Shifter Novel
Saturday night is shifter night…
It’s that one night of the week when the shifters head into town to blow off a little steam. Sometimes, when they’re lucky enough, it’s to find a mate … a sweet, human mate … since shifter females are in such short supply.

Winston wishes it was his turn to find a partner because he’s done with all the screwing around. Done with all the meaningless one-night-stands. He might head into town when it’s his turn, but he’s staying far away from temptation. He’ll wait until his name comes up on the mating list and then he’ll settle down.

His good intentions are blown to hell when he meets Ana, a timid female struggling with an event from her past. Who is this beautiful creature? This broken, sad shadow of herself. Winston promises to help her. Hell, they’ll help each other. He might have vowed celibacy but he’s not dead. Not by a long damn shot. This way, he can spend time with a beautiful female without any expectations and in return, he’ll help her get over her fears.

Problem is though, friends should not be this attracted to one another. They definitely shouldn’t be this intrigued by each other. Keeping his hands off of Ana is becoming an impossibility. Will he be able to let her go when the time comes? Thing is, he’s not so sure anymore.

No cliffhanger! No cheating and a guaranteed HEA.
The Story Contains strong sexual themes/language and is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

I was disappointed in this story in comparison to the Bride Hunt and other books in these related series. There is very little action and any sexual tension was obscured by the emotional problems of Ana. I do understand and sympathize with her problems, but it's not my favorite way to spend my time and it isn't what I want to read in these hot little vampire and shifter romances from Ms. Hartnady. That being said, I have read almost all kf her books, so I will read the next in this series, too.

Untethered is the first sexy book in the Shifter Night series. The story revolves around shifters who meet the one and their lives are changed forever. But there are dramas along the way. That's when the fun begins.

While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer. The characters are fun and loving and dictated by their rules, but what they discover more than they ever imagined.

Strong, sexy alpha males in protective roles! Who doesn't love that

I love, love, love Untethered! It's no secret I'm a diehard Charlene Hartnady fan and have been for years. I've read every single book she's ever written and enjoyed them all. I've followed her career and watched as she became one of the most reliable authors in the paranormal romance genre today, consistently releasing original, unique, imaginative, well-crafted and edited stories, time after time. Hartnady is one of very few authors on my automatic one-click list. When she releases a new book or offers a preorder, I never even bother to read the blurb or look at the price; I just snap it right up! And I've never ever regretted a purchase. I subscribe to Amazon Kindle Unlimited but love her work so much, I buy her books rather than borrow, simply because I want to own them so I can read them again and again. That's quite a recommendation in itself. And her latest release, Untethered, Is no exception! I was thrilled when I learned Hartnady was releasing a spin-off of her mega-popular The Chosen Series, but the inspiration for these stories would be primarily shifters. All the paranormal species in Hartnady's Sweetwater Texas world, which includes vampires, elves, and a large variety of shifters, are in need of females - fertile females. And now that the Vampire Kings have successfully launched their 'Date A Vampire' campaign, which is nothing more than a politically correct way of describing their 'Breeding Program' brainchild, human females have become fair game and they all want to mate a vampire. This is the premise for Hartnady's The Chosen Series, another fabulous series especially you enjoy hunky, possessive vampires, but the books in the Shifter Night Series have storylines featuring the shifters of Hartnady's Sweetwater World who come into town once a month to blow off steam at the Dark Horse, a bar where shifters mix with human women who want to party hardy and do the dirty with the strapping, handsome, well-built party animals. Roar! And these guys really know how to make a woman scream...and not in fright! Shifter Night has been mentioned in several of Hartnady's previous stories and I'd so hoped she would make it into a series... and she did! But some of these guys want more than just a good time, they want to find love. Unfortunately, there are so many shifters looking for mates that the Alphas have had to start their own program. It's not really an organized campaign per se but they call it 'The List'. Any of the shifters wanting to date a human female have to put their name in the hat and wait their turn. The shifters can't afford to draw attention to themselves by stealing all the available women, right? It just wouldn't be fair to all the human males of Sweetwater since all the women want to date shifters! I volunteer! lol... This is the basic premise for the Shifter Night Series.

