Lisa Allen has spent her entire life being different, and being different was perfectly fine with her as long as her two best friends were at her side. But now both of her friends have gone West to marry Mounties, leaving Lisa without their constant companionship. Lisa’s mother makes her realize she wants to be a Mountie’s wife as well, so she goes to see Miss Hazel, the matchmaker who helped her two friends find happiness. Wesley Jacobson has never known what it was like to have a family, filling the gap with his fellow Mounties and the people he serves. When he hears that there’s a matchmaker willing to introduce Mounties to mail-order brides, he immediately sends off a letter, having no idea what to expect. What he didn’t anticipate was being sent a bride with cerebral palsy who he sees as weak and incapable. Will Lisa be able to convince Wesley that she’s as capable as any other wife in the West? Or will they spend their entire lives at cross purposes?
Lisa has felt lonely as Jess and Joann are now married to mounties and she wants a life of her own. She goes to see Miss Hazel and she has a surprise letter from Jess asking about other brides for more mounties in the north. Lisa is picked for Wesley.
After learning to cook and take care of a house the women and Miss Hazel set off to the Yukon to have the ladies get married. With little Sophie going along they finally arrive.
Wesley sees Lisa get off the train and hopes that is not his bride to be. She has a dog for one and looks very fragile. He learns that she is his bride to be and they walk to his cabin to get married.
Lisa has cerebral palsy and wants to be stronger and Wesley wants to take care of her.
There are some funny moments and then some tantrums. Overall the book was good.
Lisa was too trying hard to the point that I find her annoying. She claimed that she was strong and self-sufficient but she kept on complaining. Additionally, she slammed the door and threw Wesley's boots on the door after their first fight. No strong, self-sufficient person will complain and throw tantrums! Lastly, her sassiness was sooo fake; so unnatural. She was simply a spoiled brat!
I think Wesley had a pedophilic tendency that was why he fell in love with a woman child. It was not Lisa's handicap that made her unattractive, it was her personality.
Lisa Allen's 2 best friends become Mail Order Brides to Mounties in the first round of this Series. I have so enjoyed getting to know the country of Canada. Lisa decided she too wants to become a Mail Order Bride. She has a form of Cerebral Palsy. Miss Hazel gives her a bit of extra training before the rest of the girls arrive. The four girls are taught the things Miss Hazel feels they need to learn about managing a house. They embark to their new home in Yukon Territory. Wesley Jacobsen is waiting at the train station. He wants a wife and has hopes she will be pretty and strong to handle the winters in the Yukon. He also has hopes she will be a good cook. When Lisa arrives with her small fluffy dog Sophie, she is very pretty but she limps. Wesley is taken aback and doesn't know how to respond at first. He fears if he touches her he will break her. He doesn't know yet how strong willed and capable she is. Good days and bad days are part of Lisa's life and have been. She sets out to prove to herself that after a lifetime of being coddled by her family that she can take care of herself and a husband. Clara the cougar cub will cause a few problems when Lisa insists on taking care of her damaged leg, without Wesley's knowledge. Wesley wants to take care of Lisa, but he goes about it differently from her parents who she said smothered her. He wants to make life easier for her by making things for her that will make her daily tasks easier for her to do, not doing things for her. The learn to become a couple in time. Lisa is a sassy strong woman and Wesely is a tough Mountie. There are natives and the onset of a Yukon winter in this story along with love and awareness for CP. Well thought out plot and fantastic characters. You will enjoy this book immensely!
Oh, this is one of the best stories I have read by Kirsten Osbourne. I loved this story as it takes someone who was born with Cerebral Palsy and was treated as fragile all her life and just wanted to be able to learn to live on her own and be a normal person for as normal as she can be. Her mother told her that Miss Hazel could probably help by finding a husband for her. She gets training to cook and clean and sew, and all the things a wife needs to know. Since people were always doing things for her she really wanted this but she didn’t have the confidence to do these things. She has one arm that gets weak some days and one leg that she ends up having to drag and somethings have muscle spasms so bad that she can’t hardly move. She does get a match and she will be married to a Mountie in the Yukon Territory. She has three other women who are also going to be trained quickly to get to the Yukon Territory before the snow starts to fall and the train can’t get there. Lisa and Maryann find out they will be in the same place and that is a really good thing. Lisa also has to take her precious dog along and she just hopes her new husband is okay with that and her physical problems. Wesley see’s this really pretty woman gets off the train but she has a dog and that is the last thing he wanted. But he finds out that she is his bride. Then all the fun begins and some trouble but this is a great story about triumph over diversity. A story about becoming a strong woman that no one thought possible. This is one of those stories that can make you laugh and cry and just applaud the outcome of everything.
I really recommend you read this book. You can read this fifth book in the series as a read alone or start with book one in this multi author series. It is worth the read and I also enjoyed the first four books as well.
Lisa felt lost when her best friends went to become brides to their Mounties. Wanting to live life as an adult, capable of taking care of her own home led Lisa to seek out Miss Hazel. Little did she know, Miss Hazel had already planned to find Lisa a husband.
Wesley finds out his bride is handicapped when she steps off the train. He felt her to be too fragile to live in the Yukon. Little did he know, Lisa didn't see herself as a cripple and sets out to prove her worth to herself and her husband.
Throw in Kaska Indians, a happy dog and a baby cougar and you have a wild ride of a story!
Once again, the RNWMP Mounties have met their match!
I like this series. The way they are tying it all together and the overarching story line is fun. This particular book though seemed almost like it didn’t get edited. At times i actually had to reread a section to figure out who “she” was referring to and the transitions seemed a little choppy; dropping part of the plot line then finally tying it up later by answering the readers’ questions about things like what actually happened to that cougar at times that seemed forced. I would probably not have finished this one if not for the fact that I didn’t want to miss something potentially important in flow of the series.
