very human. Ms. Kisker has woven fantasy with reality, created such extraordinary characters, yet still imbues them with the most human of traits. They're entirely believable. She's extraordinarily talented in every way. I give Tears of Surrender my very highest recommendation. Thank you, Sophie Kisker, for creating the perfect ending to this incredible series. I stand in awe of your abilities.

One final note. Please be an informed reader and consumer! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and some extremely dark, nonconsensual/dubious consensual sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, think hard before buying any book you know you won't enjoy. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and all booksellers' websites. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to the book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.

It is both sad and exhilarating to read this final book of the Midrosian Chronicles trilogy. This book does a fantastic job of bringing the story of Midrosia's mistreatment of women to a satisfying conclusion. As with the other two books (and, in my opinion, all of Sophie Kisker's books), Memories and Longings, this one is beautifully written with a depth of both story and characterization not normally found in erotic sci/fi romance. These stories feature three different couples to illustrate the profound difference between non-consensual and consensual slavery. Personally I find it difficult to use the term slavery together with consensual, but that phrase is widely used in BDSM fiction and I do understand how it is used. I can't emphasize enough how well this trilogy was constructed as a whole, and how much enjoyment I got from the overall story. That does not, however, mean these were light reading. In fact it was often very hard for me to keep both eyes open while reading the horrors Parin and many other slaves endured because of the deeply ingrained evil in Midrosian society.

While the larger story and its resolution was fantastic, I did find the conclusion of the relationship between Parin and Mercer a bit less satisfying. Mercer is among the best of men on Midros. He is not inherently cruel, but he is fully indoctrinated in the belief that man are to have complete mastery over women, who only exist to serve. Although he "saves" Parin from a truly evil situation with his father, his patronizing attitude toward Parin and her training as a slave is really, really hard to stomach. Reading about what this woman, who was entirely free one moment and entirely enslaved the next, had to endure was heartbreaking. In my opinion, her actions and reactions to that profound shift in her status were quite believable. Mercer slowly comes to realize the evil women have endured because of an attitude he had previously embraced. I may not agree with all the choices these two protagonists make, but I was thoroughly caught up in their story.

To start, I need to mention that I haven't read the first or second books in this trilogy. I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not having read the first and second books - can be read as a standalone. Although, one word of warning, this book covers events that take place before and after the events of the first two books (according to the timeline provided in the book). Essentially there are some spoilers for the other books.

On the story itself, it is very hot with creative sex scenes (compared to other books in the Blushing books lineup). However, the first few chapters are quite dark and there is some dubious consent, not for the faint of heart. But stick with it, there is an HEA in the works! One thing that stood out in particular for me was how Ms. Kisker dealt with more serious issues like the idea of freedom while writing such a steamy book. She interwove those two very well, with neither feeling out of place at any point in the story. Overall, a great read!

Parin has lived her life as a free woman, until she comes to Midros and gets caught up in their laws, and ends up as a slave. Mercer is the man who saves her from his terrible, cruel, and sadistic father who wants to break and destroy her. Together, they fall in love and manage to not only change each other's lives, but to change the entire world.

Of the 3 Midrosian chronicle books, this is the most intense. Parin has to go through a journey from being a free woman to being a submissive slave, and all that entails. It's difficult for her because the whole mindset is different. A woman who had grown up on Midros just wouldn't have the problems that Parin has, because she just wouldn't understand the things that bother Parin. Mercer is a good man, but the problem is that he's a Midrosian man, which means that he doesn't understand Parin's outlook and perspective either. He tries to help her, and he does, but the problem is that he just doesn't always understand how hard it is for Parin, and he doesn't always adjust for that. Which, I don't suppose he's supposed to have to, being a man and all, but it really made me hate him sometimes. However, I do end up liking him. His love of Parin changes him and his thinking, just as he changes her and her thinking.

The book is really good at bringing everything together to a full circle and winds all around the first two books of the series. It gives a truly satisfying ending to the series. The payoff at the end needs the intensity in the beginning, without that, you don't understand where they started together and how they got to the point they are and how they were able to change everything.