I tend to get a little carried away when talking about Hartnady's work so let's talk details about this book. Untethered is a well-crafted, fast-paced, easy to follow, imaginative, full-length, standalone paranormal tale filled with great characters, riveting drama, heartrending angst, heated attraction, steamy passion and heartwarming romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue is snappy, well executed and flows effortlessly. But without a doubt, my favorite component of every Hartnady story is the cast of diverse and engaging characters. I was instantly smitten with handsome, loyal, and kindhearted wolf-shifter Winston who had grown tired of quick hookups and one night stands. He had sworn off meaningless sex and was ready to find a woman with whom he could have a future. Sadly, he had no idea how long it would be before his name came up on the list which meant he wasn't eligible to take a mate and couldn't even seriously date a female, but that didn't stop him from yearning for a real connection with Ana, a sweet human female he met at the Dark Horse. And Ana, OMG...her story just broke my heart. Ana is a hardworking emergency room nurse trying to pick up the pieces of her life and start again, but a tragic event in her past has affected her so severely that she still experiences paralyzing panic attacks. One of the things I really loved about this story was the real issues both characters were trying to deal with. It made the storyline so much more realistic and emotional. But there was also a lot of humor in this story. The surprise fishing trip outing was hilarious. Obviously, Hartnady has experience with a disastrous fishing trip as have I, complete with the aversion to using live bait and barbed hooks! lol... So darn cute! But once Winston and Ana got out of their own way, these two characters were so perfect for each other. Sadly, they were the last to realize it. Thankfully, with a little help from their friends, they both finally realized what they each wanted was right in front of them and stopped fighting the inevitable, although it was sometimes hilarious and quite often heartbreaking watching them struggle. I snickered, snorted, giggled, snuffled, and sobbed through the entire book but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and entertained. No spoilers from me but I will say this...Handsome, burly shifter who's tired of one night stands and ready to settle down with a mate-check! Beautiful nurse with a tragic past who has panic attacks and an aversion to dating and relationships-check! A cast of great characters-check! A mysterious and very dangerous new enemy-check! Humor, heartache, heated attraction and sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more!

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers. Also, I will say, if you're into instant love paranormal romance, this may not be the book for you. Winston and Ana's relationship was very realistic and progressed slowly, building from a mutual immediate attraction, which both resisted, to an inevitable fiery blaze which could not be ignored. Yes, people don't always make the best decisions but it's called life. The real accomplishment is learning from your mistakes and Winston and Ana both had a lot to learn! lol... Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! I can hardly wait to read Ash's story in Book 2!

Winston, a wolf shifter, has had his fill of one night stands. Now he plans to spend Shifter Nights looking for a permanent companion rather than someone to warm his bed for the night. Enter Ana; she's fighting to overcome a traumatic past that won't allow her to date or form bonds with anyone anymore. Understanding that she needs the support of a male without the pressure of any expectations, the two strike up a friendship.

He allows her to experience a dating life once again without any commitments or attachments. Ana learns to trust once again and looks forward to spending time with Winston whenever he is town But when comes the time for Ana to graduate to the next step, Winston is unwilling to compromise his commitment to wait for his mate. When a panic attack grips her as she attempts to sleep with another shifter, Winston rescues her. He then realizes that Ana is the one he was waiting for but Ana is unable to reciprocate and runs away in a panic.

Once Winston is removed from the equation Ana realizes that it was because of him that she was able to overcome the tragic loss that she faced. Only she had never been honest with Winston about what really happened. And now she may have lost him for good.

This book also introduces a new creature that is threatening the shifters village. I'm looking forward to seeing what else Charlene Hartnady has in store for us with this new series, and especially to the story of Ash, the bear alpha.

I received an Advanced Reviewers Copy from the author for voluntary review consideration.

I can't say it was bad exactly. It also wasn't good. I never started to care about any of the characters, conflict fell flat and while I was constantly told about h/H chemistry I just didn't feel it was there. Eventually I started skimming.

To be fair I have to disclose here that I was pretty tired and somewhat sleepy when I started reading it but good books have a history of shaking me out of fatigue.

I have read other books from the author before, some of them pretty good fun, especially The Bride Hunt series.

I loved it!

Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book one of three in The Shifter Knight series.
(Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

Saturday night is shifter night. It’s that one night of the week when the shifters head into Sweetwater to blow off a little steam. Sometimes, when they’re lucky enough, it’s to find a mate, a sweet, human mate, since shifter females are in such short supply.

Winston wishes it was his turn to find a partner because he’s done with all the messing around.