I liked finding out who Lisa would end up with, but I didn't see the romance as much as in some of the other books. While I admired her determination, I thought at times her independence was excessive. I also thought she took lightly her lies by omission. Wesley definitely underestimated her in the beginning, so it was good to see him come around. However, I don't think that Lisa met him half-way. She came across as obstinate and acted like her sass was cute and attractive, when at times it was disrespectful and dangerous.
What an encouraging and wonderful love story! The fact that someone who saw themselves as broken from painful illnesses was able to overcome their mental issues and work around their physical issues to find love is inspiring. There are many people today that struggle with similar problems, maybe not this particular disease, that can relate to the character here and be inspired to get up and improve their lives. It's made me see I have more to give. Thanks Kirsten!
Lisa is learning to be self sufficient after years of letting others do things for her. After are two best friends have moved away to marry members of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police she decides to become a mail order bride for another mountie and leave the town of Ottawa where she's lived her entire life with her family. Not only does she learn to cook and keep house, she also learns a lot about herself and works to make herself stronger.
The previous books in this series were located in Squirrel Ridge Junction. Now that all those Mounties have brides, we switch to Moose Lick in the Yukon territory. I was very intrigued with the character of Lisa in the first two books. I was disappointed Miss Hazel didn't choose to send her to Squirrel Ridge Junction, but I definitely agree she needed to be away from the people she grew up with so she could learn her own strength. This was a fun entertaining story!
This book spoke to me for the main part of the subject of the book. Just like Lisa, I also have Cerebral Palsy. The only difference between us is that Lisa has CP Hemiplegia (effects one leg and one arm) and I have CP Diplegia (effects both of the legs). I also loved how Lisa is so independent and always wants to feel like a "normal" person.
LISA: "Hey, Wesley?" WESLEY: "Yes?" LISA: "I love you, and I'm so glad I'm your wife." WESLEY: "I love you right back." LISA: "Because you know what's best for you?" WESLEY: "Because I can't imagine not loving you." LISA: "I like that."
This is the book I have been waiting for. I really wanted to see what kind of Mountie Ms. Hazel would pick for Lisa. I love Clara the cougar and I look forward to seeing what will come next for the other ladies. This book was very entertaining but thought provoking. We don't usually see a heroine with a handicap.
Ms. Hazel strikes again. Having discovered match making her true passion, Ms. Hazel has gathered four more brides for Mountie brides in the northern wilderness. Wesley worries that his intended is strong enough to survive in the cold outreaches of the Yukon. Lisa is just as determined that her weakened limbs will not keep her from leading a normal life.
I loved this story! I have my own struggles and could identify with Lisa! But I can see how difficult I may have made my husband's life sometimes and caused him angst. I generally find some typos and/or discrepancies, but I didn't find any in this story! Good job!
I am never disappointed when I read a book by Kristen Osbourne! Again she didn't disappoint! I loved Wesleyan story and his mail order bride. I am a nurse and have worked with many a patient with CP. I am glad you could bring this into a special character in this book! Thank you for a great read that kept me reading through till the end.
I like the read but feel like there could be so much more to the story line like maybe a face off with the mother cougar or something like that... I didn't appreciate the book being vague about it when it was so prominent in the story... Her ailment was vague as well would've given it a 2 1/2 because it's not quite a 3 yet...
Lisa has cerebral palsy and has a weak leg and arm. She's determined to be a good wife and does all she can. Wesley doubts her abilities and she has to prove them.
This is a clean romance without any sex scenes. I was disappointed by Wesley's lack of faith in her abilities but he does care about her and want to help.
This was a wonderful book showing disabilities are not limited. It was written with strength and love. I would recommend this book to anyone who was told they can't because Lisa shows you that you can.
If you ate looking for a fun read look no further. The series is full of laughs and joy and this new addition is no exception. Sweet story, likeable characters and overall fun read.
What a great story about the strength of will to overcome disability and not be an invalid. Finding ways to make life easier and persevering under any circumstances. And the love of a handsome Canadian Mountie too.
Reading Lisa's story is pure delight. Wesley never expected to love someone like Lisa. She is full of sass and so very determined to be a great Mountie's wife. Each day in the North makes Lisa stronger and her relationship better.
Fun story with a strong heroine that is disabled and feisty along with a tall, handsome, stubborn Mountie husband. Wished it was a bit longer. A definite keeper!
A delightful story! I loved this continuation of the Mounties Mail Order stories. I was sorry to think it had ended a was so happy to see more books coming out. I love seeing the women adapt to life in the wilds of Canada. Can't wait for the next book.
This is another wonderful Book in the Mail Order Mounties Series. So good I couldn't put it down.I loved Lisa and Wesley's story because I am disabled too and love animals.
I enjoyed reading this mail order bride sweet romance. I loved Lisa’s sass, strength and determination. With all those qualities Wesley could help fall in love with her.
Well written. Showing a handicap girls determination to be like the other brides. Her love of hurt animals almost gets her in trouble with her Mountie as well as the natives he serves.
I really love this series, the characters, storyline and the adventures go together so well. The author's way they express the story is so good. I recommend this book to all my friends and family along with the rest of the series...
So happy to see Lisa, who we were introduced to in the first of the series, get a husband. Wesley's reaction to her was sweet, understandable and humorous. Loved Lisa's spirit and determination and I am glad they come to an understanding at the end.
Fabulous! I so love Lisa and her sass! She will keep Wesley on his toes. Life will always be a struggle for her but her Mountie will be there to ease the burden. 💜