I wish I could give Tears of Surrender more stars than I can. Even after a couple of days, the book lives in my head, and I'm still so attached to Parin and Mercer.

This is the third book and final book in this series. It answers many of the questions that may have arisen in the first 2 books. This is a much darker read than the previous two books. It is also written in two parts and these parts bookcase the storyline of the first two books. It is different in that Parin was not raised on this planet, but soon finds herself sold into bondage with no recourse available to her. This is her story – how she ended up with first one Master and then a second. But was she better off? It is hard to say. Because she was not raised on Midros, she was not in the mindset of all women – servitude and bondage. Even when she gets her second Master, she struggles greatly to accept her reality. One day she was a woman with a successful career and the next she is a woman with no legal rights stuck on the planet of Midros. She cannot let it go – her freedom, the injustice of the situation and the treatment of women on the planet. Mercer, her new Master is a strong, dominant, and very strict Master. He is unyielding in his ownership of her. And this results in many, many difficult lessons for Parin. But somewhere along their way of their relationship they forge a love of each other. At the same time, if you have read the first 2 books, the world of Midros is slowly yet surely crumbling. The mystery of why her first Master was so abusive to her in the past when he bought her and in the present when he arranged for his son, her second Master, to be out of town gets answered. At the same time all the questions that may have arisen in the first two books all get answered in this one. In the end however, the question will come down to – will love enough for an HEA on the planet of Midros?

This third book of the Midrosian Chronicles tells not only the story of Parin and Mercer, but also how and why Midros was turned into a slave planet.
Ms Kiskers writing is always gripping and sucks you into her tales from the beginning, but this time she has done the impossible and has produced by far the most intense piece of storytelling yet.
From the beginning you are dumped into the feelings of helplessness and terror of a free woman reduced to the state of a property without rights. On the other side there are the men of Midros who take the right of owning slaves as their inalienable privilege. But there are differences in the way the "Masters" treat their "property". Some of the women live a relatively quiet life, while others are bought by sadistic torturers that live out their worst phantasies. Parin ends up with the latter, and after only days she is ready to end her life to escape the abuse. The last minute rescuer is the son of her owner, who trades his lifes dreams for the ownership of Parin. Having basically the same mindset as all Midrosian males, he lacks the tendency to mindless cruelty.
In painfully slow steps Ms Kisker immerses the reader in the developement of a relationship where both parties learn to understand and accept each others needs.
Unexpected disasters put their precarious relation into jeopardy, but also lead them to the discovery of secrets so far reaching, that the whole Midrosian society is spinning on its axis.
Once again Ms Kiskers powerfully discriptive language takes you into the depths of the human psyche, and the expression of carnal interactions.

First off, Ms Kisker in my opinion writes books that draw a person in and makes it impossible to set the book down and this one is no exception. Parin's parents escaped Midros with her when she was a baby and her mother made her promise not to ever go there. When she was offered a promotion the lure was to much and she went. When she was there they found out who she was and she was arrested and put up for auction. Marcer was the son of the man that won Parin at the auction, he ends up rescuing her and giving up his dream of being a lawyer. Parin and Marcer are both interesting and so complex that at times I couldn't understand why Parin acted the way she did and also how Marcer could treat Parin how he did but at the same time love her but in the end it all makes sense. Second, this book brings everything full circle with all the characters from all 3 books in this series and Ms Kisker does it so beautifully. Third, a must read especially if you have read both 1 and 2 of this series if you haven't I would recommend for you to go back and read them before you read this one. I wish I could write as beautiful of a review as this book deserves. I love Sophie Kisker books. I love the worlds she creates, the characters, and the moral and ethical dilemmas. In this book, Parin finds her freedom stolen. In one instant, she goes from free woman, to slave- possession- with no more rights than her master will allow her. She suffers so much abuse (trigger warning in case you need it). When she makes it to Mercer, is he better? Ooohh- how mad I could get at Mercer. But that only made the book more fun. He truly sees Parin's purpose (purpose, not role) to serve men. She really struggles with this and her responses to his sexual mastery over her. But there are so many more layers to this book: other relationships and the overall socio-political environment. There are two previous books. Read them first! You don't have to. But they are so delicious too, so why wouldn't you? 5 scintillating stars!!! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This is a totally unique story of a strong, independent, successful young woman raised in a free society. When she accepts a position that takes her to the planet Miros, she is stripped of ALL her freedoms and forced to accept the life of a slave. She is angry, belligerent, and defensive. This earns her nothing but punishments. How will she learn to cope with this new life? Will she continue to search for her freedom or find a way to accept her slavery?