Problem is though, friends should not be this attracted to one another. They definitely shouldn’t be this intrigued by each other. Keeping his hands off of her is becoming an impossibility. Will he be able to let her go when the time comes? Thing is, he’s not so sure anymore. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Winston and Ana

Winston, a wolf shifter, is tired of going to Shifter Night and being used by women and using them. The women want nothing but sex. He decided that he will still go, but not sleep with anyone. He wants a relationship, but he has to wait until his name comes onto the list stating that it is his turn to find a mate.
Ana has had a trama in her past. She has panic attacks every time she tries to go on a date or even thinks about having a relationship. Her best friend talks her into going to Shifter Night with her.
Ana meets Winston. After talking for a while, she tells him about the panic attacks but not all of what originally caused it. They decide to help each other out. She keeps all the women from hitting on him and he fake-dates her as her therapist recommends.
They start having feelings for each other. But she can't seem to be honest with herself about any feelings let alone tell him.
They only get to see each other once a month on Shifter Night. He doesn't get to go one night because his Alpha (Ward from a previous series) is attacked by something that has no scent, is so fast that he couldn't even see it and has huge claws that tore up his alphas back along with crushing six ribs and a lung. They realize this is what has been scaring away all of the animals in the area. So Winston stays to help protect the village.
This story has a HEA of the couple, but the strange animal will continue to the next book.
Totally recommend any Charlene Hartnady books, including this one.

Wolf Shifter and Human are Friends in Need

Ana has had a serious event happen in her past and is really trying to get past her severe panic attacks.
Winston sees Ana trying to get control of herself and has her sit down to just talk as friends.
Ana and Winston decide they both need a friend to talk to and just hang out with each other until both of their problems can be taken care of.
As this pair of friends spend more time with each other, their respect and trust build but neither of them want a relationship.
The Shifters only have one Saturday night a month to go to Sweetwater to let off some steam and maybe find themselves mates, Winston is only going to relax until he meets Ana, then he tries to see her once a month to help her work through her anxiety whenever she feels pressured into having a relationship that could turn into something more.
I won't tell more about this book as I am afraid to reveal too much and give away spoilers.
Know that like every other book I have read of Charlene Hartnady's, I loved this one and cannot wait to read Ash's story next.

Great Shifter Book

I just finished reading the first two books in the Protectors series by this author & really liked them, so I decided to try a book from another series by her. I really enjoyed Untethered and it's storyline and look forward to reading the next book in Shifter Night series. I've already. Purchased books two & three in hopes they are just as good. I love that I've found a new favorite author. She builds on the characters so you feel like you know them & what they have been thru that makes them act the way they do. I can't wait to find out more about a mysterious creature in the future books, too. This series is completely different from the Protectors, too. So often you feel if you read one book by an author, others by them are almost the same, but not here. Looking forward to reading more by Mrs. Hartnady.

Ana's panic attacks have prevented her from having a normal life and have destroyed any chance of her having a personal relationship with anyone. When her therapist suggests that she role play dating someone, she remains very skeptical. This storyline was very unusual and completely surprising. The intense slow burn after Ana meets Winston is delightful. The moment Ana refused to own up to her true feelings and rejected Winston, left me feeling like Ana had lost her last opportunity to be with him. He had been patient. He had been considerate. He had gone out of his way to help Ana return to a more normal life. I felt his disappointment, discouragement, and despair. This well written and very emotional story held my attention until the very end. Completely captivating!!!

Winston and Anna

Anxiety attacks plagued Anna for over four years due to a tragedy suffered when assaulted by a gunman and a death occurred.
As part of her therapy, she endeavors to make a friendship pact with kind hearted Winston, a wolf shifter who comes to town once a month as part of a stag run. Only he is tired of the one night stands and is ready to put down roots with the right woman.
The couple's once a month 'friends date' turns heated and conflicts end up in a separation.
This is a good story, but my reasons for giving it a 3.5 rating is it became a little monotonous during the monthly visits and the conversions repeated in the same vein, which became a bit boring.

Loved this book!! Actually, I absolutely love everything that Charlene Hartnady has ever written! And I've read about 99% of all her books so far. She's created this amazingly wonderful world of supernatural creatures/shifters that is absolutely beautiful!

This story is funny, cute, heartwarming and oh so heartbreaking. It deals with the effects one goes through in suffering from PTSD. Of working through every single emotion one experiences due to a great loss. Time may heal all wounds, but time means nothing if one never learns to acknowledge and accept what has happened in order to let go to move forward.

Awesome Love Story

I loved this story, so touching, heart wrenching, and Romantic all in one. If you have ever known anyone with a crippling anxiety disorder that was ruining their lives, then this story will really speak to you. And & Winston's story is as sweet as they come. One's tired of the endless string of meaningless one night stands that Austin's his nonexistent love life and the other is desperate to have love again but the memories of have the love of here live taken from her in a violent accident has crippled her ability to move on. Their journey is very worth the read. DanaLynn

I loved Ana!