This is a heart wrenching story of a young woman’s battle to find a path in life that can fulfill all her inner needs. It takes her intelligence, stamina, ability to communicate, and her unselfish desire to please to help her make a decision that only she can truly live with!

I highly recommend this story that took me on a wild ride through freedom, slavery, good and evil. It made me think and examine my own feelings about choices in life.

I thought with the first release in this series that the author had created a truly dark world, yet with each release the planet of Midros seems just a little darker...a little more hopeless. Somehow in the middle of such darkness the author manages to create a relationship that seems impossible, yet turns into something quite remarkable. Parin was very much like any woman, thrust into an impossible situation, struggling to survive. That fact that she was just a normal woman, unaware of the horrors, made the story that much darker. I'm not sure how to describe Mercer. At times he seemed a night in shining armor, other times deserving of a very slow, very painful death. I'm sad to see this series end, but glad the author decided to reveal all of Midros' secrets in this final installment.

The last book in the Midrosian Chronicles and it is my favorite of the series. It takes place before, during and after the first two books, but it can be read as a stand alone.

This is the story of Parin, she is a free woman, but is then taken and sold. Her first experiences are truly horrible, but then Mercer comes into her life and her journey really begins. Sophie Kisker does a great job of showing Parin’s struggles, confusion and then acceptance of her new life. Not only does Parin change is also shows how Mercer grows into his role as master and the connection and relationship they have. I really enjoyed this book.

Kisker owes me again!!!

Kisker never fails to disappoint. With book three in this series, I couldn’t put it down again. Parin was so strong and rebellious. Mercer was formidable and dominant. You grew to love the characters in the book. She did an awesome job making you feel a part of the book. Also, tying in the other two books into the book seamlessly. I loved how she took you through the ups and downs of the characters and how they dealt with it. This books was wrapped up very nicely, she could possibly write more to this series who knows. Giggles. Definitely a recommend.

This is the finale book in the trilogy. Following the final part of Matias's story and the Deminian forces struggle to help with other planet forces to free the slave women of Miros.

Parins story is different to the other slave women of Miros, she has a difficult and painful journey which reveals shocking facts connecting her family to Mercer's.

This third book is not always easy to read, and at times the subject matter can be difficult to comprehend. I felt angry towards Mercer's character at times. 

Whilst the outcome is mainly happy, it was not the type of ending I was expecting.

The trilogy is a great read.

Great Series Conclusion!!

Story #3 of Miros, starts with a startling turn of events when a visiting female accountant Parin is found to originally be from Miros, and instantly becomes a slave as an adult. A brutal result to an auction, then an improved situation, yet still a “no rights” slave.

Raw and gritty as when one is not born to it, there is no give or acceptance to the slavery, which is indisputable law on this planet.

This story ends up running parallel to the other stories in the series, which means more life-changing decisions need to be made.

Devastating, Emotional, Horrific, Fascinating
Couldn’t put it down. Lost some sleep because of it. Case of Stockholm syndrome? Maybe. He grows to love her. Her submission, her rebellion, her loveliness, her intelligence.
This last book in the series encompasses the other two, starts before #1 and ends after #2. Shows how farfetched the abuse of power can go. How twisted love can become, when expectations are not met. Yes, a very dark book, very well written with empathy for all characters with their different situations and backgrounds. And how a view on life can change a person. The story in this series is not easily forgotten.

This is the third story in this series and the darkest one. Parin is strong and submissive and does not expect what happens when she returns to Miros. Mercer is a product of his heritage who did not expect his feelings when he became Parin's master. He is a sadist and she eventually craves his dominance. Their relationship grows and changes as life and Miros changes. I enjoyed their relationship. This story is very well written but not for the faint hearted as there are some very abusive scenes. I received an advanced review copy and I am leaving an honest review. This is a very well done hot sexy story with very vivid descriptions.

An independent woman forced to the level of sex slave. Mercer Pennis' father is her new master. Before long, Mercer convinces his father to sign Parin over to him. There are many twists and turns in this story. Can love conquer all in such an evil world? Harsh consensual snd non-consensual punishment and sex, anal.

A great finale to the Midrosian series, Parin goes Midros despite promising never to go. She soon finds out why when she is stripped of her freedom and becomes a slave. She is rescued from her first owner who is satisfied with letting her die and learns how to become as slave through Mercer. This has very explicit non-con scenes and is not for the faint of heart. The struggle to feel the entrapment as a previously free woman is difficult to read at times. A good book and a great finale to the series

Yummy! First know that this is a story about forced submission and slavery but has a happy ever after! This book is a great finish to the series. Parin travels to Midros and is found to be a runaway slave. Quite a surprise to Parin! Mercer rescues her from a very abusive master but he has to sacrifice his own goals to do it. The story follows their struggles as they learn to be slave and master. Throw in planetary take overs and it's quite the ride! I voluntarily received an advanced reader copy of this book.

Sophie Kisker has excellent writing skills and knows how to enthrall the audience! The book follows a single woman who attends a meeting on a planet on which all women are slaves and is discovered to be the child of an escaped slave and thus sold into slavery herself. The sadistic man who buys her uses her horribly and discards her to his son in return for the son taking over the family mining company, giving up plans to be a lawyer. The horrible idea of slavery is explored and by the end of the story, all women are freed…if they want.

To say that this books starts out with dark, dark intensity would be an understatement! OMG!!! Most definitely check out the warnings!

This story grabbed me, and wouldn't let me go.

I was rooting for Parin.

I was hoping Mercer would be merciful!

The travesty the women of Miros faced!

The strength of many of the inhabitants!

Hope.

This story, and the other Surrender stories were so emotional. So thought occupying! My goodness, I'll be thinking about these stories for a long time. Thankfully, it's fiction!

Tears of Surrender is the third book in the Midrosian Chronicles. On Midros woman don't have any say. When Parin forgets she isn't supposed to go to Midros, she is captured and then sold as a slave. Mercer rescues her from the hands of her sadistic master and their journey together begins.

This is no fluffy sci-fi read. The story is sometimes pretty dark and there are some explicit dubcon/noncon scenes. Some scenes were a bit too much for me, but I enjoyed reading most of the book.

Why didn't she listen to her mother and not go near Midros. The promotion was calling to her.
She goes to Midros and uncovers problems that no one could have foreseen. Her life changes
in ways she can't even had imagined and she is one of the women on Midros that learns
what her mother went through. She is to be a slave but not one that has been trained.
THis has so many twists and turns and not always for the better either. Still a compelling
book read.

I don’t know how to tell you how good this book is. I absolutely loved it! There is so much more to each of the characters and the twists in the story. The author is very talented and creative in her writing. It has action, danger, romance, adventure, heartache, another great book from this fantastic author with awesome characters. Please keep them coming. I volunteered to read and review this book.

The only thing that could make this book okay is if the author donated all of the money made on it to battered women's shelters to help the women who have suffered the atrocities that she is trying to glamorize in this book. Rape is never romantic. The MMC made me disgusted (although the author desperately tried to dilute his actions to "see, he's not as bad as the actual villain" and I'm tired of this trope)

“Parin, promise me you’ll never, ever go to Midros.”
She of course went there.
The story details a journey of dominance and submission. There is a lot of sex in this book, and a lot of dubious consent, but it is very well written, and at times necessary for the plot line.