Untethered: Shifter Night: Book 1
By Charlene Hartnady
Kindle unlimited purchase
Ana has panic attacks so when she was asked to go out with her friends on Shifter Night she said NO. But they talked her into it.
Winston has had enough, enough of going to Shifter Night at the ‘Dark Horse’. He wants more. He wants a mate, a family. So he is waiting for his name to be at the top of the list.
This is the first book in this series. I'm touched by how Winston fell for Ana. Even though Ana had her panic attacks she was still strong and brave. To go through what she did was unthinkable.

Untethered (Shifter Night Book 1)

As always Charlene Hartnady never disappoints, Untethered , was awesome and while you will not get any spoiler alerts from me, this book could be left as a stand alone, because it does leave off as a HEA, but does also have a small cliffhanger if you want to continue with the series and if you love any other of her series you will want to read this and continue..

This book was different from her other series because she brings in an everyday scenario, and one that is true and dear to me...

Definitely a keeper and and recommend..

Cliffhanger with lots of things unsolved

I enjoyed reading the program with the vampires and then several other of her books yet this one was a cliffhanger with lots of answered questions leaving me to wonder why she even bother to put them in the book if she was going to ignore them. I wish instead of the Cliffhanger she just extended the book made it larger or made it more pronounced in the description that you would be reading the whole series to hopefully find the answers to the questions she poses

Lost and Found love

An interesting story of a woman who has both lost and who finds love... It takes a long time and strangely they skip over the whole part where she moves to the village and the 3 months even her first time seeing his wolf... yep there is a lot of skipping time... every chapter seems a month has passed or even several months. The parts you get to read about are great but toward the end I sorta felt there was too much skipping. There is a kinda cliffhanger as well although I am not sure it has to do with Ana and her wolf. It is entertaining and fast paced.

Filled with fake dating, if that is even possible with a man that is attracted to you and you to him. I guess it puts less pressure to try and be something you think the other wants you to be. But, that being said you show each other who you really are and if you have the chemistry like these two do then things get kind of on the confusing side. She is trying to live again and he is just waiting till he can live. Pretty quick story and everyone one knows what's going to happen but a a good read it was.

Great start

What a great start to a new series, Charlene is one of my favourite paranormal romance writers and this new series doesn't disappoint. I hope she still continues with the other series, a mate for ..... it's my favourite but this was a solid start. I did mid the normal instant attraction that normally comes with the shifters, that's what I love the most normally, they scent their mate and they are done for, this story was more of a slow burn.

Wish I could give it more stars

Ana has been scarred emotionally so deeply by an event in her past she hasn't been able to let go, move on and is barely making it in some aspects of her life. Now at a point where she is ready for a change she meets Winston, tall broad shoulders, super sexy, patient and utterly kind! A new friendship blooms and changes wonderfully. Charlene has outdone herself again!

Cute story.

This was definitely different from the others. Perfect strangers who become fast friends who fall in love without realizing it. I can understand why Ana is the way she is considering her tragic and traumatic past. Winston was beyond amazing and extremely patient in helping her overcome her issues. I'm extremely curious to know what it is that attacked ward, has no scent and is extremely fast. I'm at a loss and can't wait to find out.

Loved this book!!!

Ana and Winston are so perfect together!! So glad Ana was able to overcome her fears and make a happy life with Winston. And I loved that Winston knew exactly what he wanted! I really loved this first book in the ‘Shifter Night’ series! I’m sooo excited to see what could be the mysterious feline that attacked Ward and is lurking around the wolves! And what they have to do with the herds that are so scared and moving away. Can’t wait to read Ash’s story!!

Interesting

A good first book in this series Winston is a wolf shifter and fed up of the same bar scene where once a month the shifters go to pick up women he is bored and wants more and decided to be celibate until he finds the one. Ana has some really serious issues and has massive panic attacks when she tries to date after losing her husband and baby years before. But when she and Winston meet things change and before long chemistry takes over. An enjoyable read.

Plot slow, but good

I found a few grammatical errors that irritated me because they should have been fixed before releasing the book. The very slow romance was boring. Yes, she suffered loss. She had therapy. She was so stuck...and so was the story. The back plot is very interesting. I wish the author had invested more into it. Well, on to next book in series. I hope it's not a yawn-er!

Great read.

The first in a new book series (wonder if we can talk Charlene into expanding on that), we now meet the Shifters. Now we caught a brief glimpse of them in the Program series and let me tell you... This sure makes a girl wish for a Shifter of her own. As always, love your work Charlene.

Hot shifter romance

Finally more about shifter nights!! This series is a spin off of Charlene's popular vampire and program series. You don't need to read then to understand this series but it would help. Love the characters and the building to their relationship. Definitively recommend the read.
